I don't know about Iran having nukes from the 1970s, they certainly had a power plant program though.
However you're spot on about this deal's real intent. This deal is about getting Iran's economy back into the hands of the right people. If that doesn't work, the alternative being to just use the deal as a vehicle, an excuse the american public will accept, to wreck Iran.

The Iran deal in 26 seconds
It was in Sept 2013 and again in Jan 2014 when I projected to my friends that Iran-US rapproachment would eventually happen. Several argued that it will not happen but ultimately I proved to be right.
A lot of reasons are behind this deal to happen yesterday which was not possible even a few years ago. It is a perfect time for this deal to happen which will bring much needed peace to the region as well as stability and reduction in wars.
In my view, there will be negative business impact in UAE for the short term (due to Iranians and Russians withdrawing mostly) but long term will be positive (due to boom in Iran benefiting everyone).
The reasons being:
1. The currency of Iran has plummeted to about 29,500 for 1 USD currently. In 2012, it was around 12,000 and in 2005 it was around 9,000.
I expect the Iranian currency to rise steadily over the next 2 years to at least 15,000.
This is 50% gain versus 220% decline in 10 years!
Hence, I expect most Iranians to sell their real estate or withdraw funds from bank accounts from the region especially Dubai and take it back to Iran in order to profit from the growth as well as double their money just in the currency appreciation in the next 1-2 years.
This will cause a short term strain on real estate and business in general in Dubai where already prices are trending lower and rents are also under decline for the past 6 months and may continue to be the same trend for the coming 6 months. This comes at a time when most Russians are also selling here/globally and taking it back for exactly the same reasons. Furthermore, Russia has started a tax amnesty to bring money back home with no questions asked.
Some other reasons for slowdown in UAE are due to factors beyond the control of the Govt : During the last quarter of 2014, oil prices plunged causing a long term budget deficit, in the first quarter of 2015, EUR plunged making UAE expensive vis a vis Europe and many other nations, in the 2nd quarter of 2015, attacks happened in Yemen, Saudi and Kuwait and now in the 3rd quarter of 2015, Iran-US deal has happened. All these 4 factors put together are net negative for the economy of UAE and the weak real estate prices and weak business sentiment (except from Govt led construction) are attesting to the same.
In the long run, I expect the UAE Govt to take measures as well as some money flow to start back again into Dubai as soon as USD weakens and oil prices start rising.
2. Population of Iran is estimated around 77 million but could be around 80 million.
GDP of Iran has declined to just around USD 400 billion.
There are 4-5 countries with populations of the size of Iran.
Thailand with 67 million people has GDP of USD 374 billion.
Turkey with population of 77 million has a GDP of USD 800 billion.
Germany with a population of 80 million has a GDP of USD 3,850 billion which is USD 3.85 trillion.
I do not expect Iran to reach the productivity levels of Germany yet but Turkish level is possible.
This means Iranian GDP should jump to double in the next 6-10 years at the minimum to USD 800 billion!
Currently, Iran is growing at a rate of 2-3% pa in its GDP with an inflation of over 16% pa (Inflation has declined significantly from 40% to 16% level today in the last few years). This means there is no growth but only decline in GDP.
With billions of dollars in investments and money of Iranians alone to enter Iran, the boom is just beginning.
Expect Iranian GDP to grow 10-15% pa at the minimum for the next 10 years on an average basis but next 1-2 years will be the most lucrative and could possibly grow by more than 15%.
This is the first time in several decades that a positive news has happened in the Middle East which has a real prospect of reducing tensions and increasing business connectivity in the years ahead between all the Middle Eastern nations. Usually, when a negative news happens in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan etc, it has been a positive factor for UAE. But this is the first time a positive news has happened plus it has happened to the largest country by population as well as GDP who has excellent talent of educated people inside their own country and billions will flow from all over the world into Iran.
All this will cause a slight negative influence in all Middle Eastern countries who were being used to do business or travel through before proceeding to Iran or for banking purposes or investing in real estate etc. All of these activities will surely slow down as far as Iranian people are concerned since they will have their own free zones, own banking, own flight routes and own real estate to invest into with no sanctions to worry about. Tourism and trade will flourish. Bank L/C's and ships can now be sent directly to Iran's oldest ports in the world instead of routing them through Dubai or elsewhere.
Today, on the second day, US has already removed sanctions on shipping companies and dozens of companies will now be able to ship and berth in Iranian ports immediately.

3. One of the big reasons why this deal happened today is because Saudi is no longer 'good friend' of USA because US does not buy oil from the region nor does US have any army base in Saudi any more nor does US support Saudi oil policy of keeping oil at high prices.
This is confirmed by the fact that Saudi for the first time in history has signed a nuclear deal with Russia (an 'enemy' of USA) in June 2015:

Saudi is the only exception in GCC and has thus far kept very low profile in the last few weeks on the Iran deal. However, the Saudi Govt commented today and suggested to Iran to reduce tensions. It is also in the self interest of Iran to reduce conflict and grow business in the region which is why I also believe that conflict will reduce in the coming months around the region.

Firstly the (mini Iran) deal with Cuba and now the big deal with Iran will become his legacy. Obama will be remembered for nothing else in the annals of history but for being the President who shook hands with Iran and removed the sanctions. USA placed sanctions on Iran due to terror allegations, support for Syria, Hezbollah, human rights abuses etc but none of these things have been addressed in the deal while sanctions will be dismantled just with some minor agreements on the nuclear proliferation which also has not been stopped which has been a strong American and Israeli demand for several years. Also, Obama has signed this deal against vocal opposition of Israel.
Israel has 100-200 nuclear war heads while no other nation has it in the Middle East. Rising Iran being the largest will bring balance to the region. At the same time, UAE and Saudi have been allowed to use nuclear power for electricity production by the US in a peaceful manner.
Secondly, this also proves that American empire is reaching its end of limits. Despite having fought a unwarranted war in Iraq, today, Iraq is nowhere near stability or democracy after 13 long years of US military intervention. American outreach through military and sanctions has completely and miserably failed whether in Cuba or in Iran.This shows that American empire cannot attain everything it wants despite its economic and military might.
This also is an exit strategy for the US military to depart from the Middle East. We hope and pray that US interference will start slowing down in the months ahead in this region which is most likely while peace and stability will reign in the region in the days to come.

I am basing my projections that Middle East will be safer and less prone to all sorts of back door activities because:
1. Africa has done the same in the last decade. US does not have much interest in Africa partly due to its debt limits and need to curb spending and aid and partly because US does not wish to buy much oil from OPEC nations like Middle East, Nigeria etc. Ever since US left the shores of Africa about a decade ago, we have not heard of any coups, any mass upheavals like Idi Amin expelling or Tanzania bomb attacks. Boko Haram is there but that is an offshoot like ISIS and hopefully should be curtailed just like Ebola virus in the near term provided everyone keeps aside their differences and bands together just like they did against Ebola! China showed up in Africa and we have seen that the Top 7 fastest growing economies in the world are now in Africa and more roads, bridges, power plants and railways have been built than ever before! China has invested money without bringing any political changes which is a better way of doing things. Let the locals deal with their own issues, do not try to push Western values down the throats of centuries old cultures, traditions and tribal politics.
2. Israel is the only one with nuclear war heads in the Middle East but they and the US preach to all not to have the same. This is unfair. Because every country has the right to do what they best feel to protect their citizenry. US and others have no right whatsoever to tell other nations what they can and cannot do. Iran's rise will bring balance to the region, especially with US and Western support due to closer business ties. This balance was necessary because the previous one with support both to Israel on one end and to the Arabs on the other end was not a good strategy with western intervention into every single nation. This has been catastrophic for the region as well as the world leading to death in millions over the last decade for no reason or greater good whatsoever. This proved that this strategy did not work. and the deal with Iran and Cuba proves that the hard liners in America have been and were always wrong.
What will work is less Western intervention, more business ties, less support by all to terror activities mostly driven by a desire for peace and stability as well as to continue doing more business than wars!
I am pretty confident that US will withdraw their military over the next few years (fuelled by the distress in economic activity in US and EU and provide a much needed relief by accessing Iranian population who are more than 80 million and have been starved of foreign branded goods for more than 35 years) and will replace it along with other countries with business activity instead.
The reason Middle East could not stand on its two feet was due to internal conflicts and outside intervention more than anything else and the whole world passed them by during the last 50 years while they kept fighting internally and did not use the opportunity to grow.
The big exception was Dubai who did extremely well and hopefully should still do in years to come and has set an example for others in the region on how to manage affairs in the most adverse of situations.

I think Russia is going to be the one who loses out from this.
Russian oil will be less lucrative (still lucrative for China and Europe since they are still technically closer) but major investments from China and Europe as well as others are going to make their way to Iran due to it being cheaper in Iran - with the labour and what not.
As well, Iran will more likely jump to west in terms of buying all types of goods that they would have orrignially purchased from Russia during sanctions - one of them are aircrafts. Right now, Russia will be negotiating with Iran for purchase of Sukhoi Superjet 100's, but I imagine Boeing and Airbus will be trying to line the pockets of certain Iranians to get the deal. S-300 they will get from Russia, but they probably will end up with Eurofighters or Rafale's or something else, not from Russia. And it will most likely be Chinese major companies purchasing up assets and investments in Iran, while Russia will probably not get much or anything.
Only thing Russia may gain from anything from this, is sales of certain industrial goods, automotive (they are looking at trying to establish a deal between Iranian and Russian automakers to make Lada's in Iran), and possibly some military gear (but not much, as I imagine China and USA will try to flood the market for that).
Russia will end up getting the short end of the stick on this.
