July 5: Greek Independence Day; July 15: Greek In Dependence Day

Tyler Durden's picture

The Greek parliament just voted, in a 229 for and 64 against landslide, to implement the austerity Europe demands to grant Greece the funds for Bailout #3 so that Greece can then repay European creditors (as opposed to facing up to the pain imminently and suffering through a Grexit) implicitly giving up their sovereignty and sending their 61% "Oxi" voting citizenry into what will inevitably be an even deeper economic depression.

  • *GREEK GOVERNMENT HAS VOTES TO APPROVE BAILOUT BILL, TALLY SHOWS

As Bloomberg reports,

A majority of 229 Greek lawmakers voted in favor of bill which includes prior actions demanded by creditors for a bailout agreement that the govt has applied for, Parliament Speaker says.

64 lawmakers voted against bill, 6 abstained, in Greece’s 300-seat chamber

Bill titled “urgent measures for the negotiation and signing of an agreement with the European Stability Mechanism”

38 lawmakers of governing Syriza party, including former finance minister Yanis Varoufakis, former deputy Finance Minister Nadia Valavani, and Energy Minister Panagiotis Lafazanis didn’t support bill

Out of 149 Syriza MPs, 32 voted against bill, 6 abstained, 1 didn’t show up

More to the point, with 38 defections, Syriza has now officially lost its majority and a cabinet reshuffle is imminent as the drama goes on.

And as noted:

But the biggest surprise of the night was that the former finance minister and Tsipras' right-hand man, Yanis Varoufakis, voted against the bailout.

And his Energy Minister (who also voted No)...

  • *GREECE'S ENERGY MINISTER LAFAZANIS SAYS HE SUPPORTS GOVERNMENT
  • *LAFAZANIS SAYS `WE 'RE THE HEART AND SOUL OF SYRIZA'
  • *LAFAZANIS SAYS HE DOESN'T WANT SNAP ELECTIONS

In summary - this just happened:

And because all the algos know is to buy when the elites get their way, S&P futures are rallying

"... Read and weep…"

What had me fooled was my fantasy that Tsipis was drawing out the negotiations, exposing the duplicity and cruelty of the Troika, and building to a fever pitch the opposition of the Greek public to their deal - for the purpose of winning the overwhelming mandate for Grexit, reconstruction and self defense that they would need.  Seen in this way his moves looked masterful, building up to a 61% Oxi last week and 79% rejection by last Friday. He could have walked out of the meeting Sunday and declared a national emergency, nationalized the banks and announced the reissuing of the Drachma, and all of Greece would have celebrated with joy.

Then he pricked my bubble, revealing himself and most of his Syriza coalition as spineless cowardly social democrats by signing a much more awful deal than had ever before been presented. Which most ZH readers already knew, and I didn't want to know.

But intentionally or not, Tsipis did arouse the Greek people to a fever pitch, and he did prepare them for a fight.  His admission that he was told electing a government during bailouts makes no difference must have further inflamed their anger. They are primed and ready now for a huge eruption of popular rage, with unpredictable consequences.

Charles Hugh Smith once wrote something very similar, in regards to then newly-elected President Obama.

http://www.oftwominds.com/blogapr09/obamas-secret-plan04-09.html

"...we speculate that perhaps Obama has a secret plan to discredit the investment banker cabal and thus undermine their vast political power and reach."

It turned out he was wrong too.

It's heartwarming to think that some politician is out there, fighting the good fight for the people, but this is as deluded as believing in Santa Claus.

It's easy to think of this as a "German" thing. And I have certainly given them grief in the comments section.

But in all honesty this is the NWO landing, wrapped in the German flag and driving a BMW bought in euros.

I don't see how Europe avoids that fate. Maybe NWO was what they needed in the end. How or if it extends beyond Europe is anyone's guess, but it certainly landed there first.

The IMF can tank this whole thing. If they are in on the deal they won't. If someone doesn't like the NWO starting in Europe (for whatever reason, don't ask me) then the IMF gloves come off in 3 ... 2 ... 1 ...

They can't resist socialism on a fish hook. Just like a bum can't resist another bottle or a junkie can't resist another hit.

The sad thing about humans is that most of them, while perhaps "good" on the inside, are just dumb as a box of rocks and easily manipulated. Humans rarely lack the motivation to read history, think critically, plan ahead, or consider consequences of decisions. Look at teenagers for example; hormones run the show, complete lack of forward thinking, etc. It is scientifically provable.

And many people never grow up.

This is the cycle of history, over and over, because humans haven't fundamentally changed in the last ~10k years, nor will they.

Cooter

The gigantic elephant in the room is religion if you want to talk about "dumb as a box of rocks", "easily manipulated", "lack of motivation to think critically".

Religion has absolutely dominated western and middle eastern civilisation for a couple of thousand years and has formed the absolute bedrock of society for much of this time.

We are talking about the critical thinking ability of not a minor segment of society but the absolute majority.

Let's not beat around the bush, humans still to a large extent believe in magic.

Humans still to a large extent are supersticious.

Humans still to a large extent believe in omens like blood moons.

Humans still to a large extent believe in the ability of some people to predict the future.

You wonder why eveything on a day to day basis is so utterly fucked up.

Humans are dumb. How many of them see all sides of the equation and only factor themselves in at the last possible moment? Very few.

The vast majority believe in something (religion, atheism, equality, etc) with full conviction and have zero ability to question or think critically about themselves or attempt to actually understand others.

This debt forgiveness is what put Germany into the powerful position it's in now, but now it's Greece with the debt, these stinking krauts are willing to forgive none of the Greek debt and steal all they want from the Greek people this way instead! While it is possible that Finland or the IMF may kill the deal - What is still important is that we now know that the Greek politicians are owned and will betray their citizens and ignore the vote of the citizens.  Money is sure to flow into their pockets while they give away Greece for pennies on the dollar.  Watch for the military to step in and put down protests (after a couple weeks maybe) with whatever force is required.

(It is also just a possible that Finland and the IMF were just gaming the circus to make the Greeks (and the IMF the Germans)  think this was the best deal possible.)

Finland's GDP and contribute to ESM counts less than 2% in the EU. They are perfectly irrelevant. The German parliament will abide. The ESM is based on the fees of Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Holland. The rest is peanuts. And, in case, the Finnish parliament can be forced to try a second time (see what happened in 2011 to Slowakia). EU needs a reform of the voting system based on the GDP.

Most EU member states were absorbed by the EU, not by popular vote but by domestic traitors who were taking bribes directly from the EU pay office to make sure EU membership was a done deal. SO it can come as no surprise that many of these same traitors would sign away their country again. The Greeks should have refused the first free sandwich. It's all downhill from there.

Look at animals in the wild. They are stupid animals, right? But even they know better than to accept food from a free hand. They must be coerced and tricked into doing so and for good reason as they almost always pay for that free meal with their lives.

Greece is in a financial siege.
In all sieges (if you have no allies or reinforcements) there are basically 4 options.
1.Withhold,starve to death and/or prepare for the exodus/the battle.
2.Waiting for the traitor to open the gates.
3.Unconditional Surrender.
4.Storm the fuck out and win and/or die.

Voted to stay in the eurozone, with access to support loans in euros.

Nothing else changes. They cannot pay and must default ... eventually. Thus creating a "european transfer union" in everything but name.

In the US, we voted for monetary union using bullets during the Civil War years, and most of the south has been in exactly the same place as Greece will be in Europe, except the US always recognized the need for in-system rebalancing. It's also why they insist on flying that flag of theirs; pride before all.

It's not deFault, its always somebody else's Fault.

The thing that is changing is that they will no longer allow you to "fly your flag". AS the screws tighten, absolute submission is required. This is what Political Correctness is about. About silencing us, taking down our flags that symbolize independence and freedom. Stomping on our rights to speech, especially political speech which we now see extends to virtually every subject of conversation. The very "right" to speech is political and now verboten. Watching the media froth at the mouth over Trump and even still they cannot bring themselves to use the term Illegal immigrant, only immigrants. They know the difference and while most would deliberately twist things to the left anyway, we see none who will actually say "illegal" in conjunction with immigrant. And then again, they fail to recognize the criminal acts of our bankers as "illegal" either.

I don't know how many people are afraid, QA.  But I've been out shopping a lot this month and I've never seen more miserable faces on people.  Every face I saw in Sam's yesterday was stone cold misery.  No smiles.  No chatting.  People look worried.  Home Depot was the same.

The farm supply store was the only exception.

The general population may not know what's really going on, but they certainly don't feel happy and hopeful.  It's like all those dumb fuck Occupy kids.  They're not smart enough to know why they are so screwed or who is screwing them, but they are bitterly aware that they will be the first generation in hundreds of years to NOT have it better than their parents.

Cops are clearly scared of their own shadows.  Lawmakers do not dare give a speech in public without having the CIA vet the entire audience.  MSM news outlets submit their program schedules to government handlers for approval.   There are brand new kill switches for Wall Street, the internet, power companies, and cell phone towers.  And look at all the effort the bankers have been putting into recent legislation to saddle taxpayers with trillions of dollars of derivatives losses, and toxic loans.

This is the crap desperate people do, when they know the con is almost up.  They are unsettled.

I think the veneer is worn very thin.

Please no burning. Athens saw the results of this last time when a molotov cocktail was thrown into a bank resulting in the death of a pregnant bank teller.

In fact no burning will be necessary. The results of this latest "deal" will be so vicious that the deal will fall on its own sword and at worst by civil disobedience.

The danger of course is that some totally depressed and repressed soul might decide to take a politician with him before suiciding. I think they used to call such people tyrannicides in Ancient Athens.

yeah, funny story: In the 2012 elections one dared to found a political party to take part in the elctions with the name "Tyrannicides"!Of course such plans steer off the constitution, so he was not allowed to participate.
Tsipras has a last chance to spread the burden of tax reforms equally, something his predecessors assured NOT to happen. He will always have the "turncoat" and/or "liar" on his name, but at the moment he is the only one to try to ease the extra burdens and give way less glimmer of hope.but a hope nonetheless.

Two big names have voted to reject the deal - including former finance minister Yanis Varoufakis.

Not a huge shock, given Varoufakis compared it to the Treaty of Versailles in a blog post today.

But still, he’s defied Alexis Tsipras....and could potentially be fired as a Syriza MP.

As has house speaker Zoe Konstantopoulou - who earlier slammed the deal as a coup, that could cause social genocide.

And I am not sure that it is what Germany want because they gave them "an offer that they cannot accept" They know that the debt will never be paid  and like a clever investor they want  to cut the lost.

But Greece is already dead so they have nothing to loose anymore so they accept.  Is it a case of lost dignity or martyrdom...

The best theory I have heard so far is that the Germans are doing this out of spite, a kind of tribal ritual sacrifice. What did the Greeks do to deserve this? Well for one thing they had the misfortune of a lovely climate and bright beaches. They are also celebrated as the progenitors of democracy, rather than for example having invented efficient mechanized warfare. For another, they resisted the Nazis during the war. And also, recently they started making noise that Germany is at their old tricks again.

That's a lot for anyone to swallow. Especially the part about the beaches. So as the theory goes Greece suffers for it.

It's not so bad. At least Athens doesn't get bombed into splinters and ashes every third generation.

Yeah that was a low blow. And yet ...

I'm a little surprised to read that, I thought he was pretty honest thru this BS process. I also thought that the Troika essentially forced his resignation giving him additional creditibility and integrity. Do you some information or is this sort of known speculation (except I obviously don't know). This is what the IMF does, the other "troika" members are learning from them - althought LaGarde was once France Finance Minister she now essentially works for the US best interests but she follows a long used script for how to commit financial war on a country or even an entire region with devestating results AND a situation much more favorable to the wealthiest there and the USA and partners. He came into the picture after the groundrules were established, again the IMF imposed its daunting requirements that absolutely force the country into a debt cycle that very quickly requires giving up sovereignty, all assets and than outright management - think of it as gubmint outsourcing.

Well, I do hope your wrong. I've been let down so much boping the Greeks would not allow this to happen - I really, naively thought OXI meant OXI yet they come away signing and then endorsing a more aggregious agreement. Pledging 50 Billion in assets. The greeks will become an entire culture of service people working at hotels and such, close down the colleges, why bother? So terrible.
