Concerned About "Treason" Charges, Varoufakis Issues Public Statement On "Cloak And Dagger" Drachma "Plan B"
Over the weekend, the media world was abuzz with the leaked recording made during a July 16 "Greek Day" meeting by the Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum (OMFIF) which included a group of sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, and life insurers in which it was reveaked that Yanis Varoufakis had been in the process of preparing Greece for a cloak and dagger "Plan B" which included as its highlight a process for returning to the Drachma.
Previously we presentted both the Kathimerini framing of this leak, as well as the recording itself (which was hardly supposed to be made public).
Overnight, the Telegraph's Ambrose-Pritchard reported that "Mr Varoufakis told the Telegraph that the quotes were accurate but some reports in the Greek press had been twisted, making it look as if he had been plotting a return to the drachma from the start.
"The context of all this is that they want to present me as a rogue finance minister, and have me indicted for treason. It is all part of an attempt to annul the first five months of this government and put it in the dustbin of history," he said.
"It totally distorts my purpose for wanting parallel liquidity. I have always been completely against dismantling the euro because we never know what dark forces that might unleash in Europe," he said.
It remains to be seen if treason charges are forthcoming but Varoufakis isn't wasting time, and after giving unofficial on the record comments to the Telegraph, moments ago he issued the following public statement on his blog. The highlights are ours.

Statement by Yanis Varoufakis on the FinMin’s Plan B Working Group & the parallel payment system
During the Greek government’s negotiations with the Eurogroup, Minister Varoufakis oversaw a Working Group with a remit to prepare contingency plans against the creditors’ efforts to undermine the Greek government and in view of forces at work within the Eurozone to have Greece expelled from the euro. The Working Group was convened by the Minister, at the behest of the Prime Minister, and was coordinated by Professor James K. Galbraith. (Click here for a statement on the matter by Professor Galbraith).
It is worth nothing [ZH: sic, we hope] that, prior to Mr Varoufakis’ comfirmation of the existence of the said Working Group, the Minister was criticized widely for having neglected to make such contingency plans. The Bank of Greece, the ECB, treasuries of EU member-states, banks, international organisations etc. had all drawn up such plans since 2012. Greece’s Ministry of Finance would have been remiss had it made no attempt to draw up contingency plans.
Ever since Mr Varoufakis announced the existence of the Working Group, the media have indulged in far-fetched articles that damage the quality of public debate. The Ministry of Finance’s Working Group worked exclusively within the framework of government policy and its recommendations were always aimed at serving the public interest, at respecting the laws of the land, and at keeping the country in the Eurozone.
Regarding the recent article by “Kathimerini” newspaper entitled “Plan B involving highjacking and hacking”, Kathimerini’s failure to contact Mr Varoufakis for comment and its reporter’s erroneous references to “highjacking tax file numbers of all taxpayers” sowed confusion and contributed to the media-induced disinformation. The article refers to the Ministry’s project as described by Minister Varoufakis in his 6th July farewell speech during the handover ceremony in the Ministry of Finance. In that speech Mr Varoufakis clearly stated: “The General Secretariat of Information Systems had begun investigating means by which Taxisnet (Nb. the Ministry’s Tax Web Interface) could become something more than it currently is, to become a payments system for third parties, a system that improves efficiency and minimises the arrears of the state to citizens and vice versa.” That project was not part of the Working Group’s remit, was presented in full by Minister Varoufakis to Cabinet, and should, in Minister Varoufakis’ view, be implemented independently of the negotiations with Greece’s creditors, as it will contribute considerable efficiency gains in transactions between the state and taxpayers as well as between taxpayers.
In conclusion, during the five months of negotiations that gripped Europe and changed the debate throughout the Continent, the Ministry of Finance did everything possible to serve the public interest against many odds. The current media campaign to besmirch these efforts will fail to dent the legacy of a crucial five month struggle for democracy and common sense.

I’m no Greek law expert but if one is using the information you yourself provided earlier, I see no evidence of his abusing the authority with which he was entrusted. He was not a “third person” and was indeed included in the definition of “e) public authorities, public legal persons and any other institution administering, monitoring and/or controlling any financial assistance or subsidy or any other aid derived from State or EU funds and addressed to legal or natural persons" who are necessarily required to use this information.
Now, if one were targeting, pursuing and victimizing certain persons and/or organizations because their political beliefs differed from the person/party that awarded the position of trust one was abusing in order to garner favor and/or squelch legitimate and otherwise protected dissent, that person should be spending the rest of their days in a cell next to their benefactor.

“At some point, a week or so after we moved into the ministry, he calls me up and says to me: “You know what? I control the machines, I control the hardware but I do not control the software. The software belongs to the troika controlled General Secretary of Public Revenues. What do I do?” said Varoufakis.

Who does the data belong to?
there is a very simple concept behind all this:
the details are personal, private and confidential. they are, after all, everything taxpayer have to disclose. so you need a reason to access them, and one reason per data point. for example the tax office employee going through a dossier
the aggregated data, the statistics out of them, they are for government work at ministerial level. but they aren't personal anymore
both sets are protected by a Greek Law. so yes, they belong to Greece, but not to the minister of finance, who is supposed to uphold this very law, made in order to protect citizens from government
giving access to foreigners... well, that was something the same Greek government could do, and did... at the level it could access
in short, you can know how much taxes every country gathers. it's sums, after all. a different thing from every tax detail of Grumbleduke

Guys like Varoufakis are NOT going to go through the paradigm shifts to achieve perceptions of the basic political facts that civilizations necessarily operate through applications of the principles and methods of organized crime, which currently manifests as governments being the the biggest forms of organized crime, which are controlled the the best organized gangs of criminals, which are currently the banksters and their buddies. Plan A is for the banksters to continue to control civilization through ENFORCING FRAUDS.

However, such manifestations of resistance tend to be myopic in the degree to which they blame the banksters as solely being responsible for the problems. That tends to be expressed as the superficial notions that the banksters should be arrested and/or executed. However, those superficial notions do not address the deeper reasons for how and why the banksters currently dominate civilization, and control what civilization does by being able to ENFORCE FRAUDS.
The INTENSE PARADOXES are that when one fully faces how and why civilization is being controlled by the biggest gangsters, the banksters, the deeper reasons for that requires that the only realistic resolutions for those real problems must be better organized crime. That is what I would refer to as Plan C.
Plan C would require developing better artificial selection systems which were consistent with natural selection systems. However, that would demand dealing with how and why the existing systems of artificial selection are primarily those of the banksters' ENFORCED FRAUDS. The deeper issues are that money is measurement backed by murder. Therefore, the monetary systems can not be changed without changing the murder systems that back those up. Some people superficially see that, and therefore, call for some sorts of arrests and executions of the banksters. However, I do NOT agree with that! Rather, what I recommend is much more comprehensive transformations of the public money supplies, in ways which would theoretically require that enough of the people understood and agreed with the imperatives that the debt controls be backed up by the death controls.
The on-coming social storms of the establish debt slavery systems driving their numbers to become debt insanities are surely headed towards their own mad self-destruction, which may, in extreme cases, result in some of the banksters being caught up in the overall, mostly out-of-control, death insanities. However, the longer term goals should be to thereby catalyze the development of different death controls, within the context of different artificial selection systems, that are better reconciled with the natural selection systems, which therefore appreciate how and why the previously existing human murder systems became based on the maximum possible deceits and treacheries, which then enabled the political economy to become based upon governments ENFORCING FRAUDS by the banksters.
In my view, advocating that the banksters should be arrested and executed is a grossly over-simplistic view of the deeper levels of the problems that we face, which would actually most probably make things get worse, faster, rather than better. After the development of globalized electronic frauds, backed by atomic bombs, it is theoretically imperative that political science go through profound series of paradigm shifts that surpass those which have already been achieved by physical science. Primarily that means a creative synthesis and reconciliation between the natural selection and artificial selection systems, which should be done through greater use of information, enabling higher consciousness regarding how and why we operate the human death control systems.
I believe that better death control systems are the ONLY genuinely better solutions to our real problems. However, it is precisely those kinds of crises conditions that MAY PERHAPS provide some opportunities to develop better death control systems, within the context of better integrated human, industrial and natural ecologies. Rather, that is practically guaranteed to become counter-productive, since such actions would necessarily be based upon mistaken ideas regarding the death controls that back up the debt controls.
We are going to see the death controls change (primarily through more out-of-control death insanities). However, changes in the death controls that were expressed as assassinations of the banksters would be quite stupid and misleading things to do. Rather, only from within revolutionary transformations of our basic understanding of human beings and civilizations as entropic pumps of energy flows, that manifested natural selection pressures through those human systems, would it become possible that we MAY PERHAPS develop better overall perceptions of the death control systems, to enable there to operate better death controls to back up better debt controls.
