Trump Hits A Bump

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by James H Kunstler via Kunstler.com,

Was it Donald Trump or the wolverine that lives on top of his head who made the dumb crack over the weekend about Senator John McCain not being a war hero? After all, that ambiguous patch of ginger-colored fur has taken on a life of its own. If I were Trump, I’d simply disown the remark and say that the hair-thing blurted it out, ventriloquist-style, because he (Donald) forgot to feed it that morning.

I just want to go on record to say that if John McCain is not a war hero — what with getting shot down in the Vietnam jungle and spending 5.5 years being thrashed daily by his captors — than Donald Trump is not an asshole, or a pendejo, as the landscaping crew might put it (perhaps even a maricón).

One thing the Trump campaign is proving - to the flustered consternation of the moiling herd of other candidates - is what intellectual chickenshits all mainstream American politicians are. I know it is hard to see through the prevailing rainbow fog of diversity propaganda, but the USA really does have an immigration problem. My peeps in the old Democrat fold are the worst, of course, because they are not even capable of stating the plain truth that an illegal immigrant is something more than just “undocumented,” as if some bureaucratic error were made in God’s intake stack. And the issue of legal immigration policy is simply unmentionable, of course, because being “a nation of immigrants” means never having to say enough is enough.

It’s obvious that much of the developed world is now so beset by past immigration policy choices and by the current inrush of desperate souls fleeing the evermore general breakdown of societies across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). European pols are at least willing to have the debate, unappetizing as it might be. This dreaded political dance is now occurring against the background of a probable financial breakdown across Europe. When the utopian project of the European Union fails, as seems likely now due to the sovereign debt fiasco, I suspect that we will see a renewed effort to defend national cultures — French, German, and all the rest — in a manner that has a great potential for turning ugly. Financial failure means the death of the current banking system and the disappearance of massive notional wealth, and if that isn’t a recipe for extreme nationalism (plus xenophobia) than we are truly blind to the lessons of history.

And then, of course, there is the problem of Jihad. It’s for real, and it’s on the move all over MENA, and quite a few of its faithful agents are in place across Europe to make a whole heap of trouble in the event that the Euroland project falls on its face. This is perhaps beyond the question of merely preserving national identities. I think we will live to see an era of mass expulsions, fair or not.

It is not so easy to explain why America has its head so far up its ass on the issues of immigration, but maybe it is enough to say that sixty-plus years of TV advertising have set us up to be suckers for every sort of paid shill selling a sentimental sob story for one interest or another. This seems to be true most particularly of the educated class that labors in the trenches of advertising and public relations (i.e. propaganda). They have come go believe their own bullshit absolutely. Apparently, these true-blue believers are more hostage to the narratives they are paid to spin than the ragtag followers of Trump. (We’re a nation of immigrants….)

Were I a pol, I would propose a “time-out” from immigration of all kinds. The USA did it before, in the 1920s, after a half-century of prodigious immigration when new states needed to be settled, and new industries needed to be manned, and new cities needed to be built. We are not in the same circumstances anymore. The empty places have been filled (and then some). The factories were banished to China and elsewhere. Some of America’s farming regions aren’t working out so well a hundred years later — Nebraska has been depopulating and God knows what the fate will be of California’s Central Valley as the epochal drought creeps forward. The Chinese may be building super-duper mega-cities, but every fact of coming resource scarcity suggests to me that they are making the wrong bet on that disposition of things. It ain’ happening here, anyway. Our cities (with a few exceptions) face contraction.

Unfortunately, Trump’s antics will make it only more difficult to hold a sane debate about taking that time-out from immigration. So, one alternative is an insane debate about it, one based on sheer grievance and gall rather than the responsibilities of governance. I’ve proposed for many years that we are all set up to welcome a red-white-and-blue, corn-pone Nazi political savior type. I don’t think Donald Trump is it. But he will be a stalking horse for a far more skillful demagogue when the time comes. There’s a fair chance that the wheels will come off the banking and monetary system well before the 2016 election. Who knows who or what will come out of the woodwork before then.

Meanwhile, notice today’s headline from the fabled “newspaper of record” (The New York Times):

Women Who Dye Their (Armpit) Hair

Yes, these are the mighty issues that concern us most.

Plenty of things can be said about McCain and can be verified.  He may want to study them and go over them in detail.  First thing that comes to mind is McCain setting a carrier on fire by being a dumb-ass showboat, that incident killed some sailors.  Then we can go into how he was treated like royalty by the Vietnamese while he was captured, that can be verified.  Then we can go into his support for ending the 2nd amendment, just go into his voting record.

~"Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun."~

The American political machine is much more esoteric than that. (at least for now.)

A transcript from something Rush Limbaugh pointed out today.

"There's a conventional wisdom out there, and this is generally how it goes.  Public figure, slash, candidate, slash, political figure, makes politically incorrect statement that offends somebody.

The Washington establishment and media react in outrage.  The media then replays whatever the offensive comment was over and over and over, news stories never ending about the outrageous statement that the public figure made.  And then the establishment gets together with the media, and they all demand that the public figure immediately apologize, beg forgiveness, and either withdraw from whatever the public figure is seeking to accomplish, or to stay in properly chagrined and rendered irrelevant.

That conventional wisdom plays out practically every time this circumstance happens.  And the reason it does is because people make the mistake of assuming one thing, and that is this.  They make the mistake of assuming that the collective outrage of the Washington establishment and the media is reflective of American public opinion.  That's an automatic conclusion that everybody draws."

You can read the rest of it here:

http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2015/07/20/trump_teachable_moment_how_...

I think that the MSM and TPTB in Washington be counting their chickens before they hatch. Stay tuned...

Instead of blaming the illegals for taking the stuff they take, why don't you concentrate on the corrupt government that gives them your tax money in the first place? Seems like you're bitching at the wrong folks here.

You're putting the cart before the horse on this one, pissing in the wind, not seeing the forest for the trees....whatever you wanna call it.  Blame the douchebags in charge, not the peons who game the system that was set up for them. It's the system itself....not the players in it.

The Federal Reserve Bank of the U.S. and the Internal Revenue Service are all primarily staffed by WASP motherfuckers?

No.

IRS.gov has been diversifying and purging WASPs for years through affirmative action programs.

Many posters at ZH point out that the FED is controlled by Zionist Jews.

And not all illegals are here to pick apples.

Look at states like California where there are millions of illegals.  Children of illegals in California get free public education and are never refused medical care. As of 2014, illegals in California get:

• Access to a low-cost auto insurance program;

• California driver’s licenses;

• A new California DREAM loan program at the University of California and California State University systems;

• And for minors who arrived without their parents and face deportation, $3 million for their legal representation.

State Sen. Ricardo Lara and his Senate Democrats in the California State legislature approved a bill that would allow many immigrants in the state illegally to sign up for special healthcare programs that would offer the same benefits as citizens on Medi-Cal.

So what's your answer? Build a wall that costs billions of dollars, not to mention the unimaginable amount of cash it would take to hire, maintain, give paychecks to, plus medical, pensions, illegal-sniffing dogs, vehicles, border stations and all the fuel and electricity expense that goes with them....not to mention the massive amount of bribery that would inevitably take place? Keep dreaming.

There are two reasons illegals come here. Either they come here to make an honest buck, in which case, I have no problem with them at all.......OR they're getting welfare from the same government you want to hire to keep them out. End the welfare, the rest would take care of itself on its own.

Anything else is just a pipe dream, unless you want to live in Nazi Germany 2.0

Your solution is better but way less practical and likely than a barrier, which is actually part of US law (unfunded). Let's do both.

Mon, 07/20/2015 - 17:20 | 6334183 SilverFish
SilverFish's picture

The problem with a barrier is that for it to be effective, you'd have to end the reason the welfare seekers come over the border in the first place. As long as there's something free to get on the other side, they'll find away around, under, over, through, or bribe a border guard to get it. That's the reality so many people just don't want to face. It's the same mentality as the war on drugs supporters have. They don't look at things realistically, but instead look at things ideally. The problem with that is things always look better on paper than they do in reality. Incentive is the key. You have to get rid of it. Doesn't matter if you're talking about drugs or people crossing the border. The rules are the same and those realities do not care one bit about what we might think.

Sure, we can spend billions and billions of dollars building a wall and millions more every year to maintain operations, but it won't solve the problem, I guarantee it. Same reason the war on drugs doesn't work no matter how much money they throw at it.  It's like getting a flat tire on a car and the guy driving gets out and just starts doing push ups on the ground next to the car and you ask him why he's doing it and he says "Well, we have to do SOMETHING!" Sure, something needs to be done, but doing something that doesn't work is sometimes worse than doing nothing.

But you already are as all American citizens are victims of the illegal alien invasion, a war on American citizens waged by rogue and illegitimate lawbreaking criminal usurpers infesting the FEDGOV.

Pray for the thousands of innocent American citizens who have been murdered by their own government.

The ONLY reason we have this problem is because business wants cheap labor.

Just enforce the hiring requirements and start fining the sit out of any business caught with illegal workers, and Mitt Romney's idea of self deportation begins to start working.

We don't even need new laws.  Simply enforce the ones on the books.

But, you don't need a fence the entire length of the border, either, just the parts near population centers.  The desert areas can be patrolled by drones and sensors, plus staging areas in Mexico would be easily visible from satellite imaging.

The problem is lack of will, not lack of ability.  This shit is not an accident.

You know who trained MS13 in the early days? Black gangs in LA.  Central american illegals went to LA and were getting their asses handed to them by the LA black gangs, so they formed their own gang, and did quite a good job of it. This newly formed gang then went back to central america and started recruiting in earnest.

Hard to believe you have more downvotes than upvotes for this. You should watch the Vice news piece on the illegal immigrant ban in Alabama. Long story short, farmers couldn't find people to pick watermelons anymore.  They tried kids, ex-cons and finally had to have family fly in from out of state to harvest until the law was repealed.

If may not be a fact you like, but the fact is these people do work that Americants simply will not do. Why work when you can suck the .gov tit?

Business needs to learn that the free market works both ways, not just in the one way that favors them.

Can't find people to pick watermelons for minimum wage with no benefits. Gee, guess you might have to offer a better wage, or better working conditions, or some other incentives.

But no, can't have that, can't have the free market lead to wage improvements. Business can't find americans willing to work as virtual slaves and their only solution is to cry a river and beg to be allowed to bring in Mexicans to serve as slaves.

Pathetic.

Agreed.Mc Cain is no hero. What did he do? He was a spoiled brat all through Annapolis and saw himself as a top gun no matter what. Then he went into politics. That was an evil day. What did he do that was so great? Then as a geriatric pest he ran for president and ensured that Obama would get in. So we can thank him for that.

Then there's the little matter of him laughing and posing for photos with his serial killer friends in ISIS that he insisted upon arming. Never mind that these criminals murder for sport. Some hero.

This whole current hero thing started when McCain ran his smartass mouth again when Trump easily drew a crowd of 15,000 to a campaign stop. McCain called these ordinary Americans "15,000 crazies" with his customary smugness towards us. But McCain underestimated Trump. He did expect to get the smackdown he so richly deserved. Now he's running around like a schoolboy crying that somebody said something mean about his hero thing.

@Froze25:

yeah, mccain has never been much for character.  the showboating was just the tip of a ghastly mound of flotsam...admiral's son who treated the navy like his own personal romper-room.  abusive and dismissive of the lower ranks.  terrible and sloppy pilot (why he was taken hostage to begin with).  i have this crazy suspicion that the POW shit was sorta staged, to be later leveraged into political currency...much like the war antics of another presidential candidate from a few years ago.

rumor has it that those days in NVC were filled with frivolities and the nights were never passed without some soft indo-chin comfort...but that's just a rumor.

and with respect to mr. kunstlers horror that there may soon be a time when america begins the process of defining what is and what is not american, i must frankly say that i find no horror whatsoever in such an undertaking.  he calls this demagoguery...sounds like mr. kuntsler has stooped to reductive and simple-minded name-calling to janus.  yes, mr. kuntsler, americans may very well respond with enthusiasm if a voice of courage emerges that isn't some stooge of sinister interests.  we are a nation partially populated by immigrants, and the rest of us are the progeny of pioneers and settlers.  and as regards immigrants, the experiment was a success so long as those peoples constituting the flavors in our melting pot did two things: learned english and adopted the modes and mores of americana.  that is to say, irish, italian, german, scandanvian, french and others have fitted together splendidly because their cultures were suitably similar in the endeavor of 'one among many'.  all that being said, now that immigration has assumed the nasty characteristics of several and sundry blobs floating in a colloid; now that these groups come to establish a mini-sudan or what-have-you; now that immigration has become a divisive enterprise of groupings into hostile and contentious factions arrayed against the many, it is time to start defining what is and what is not american.

if you don't like it, mr. kuntsler, i recommend you start house hunting in haifa.

Einstein said the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and then expecting a different result.  The sheeple have been electing and reelecting career politicians over and over and the country has never ever been in as much debt or so nastily divided along racial economical, political, social and religous lines.  I say it's the divisive fudgepacker who fomented this along with its progressive liberal democrap minons and stooges...

He was too easy on McCain...that prick.  His wife waited...then he comes back and leaves her because she got in an accident and gained weight...DICK.

.....from article..

Some of McCain’s acquaintances are less forgiving, however. They portray the politician as a self-centred womaniser who effectively abandoned his crippled wife to ‘play the field’. They accuse him of finally settling on Cindy, a former rodeo beauty queen, for financial reasons.

.

But setting out to have a good time, the young McCain hung out with a group of young officers who called themselves the ‘Bad Bunch’.

His primary interest was women and his conquests ranged from a knife-wielding floozy nicknamed ‘Marie, the Flame of Florida’ to a tobacco heiress.

Senator John McCain never fails to label himself a conservative Republican, but what he never mentions is that his political past is at odds with his claims of actually being a conservative Republican:

His discussions in 2001 with Democrats about leaving the Republican Party, and

His conversations in 2004 with Senator John Kerry about becoming Mr. Kerry’s running mate on the Democratic presidential ticket.

He went on to crash 3 more, would not have been a pow if the navy had done the right thing and thrown his ass out. He was a rotten pilot, a worse officer, a bastard husband, and a cheating congressman and senator. Stop with the "immigration" already.  NOBODY is against immigration.   You are part of the problem.

What "we" oppose is the destruction of our sovereignty, the dismantling of our borders, the flooding of millions of illegal border crossers into our  nation with no regard to the rule of law.  Then giving them beneits, citizenship, etc.

If you cannot discern the difference, you are not very bright.

the "flood" of immigrants into the US and Europe

should "discern" what is causing the flood.

Namely, the deceptively named so-called wars on "drugs" and "terror",

and the ruinous trade practices that turn local farm families into sweatshop workers.

It is rather myopic to expect no blowback of hostility,

trump has been outspoken about the fed. he's talked over the past 7 years how they are skewing the real picture & widening the wealth divide.

he had me up until what he said about mccain: you simply do not talk negatively about a guy who serves his country. period. while vietnam was another senseless war, mccain didn't orchistrate it. he sat in a POW camp for 5 years. he is a war hero.

as for a senator, he's the biggest dipshit we have in there. im almost glad obama beat him (full disclosure, i did vote for mccain & proceeded to vomit as i walked out of the voting booth) because there isn't a country mccain wouldn't have bombed by now. syria, libya, iran, iraq (again) afghanistan - we'd all be engage militarily & who the fuck knows what his "plan" would have been with russia and china: im guessing he would load up the south china sea with our entire navy and have every last marine, army, & airforce surrounding the russian border. i don't trust mccain AT ALL directing traffic because i have not heard him ONCE talk about establishing relationships: all it seems he wants to do is flex military might and in my book, thats NOT called national defense - its called national offense and not something im in favor of.

You don't dis a guy who served with honor.  As a combat veteran, I can say that McInsane didn't serve with honor.  The VC called him "the Songbird" for a reason - he gave up everything they wanted to know - and who knows how many lives he gave up in the process just so he could be more comfortable.  He should have never been in that plane when he got shot down, but because his daddy pulled his ass out of the fire (covered for his grotesque incompetence and arrogance) ... he was.  Anyone else would have lost their wings long before that time.  It turns my stomach when people defend him as I know of many men who were 100 times the soldier he ever was who didn't make it home.  Add to that the fact that he's yet again selling out Americans by supporting Muslim terrorists and the parasitic Military-Industrial Complex  - and is more than willing to spill the blood of American soldiers in useless wars - and you have the makings of a truly despicable piece of shit.  All the POW time in the world can't make up for the damage he's done.  He's a disgrace to the uniform.

Was McCain a hero? I'm not sure about that. It seems his peers gave mixed reviews. Simply being a POW qualifies one for sympathy, but not hero status automatically.

Besides, McCain has distinguished himself, as a Senator, to be a significant hazard to his state and his country. A total establishment hack and a war hawk who wants to bomb anything that moves. Seems he has little regard for the lives of those that wear the uniform.

The Donald: analysis by Dr Kevin MacDonald

We all rack our brains every day trying how to break through in a system that is completely stacked against us. How could it happen—a political movement that would ignite the imaginations of White America, depose the corrupt donor class in the Republican Party, and begin to really take the country back?

Right now, doing so is a huge uphill battle. The oppressive mainstream media environment is closed to obviously true messages that Whites have interests just like everybody else. Indeed, it is busy tearing down what’s left of traditional American culture. And despite the internet, the mainstream media, including outlets such as Fox News, continues to wield enormous power, and the vast majority of Americans, including educated Americans, accept its legitimacy and moral authority. Despite the First Amendment, we all know that there are a variety of very powerful social sanctions against anyone who contravenes the racial consensus.

Trump’s statements on the criminal tendencies and generally low functioning of Mexican and Central American immigrants have struck a chord with White America. And he certainly did not fall in my estimation when he attacked two prominent operatives of the Republican Party/Israel Lobby nexus hostile to his candidacy, Charles Krauthammer and Jonah Goldberg. Then there’s the Twitter incident: “I promise you that I’m much smarter than Jonathan Leibowitz — I mean Jon Stewart @TheDailyShow,” tweeted Trump, adding, “Who, by the way, is totally overrated.” It is, of course, considered “anti-Semitic” to ever call attention to the fact that someone is Jewish because of the absolutely outrageous suggestion that the Jewish identity of someone like Stewart/Leibowitz might influence his opinions. As we all know, Jews are just like everybody else.

These are perhaps the first shots in what will become a raging conflagration between the Jewish media establishment and Trump if he continues to gain traction.

At the very least Trump would stop the following:

Immigrant Families Released Faster from Detention Centers

Mothers with children are being released from Texas immigrant detention centers more quickly in the weeks since the nation’s top immigration official announced policy changes

You know in the 1960s the Jews started the "Free Speech Movement" now when they near TOTAL POWER they don't like it so much...

Wallingford police look into complaint about Nazi, Confederate items sold at flea market, by Mary Ellen Godin, Meriden Record-Journal July 10, 2015

Local police received a complaint when a shopper discovered Nazi and Confederate merchandise at a popular flea market last weekend, according to Chief William Wright.

An officer responded to the Redwood Flea Market on South Turnpike Road Sunday to investigate the report and found Nazi and Confederate memorabilia for sale. He told the complainant, who is Jewish, there was nothing police could do because the merchandise was on private property.

“I was shaking and almost vomiting,” he said. “I had to run. My grandmother had numbers,” he said, referring to the Nazi system of tattooing numbers on prisoners.

The man also contacted Mayor William W. Dickinson Jr., who immediately asked Wright to determine if any laws were broken.

“I had to check with the chief over what is actionable and what isn’t,” Dickinson said. “Unless something violates state or federal law, there’s no jurisdiction for government to do anything. We had to ask, is it something controlled by law?”

Joshua Sayles, assistant regional director of the Anti-Defamation League in Connecticut, said...
“It’s not the first time I’ve heard of this,” Sayles said. “It’s unfortunate that under the law people have the right to sell these things; but it doesn’t mean they should sell these things. It’s not a crime but I would call it hate. People look at the situation in Charleston and say it’s down in the South. But this stuff is here in Connecticut.”

South African Dan Roodt, November 9, 2012

Many whites will emigrate or move to the remaining red states, just as South Africa’s whites have emigrated since 1994. But ultimately there will be no place to go, as the global demographic decline of whites means that even European countries suffer the same fate of dispossession.

Demography is destiny, as Auguste Comte said. There is a mysterious process whereby whites react to racial domination not by rioting or claiming special privileges as other races do, but by working harder, having even fewer children, and quarrelling among themselves. We see this happening in South Africa, in Western Europe and, of course, in America, where white Republicans and Democrats are like two dogs fighting over a bone, while a third is about to run away with it and leave them with nothing.

The Republican Party is poised to adopt the attitude of South Africa’s liberal opposition party, the Democratic Alliance, which has forsaken its core white support and practices affirmative action in its own ranks. There are three women on its election posters: one white, one colored or mixed-race, and one black, at once expressing the party’s diversity and its disdain for the white male.

Lest we forget, the rank and file of the Republican Party rebelled against Ronald Reagan’s veto and passed sanctions against South Africa on Sept. 29, 1986.

Since that time, the U.S. has consistently pursued an anti-white foreign policy. In Southern Africa it supported black Marxist movements such as the African National Congress (ANC) and the South West African Peoples Organization (SWAPO). In Europe, it has called for a large Muslim state—Turkey—to be included in the European Union. Would the American elite ever adopt a pro-white policy domestically while pursuing the opposite of such a policy externally?

There are three forces that are likely to determine the Republican Party’s position on white interests. The first is the wishes of its own electorate; the second is the corporate sector that funds the party, and the third is the mainstream media. America’s large corporations support affirmative action and diversity, while the media support multiculturalism. The GOP will follow their bidding and betray its voters.

Like the whites of the former Rhodesia, South West Africa, and South Africa, Republicans will embark on a forlorn search for conservative allies “of color” whom non-white voters will reject as traitors. Even if a black woman such as Condoleezza Rice could be fielded as the next Republican presidential candidate, it is doubtful whether many blacks or Hispanics would vote for her.
Patrick Buchanan and others have already chronicled “the death of the West,” but we need to understand the laws of this process, because it follows a pattern of false hopes, interspersed with successive betrayals by white leaders.

American whites could become a minority much sooner than they think. That has been our experience in South Africa; people appreciate the enormity of change only after it is too late.

Trump is right about POWs not automatically being heroes -- otherwise most of the French Army were heroes in 1940!

And he is also correct in that many 'non-heroes', who were not captured, are in fact - heroes too.

And he is also correct in that McCain has spent more time trying to get us into foreign wars than he has looking after current Vets or in fighting military reductions. How do we get a 40,000 man cut in the military when Republicans control both Houses of Congress and McCain is supposed to be a 'leader'?

Trump's problem, of course, is that he is not a rehearsed TelePrompTer guy, so how he says something sometimes gets more attention than what he says.

Veterans Today senior editor, Gordon Duff, writes today in “Trump Opens McCain’s Treasonous Can of Worms”:

33 POWs faced execution for treason after Vietnam until Nixon pardoned all POWs.  McCain was on the list of the 33, in fact at the head of it.

Here are the facts as we know them:

  • According to Colonel Ted Guy, John McCain’s commander as a POW, McCain collaborated with the enemy.
  • McCain is accused of giving information that led to the downing of 60 US aircraft
  • McCain is accused of training North Vietnamese air defense personnel
  • McCain is accused of making over 30 propaganda broadcasts against the US, broadcasts he moved to have classified when he was elected to the senate

These 4 accusations are the only real and supportable accusations against McCain.  The evidence for these acts exists and is substantial.  What is stranger still is McCain’s longtime war against veterans, other POWs and their families….

Concludes Duff: “The door Donald opened should be kept open.”

“If I were Trump, I’d simply disown the remark…” – James H. Kunstler

Luckily, Kunstler, you are not Trump… because your idea of political discourse is to be nice, to compromise, and as a result there would be no huge identification of America’s tsunami of Third World immigration.

Trump is bombastic, and with unreserved speech he has exploded the "more of the same" kinds of political campaigns that have given us the Bushes, the Clintons, the Obamas and Romneys…and John McCain.

With a host of criticisms of Donald Trump’s correct classification of John McCain, including Zero Hedge’s, the Trump campaign must be getting extremely close to unveiling the true non-war-hero, John McCain. Because, thanks to extensive research by journalists and  various web sites, the true performance of John McCain in Vietnam can now be revealed and proven.

And it ain’t pretty.

All this is wrapped up this morning in a long, detailed account of the Tokyo Rose activity of John McCain:

Ron Unz, “John McCain: When ‘Tokyo Rose’ Ran for President.” Here is a brief excerpt:

Everything suddenly changed in June 2008 when I read a long article by an unfamiliar writer on the leftist Counterpunch website. Shocking claims were made that McCain may never have been tortured and that he instead spent his wartime captivity collaborating with his captors and broadcasting Communist propaganda, a possibility that seemed almost incomprehensible to me given all the thousands of contrary articles that I had absorbed over the decades from the mainstream media. How could this one article on a small website be the truth about McCain’s war record and everything else be total falsehood? The evidence was hardly overwhelming, with the piece being thinly sourced and written in a meandering fashion by an obscure author, but the claims were so astonishing that I made some effort to investigate the matter, though without any real success.

However, those new doubts about McCain were still in my mind a few months later when I stumbled upon Sidney Schanberg’s massively documented expose about McCain’s role in the POW/MIA cover up, a vastly greater scandal. This time I was presented with a mountain of hard evidence gathered by one of America’s greatest wartime journalists, a Pulitzer Prize winning former top editor at The New York Times. In the years since then, other leading journalists have praised Schanberg’s remarkable research, now giving his conclusions the combined backing of four New York Times Pulitzer Prizes, while two former Republican Congressmen who had served on the Intelligence Committee have also strongly corroborated his account.

In 1993 the front page of the New York Times broke the story that a Politburo transcript found in the Kremlin archives fully confirmed the existence of the additional POWs…

Schanberg was given total cred by the media and pundits for The Killing Fields, they pretty much deserted him for that POW/MIA research.

Trump makes dumb cracks like it's central to his personal code, but there are plenty among the POW/MIA crowd who've been slamming John McCain's "war hero" status for years. The whole point of a hypothetical Donald Trump candidacy would be to siphon off right wing Democrat-Republican votes to ensure left wing Democrat-Republican victory in 2016 (ala Ross Perot), and he could achieve this end with mere Ralph Nader numbers. Trump can ass-clown up a storm and alienate the Republican base all he wants; his only job in the election scheme is to prove he can successfully rope in a small constituency from the conservative margins -- Billary will take it from there.

Trump was never going to make it to the elections, just out to show how smart he is, how stupid and corrupt our leaders are. Mostly to show how smart he is. I'm surprised he stepping in it so quickly, but he was always going to do so. If the market (I almost said economy, derrr!) tanks before the elections, people will be a lot less politically correct about securing the borders, saving jobs, etc. Trump set the plate for that discussion, see if it happens.

Just opened your mouth and removed all doubt about the dumbass you really are, didn't you?

Ronald Regan was the last President to sit in the WH that actually gave a shit about this country and its citizens.  For THAT reason alone, he gets a pass for some of the mistakes he made.

As far as him being an actor, at least he came from a day when actors played roles that demonstrated standards, principle, character and morality.  The Hollywood of Ronanld Regan, Jimmy Stewart, and MY MAN the Gary Cooper makes this country look like a hell hole in comparison.

Hell, you probably have never seen a black and white movie.  Try it sometime.  You'll be shocked at the things this country used to stand for and what we were against.  You'll probably be ashamed of yourself.

The reporting and commentary on Trump's McCain remarks just illustrates the dominant media and the Republican establishment's WILLFUL DISTORTION of the statements of someone they desperately want to take down.

Trump explicitly said, several times, that McCain is a "war hero".

He further amplified that McCain acquired the sobriquet of "war hero" by being captured and held as a POW.

Trump commented that he preferred that his war heros not earn their war hero credentials by being captured.

As a retired Vietnam era veteran, I completely agree.

I would prefer that McCain earn his war hero stature, not by rotting in a Hanoi prison camp, but by flying attack missions over North Viet Nam and blowing up  NVA and Viet Cong supply lines.

Absolutely nothing objectionable or disrespectful about Trump's remarks.  The disrespect is owed to those who choose to distort the clear intent of Trump's comments.

"If I were Trump, I’d simply disown the remark" Obviously your're not even like Trump, he has the balls to stand behind what he says and not be cowed into appeasing the pc media.

"One thing the Trump campaign is proving - to the flustered consternation of the moiling herd of other candidates - is what intellectual chickenshits all mainstream American politicians are." And this troubling to you?

"It’s obvious that much of the developed world is now so beset by past immigration policy choices.." so you're complaining about the only candidate who speaks the truth about it?

"And then, of course, there is the problem of Jihad" and you would prefer to have someone with less negotiatiing skill tackle this problem?

It is not so easy to explain why America has its head so far up its ass on the issues of immigration" yeah, it's easy to explain; we would have had a fence long ago (according to the law) if not for corrupt politicians craving both votes and personal enrichment.

"Unfortunately, Trump’s antics will make it only more difficult to hold a sane debate about taking that time-out from immigration." what antics, like wanting Americans and American laws to be considered before illegal immigrants? or, telling the truth about corrupt senators? like promoting American business over foreign interests? like having his own wealth and accomplishments before he tries to run the biggest economy on the planet?

I not actually a Trump shill but it's long past time that pundits like you shut the hell up and let the chips fall where they may with the people who have skin in the fucking game..

If being a POW is being a hero, then we must have had and have a million "heroes" in the military of the years.

Hero should be reserved for those men and women who have  managed to avoid capture while saving the lives of others, who were captured saving the lives of others, who have given their lives or managed to survive while saving the lives of others.

POWs do not qualify for hero status. They are the unlucky collateral damage that occurs in war.

McCain is bullshit artist of the first degree who managed somehow to be as addled as Reagan, and STILL gets re-elected.  Throw the neo-con, israel loving McCain out and put some new blood in Arizona, you stupid, idiotic, numbskull, imbecilic voters.

Trump is a Narcissist to the hundredth power, but he is right and should have prefaced or followed his remark about illegal aliens, and McCain with this caveat by Mencken:

For some unknow reason Americans have a natural bias against the truth, no matter who tells it.

Very well put.  It could also be said that a hero is unlikely to attempt to capitalize on his hero status, it would most likely be counter to his nature.  That was certainly never a problem for McStain.

One of the more admired presidents of Mexico was Lázaro Cárdenas. He was of 100% native American ancestry and his adminstration was marked by a healing of the wounds of the revolutionary period of the teens and twenties.  He nationalized the petroleum industry which protected that natural resource from foreign exploitation while the US was distracted by the depression and the coming war.  But, in a bow to racist sentiment, he was also the president who presided over the expulsion of all Chinese immigrants.  You would be hard put to find a single person of Chinese ancestry in Mexico today.  This is in contrast to all the other countries of the Caribbean area, each of which has a substantial Chinese community.  Given the current immigration issue in the US, it is ironic that millions of Mexicans have entered the US illegally, after Mexico itself had ruthlessly expelled their Chnese population in the thirties.  There are differences, of course.  Wherever they settled the Chinese specialized in setting up retail food stores, competing with local businesses and not always dealing ethically with their clientele, while Mexicans in the US, for the most part, are happy to take any job that will enable them to fight off  poverty for themselves and their families back home.  The biggest factor promoting illegal immigration from Mexico, apart from escaping poverty, is the desire of US employers to hire cheap, ununionized labor at the lowest possible price.  Some of the loudest denouncers of illegal immigration, in a grotesque hypocracy, are the same people with gardeners and maids who are illegal.

As you say, “It is not so easy to explain why America has its head so far up its ass on the issues of immigration”.

Protestant historian Eric John Phelps says that the blacks were used after the civil war in the 14th Amendment making all citizens federal subjects first and state citizens second in a federal power grab.

He says the Civil Rights laws of 1964 also used blacks in a federal power grab in their new role as racism police.

He points out that new welfare benefits in 1968 promoted increasing black and minority populations in order to counter a national protestant majority identity.

These new rewards for minority illegitimacy and the promotion of illegal immigration furthered a divide and conquer strategy of our hidden oligarch corporate rulers.
