Did Planned Parenthood Just "Hack" Its Own Website As A Publicity Stunt?

Tyler Durden's picture

Three days ago, when we reported on an alleged DDOS attack by a disgruntled, New York-hating hacker which took down and kept the website of NY Magazine offline for over half a day, we asked rhetorically if we won't see more such episodes used however as a publicity stunt with the explicit blessing of the "target":

" ...perhaps getting hacked is becoming a good marketing campaign: three weeks ago the market was shocked when the NYSE went offline for a record 4 hours, with speculation this may be due to a Chinese hack attack, before it was revealed that an incompetent software update was the culprit, and that virtually nobody trades on the NYSE anyway.

For today's struggling media, this may be an easy way to generate if not clicks (after all the site is down in the period in question), then at least publicity.  And how soon until we read about the first case of that "black hats" being quietly retained by the targets of their hacking exploits, to result in a win-win outcome for all involved?"

It appears we may have been not too far off the mark, as allegations surfaced overnight that a prominent entity may have fabricated just such a "hacking" of its own website for media publicity and unknown ulterior motives.

Only it was not a media company as we mused, but the pro-abortion group Planned Parenthood, which over the past several weeks has been embroiled in a scandal emanating from several videos showing executives discussing how the organization provides fetal organs to researchers, and describe the harvesting and sale of aborted fetal body parts, which two weeks ago led to a Congressional investigation. A fourth video in the series was released earlier today.

As Sean Davis of the Federalist reports, Planned Parenthood claims on several of its websites that the organization’s web operations have been attacked by "extremists"  but this so-called hacking has all the hallmarks of an orchestrated public relations stunt. A cursory check of the website moments ago shows it stating that "Our normal site is currently undergoing maintenance."

What makes this hack unique, however, is that "numerous people on Twitter pointed to evidence suggesting that this so-called hack wasn’t a hack at all."

The Federalist further notes that a review of the source code of the main page that appears at PlannedParenthood.org shows that as of 9:30 a.m. today, the page is listed as a “Campaign” and uses a specific template named “Site Down Tempalte” (the typo is theirs). The same page then directs visitors to the Facebook page of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the political fundraising arm of the nation’s largest abortion provider. The web page for PPAF–which can be accessed via both plannedparenthoodaction.org and ppaction.org–repeats the same hacking claims and contains the exact same source code and template used on the PlannedParenthood.org page."

And that’s where Planned Parenthood’s hacking facade begins to crumble. On the splash page declaring that the organization was hacked, visitors are asked “Why do you stand with Planned Parenthood” and invited to share their stories on a separate page housed at ppaction.org.

And wouldn’t you know it, that page functions perfectly. No sign of hacking. No sign of intrusion. Just a perfectly functional and secure web page that exists solely to build Planned Parenthood’s mailing list:

PP Definitely Not Hacked

Even though ppaction.org redirects to a page saying the site was hacked, the domain still house a perfectly functional URL and page that are being actively used to help build Planned Parenthood’s fundraising list. Coincidentally, this “hacking” happened just days after Planned Parenthood decided to hire a PR firm, SKDKnickerbocker, to help manage its response to the widening baby organ trafficking scandal.

The article's conclusion: "Planned Parenthood says it’s been hacked by “extremists,” but a review of the publicly available evidence suggests that the only things being hacked at Planned Parenthood right now are perfectly healthy and viable unborn babies."

If confirmed that the anti-abortion group did indeed sabotage their own website (which they have every right to since it is their property) to achieve a certain media goal, one should inquire how else is Planned Parenthood eager to score empathy points with the public, and what other shortcuts may the foundation with an annual budget of $1 billion as recently as 2009, be taking?

This public relations campaign by PP suits me fine, after all, I just put in a darknet order for fetal stem cells to cure my own cancer. I only did this because they accepted Bitcoin, after all, I wouldn't want to abuse the unborn by purchasing with debt.

Personally I think that Planned Parenthood is barbaric. But why is all the angst being focused on them on not the women who actually have abortions? I can't get a straight answer to that. Even one of the blond bimbos on Fox (code named Meg) said something the other night about the women "donating tissue" and went on to excoriate PP. Doesn't the responsibility ultimately rest with the women who drives herself to PP, walks through the door under her own power and "donates the tissue"?

Which is worse, the person who injects the heroin into his own veins, or the one who gives that person their first free dime bag and shows them how to shoot up?

Planned Parenthood takes advantage of the scared, poor, and desperate. There is nothing more despicable.

So personal responsibility doesn't count? My own daughter who is far from "scared, poor and desperate" had an abortion because being pregnant was going to be inconvenient to her career goals. There is a segment of women who have abortions for the reasons that you articulated but I don't think it's as big a percentage as you think.

It is interesting that you have got a number of down votes for what are reasonable questions.

However, in relation to your daughter you did not tell us at what stage she had her abortion and that makes a difference.

In the first few months we are not dealing with a sentient, feeling being, so I personally have no disagreement with abortion at that stage.  But in late stage pregnancy, which is the stage evoking all the outrage at what PP is doing, we are clearly dealing with a human being and at that point abortion is murder.  Not only is it murder, it is murder in the most cruel way.

If it just happened, how would they already know it was "extremists" doing it?

Because only extremists would dare oppose anything Planned Parenthood does?

This "attack" is as phony as a three dollar bill.  I hope everyone gets a GOOD LOOK at how these deeply indocrinated liberal/statists behave.  I mean just look at this bullshit.  There is NOTHING they won't say or do.  Including selling body parts of aborted fetuses for their own profit, despite being both reprehenisble and explicitly against federal law.

I don't care what your beliefs are about abortion.  This isn't about that.  This is about how people act when the deep state has protected them half of forever.  Peel that back and what do you have?  People like this.  Scumbags.  Liars.  Thieves.  Vultures.  If they were any worse they'd be bankers.

Nodebt: You have to admit that it IS pretty extreme if you do not want to chop up "delivered" babies for parts. Chopping them up and sorting through the parts is not extreme. Opposing it is extreme.

There are times to use the boilerplate terms like "extremist". Then there are other times it makes you look like complete helpless idiots when you resort to the standard template.

This kind of barbaric shit goes on all the time and I tell people it does. Few believe me. A video clip or other evidence comes out.... Suddenly more people are "outraged" about the things that have been going on for decades, millions of times over.

This is similar to cops / cop culture being expose for it's ultra-violence, extreme lies, and life-destroying actions they perpetrate against largely or entirely innocent people on a daily basis. 10 years ago most people, including those that inhabit the internet, would have been neutral or openly pro-cop, but after X-thousands of videos of cop abuse, suddenly more people are "outraged". Yes, it's good a few people are becoming more aware of their surroundings, but it just takes a mountain of evidence to avalanche on their face to believe it. I could have told people this kind of barbarism was going on at PP because I know the people that support it and work there, but at least someone got solid PROOF for the disbelieving "skeptics".

There are a lot of things like this going on behind closed doors, but wont be believed until it slaps them in the face. Here at ZH I like to think we are a little ahead of the curve. Many of us know what's coming.

When it becomes serious, you have to lie.

Seriously though, somewhere along the line it just became acceptable to lie and lie and then when you finally get caught to lie some more.  In every recent case it seems the liar just gets away with it.   In the past it sometimes happened because they were powerful or had connections.

Now, its more like no one gives a shit.  Liberals will give them a pass because they are "doing good work" and Conservatives will scream about baby jesus and "homo marriage" until the legitimate part of their outrage is drowned out and the tech websites will focus on how *kewl* it is to live in an age when such hijynx are possible.

This is the true moral degradation of our culture.  We deserve to live with the results.

Barbaric! But seriously, PP is as backwards and barbaric as the worst times in human history. Wrapping themselves in a skin of propaganda and lies does not change the fact they are literally ripping babies to pieces. Clearly ripping still-living babies limb from limb was not sufficiently perverse and murderous, they chose to sell their victim's corpses for money.

Anyone who believes "times have changed" in an substantial way regarding over-all human behavior on a large scale is sadly mistaken. If anything, humanity is worse now that it has ever been. We just have highly advanced propaganda, euphemisms, and circuitous logic to explain away the evils being perpetrated. Abortion, for the purposes of merely "not wanting that baby" is murder. If not, then let us also rationalise slavery, wars of aggression, genocide, and any act of violence or theft against innocent individuals as well.

The individual is the smallest minority, especially the defenseless young, and if we value our own Life and Liberty it is our duty to defend other's who or are threatened as well.  If we make exceptions (excuses) not to defend others who are in need of defense then it is we who are unworthy of defense when our Lives and Liberty are threatened.

Consdering that abortion makes up a small percentage of Planned Parenthood's services, this is also another anti-woman attack. Led by the anti-woman party, the GOP - aka the "Gentleman's Only Party". Or at least that's what it should be.

Birth control is free. In 21st centuray america, literally everyone knows how babies are made. That includes my 6 year old nephew, thanks to 'school'. There is no excuse for an unplanned pregnancy. Even in cases of rape, emergency contraception is available at any hospital.

For fuck's sake, how hard is it to take a pill or wear a condom? How does someone's rank stupidity absolve them of the crime of murdering their own child?

But...but....babies aren't people. Neither are blacks, indians, asians, women, elderly, or enemies of the king, etc. When people "rationalize" away a person's PERSONHOOD, they open the same up for THEMSELVES and everyone else. You cannot denegrate some people to less-than-human and not expect it to continue to all types of people. If people are to be condemened it should be based upon their actions, not their age, race, gender, etc.

Exactly! It is a continuum. If you can kill them at one stage it takes very little rationale to kill them at another. If worthless near birth, then worthless after birth.

Mengele and his pals are just part of the continuum. You don't see a Mengele on the opposite side of the abortion debate. You would find those like him on the same side. It is rationally consistent.

Consdering that abortion makes up a small percentage of Planned Parenthood's services, this is also another anti-woman attack.

Continue to smoke, Tsar.  It is you "leftists" that branded abortion as a woman's issue.  It's not.  It is about killing babies/denying life - mostly for convenience, veiled by the false rationale of 'cases of incest' and other ruses.

Tell us, o wise one, what percent of services should abortion make up?  How many abortions is the 'right' number.  Should your mother have aborted you?  Please explain in 300 words or less why that would have been nothing more than her exercising her 'right'.

Abortions. Is. What. Planned. Parenthood. Does.  Everything else is misdirection to imply nobility and balance.  To not see that is willful ignorance.  Which is exactly how abortion became the Law of the Land.

I wonder how many know that Norma McCorvey NEVER had an abortion, and is the most anti-abortion person who walks the planet.

Obama and Hillary are old abortion for gain proponents, just look at Benghazi for proof.

What is Obama's voting record on abortion??? from the Washington Post:

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/fact-checker/2008/02/obamas_voting_reco...

The Illinois branch of the Planned Parenthood organization has given him a "100 percent" pro-choice voting rating and depicted the present votes as part of a previously agreed strategy to provide political cover for other legislators.

Under the rules of the Illinois legislature, a present vote effectively functions as a no vote because only yes votes count toward passage of a bill. Legislators vote "present" rather than "no" for a variety of tactical reasons, including making it more difficult for their political opponents to use their votes against them in campaign advertisements.

"We worked on the 'present' vote strategy with Obama," said Pam Sutherland, chief lobbyist for the Illinois branch of Planned Parenthood, an abortion rights group. "He was willing to vote 'no', and was always going to be a 'no' vote for us."

Sutherland said Planned Parenthood calculated that a 'present' vote by Obama would encourage other senators to cast a similar vote, rather than voting for the legislation. "They were worried about direct mail pieces against them. The more senators voted present, the harder it was to mount an issues campaign against the senator."

Spending money on women's health initiatives that address the increase in our population by their giving birth seems like an important use of funds. Allowing them to have access to contraceptives through organizations like Planned Parenthood saves a lot of money in the long run, if it means mothers don't have to go on welfare to raise unwanted children.

In any case, the Supreme Court has never made a decision on whether health care is a right under the 14th Amendment, but many argue that denial of the right deprives the poor of equal protection under the law. Since the court has held that equal potection includes the right to procreate, use contraception, have an abortion and maintain bodily integrity, it could be argued that this implies a right to health care.

 Just sayin'.

There is probably no circumstance under which you would find the theft of public monies abhorrent but doesn't it give you pause in the least when you look back at what you just wrote?

You just advocated a position that is pretty damned close to "poor people shouldn't make babies" and since it's your gawd given duty as a prog to provide cradle to grave assistance to the poor, while expanding state "services" and bureaucracies and taxation in a straight line UPWARD FOREVER you will come to the conclusion sooner or later that the state has the power (and it will be quite legal) to forcibly sterilize the poor as a government cost savings in the future.

One step away from eugenics, Margaret Sanger would be impressed.

Except, of course, I also advocate for free prenatal care for women who want to have a baby, as part of what I would consider to be the right to health care which is assured by the 14th Amendment.  And I see the current system of health care, with the bloated, unnecessary and monopolistic insurance industry extracting a huge chunk of health care dollars and lack of negotiation with Big Pharma for lower drug costs, to be much worse than the "bureauocracy" you are so afraid of.  All one has to do is look at how much cheaper the rest of the world is able to provide universal health care to their citizens for the same outcomes to see the benefits.

Offering contraception allows women the ability to choose when they are ready to have children, which is a far cry from your morbid scenario.

As for the pro-life crowd, I respect the opinion of this Catholic nun over that of the majority of people who support it.  Maybe if they sold it this way, I would be a little more sympathetic. As it is, they sound like a bunch of hypocrites.

"I do not believe that just because you're opposed to abortion, that that makes you pro-life. In fact, I think in many cases, your morality is deeply lacking if all you want is a child born but not a child fed, not a child educated, not a child housed. And why would I think that you don't? Because you don't want any tax money to go there. That's not pro-life. That's pro-birth. We need a much broader conversation on what the morality of pro-life is."

Despite restraining order, anti-abortion group releases fourth Planned Parenthood video | CNN politics

(CNN)An anti-abortion group released its fourth video Thursday claiming that Planned Parenthood is selling fetal tissue.

Following a similar format to the previous three clips, the edited video shows actors posing as researchers speaking with the Dr. Savita Ginde, who was at least at one time medical director of a Planned Parenthood branch in Denver.

Like the previous videos, this one also came from the Center for Medical Progress, an anti-abortion group accusing Planned Parenthood of breaking the law by selling aborted fetal tissue. …

A court issued a temporary restraining order Tuesday preventing the Center for Medical Progress from releasing videos featuring leaders of a California company that provides fetal tissue to researchers.

David Daleiden, leader of the anti-abortion group, said Planned Parenthood is using the courts to hide illegal activity.

http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/30/politics/planned-parenthood-fourth-video/

NOTE:

WASHINGTON — David Daleiden, founder of the Center For Medical Progress (CMP), told conservative talk radio host Sean Hannity Tuesday there are nine more sting-operation videos that reveal Planned Parenthood’s operations.

“We have close to 300 hours total of undercover video that was gathered during a 30 month long in depth investigative journalism study of how Planned Parenthood sells the body parts of the babies they abort,” Daleiden said, noting that each highlight video released will have the full footage posted on their website without any edits.

Abortion is legal.  Get over it.  No matter how the bible thumpers feel, that won't change.  Shutting down Planned Parenthood funding will just make it harder for poor women to get one, and maybe some will resort to more barbaric methods of doing it.

Harvesting fetal tissue from abortions to contribute to research is also legal.  There is no evidence that Planned Parenthood is "profiting" from it.  To defend themselves, they have requested that the National Institute of Health convene a panel of independent experts to study the issues.

"In the late 1980s, an NIH panel studying fetal tissue transplants for studying Parkinson's diseases said the research was acceptable, saying such experiments were promising and did not influence women's decisions to have abortions. It recommended guidelines aimed at preventing commercial sales of fetal tissue and separating the decisions about having an abortion and donating the organs."

Logical Fallacies:

1. Strawman: Misrepresenting someone's argument to make it easier to attack.

2. Black-or-White: Where two alternative states are presented as the only possibilities, when in fact more possibilities exist.

3. Ad Hominem: Attacking your opponent's character or personal traits in an attempt to undermine their argument.

4. Bandwagon: Appealing to popularity or the fact that many people do something as an attempted for of validation.

5. Appeal to Authority: Saying that because authority thinks something, it must be true.

6. Tu Quoque: Avoiding having to engage with criticism by turning it back on the accuser - answering criticism with criticism.

Your argument has the same dishonesty as those who refer to illegal aliens as immigrants, hiding the fact that most of those opposed to illegal aliens are not opposed to controlled immigration of people who can add value to the US.

The primary argument about PP and abortion is actually about late term abortion, which PP wants because that gives it the well formed baby parts to sell.  But you cloak it in this BS about abortion as a whole and "a woman's right to choose".  You provide no logic as to why a woman has "a right" to murder her baby before it is born but not to do so afterwards.  Or perhaps you support the latter as well.

Whether anyone thinks morning after pills are moral or not is a great red herring since the public debate is not about what people think is moral but about what is legal or should be legal and while there has been plenty of outcry to stop murdering late term babies in the womb there has been no outcry to stop morning after pills.

I don't believe in late term abortions, nor do I believe life begins at conception.  There are very few abortions performed on viable fetuses, after the 20th week, which I believe is too late to have one.  If women were given the resources to have early abortions and easy access to morning after pills, there would probably be even fewer.

BTW, only 3% of Planned Parenthood's funding goes towards abortions.  If the 35% that goes towards contraception was discontinued, what effect do you think that would have on unwanted pregnancies? More useless eaters, eh? Something else to complain about and defund support for.

The majority is willing to vote for candidates in favor of keeping abortion legal, and we live in a democracy.  People didn't get to vote for or against candidates whose platforms supported the examples you give (other than abolitionists voting for candidates that supported the 13th Amendment, at which point they DID get over it because they were successful).

Nor did a Supreme Court find those issues to be constitutional when challenged, as was Roe v Wade,  as a right to privacy under the due process law of the 14th Amendment.

Please cite anything in comparable legal systems that have challenged your examples. I don't think the serfs had voting rights or a Consitution and nobody got to vote Hitler out of office once he made himself dictator. We didn't have a constitution in 1776, but we do now.  Police brutality is an issue that is getting a lot of attention these days; more are getting charged and indicted and politicians are starting to speak up against it, so the legal system is paying attention.

So, basically, NONE of your examples are pertinent. Why bother going on if you can't come up with anything relevant?  You can call me names, but that doesn't make your argument valid. Regardless of your disliking the outcomes of our legal system, it is the system we live with.

How then shall we llive?

What you are really saying is that if the Law of the Land is entirely manmade, without God, then there is no moral compass to determine right from wrong. Like the U.S.S.R., the State will decide. And you might have noticed that like the Soviets, the American State is no longer the people.

Frederic Bastiat, author of “The Law,” who did most of his writing in 1847 and 1848 when France was rapidly turning to complete godless socialism which “must inevitably degenerate into communism,” understood that liberty exists only in a government that recognizes that “life is a gift from God,” where “the inventions of men are most nearly in harmony with the laws of God” :

“God has given to men all that is necessary for them to accomplish their destinies. He has provided a social form as well as a human form. And these social organs of persons are so constituted that they will develop themselves harmoniously in the clean air of liberty. Away, then, with quacks and organizers! A way with their rings, chains, hooks, and pincers! Away with their artificial systems! Away with the whims of governmental administrators, their socialized projects, their centralization, their tariffs, their government schools, their state religions, their free credit, their bank monopolies, their regulations, their restrictions, their equalization by taxation, and their pious moralizations!

“And now that the legislators and do-gooders have so futilely inflicted so many systems upon society, may they finally end where they should have begun: May they reject all systems, and try liberty; for liberty is an acknowledgment of faith in God and His works.”

I have a good moral compass, it allows me to have enough compassion for those who struggle to make ends meet that I want them to have the basic neccesities to get by, like medical care, food, cheap housing and a chance to get an education to lift themselves out of their basic level of subsistence if they wish.

What I don't have compassion for is moralists who try to tell others what they can do with their bodies, be it self medication or abortion.

The rest of the Bastiat gives "men" too much credit and takes no account of greed and avarice.  The powerful will dominate the rest if given the chance, and throw under the bus anybody who gets in their way.  Which is why we need laws to keep order.  Like Roe v Wade.

Your moral compass is just some arbitrary culture that was tatooed into your brain as a toddler, without your consent.

And if morality isnt culture, then it is innate and GENETIC.

I read the law, by bastiat, and already forgot most of it.

Up to this day i have yet to see a non circular definition of what "good" or "evil" are. Even the golden rule "do unto others as they would do unto you" seems arbitrary.
