Varoufakis Will Be Absent From Parliament Today, Detained Due To "Family Reasons"
Following Varoufakis' resignation as Greek finmin on Monday, the first official casualty of the Greferendum which in retrospect was completely irrelevant, he has been put in a tough position of still having to be physically present in parliament of which he remains a member. But not today: moments ago Yanis tweeted that he will not be present to cast the critical vote supporting Syriza's backtracked proposal, as he will be detained for "family reasons."
Nonetheless, he also tweets that he fully supports the new FinMin Tsakalotos' "in the fight he is going to put at the Eurogroup." Unclear which fight he is referring to since Greece has backtracked to a position from before the referendum, but whatever.
His tweets:

Too busy playing Half-Life 3
That or being an unproductive beer drinking leach on the Greek society. With other peoples money.
The family gryphon got into the baklava jar and puked all over everything. Wish I could be there.

Poor man
His hot wife won't get off his face..
He will come to the rescue on eve of Grexit.
Definately playing his cards correctly.
You can see how Varoufakis' compassionate socialist views must have developed. Sipping a cool drink on a hot day with a decent wage and generous leave provided by the state, allows people to develop mental clarity and think about they'd like to structure the world. I'm sure that the young Varoufakis had many discussions about the problems in Greece on those long hot days, and this ultimately formed his views and shaped his legacy. If there's one thing academia and state institutions recognize, it's that people need time to relax in order to think and perform and their best.
Simple...if he goes, if he votes NO, his "family" dies...
Is Greece ready to escape from the European financial dictatorship?
MDB.. you are so off base.
More likely it’s the time he might have spent out in the wide fields outside of UT Austin with a Dragunov that could give him a calm perspective.
Whatever he Tweeted... It's all Greek to me.
Uhura!
I hope he actually used the question marks that I'm seeing in the tweet, instead of the greek or whatever. Would be a better statement.
fucking hilarious i felt same
Wow, that is the worst online translation I think I have ever seen. Good job Twitter.
Guess we have a Greek Tyler now.
All so fucking predictable...
Still waiting for the last minute double-cross, but somehow I doubt its coming. Well, we can always look forward to next weeks terminal bank run once people regain access to their accounts.
The Germans still might come through here.
I hope I am wrong in my line of thinking here.
This guy is a fucking HERO in my book.
WELL PLAYED!
V FOR VICTORY!
That figures. He really didn't do shit.
Always with the Negative Waves!
Always with the Negative Waves!
Why is everyone so bitter here now?
It is only the best leaders that do nothing. People with guns doing nothing (including not enforcing state monopolies on issuance of currency) is what allows economies to flourish.
So you would argue that Greece's economy is beginning to flourish now? Or just talking out your ass?
hey honky, I call bullshit!!!! He brought along and galvanized Greek public opinion so that even his boss was dismayed. He is a natural leader and I hope he has another shot at getting the Greek people to pull the plug on the Euro. First one's out will be the heroes and recover best and first (if USSA's modern gladio doesn't expunge him beforehand.
No, the Bankers galvinized the Greek people. All the Fakis did was make a good teleprompter speech and duck out. Sound familiar?
Golden Dawn needs to make the government fall for their treasonous actions.
Unfortunately, when they get in, and they will (them or the Communists), they will just destroy Greece further. National Socialist "economics" simply doesn't work.
This crisis really points out the major flaw in politics--you can't advance in that field unless you gather more power for yourself and thus the government. As such, there is (seemingly) no capitalist party anywhere in sight. The closest you have are conservative parties, and those are really much closer to fascist than capitalist.
At least in America we have the Libertarian Party.

if she continues to smear dog shit on her face, she will be indecernable from the hand bag. and dog shit.
maskone, correct observation on your part as her /his? hands are bone white.
He was waiting for the bag man, but was put in her bag.
I guess this is how the bag lady is going to get some face.
Why on earth would she wear an orange scarf by her face? Blue is what she needs to balance out all that, er, naturally occurring orange in her complexion.
Trust me, she may have money, but she is clueless, or has really bad advice.
Yanis Varou-FuckThis
ALL SIGNS NOW POINT TO GREECE BEING TOAST - BIG TIME!
Just setting himself to take out Tsipras as party leader. All of this was baked in the cake when he resigned
Need to keep track what ANEL (right wing), Golden Dawn and the military up to?
Did they threaten to kill his family if he showed up? Family reasons.
he is in his underground bunker! Soon he will be watching Tsipra being hang in the middle of the square on his 50 inche LED TV.
With an overpopulated parliament of 300 members, any absence of a parliamentarian and hopefully all 300, is a damn good thing.
As always political and personal considerations have driven the current round of negotiations/retreats and as always happens when two wolves and a sheep discuss what is for dinner.......you know what happens to the sheeple.
There's a man who continues to have political ambitions in Greece, most likely ...
Dude stays home, and the market is up 200 pts.
Greece is Saved! Resolution!
Monday we'll see some china headline and the market will rise another 200.
Up UP and Away!
He did say he would "rather cut off his arm than accept another austerity bailout without any debt relief for Greece."
http://www.theguardian.com/business/2015/jul/02/yanis-varoufakis-id-rath...
What the hell is an "austerity bailout"?
Don't look now but it looks like the can has been mightily kicked again:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/economics/11730086/Greek-deal-in-sight-as-Germany-bows-to-huge-global-pressure-for-debt-relief.html
Today it is official, this will NEVER end. Markets, do your thing!
That was some compelling kabuki that consumed us naive sheep over the past six months!
Hard to imagine this shit wasn't plotted out from the very start--like Obola and the great Dimorat-Repugnican Victories of Bipartisonship we've seen roll out of Warshiton DC for the past 7 years.
Zero Hedgers applauding the Jackboot.
Never thought I would see the day...
Even jackboots do things right sometimes. Hitler did the right thing when he told France and Britain to go fuck themselves over the WWI debt. Of course, like Varoufakis, his economic policies were among the worst in the history of the world, requiring looting of neighboring central banks to sustain economic equilibrium, nevermind growth.
What is growth? It's thrown around like "love" and "honesty." How is it measured?
Varoufakis clearly has been "fired" and the PM wants to cave in. He simply can't cut off his right hand and cave in also. He will not vote for more debt! He has some principles. Good for him.
It sure looks that way. If Tsipras does indeed cave to a stupid accord which a majority voted against, his remaining career as a politician will be short and painfull. Varoufakis, on the other hand, comes out pretty clean from this entire mess, as the most principled guy. After all he preffered to resign rather than renege on his word. He's probably not interested in becoming a politician (it's suicidal to go into Greek politics, anyway), so he can claim the high moral ground for the rest of his academic career. Say what you want about his views, this time he showed character...
If Tsipras caves, he will have to answer very quickly the same question: how do you get a functional economy with no debt reduction ? Since nothing was really solved, EU will slumber ahead a few more years, until the next crisis erupts, at a time when everybody will have even higher debts and less money...
Perhaps Yanis is keeping aside so he can run for PM in the next post-grexit govt?
By which he means, they're threatening his family.
They've made him an offer he cannot refuse?
Anyone voting for the new proposal will have 39% support in the next snap election!
I hope his family reasons are at the Russian embassy. Or better yet, in Ufa.
"Pump your brakes kid... that man is a national hero". He's no longer finance minister. The message has been sent that his services are no longer required. Why not take a well deserved family day for all the S**t he has been dishing out and taking. I personally like the quys style.
soros's dick will not suck itself
Anyone want to find out what Varoufakis is all about??

This guy really deserves the Nobel prize for both economics and sheer guts
The referendum was not irrelevant. Tsipras may be ignoring it but it will have changed the social dynamic in Greece.
The referendum showed not just the politicians but the public what the actual widespread attitude is to the sort of deal being demanded by Europe. Remember that before the vote it was claimed it would be a near thing and Yes would probably prevail. In fact, No had a resounding victory and all the public now knows that.
So if Tsipras makes a deal similar to what the public rejected, as things continue to fall apart under that deal, there will be far more public opposition to the government than if the referendum had not occurred.
