Update: it appears that far from accidental, there may be an arson element behind these events. According to Greek ERT1 TV, "66 wildfires broke out simultaneously", which is highly improbable without human intervention, begging the question: is someone employing "scorched earth" tactics with Germany's latest vassal state?

Governments, oligarchs, aside, German people never wanted into the EMU. They were happy with the most stable and strong currency of the region. Greece was a basket case before joining the EMU, and reverted back to the mean in 2009.
If you dig deep enough, you will realize that the average person on either side of the equation has been taken for a ride.
Germany is not the devil. Greece is not an angel. Their monetary policies ought to have never been synchronized. They are polar opposites.
The problem is that on both sides of the equation, there is disproportionate influence wielded by a politically connected and wealthy class of privileged rent-seeking parasites who dominate the legislative and judicial bodies.
I think the monetary policy Greece would like to have is due to the fiscal policy they do have.
Greece needs a reset. Not gonna happen. They are a failed state.

80 Firefighters? 80? 3 airtankers and 18 engines? As a long time (20+ years) Northern CA rural firefighter who has fought his share of wildfires, that is a ridiculously small number - should be, and hopefully is by now, more like 400+ on the ground, plus six or so airtankers and 30+ engines.
