Eurogroup Meeting Ends Without Agreement: "Huge Problems", "Issue Of Greek Trust Very Difficult"

Tyler Durden's picture

Equity markets roared higher Thursday and Friday as they 'knew' a deal was imminent in Greece because Tsipras appeared to backpedal. However, after someone told Merkel the truth, and "everyone knows you can't believe" the Greeks, The Eurorgoup Meeting ends with zero agreement after 9 hours of rumor-mongering and escalating tensions. Local reporters noted the leaders could not even agree on what to disagree about as an increasing number of EU member states pushed for either a Grexit or considerably tougher sanctions austerity on the Greeks

From the man himself...

  • *DIJSSELBLOEM SAYS TALKS ARE STILL VERY DIFFICULT
  • *DIJSSELBLOEM SAYS ISSUE OF GREEK TRUST VERY DIFFICULT
  • *DIJSSELBLOEM: `WE DON'T HAVE A SOLUTION YET'
  • *DIJSSELBLOEM SAYS `HUGE PROBLEMS' REMAIN IN GREEK TALKS
  • *DIJSSELBLOEM: `FOR SURE IT WAS A DIFFICULT MEEETING'

Summing up the meeting perfectly...

As Reuters reports (rather more hopefully than many),

Euro zone finance ministers were trying to draft a joint statement on Saturday listing further measures they want Greece to take in order to launch negotiations on a bailout Athens has requested, an EU source said.

The Greek government has put forward a set of reform plans to meet conditions for a three-year loan from euro zone partners but finance ministers said they did not go far enough and several sources said the other 18 euro zone states want Athens to offer additional actions and guarantees of implementation.

*  *  *

Don't worry though:

  • *MOSCOVICI SAYS THERE'S `ALWAYS HOPE' AND TALKS RESUME SUNDAY

Do these look like faces of hope?

There is no press conference and the meeting will resume tomorrow at 11am... shortly before FX markets open.

The real problem is that "The Great Red Dragon" (Snakes In Suits) demands and will be fed FIRST, or ELSE. And the "or ELSE" is your worst financial nightmare.

In my opinion, Greece is out of the Euro, the rest is theatre. Businesses in Greece are already pricing services in drachma per Bloomberg. Expect a 'real' default on their bonds, and then shit hits fan.

Good on the True Finns for threatening to bring down the Finnish government if it agreed to lend Greek kleptocrats another dime.

No substitute for restoring the Finnish people's right to issue their money and regulate its value, but it's nice to see governments forced to take their own people's interests seriously for a change.

What might they do for an encore? Maybe they'll start to do something about Europe's Muslim and Gypsy problems. Restoring border controls would be a start.

Finland, meanwhile, might serve as a model for a rational approach to European relations with Russia, treating Russia as a valued trading partner whose own interests need to be taken into account, not as a source of free oil and cheap cleaning staff and hookers. Returning rich fugitives from Russian justice would be a good start.

I dare say Finland has had as much "Europe" as it can stand. What Europe needs now is more Finland.

The CFR has its headquarters on the Southwest corner of Park Avenue and 68th Street in New York City. The HQ is the former home of Harold Pratt, a former head of Standard Oil of NJ, whose successor is ExxonMobil. The CFR will be sure to put the common man's taxes on the hook to pay whatever interest is owed on the note. All that wasted money just going to the banks. If it had been invested to the benefit of the country, promoting strengths and seeking new opportunities things might be different. There are no leaders, only muddled managers and hollow shells bereft of any original thought, sadly incapable of saying anything more than 'yeah, what he said"

Quite so. That the vast majority of bail-out cash to Greece goes straight back to the German/French banks is a fact rarely mentioned by MSM, which would have us believe that the Greeks are having a huge never-ending party at EZ expense and keep on asking for moar drugs.

The whole shit show is a joke, Troika a joke, and Greece never seen as a partner but as a possesion to be ordered around and threatened like an adversary.

So what if Spain takes the same approach as Greece did since they too might sick of the whole shit show and draconian Troika mafia.

'Everyone knows you can not trust the Greeks' is not serious and it's just another part of German propaganda (reminding all of us that Germans always trying to find scapegoats in their path of history, Jews etc).

Who is mentioning 'you can not trust the Greeks'? Simply put, the small countries who were allies (or neutrals) in World War 2 with Nazi Germany. Finland (the closest allies with nazis, killed tens/hundreds of american and british soldiers), Latvia (check Latvian Legion) and Slovakia (actually a state back then created by the Nazis and killed thousands of Polish people)... Yes, these countries pointing the finger in Greece!

Europe is over. Schaueble / Merkel have totally failed

Grexit?! As if! Since 1980 greece islands are the bases from which NATO-actions in the middle east and northern africa are launched. When the white huts spokesman, Josh Earnest, met with journalists around the end of June, he told a serious message not only once but trifold: An economically stable Europe not only is in the best economical interest of the U.S., it even is an issue of their national security.
You heard that? "National security", when the POTUS says something along that line, regularly every debate ends, parties don't matter anymore. That's the reason why the U.S. finance minister now intensifies his efforts to reach an agreement regarding the greek "situation", and speaks of "mutual interests". The greek minister of defence, Kammenos, visited Washington in the end of May. He proposed not only the extension of already existing U.S. military bases, but also to turn additional islands in the Aegean into such bases. He mentioned time and time again, that Greece is the pillar of NATO's southeastern flank. And Greece could modernize it's six aged P-3 Orions for roughly half a billion dollar, which would mostly go to Lockheed.
Meanwhile Tsipras made several journeys to Russia and had lots of phone calls with Putin. At the economical forum at St. Petersburg Tsipras clearly stated that "Europe is no longer the center of the world". The world is changing, he said, hinting at the growing inportance of China and Eastasia.
Already in April Tsipras visited Russia, laying out the foundations for the construction of the South-Stream pipeline, through which roughly 47 billion cubic meters of gas could flow into southern europe as soon as 2019. An appropriate contract has been signed by Alexander Nowak and Panagiotis Lafazanis at St. Petersburg.
Most of the attacks on Libya in 2011 were started from Peloponnes and Crete. But from a western perspective, Greece is a doubtful ally. It's relationship with it's neighbour and NATO-partner Turkey is quite problematic. Not much better are the relations with Macedonia. Since it declared independence, back in 1991, greece insists on Macedonia being a greece province.
How far Greece could step out of line for this causes has been demonstrated in 1974, when Greece simply left NATO because of the cyprus crisis. They rejoined in 1980. The country became an important recipient of U.S. military aid, and bought mostly useless weapon systems for the money in return.
Greece has more troops and aircrafts than germany! But nowadays they are financed by deficit-spending. That shall not change in the nearer future, according to NATO general secretary Jens Stoltenberg.
But lest I digress: "National security!" That's growling thunder. The shot has been heard - at least by the IMF, which resides in Washington and is all too aware of the real importance, those two words bear. The lackeys at the german ministry of finance not so much. They still pretend as if there'd be fundamental decisions to be taken, regarding Greece's membership in the European Union or the Eurozone. That's not the case.
Nobody is leaving anything, here, you hear me? "National security" - that's all I had to hear. The greek government has gained notable support from the U.S.A., and we shall see how long it takes the ass-clowns in Brussels and Berlin to notice what that means.

A midway course for Greece might be to drop out of the Euro/EZ, abandon the Euro and adopt the USD as their currency. This would achieve many aims and prevent Greece pivoting towards Russia.

Has anybody seen planeloads of USDs being shipped over to Greece ;-)

Greek plan is very simple. They want to collect €50 billion, pay people all the deposits, pay buddies their rents, fill the pension fund to last at least a short while and then give everybody the finger and DEFAULT.

the only way to get them ANY KIND OF AID is to suspend their democratic institutions and appoint the EU commision to run the country for a while. Will be cheaper for all of us, EU citizens.
