President Obama To Explain How Great The Iran Nuclear Deal - Live Press Conference

Tyler Durden's picture

As everyone knows by now, a nuclear 'deal' between Iran and the P5+1 (US, France, China, Germany, UK, Russia) was announced earlier this week. Under this agreement, Iran promises to limit its nuclear program in return for various international sanctions to be lifted. Republicans are not happy with the deal (Boehner: "Obama's deal will only embolden Iran"); Israel's PM Netanyahu warned it was "a stunning historical mistake," but we are sure President Obama will put everyone straight as he heads into the next 60 days of Congressional wrangling...

President Obama is due to speak at 1300ET...

I say, if Israel can have nukes ILLEGALLY, then Iran can have them legally.  Somebody's got to counter balance the nuclear threat Irsael poses in the Middle East.  How do you think they get away with bullying, bombing and invading all of their neighbors?  Answer: Their neighbors can't fight back on an even playing field.  This is why Nitwityahoo and his slavish lickspittle Republicans are braying so much.

Hell, if you use Israel's thinking, Iran should inflict a pre-emptive strike against Israel because of all of Bibi's threats. Iran didn't make the rules, Israel has.

The Constitution gives the President the power to commit the United States to treaties – but only with the advice and consent of two-thirds of the US Senate, and only if the agreement does not contravene the Constitution. The process to ratify a treaty may be lengthy, but it is relatively straight forward.

This is over sanctions, not nuclear power. Iran is already a member of the NPT and is allowed to create nuclear power. Everything else is an unproven fear that Iran is making nukes.

I just find it ironic that the only nation in history to use a nuclear weapon on people, cities full of civilians with no military value to boot, is going around the world lecturing others about not being responsible enough to have them, while at the same time turning a blind eye and pretending we don't kow about our good buddy Israel's illegal arsenal of them. The irony never ends with the usgov lecturing others about things it doesn't practice itself.

While I almost never find myself siding with Obama, if this does ANYTHING to prevent another wasteful repeat of the Iraq fiasco with Iran, then we should welcome this. I personally don't want to see millions more die,and we don't run up a few trillion in debt for my children to pay for just to senselessly slaughter more people.

This is not technically a treaty as I understand it.  But congress can refuse to lift sanctions and other measures.  O'dipweed has said he will veto all those attempts which means the Senate will need 61 votes to override the veto.  Not sure of the number for the House.

So, your "straight facts" are that Israel never signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, yet they have hundreds of illegal nuclear weapons.  So, which nation here is "rogue"?  Why doesn't the world cry "foul" with this "special" country?  And to be honest... yes, I would feel a lot safer if there was a counter threat (Iran) to Israel's monopoly on nukes and ther delivery systems.  There's a lot to be said for deterrence... it works.  I'm not a "fan" of Iran either... I just know human nature and the history of that part of the world.  Iran hasn't invaded a country for close to 200 years... Israel and its proxy-United States have... on numerous occasions.

Divine Breaking Wind... There was relative peace in that region prior to the bastard state's existence.  The Mossad's slogan, "By Way Of Deception, Thou Shalt Do War" says it all for the mindset of the tribe who now lords over the hapless indigenous Palestinians.  I truly pity you if you really hope that such a state "prevails".  Try a little empathy sometime... it can change one's mind very quickly.

You don't really know the history of the region do you? Why am I asking its quite clear you don't. Well let me give you a little history lesson based on FACTS not your biased Jews suck view of the world.

Palestine was never an Arab entity and never belonged to the Arabs. The Jews of Israel did not steal the land from the Arabs. At the time of the rise of Zionism the Arab population in Palestine was 250,000 of whom the great majority were newcomers. What is more very few were land owners. They were debt-ridden peasants, nomads and Bedouins. Turkey owned 72% of the land. Sovereignty over the land was transferred to England and ownership passed to Israel, under international law, in 1948. 8.6% of the land was owned privately by Jews, 3.3% by Arabs who lived in Israel and 16.5% by Arabs who had left the land many years before.

The UN Partition Resolution offered the Arabs LIVING IN PALESTINE a state alongside the Jewish state. The Arabs of Palestine – and the surrounding countries – REJECTED the UN offer. Instead, on 14 May, 1948, five Arab nations invaded with the intention of destroying the Jewish state. In other words, it was the Palestinians and five Arab countries that tried, by destroying the Jewish state, to steal the land from the Jews.

Now who's the victim here?

You are missing some big points my friend.

Israel doesn't have a core belief that if they blow up the 'infidels' they're doing the will of God and will see paradise with a gazillion virgins.

Israel doesn't believe they need to usher in the 12th Mahdi like the nutjob Muslims do.

Israel doesn't hold onto power in their country by using the I Hate Jews and wish them exterminated tag line as the core tenet of their political power.

Israel is a democracy not a theocracy.

Islam theorcracies are unstable, unpredictable and don't think logically to those not a member of their faith.  A dangerous combination to everyone NOT on their side.

no, israel, in fact, the jewish religion, encourages the treatment of all nonjews as chattle and subhuman. to be fair, all the abrahamics are fucking nuts but the jews are taught to be antigoy emphatically. the entire religion, and its followers, is extreme. the christians and muslims actually included love as the answer even as they have a difficult time expressing it to others. if you need a religion please find buddha, the only explicitly antiviolence religion, otherwise just try to do the right thing.

Wow.

"Israel doesn't have a core belief that if they blow up the 'infidels' they're doing the will of God and will see paradise with a gazillion virgins."

No.  Israel DOES have a core belief that they are God's Chosen People who should rule over an enslaved goyim.

"Israel doesn't hold onto power in their country by using the I Hate Jews and wish them exterminated tag line as the core tenet of their political power."

Israel DOES hold onto power by subjugating the majority indigenous population and would exterminate them tomorrow if they felt they could get away with it. (In a way, they are exterminating them now in a slow and cruel way in the Gaza Strip).

"Israel is a democracy not a theocracy."

Israel IS a theocracy, whether you want to admit it or not.  Palestinians do NOT have equal rights in the Knesset and cannot vote.  Your statement is idiocracy.

"Islam theorcracies are unstable, unpredictable and don't think logically to those not a member of their faith."

*Thump!*  Excuse me... I just fell out of my chair.  Islam theocracies are only "unstable" because we (at Israel's behest) bomb their countries or attempt to starve them with our sanctions and other nefarious shenanigans.  I don't advocate for their form of government, but it's not my (our) place to dictate such things to other cultures.  Let them be who they are and govern themselves as they see fit.

"A dangerous combination to everyone NOT on their side."

And everyone who's not on Israel's "side" is as safe as can be.  Yep.

Wrong. The cartoon does not depict the CIA-sponsored coup that put the Shah into power. Nor does it depict the 'red line' after the revolution there and the U.S. embassy takeover. Nor does it depict Israel's 'red line' that all Middle East powers must be destroyed and demilitarized so Israel can steal their land and resources at will.

The cartoon depicts the desperate acts of a U.S. president about to lose the opportunity to exploit a massive market because Putin moved in first. Kind of the reason the U.S. finally normalized relations with Cuba. It had nothing to do with Obama - it had everything to do with Russia expanding ties to Cuba.

They already know that and said as much. One of their leaders described it something like Saddam Hussain's futile attempt to satisfy the U.N. terms - the U.N. will constantly demand access to more and more restricted sites, which Iran will oppose because no Western signatory is subject to the same scrutiny. The U.N. is used as the intelligence-gathering tool for future targeting needs. Eventually, the U.N. will leave claiming non-cooperation, sanctions will be re-imposed and new red-lines drawn. Then the bombing begins.

do a gander of Bible prophecy. there are several wars coming up that are aligning quite nicely with the current geopolitical events. the Gog Magog war is probably the one coming next. whether you believe such things or not someone writing something 2,500 years ago with such accuracy is downright scary and worthy of mention.

"The war of Ezekiel 38-39 is a very serious war. It is a war where the Russians lead a moslem coalition down from the north of Israel in an attempt to invade and destroy the Jewish state once and for all. The Russians are referred to in Ezekiel 38-39 by their ancient name of "Magog", while the Iranians who are the leaders of the moslems are referred to as "Persia". To get the name Magog for Russia, we have to do a bit of research in the history books, yet the name Magog is also mentioned as one of the sons of Noah in the Table of Nations from the Bible. Iran on the other hand, has recently changed their name from Persia to Iran in recent memory. So, coming up with who is Persia is not a hard job."

i am very familiar with gog and magog. sometimes current events get close enough to the story to pay attention to it.  my analysis of the story, if treated as possible, is the omission of the apostate religion which i interpret to be modern judaism. everyone else has interpreted it to be christianity. the apostate jews start the war between gog and magog ending in the annihilation of modern judaism, the cleansing of the soul, so to speak. they are certainly acting like they need to be cleansed.

Or, one could consider Magog the Russian Khazharian Mafia fake jews that have invaded Palestine and created a fake Zion - ersatz Israel - as it exists today.

Gog and Magog are in ersatz Israel right now. You should be waiting for God's great earthquake in ersatz Israel and the final battles which will kick the psychopathic Magogs out and resotore Zion to the true Semitic people - the peaceful Palestinians (Jewish or not) - that have lived there for millenia.

I got thirty other variations of end-time prophecy if that one doesn't suit you.

They know what "death" means, surely.  And that bit in their constitution about eradicating Israel isn't metaphorical or "team spirit"   That's the mission.   They will spend a lot of their now freed assets and future economic gains just as they do now under severe sanction conditions:   give heavily to their proxies all around the middle east while rationing basic commodities to the people.

Why libtard ? Is Ron Paul against the deal ? I think he meant that it's not because Obama makes a move that's always the wrong one, especially on this one.

A Marxist president that most here think is in the pocket of the big banks.  That's an interesting observation...

Let me ask you and the other brilliant downvoters, what is the alternative to an agreement with Iran?  War?  Continued sanctions?  Because, in my opinion, neither of those things is a viable option.

And those who criticize the agreement and want to bomb, or continue the sanctions are doing so, not out of some love of country, or fear of Iran, but merely because they reflexively oppose everything Obama does - i.e. the neocons, much like yourself, best represented by Rupert Murdoch.

This whole episode reminds me of our recognition of "Red China" back in the day.  When libtards thought the best way to engage China was diplomatically, they were called soft on Communism.  As soon as Richard Nixon went to China, he was hailed as a hero.  And believe me, if a Republican president had entered into this agreement with Iran, he would be an effin' hero as well.

You use these extremist arguments, that the deal is good because the alternative is war or massive sanctions. Why can't the alternative be ..

a deal with a real verification process, not with 24 days delay, and a deal that doesn't include selling conventional weapons (tossed in at the last second), a deal that genuinely restricts Iran's ability to build a nuke.

Because that is what the deal was supposed to be about when all this started!

I have been a matter of days away from buying a new Harley for almost twenty years, but every time I ask my wife, she says NO!

As I understand it there are two things needed to build a nuke. One is the technology to assemble one, and the other is the fuel. I am told that the technology to make a bomb is readily available and would take very little equipment or time to do so, but it is the fuel that is the real problem. High grade Plutonium is not something you can buy on the internet. It is highly restricted, pretty easily traced, difficult to handle and almost impossible to make without a lot of high speed refining centrifuges. Iran abandoned their military nuclear development supposedly in 03, but they have doubled down numerous times since then on centrifuges while lying about them, only to be discovered time and again. Every international effort has been focused on limiting their refining ability as that is the key. If they can make their own weapons grade material, then no one can stop them. Making the bomb is a matter of weeks once you have the fuel. We know they have been refining and we know they have been hiding it and we know they are developing far more refining capacity than they have reactors to feed and we know Russia has supplied ALL of their fuel needs to date. SO, what are they doing? And yes, people have been warning of this for years which is why we have had such heavy sanctions against them. AS we learned with North Korea, once they have it there is no going back. We will have their same belligerent equivalent in the Middle of the ME mess. What could possibly go wrong? And of course while they are a Muslim nation, they are mortal enemies of many of their Muslim neighbors who are now saying THEY TOO must have nuclear deterrents against Iran.

Obama has now lit the fuse. He claims that what he did was imperative to stop Iran from having the bomb while admitting that this will actually legitimize them having one in a matter of five or ten years, plus unlimited weapons procurement. In case no one has noticed with their jabs about how their acquisition of the bomb has been months away for years.....they never got one, did they? Will they now? Maybe everyone thinks this is some kind of justice, like your mother getting lung cancer from smoking for thirty years. Very sad.

Let these two sort it out themselves.

The cartoon at the beginning of this article reflects the cultivated paranoia

of the average US citizen. Those fears support the hubristic aggressiveness

behind the Pentagon policy to full-spectrum dominate all the world and outer space

in order to make the US 'secure' at the expense of everyone else.

Contrary to MSM histrionics:

Iran has been set up.

To the satisfaction of the US and its servile MSM,

Saddam could never disprove future "mushroom clouds".

Gaddafi could never disprove Libya needed "humanitarian intervention".

and Putin can never disprove he wants to re-establish the Soviet empire.

Under the agreement, the sanctions remain until the US is convinced Iran is behaving.

The sanctions will never be lifted.

The Saudis and others will continue to attack Syria and other Iranian allies.

Any Iranian help provided or alleged will be broadcast as "proof' of Iranian perfidy.

Alleged "violations" and false flags can now  serve as 'acceptable' excuse to attack Iran.

For US policymakers, it was never about the non-existent Iranian nuclear weapons.

It was always about dominating the resources of the Mideast and thereby thwarting Russia and China.

The US end-game has not changed.

rwe2late, I get your premise right up until "the sanctions will never be lifted"

It seems like they are already lifted, and putting that horse back in the barn will never happen as the Europeans and Russians will quickly be selling to get their hands on some of that $100billion in assets just released. And Iran has every need for it, as she solidifies her rising power in the mideast, including a new wave of funding for Hezbollah and destabilizing Israel and her borders.

 It may

"seem" like the sanctions have been lifted,

but the sanctions have not been lifted.

Nor are they likely to be.

I doubt this yet-to-be approved treaty

marks a 180 degree policy change in the US quest for dominance.

Apparently, notwithstanding all other contrary evidence, some still hope for a change.

I would hazard a guess that the following issue is linked with the new doveish attitude toward Iran.  Obama may pass it with or without other members of government in this environment.  The Russians have outmaneuvered the US all around, including with an ally we have had for nearly 100 years. "According to the Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak, Saudi Arabia is interested in energy projects in Russia... As a result, the corporation – ‘Rosatom’ – signed a framework agreement with Saudi Arabia for the construction of 16 nuclear power plants totaling $100 billion".. And there is more..

Iran is constantly under close inspection and watch and all related organizations report correct behavior so stop freaking out. Plus how about Israel`s nuclear inspection? Oh forgot, they denied it. Is it ok and safe in case of Israel you say? Apparently you never heard of Samson Option, cause that is the biggest danger this world face today!

What they do to Iran & other countries is only one thing - they are digging their own graves

And Iran & other oppressed countries now have a right to own nuclear weapons to protect themselves against western countries govts terrorism and time has come now to destroy the evil western civilization which promotes unnatural sex, drug abuse, violence, arms proliferation, financial terrorism, rich-poor divide & exploitation.
