Here Comes The Oil Glut: First Iranian Oil Tanker Sets Sail

Tyler Durden's picture

Amid what is being reported as worrying discrepancies between the U.S. and Iranian interpretations of what had been agreed, an Iranian supertanker with 2 million barrels of oil is on its way to Asia after sitting in Iranian waters for months, likely to be the first vessel holding floating excess stocks to sail after the nuclear deal.

As David Sheppard (@OilSheppard) explains,

  • Vessel is the Starla from Iran's NITC. Loaded at Iran's Kharg Island terminal just over a month ago before going dark
  • Appeared labelled as sailing to Iraq's Basrah on June 8 - a smuggling tactic UK insurers have warned of in past
  • Starla now listed as sailing to Singapore - which doesn't have a waiver from US to take any Iranian oil
  • If this is Iran (tanker owned by NTIC) sending message would be very interesting.
  • Tanker was in floating storage/off radar for month
  • So interesting that Iran oil sailing to country that US does NOT allow to import Iran oil

*  *  *

Smugglers? Or Iran sending a message?

China was sucking up all the Iranian oil anyway, so I really don't see how opening sales to the west makes any difference. This is the real story behind crudes over supply.

There is the real answer for the Saud's flooding of the oil market.  They are trying to starve Iran's military build-up and with Obama providing them with $150b large, best to cut off those additional dollars as much as possible.

Obama not only has set the table for the next large conflict, he's already chosen sides.

Goldman Sachs owns it and is short oil. They were waiting for the right moment to ship it to send a message to the market of an oill glut.  Shorting is easy when you control everything.  Why you think Obama got the Iran deal?  Goldman wants it.

Why not just use old Soviet election processes?   For instance, Clinton/Bush 2016.   Your choice is yes or no.  You get a piece of paper and put it in a "yes" or "no" box under careful watch of government monitors.   Egypt has the same tradition.  I recall Mubarak (etc.) winning 98% of the vote.  Damn popular, that guy.

Good points. If the oil couldn't be sold we would be hearing all sorts of gloom out of Iran. I haven't heard any real severe bitching, wasn't Marc Rich given a full pardon?

This is a ruse to kill competition for the chosen ones to distribute it. I also think that Iran may already have nukes. They sure aren't bitching and moaning in the press. No, Virginia, I'm not talking about the FSA propaganda cartel. Iran has been strangely quiet as to any negotiations. That's smart to not negotiate in the press.

I've posted before on the problems American Frackers are facing, not the least of which is that all their hedges are running out. In fact, many companies only profits were from their hedges, when they go away, the companies lose money on every barrel pumped. Their debts are still there, junk bonds with high interest.

These Iranian tankers will drive a stake through one of America's great new job creators. Men and women were making real wages, the kind you can support a family and buy a home on. Now those people will be back scrounging for those 8-12 dollar an hour service jobs.

With China on the wane, and commodities like copper, iron, nickle and others tanking, oil has no up side, unless a major conflict with sinking tankers breaks out. If you are investing in that scenario, contact Israel, they may just start sinking Iranian tankers, because shipping oil threatens the precious Israeli state.

That being said, jews are easy to hate for any number of reasons the least important of being anything "palestine" related. Nobody cares about palestinians. Not the israeli leftists, not Hamas, not the PLO, nor even palestinians themselves.

forget about race and religion issues; they are all smoke and mirrors.

Think about geopolitics and you will hit the nail on the head. The issue is not antisemiticism the issue is Zionism; aka an apartheid political construct.

In Iran its a power structure that is vertical and uses religion for holding feudal power.

Same in Saud.

Now the question is WHY a modern nation like the USA gets involved with regressionary nations like Iran, Saud and zionist Israel.

The answer is very simple : US imperial power has to control the one commodity that makes the world go round : CHEAP and ABUNDANT for EXPORT ME OIL. And it all began during the Great Game of Britain vs Russia in 1800 and went Oil monopoly oriented when Mr D'Arcy of Anglo Persian Oil bought a whole swathe of Iran--over a million sq. Kms-- for 10000 £ in 1908 with all mineral rights forever, until Mossadegh nationalised it back in 1951; whence the CIA/MI6 play in 1953 with the Shah put in place.

If it loses that petrodollar link it goes bust as its floating on debt!

Palestine is like Greece, its the pebble that hurts in the Imperial shoe, until it becomes the straw that breaks the Imperial camel's back. This is a thousand year old history that repeats.

When the Crusades began they said : God wills it. Bullshit. Even then, the Crusades were about expropriating the riches of Orient, spice and silk and precious stones. The real objective for the Franks was not Jerusalem, the symbol; the real Objective was Byzantine Constantinople, where all the riches ended up. And they got it in 1204.

The Templar were the oldest banking combine of the TBTF barons of Frankish monopoly games. Until they lost their hold on Constantinople as on Palestine and ended up being burned on the Island of Jews in PAris and having all their wealth confiscated by Pope and King.

Thats what we should do today to the new banskter cabal.

Look at Soros, he would be dead already without his morning baby.

They want something that will only exist after they are dead. Putatively their families, but what are their families but their own genes? And what are your genes and family but your extended family and race?

Thus its about race.

Arms, Oil and $ reserve are NOT free commodities. They are imperial commodities and are tied to the power equation of Imperial constructs.

There is little demand elasticity for nuclear arms; there is little demand elasticity for Saudi oil, as its so cheap (cost wise) none can compete with it and beyond that its tied to the reserve so its incestuous to Imperial power. There is little demand elasticity for a monopoly reserve currency until there is a viable alternative.

And trying to create a market economy for all three of these vital commodities leads inevitably to war IF the world is dominated by ONE superpower; as today.

You have to first BELL THAT CAT !

The Oil glut is the ILLUSION of a material commodity society that finds no buyers, because the financial society has killed that OPTION. Its has become so cancerous that reality is now PAPER wealth denominated in fictitious IOUs.

They prefer that, the Oligarchy HOT money, which buys toxic paper money with theoretically high returns in WS, than to buy REAL wealth which is based on a non renewable and increasingly expensive (in terms of cost) commodity that is the BEDROCK of the industrial and post industrial society; and which has FUELED literally the explosion of world population from 2.5 billion in 1950 to 8 billion in 2015.

If the energy equation now goes asymptotic and energy finds no buyers its goodbye fiat wealth based on a toxic cushion of paper now being pumped by the CBs and their owners the TBTF,  and its goodbye world population. !

"Starla now listed as sailing to Singapore - which doesn't have a waiver from US to take any Iranian oil

Four US warships designed to fight in coastal areas similar to south-east Asian waters will operate out of Singapore by 2018, a senior US Navy official said Tuesday, further underscoring Washington’s military tilt to Asia.

The US paid a small price for berthing four warships in Singapore.

They didn't want everyone to think that their proscriptions and waivers could be traded for the berthing of ships like those vending machines which trade you six peanuts for a quarter, so they didn't tell anyone they gave Singapore the men's room wink.

Sailing to Singapore doesn't mean delivery to Singapore.

Delivery to China would make sense and delivery to Japan would also make sense.
