California To Get Relief from Drought: El Niño to the Rescue

George Washington's picture

California is finally set to get some drought relief …

Specifically, forecasters say a strong El Niño is heading our way.

Time gives odds:

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said there is now a 90% chance that El Niño will last through the winter and an 80% chance it will last into spring 2016.

As does the Los Angeles Times:

Scientists say the likelihood that a significant El Niño will happen is more than 90%, and some models suggest there is a nearly 100% chance it will be strong this fall.

El Niño increases rainfall in California.

Forecasters say this could be the strongest El Niño in 50 years.  USA Today notes:

There is growing evidence California could see an even stronger El Niño event this winter than the 1997 one that caused massive flooding across Northern California.

Indeed, it could be so large that it sets “a new all-time record”.

However, even a very wet winter probably won’t be enough to erase California’s drought.  Scientific American reports:

“California would probably need to experience its wettest year on record (by a fairly wide margin) to erase ongoing deficits in a single year,” Swain wrote on his blog. “While it’s not physically impossible, that would be a very tall order, indeed.”

Wired provides figures:

The state would need about 150 percent of its normal rainfall to replenish its reservoirs (the groundwater situation is a little bit trickier).

See this and this for related stories.

Note: Wired and Accuweather point out that there are other factors which could still derail a wet winter.

Carbon dioxide levels have gone up while there has been no increase in "global warming" in over 17 years. Those believers in "global warming" have had to change the data to fit the ideology. That's not science. That's fraud. It was actually warmer during ancient Roman and Medieval times than today - long before widespread use of fossil fuels. The global warming baloney is nothing but a shakedown.

The author of the first article you quote states near the bottom:

"So let’s be clear. Yes: global warming is real, and some of it at least has been caused by the CO2 emitted by fossil fuels."

refuting your own claim that

"The global warming baloney is nothing but a shakedown"

Good news for Californians! They can go back to watering their lawns three hours per day, more water wasting through other means and pretend that nothing happened and that they don't need to change their ways.

I'm in Concord. Very odd weather for two summers straight - windy and cool and dry every. single. fucking. day. I have to crouch to enjoy a cigarette everywhere, always. I don't like it. I wonder about that Texas-sized pool of plastic floating out there. I worry we are going to get our comeuppance soon. Thinking about selling the place to some Chinese settlers and moving way inland. Where there's water.

The Sun is Going to Sleep

That appears to be what is mitigating global warming.

Since magnetic fields of Sun & Earth were deliberately
IGNORED by mainstream climate modeling previously,
it seems interesting to speculate HOW MITIGATING, &
how much would it return with a vengeance LATER???

Nobody knows the answers to those questions now ...

The views of http://guymcpherson.com/ et alia are based upon the greenhouse gas mechanisms becoming self-reinforcing feedback loops, which automatically make themselves exponentially worse. However, I have found that deliberately ignores the electric universe theories, promoted by the ThunderBolts of the Gods group, as well as various other increasingly significant effects in the changes of the combined Sun/Earth magnetic fields, such a promoted by the Suspicious0bservers group.

Anyway, in the bigger picture, I now tend to presume that more cosmic factors change the Sun, which then changes the Earth, in order to cause the changes in the Earth's quaking and volcanic activities, etc. ... Of course, I do not have the slightest clue regarding the details about how that may have happened in the past, or may happen in the future, but there is no doubt that supervolcano eruption in Yellowstone could happen, or WHATEVER! … (And, of course, it continues to be that runaway human driven insanities may well still steal the show from natural mega-disasters?) But nevertheless, these days I tend to think that we appear to be getting a "lucky break" that more cosmic factors have been changing the Sun/Earth magetic fields, in ways which are counteracting the human driven greenhouse gas mechanisms, in ways which are mitigating those, and preventing those from having gone into as bad as runaway exponential feedback loops as otherwise could have been predicted.

The basic concerns that runaway greenhouse gas accumulations would cause climate change continue to be realistic, scientifically sound, mechanisms. Therefore, it is wrong to say unequivocally that human driven climate change is nothing but a FRAUD, since the greenhouse gas mechanisms exist. However, climate models have been quite wrong in their predictions for a score of years because they did not include enough about the Sun and other cosmic factors (which may not be currently understood well enough by anybody, anyways.) But nevertheless, it is a gross over-simplification to say that global warming threats are nothing but FRAUDS, when what has happened appears to be that the expected consequences of the greenhouse gas mechanisms have been mitigated by other cosmic factors, which had been excluded from the previously developed climate models, so that those predictions have ended up being seriously off for more than a decade.

I have never seen anyone disprove the basic simple science, which has been around for more than a Century, regarding the fundamental existence of the greenhouse gas mechanisms, which was always the basic foundation of the global warming worries. However, I have found that there were way more complicated feedback loops, and cosmic factors, which were not fully understood, and therefore, not included into the previous climate models (apparently deliberately, due to some hidden agenda), and therefore, their predictions have be seriously different that what has actually been observed.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?t=14&v=sTvqIijqvTg

How Do Greenhouse Gases Actually Work?

I FIND IT AS IRONICALLY AMUSING THAT
GREENHOUSE GAS MECHANISMS WORK
DUE TO ELECTROMAGNETIC EFFECTS …

HOWEVER, SINCE THE BIGGEST BULLIES MOSTLY
DISLIKED ANY WORLD VIEW THAT CONNECT US,
THE OVERALL MAGNETIC FIELDS OF EARTH &
THE SUN WERE DELIBERATELY IGNORED BY
MAINSTREAM CLIMATE MODELS, SO FAR.

Hence, those models have been WRONG,
while the mass media ignores those issues.

MEANWHILE, ON THE FLIP SIDE:

ARkStorm Movie

The Great California Storm of 1862

rained & rained & rained for 43 days.

Although, over the longer term, for longer periods of time, Californian climate has tended toward prolonged droughts, sometimes an "atmospheric river" forms that deluges California, to an astonishing degree! The 20th Century treated California to some of the best weather possible, which was nothing like the ways that its climate has rountinely swung back and forth to wild extremes previously. Ironically, the relatively abnormal is what most Californians believe is normal. That video presents the cruel joke that governmental agencies could be prepared for such mega-disasters. However, I would tend to more lean towards the view that governmental agencies are actually controlled by the most psychopathic people, who may well have been doing things like this:

Are you fucking kidding me! Ya they forgot to figure the methane I produce when I fart in bed at night as well. 90% of the scientific community promotes this shit and you the marijuana smoker have figured out that they did not figure in the magnetic fields. And I am the heretic because I don't believe that what I breathe out of my lungs is harmful and there is not a single "model" that they have produced is even close to correct. What they have is not even a theory. A theory can be used to actually predict something. They have not predicted a damn thing(except for the money that goes in their pocket). So fuck you and your global warming horseshit.

And by the way I am sure you think that people who smoke cigarettes are evil and the companies who make them are Darth Vader himself who take advantage of the ignorant plebes. I truly cannot believe a .gov who has fought so hard against tobacco and peoples free choice will just say "oh yeah make mj legal. "MJ contains 33 cancer causing materials and deposits 4 x's as much tar into the lungs as smoking equal amounts of tobacco. It causes inflammation of large airways and increased symptoms chronic bronchitis. I won't even go into all of the stats on people who start smoking in their teens and the social consequences.

Don't get me wrong I am mostly just arguing the hypocrisy line. Remove government completely as a source of funding for ANYTHING healthcare related and let people do whatever they fucking want. The stupid people would thin out pretty quick. You don't have to be a fucking genius to realize that anything taken to an extreme is bad for you.

But seriously Mr Marijuana you are not that smart. And if you are then read about what a theory should be able to do. At best they have a hypothesis. I am not ready to pay sky high taxes and live as someone does in a third world country and have my government dictate to me what I can and can't use for an energy source based on a damn hypothesis.

May you have a nice and relaxed evening dude.

sonoftx, you are projecting on to me a lot.

Merely because I think that the greenhouse gas mechanisms are scientifically sound, does not mean that I must then believe in the bogus "solutions" being offered for those problems, especially since there are obviously more cosmic factors to consider in the climate issues. My views have evolved considerably during the last decade or so regarding Humans blamed for climate change ...

SINCE CIVILIZATION IS CONTROLLED BY BACKING UP LIES WITH VIOLENCE, WHATEVER THE RELATIVELY MORE SCIENTIFIC FACTS MAY TURN OUT TO BE, THE SOCIAL "SOLUTIONS" WILL SURELY CONTINUE BEING EXTREMELY HYPOCRITICAL!

P.S.

It is not worth my time to debate here with you about issues regarding smoking marijuana. However, it is my view that smoking should only be done in ceremonial ways, since smoking is otherwise the worst way to consume cannabis.

I had heard a little about that controversy before. However, intuitively I find Ben Davidson to be a "good guy," doing his best to describe what he believes is the case.

Of course, in my view EVERYBODY is like the Chinese Mandala of the YIN/YANG. I am quite sure that I too am somewhat "controlled opposition," since I live inside of the established systems, and could not possibly live outside of those systems. I am NOT able to change anything materially significant. The ONLY thing that I can do is endeavour to not be so badly tricked to believe in bullshit. However, historically, I have always discovered that I HAD been fooled, and even when I achieved some level of awareness of that, it usually turned out that I was still being fooled on some other level. That is why one of my favourite sayings is: "The lies are different at every level."

If California does experience flooding in the central valley, billions of gallons of contaminated wastewater from fracking that has been injected into holding wells for years, will be mixed with floodwater and end up in aquafers. For this reason alone, let us hope California does not experience significant flooding from El Nino.

Super interesting. I just watched a Nova show on this from those links.

I have always thought of these magnetic reversal as roughly similar to the changing polarity of an AC sinusoidal waveform. Now, what controls that waveform? The Sun, would be my layman's guess.

It is interesting that these magnetic anomalies take place apparently during solar minimums, like we are approaching now. Of course, as the scientists were saying, it may be yet quite a while before the polarity flips. Then again...

I heard a very interesting story about "El Nino" a decade ago.

Who told was a great friend, also Geographer.

When installed the buoys with temperature sensors along the Pacific (more precisely, those located on the coast of South America).

The sensors of these buoys gave the ocean temperature in depth, do not remember how many how many meters.

There was an agreement or something, Brazilian meteorologists had access to data, accurately predicted two seasons of "El Nino" and "La Ninha".

This created tremendous ill feeling between the guys who implanataram buoys (once predicted an event that was denied - and hit - by Brazilians).

I do not remember right if the agreement ended or was terminated access to the data, I know that there has never been report of Brazil on the event.

So I've heard.

I do not know if it's true but I remember very well the hits.

Since 1985 study climate and other interactions of geography.

It contains a lot with this information "El Nino" can be just another optimistic bubble.

hehe.
