A Tale Of Two Nasdaq Extremes: Amazon Up 17%, Biogen Down 17%

Tyler Durden's picture

While Amazon is up 17%, the Nasdaq party is being spoiled by the 17% collapse in Biogen following its aggressive guidance cut. As we noted previously, Biogen is the 4th most profitable biotech company and this 'scare' is weighing heavy on Janet Yellen's favorite short industry as the entire Biotech index is sliding.

Amazon Up 17%

Biogen Down 17%...

2015 Financial Guidance

As previously announced, the Company plans to provide annual financial guidance and one update per year. Biogen’s mid-year update to its full year 2015 financial guidance consists of the following components:

  • Revenue growth is expected to be approximately 6% to 8% compared to 2014, a decrease from prior guidance based largely on revised expectations for the growth of TECFIDERA.
  • R&D expense is expected to be approximately 19% to 20% of total revenue, unchanged from prior guidance.
  • SG&A expense is expected to be approximately 20% to 21% of total revenue, unchanged from prior guidance.
  • GAAP diluted EPS is expected to be between $14.25 and $14.70, a decrease from prior guidance.
  • Non-GAAP diluted EPS is expected to be between $15.50 and $15.95, a decrease from prior guidance.
  • Biogen may incur charges, realize gains or experience other events in 2015 that could cause actual results to vary from this guidance.

Don't forget, Biogen is the 4th most profitable Biotech...

And Nasdaq is getting hammereed as the Biotech contagion spreads...

Fucking Biotechs.  Worthelss piles of shit.

Hey, look, we found a new way of administering a 30 year old drug!  Yay!  Hand me a fresh 20 year patent and add another 100 billion to my market cap.  Bonuses for everyone!! (Well, everyone in the C-suite, anyway)

biotech is the future. on this, I'm absolutely convinced. on the other side, there was a time when railroads were the future, and for a long while that future was full of malinvestments, stock crashes, takeovers that went wrong, more malinvestment, bubbles, bubbles and more bubbles, ridden by shills and bad management. so from the point of investment... sometimes the future is simply too exciting

I would never buy it, but Amazon is positioned to dominate the infrastructure as a service industry for decades. As a company, I wouldn't underestimate them. On the retail side, whatever.

What's the big deal? It just means the central banks dumps the Bio-gen and buys Amazon.

Create an online markeplace where anyone can sign up to sell unregulated and counterfeit goods, and stock buyers love it.  Ban sales of the rebel flag to give the impression there is some authority over the marketplace, stock buyers love it even more.

It apparently works. Tried to buy one from americanflags but never received it... wrote many times,,, no response,,, but it appears they'll keep the green.

Amazon actually put it in print that the government told them the flag could not be sold. How's that for Market Place control!

ZH has been quiet about it, I really don't blame them,,, this reeks of PC. For the most part the "American People" are a pathetic bunch.

Screaming "they hate us because we're free" while sending their sons and daughters to be slaughtered in empire wars but not able to purchase a flag or afraid to say something that might offend someone somewhere.

Yea,,,, freedumb reigns.

Boy.  Good thing I followed ZH advise, got out of the stock bubble and invested in silver.  Oh wait.

Correct me if I am wrong but I have never seen a ZH article (written by a Tyler) advise the reader to buy anything unless they were using sarcasm.

Which stock will CNBS emphasize today?   NYT's Stewart "The fact that Amazon now has a bigger cap than Walmart is breathtaking and a sign of how quick business moves today"

Everytime I fart in the tub, cetain bubbles rise to the top before other bubbles do but they all smell the same.

Whenever I hear the word "biotech" the image of a space alien dressed in a KurtRayzVile costume talking gibberish comes to mind.
