Here's Why Apple Just Entered A Correction

Tyler Durden's picture

Apple is down 12% from exuberant earnings highds just a few days ago and has broken below a crucial technical support level at its 200-day moving average (something it has not done in over 2 years). While the parade of bullish analysts and fan boys continues to have faith that Apple TV, iCar, or iWatch will bring about the next leg of the 'no brainer' rally to trillion-dollar market cap levels, perhaps, just perhaps, there is a crack in the armor of the "as goes Apple so goes America" company. As Engadget reports, Apple has slipped to third place in China -behind Xiamoi and fast-growing rival Huawei...

As Engadget reports,

It looks like Apple's time at the top of China's smartphone heap was short-lived. Researchers at Canalys estimate that local brand Xiaomi has once again become the country's smartphone market share leader, snagging 15.9 percent of shipments during the second quarter of the year. In fact, Apple is down to third place -- one of Xiaomi's fastest-growing rivals, Huawei, claimed the runner-up spot with 15.7 percent. Samsung and Vivo rounded out the top five.

It's not certain what tipped the balance for Xiaomi, although big phones like the Mi Note (shown above) likely helped. That leadership might not survive for much longer, however. As IDC warned earlier, the days of a rapidly expanding Chinese phone market appear to be over. Vendors are mostly trying to poach customers from each other, rather than enticing first-timers who are finally well-off enough to buy a smartphone. In a volatile climate like that, it might only take one hit phone (or a spectacular flop) to shake things up.

Apple's downfall will NOT pre-date global market crash, the company sells a lot, regardless of the de-throning in China.

"...with open source Mozilla OS". So What? Android is also open source, and that has had vulnerabilities. OpenSSL is open source, and that has had vulnerabilities.

What makes you think Mozila OS won't have vulnerabilities? Remember, it's not just the OS that can have holes in it, but also the apps that run on these OSes.

Almost everything written for CPUs goes through libraries. C, C++, C#, every language I've ever learned employes libraries. Except assembler, and that varies by CPU and can be a real pain. The only stuff I ever truly trusted was code I wrote myself in assembler, and even then I had no control over the OS and firmware. The problem I always had, assembler or other language, was that the computers tend to do what I tell them to do, which isn't always what I actually want them to do.

Chinese are increasingly blaming the US for the crash in its stock market.  That does not bode well for sales of iPhones.

US hedge fund Citadel banned from share trading on Shenzhen account

The order to bar the Citadel account was given by the Shenzhen stock exchange.

The China Securities Regulatory Commission has said "coordinated stock dumping" and "selling-off of heavily weighted stocks" as well as automated, algorithm-driven trading caused market turbulence. Citadel is being probed for "spoofing", a practice that involves placing and then cancelling orders, distorting prices in the process

Same here. No fan but they produce a product. This is coming from someone who doesn't buy a lot of tech but does love looking at it. Apple used products hold value well. I have never seen a fire sale on apple products. Sure someone may be able to snag the new iphone for free but it is coming with an overpriced 2 year contract from ATT.

Pretty sure you've either never worked with Apple products, or you're an anti-Apple fanboy.

I used pcs for 20 years and was happy enough, but I got a Macbook Pro and it blew away anything I had ever used before.

2 years after the warranty was out I had an issue with the motherboard. Apple replaced it free of charge.

Now the laptop is 8 years old and I can still get around $700 for it.

You might not like Apple for whatever reason, but their products (and customer service) are awesome.

Only a true fanboy would pay $700 for an 8-yr old mac that is stuck with an OS from 2012.  Check craigslist and find lots of macbooks only 2-4 yrs old selling for that much.

You mean someone is allowed to sell a phone for less than 40% gross margin.....?

Shame Samsung imploded, by dumping SD cards, and removable batteries, and copying apple, they made a decent device at one point.  Now there is no serious competition for Apple in the US market.

Yeah, I don't know wtf Samsung was thinking when they did that. The fact that you could ad as much storage as you wanted and didn't have to trek to a fucking crapple store for a battery change was a big selling point.

Indeed, one has to go beyond one dimensional thinking, which is most difficult for some. The Bhagavad Gita As It Is gives the same info on fruitive activities and the apple is eaten WW. NY happens to be the twin capital of the world of fruitive activities. So perhaps God leaves some intelligence for the individual to sort it all out within the TIME he has available because DEATH is very certain in the material world. Of course, many are simply too intoxicated by fruitive activities just to understand that hard, sobering fact.

No idea whether its a buy or sell here, but the difference is that AAPL actually isn't an expensive stock.  It doesn't trade at these stupid 20x multiples, and has cash to support it should they want to (which if it goes another 10% I'd guess they do).  Their margins are insane, but their stock price doesn't trade that way imo.  40% margins and 13x p/e ... not many stocks out there with that pair of numbers (though a lot that are 25x p/e and 10% margins!)

the problem with aapl stock price won't be fundamentals as those don't apply anywhere anymore. the problem will be that so many funds are tied up in the behemoth that if anyone needs to raise cash they will necessarily have to sell some of their crAAPL. of course crAAPL has a huge amount of holdings with which to defend but there again they would have to sell something (or borrow) to fund moar buybacks.

Apple was ground breaking in the making of machines designed for end users, not techie nerds who didn't mind spending hours each day trying to get them to work (MSFT). But now with Gay Timmy at the helm, there is no vision and they seemed to have hired MSFT engineers as each one of their upgrades takes weeks of debugging to get to work. They refuse to release sales numbers on the gay iFag_Watch as they probably sold less than 1000 of them. Done. Stick fork in rotten apple.

Third place how?  In unit sales?  If so who gives a f*&%?  It gets really tiring hearing the Android fanboys blather on about unit sales when Apple takes the lion's share of PROFITS.  Profit matters more than market share to me as an investor.

Xiamoi can make a trillion free knockoff pieces of shit and I woudn't buy a single share based on the fact that they made a trillion pieces of shit.  I want to own the company with fat margins and impressive profitability.
