Russia Ready To Send Paratroopers To Syria

Tyler Durden's picture

As Syria’s civil war enters its fourth year, it’s become something of an open secret that ISIS, for all their bluster and Hollywood-level video editing capabilities, are at best an unhappy side effect of efforts to train and arm the Syrian resistance and at worst, are a "strategic asset" funded and supported by coalition governments.

In other words, there is indeed a geopolitical chess match going on here that will have far-reaching consequences when the blood and dust settle, but it has nothing to do with ISIS’ far-fetched quest to establish a Medieval caliphate and everything to do with installing a government in Syria that will be more friendly to the interests of the West and its Middle Eastern allies.

ISIS will remain in play as long as they are necessary, but once the time comes for the US to clean up the mess left by Syria’s three-front war once and for all, that will be all she wrote for this particular CIA asset. Until then, everyone apparently gets to use Islamic State as an excuse to pursue their own political agenda, as evidenced by Turkey’s new war on "terrorists." Not wanting to miss an opportunity to justify what would otherwise be a rather brash declaration, Russia is reportedly ready to send in the paratroopers should Syria request Moscow’s help in battling terrorist elements. Here’s more via Tass:

The Russian Airborne Troops are ready to assist Syria in countering terrorists, if such a task is set by Russia’s leaders, commander of the Airborne Troops Colonel-General Vladimir Shamanov told reporters on Tuesday.

(USSR paratroopers ca. 1975)

"Of course we will execute the decisions set forth by the country’s leadership, if there is a task at hand," Shamanov said, in response to a Syrian reporter’s question about the readiness of the Russian Airborne Troops to render assistance to Syria’s government in its battle against terrorism.

Shamanov noted that Russia and Syria have "long-term good relations." "Many Syrian experts, including military, received education in the Soviet Union and in Russia," Shamanov added.

In other words, two (or three, or four) can play at the "use ISIS as an excuse to go to war with our real enemies" game and just like the US can send in trainers and "forward spotters" to protect its interests in Iraq, so too can Russia send in a few airborne troops to protect its interests in Damascus.

It’s now only a question of political will and as we’ve outlined on a few occasions recently, it’s not entirely clear how much longer Vladimir Putin is willing to support Bashar al-Assad in the face of the debilitating, Saudi-engineered slump in crude prices and the biting economic sanctions imposed on the Kremlin by Europe.

"...but it has nothing to do with ISIS’ far-fetched quest to establish a Medieval caliphate and everything to do with installing a government in Syria that will be more friendly to the interests of the West and its Middle Eastern allies."

"The 'interests of the West and its Middle Eastern allies"...?  (plural...?)

I think the key 'interests' of the West - specifically as it pertains to foreign policy towards the middle east, is a fairly singular proposition, that centers around a small strip of land on the eastern Mediterranean, with quite an influence in DC and $elsewhere.

Seriously, Dutch, you think anybody is standing on land that didn't at one time belong to somebody else?

If they are, it's because they beat the hell out of the guys who tried to take it away. Or take it back.

The winners get the good houses and the losers get the ratty old tents on the roadside.

Might not be nice (for the tent dwellers) but you and me are sitting in some pretty nice houses right about now thanks to the fierceness of our ancestors.

I doubt that Russia will be putting boots on the ground in Syria, however they are fully capable of doing so. They can drop a village from the sky, tanks, APC artillery, large missile launches AA or G2G plus all logistical support like temporary barracks, electrical, water generators etc.

Syrian army right now is the most trained in the world. Just give them newer weapons and they can defeat anyone who attacks them even Turks. Syrian government  is fighting  with obsolete equipment against American weapons used by ISIS and Al Nusra.

This is latest clip from battle of Jobar that lasts already about two years now.

Our policy is to wage war on state-sponsored terrorism.  We will need to attack those who organize, assist and supply terrorists like ISIS / ISIL.  Therefore, we must wage war on the US, Turkey and Israel.  Hmmm...  I suspect we will settle for war against Israel.

I also suspect Russia will not help Syria.  Damascus will fall.  Iran will be linked with Turkey, north African countries and the new islamic mahdi armies of Iraq, Syria, and what was Saudi.

Russia may just throw some rags into this slaughterhouse.  While knives are flying and possible outcomes are widespread, they won't want to lock themselves into a corner.

"it could be essentially agitprop"      It could also be a warning from Putin to Obama:  "You do not own the skies."

The skies could get a little crowded over Syria this year.  American planes bombing ISIS and maybe Assad, Russian planes dropping parachutists over ISIS and maybe the Damascus airport (just to protect it, ya unnerstand), and Turkish planes bombing the cr** out of the PKK and possibly Assad.  They all better be careful or they will be playing bumper cars up there.

Do the Saudis, Qataris, and Iranians also have their jets in Syria?

The US has been arming and supporting takfiri death squads and now, without Syrian permission, is in Syria claiming to fight those terrorists.

No declaration of war, the American people dont want US troops involved but they are already there, and in Turkey and Jordan, and of course Ukraine.

None of it is for democracy or freedom or the people of Syria.

It is to weaken Iran and Syria, smash Israel's regional economic and military rivals, and ultimately to control all the oil fields and stop any Iranian {or Russian} pipelines while in the longer run ensuring Israel can steal Lebanon and Palestine and Syrian gas and sell it to Europe.

Too bad the US military lacks both the brains and balls to revolt.

http://tass.ru/en/world/812409

http://www.strategic-culture.org/news/2015/08/03/us-propaganda-its-not-j...
U.S. Propaganda: It’s Not Just False but Absurd

It’s so ridiculous, no intelligent and informed person would give it any serious consideration whatsoever. It insults the public’s intelligence.

Here’s a typical example of the ridiculousness of U.S. propaganda: On July 16th, the U.S. State Department issued a «Ukraine Travel Warning». It says:

«The Department of State warns U.S. citizens to defer all travel to Crimea and the eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, and recommends those U.S. citizens currently living in or visiting these regions to depart...

Russia-backed separatists continue to control areas in the Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts. Despite the signing of a ceasefire agreement by representatives of Ukraine, Russia and the OSCE, violent clashes between combined Russian separatist forces and Ukrainian forces continue in parts of the eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, resulting in thousands of injuries and deaths. The ceasefire agreement established a de facto dividing line between Ukrainian government-controlled and separatist-held areas of Ukraine, with numerous checkpoints controlled by government and separatist forces. Individuals, including U.S. citizens, have been threatened, detained or kidnapped for hours or days after being stopped at separatist checkpoints...

The Department of State also warns U.S. citizens to defer all travel to the Crimean Peninsula, which is occupied by Russia. The Russian Federation is likely to take further actions in Crimea throughout the remainder of 2015 consistent with its attempted unlawful annexation and occupation of this part of Ukraine. The international community, including the United States and Ukraine, does not recognize this purported annexation. The Russian Federation maintains an extensive military presence in Crimea and along the border of eastern Ukraine...»

Prior to the U.S. overthrow of the democratically elected President of Ukraine in February 2014, there was peace throughout Ukraine. Obama (his Administration, as shown in that video) replaced the existing Ukrainian President, Viktor Yanukovych, who, like all of his predecessors, was corrupt; and the U.S. propaganda-machine publicized his corruption, while virtually ignoring the fact of corruption’s normalcy in at least post-Soviet Ukraine (corruption that had been greatly encouraged by the U.S.). The U.S. didn’t replace him because he was corrupt. The U.S. replaced him because he supported a non-aligned Ukraine: neither a stooge to the U.S., nor to Russia. Barack Obama repeatedly asserts that — as he phrased it to West Point cadets on 28 May 2014 — «The United States is and remains the one indispensable nation. [So: all other nations are ‘dispensable.’] That has been true for the century passed [he misspelled ‘past’] and it will be true for the century to come». Adolf Hitler and his Nazis said it for their country more succinctly: «Deutschland über alles». Except that Hitler proclaimed that his would be a «Thousand-Year Reich», not merely «for the century to come».

The U.S. began its overthrow-operation early in 2013. At that time, Yanukovych was still considering offers for Ukraine to join the U.S.-backed European Union, or else to join the Russia-backed Eurasian Economic Community. The EU is much larger, but Ukraine’s centuries-long former association with, and economic extensions from (including favored-nation trading status with) Russia, would have been very costly for Ukraine to sever. Ukraine’s economy had long been based far more on trade with Russia than on with trade with the rest of Europe.

According to MIT, the «Top 5 export destinations» from Ukraine were: Russia (24%), Egypt (6.5%), Turkey (5.2%), Italy (3.8%), and Kazakhstan (3.5%). The «Top 5 import origins» into Ukraine were: Russia (31%), China (9.0%), Germany (8.2%), Belarus (6.4%), and Poland (5.0%).

On 19 November 2013, Yanukovych met with the European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy. The economists at the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences had recently delivered their report to Yanukovych, which concluded that the net loss from joining the EU would be $160 billion. Yanukovych asked the Commissioner, «If we sign, will you help us,» so that Ukraine wouldn’t bear the entirety of this enormous cost. The Commissioner said, «Sorry», no. (The Commissioner suggested that Ukraine might borrow the money from the IMF — which would be the kind of national suicide that actually occurred after the U.S. overthrew Yanukovych.) The next day, Yanukovych announced that he was turning down the EU’s offer. Then, according to wikipedia, the «Maidan» demonstrations to oust Yanukovych from power started on 21 November 2013. Brandon Turbeville has described the 40-year-long development of the technology that the CIA and State Department built for that overthrow.

But, in fact, as I documented back in February, «The Entire Case for Sanctions Against Russia Is Pure Lies». The whole case is fraudulent.

So: the U.S. State Department rejects the legitimacy of the overwhelming, and the repeatedly polling-confirmed, desire of the Crimean people to cease being Ukrainian (which they had been only from 1954 to 2014), even though this same U.S. State Department accepts the legitimacy of the Scottish people to determine whether or not to continue being British (which they have been ever since 1707). The sovereign democratic right of Crimeans is denied, while the sovereign democratic right of the Scotts is affirmed. One needs to be a sucker to believe that, but it’s the U.S. Government’s official line.

As for the residents of Donbass («Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts»), Obama needs to get rid of them, because they had voted over 90% for the man he overthrew. If they stay alive and within Ukraine, then the regime that Obama installed will get voted out of office.

In fact, that’s the reason why Russia’s leader, Vladimir Putin, has insisted that they remain within Ukraine — so that they will vote out of office the anti-Russian racist fascists that Obama installed, next door to Russia, in Ukraine. That’s as if during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, the dictator of the Soviet Union, Nikita Khruschev, had grabbed control over not only Cuba but even over Mexico right on America’s border. Would the United States have tolerated that, then? So, Putin doesn’t tolerate this, now.

The irony is that it’s Putin who wants the «pro-Russian rebels» to remain as part of Ukraine; and it’s Obama who wants them not to be — even while he claims that Putin does, and asserts that Putin is the aggressor.

For example, on 3 September 2014, Obama said:

«Fifth - we must continue to stand united against Russia’s aggression in Ukraine. (Applause.) Keep in mind that, repeatedly, President Putin has ignored the opportunity to resolve the crisis in Ukraine diplomatically. The United States, the European Union, our partners around the world have all said we prefer a diplomatic solution. But in light of Russia’s unwillingness to seize that opportunity, we have come together to impose major sanctions on Russia for its actions».

A more devilishly lying country than the United States of today is hard to imagine. It’s even a dictatorship: its government represents not the public (as its Founders had intended) but its aristocracy (which those Founders had tried to overthrow — and did overthrow, in their own era).

The U.S. Government even has the brazen audacity to brag about its success at fooling the global publics.

In fact, as I headlined on 7 October 2014, «Leading German Journalist Admits CIA ‘Bribed’ Him and Other Leaders of the Western ‘Press’».

The U.S. Government holds the public everywhere in contempt.

7. Imports of Latvian sprats - banned

Oopsies.

http://www.gorod.lv/novosti/256586-zapret-na-eksport-Ethereum-katastrofa

From the article, via google translate:

However, the Latvian sprats export ban would be disastrous. According to experts, the ban on the import of Latvian sprats will finish the final fish-processing industry. [...] Population losing their jobs and prospects at least as it survived in their native land, is one option - to pack your bags. New blow to the fish-processing industry economy of Latvia will be the catalyst for an already disastrous flight of the population from the country. [...] The course on the destruction of the national economy continues. A related emigration of the population has taken such alarming proportions that the agenda is already the question of preservation of Latvia as a state. While our politicians scare people mythical threats to invade invaders from the East, the main threat for Latvia has been and remains a mass exodus from the country.

Good question. The same hypothetical question about Russia needs to be asked, what if Russians on the ground in Syria put a S400 up the sphincter of a B1 or F22, would Emperor Obummer and MIC hold it against them? I doubt either side would back down. Mistakes are inevitable, the historians and arm chair generals love to call it 'the fog of war' after the fact when shit happens.

Another hypothetical question. What gives the US the right to send a B1 or a F22 into the sovereign airspace of Syria "UNINVITED" to bomb ISIS ( ALLEGEDLY) who have been armed, trained and financially backed by the US. Does this not give Syria the right to fly Migs into US airspace uninvited and target ISIS positions i e Langley, bearing in mind that Syria's case is more justifiable as they are fighting a war with the US backed terrorists on three or more fronts in Syria?

Today Syria's FM is meeting in Tehran with Iranian and Russian counterparts and the meeting is not about Assad surrendering or going into exile. It appears things are moving quickly after Obummer made the unofficial/official Presidential decree/ declaration of war on Syria yesterday. The UK is going to be late to the game with the need for a parliamentary vote in support of the US actions directed at the Syrian government, that vote is scheduled in a few weeks from today. The US/Russian proxy wars are obviously heating up, it should not surprise anyone if Russia puts boots on the ground in Syria to defend Damascus and its interests. Also, It should be expected that Iran and China will support the Assad government. I don't expect Assad to give up or chose exile as our propaganda has been suggesting.

This man was behind shooting down MH17. Igor Kolomoisky; born February 13, 1963) is a Ukrainian-Cypriot-Israeli business oligarch of Jewish descent and the former Governor of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.[10]

A multibillionaire, Kolomoyskyi is rated as the second or third richest person in Ukraine (after Rinat Akhmetov and/or Viktor Pinchuk) since 2006.[11][12] and 377th richest person in the world by the Forbes (as of 2011).[9] In March 2015 The Economist listed his net worth as $1.36 billion.[13] Kolomoyskyi is the leading partner of the Privat Group and a de facto chairman of the FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.[14] …

Kolomoyskyi is the co-founder of the PrivatBank (and its informal Privat Group, respectively) and was appointed Chairman of its Board of Directors in 1997.[5][14] Other fields of activity include: ferroalloys, finance, oil products, mass media,[15] metal and petroleum industries (also in Russia and Romania).[16]

Kolomoysky has a triple Ukrainian-Israeli-Cyprus citizenship because dual citizenship is not recognized by Ukraine.[17][18] Kolomoyskyi explained that: "The constitution prohibits double citizenship but triple citizenship is not forbidden."[19] …

Part of his vast business empire is Burisma Holdings Ldt, Ukraine’s largest private gas firm. Shortly after Russia annexed Crimea, while U. S. Vice-President Joe Biden was engaged in diplomatic talks with Ukraine, Burisma announced that Hunter Biden joined the board of the company.[22]…

In April 2014 Kolomoyskyi offered a bounty for the capture of Russian-backed militants and incentives for the turning in of weapons.[35] He also is believed to have spent $10 million to create the Dnipro Battalion,[34][36] and also funds the Aidar, Azov, Dnepr 1, Dnepr 2, and Donbas volunteer battalions.[37]

Russia is asking for Kolomoyskyi to be put on Interpol's wanted list.[38] On 2 July 2014 a Russian District Court authorized his arrest in absentia for "organizing the killing of civilians".[39]

..together with fellow Ukrainian oligarch Vadim Rabinovich, [he] founded the European Jewish Union.[47]

So Obama announces that the the coalition forces will protect the moderate Syrian rebels from the Syrian Army.

So Russia announces it will send paratroopers to assist the Syrian government battle terrorists.

As the coalition attacks against ISIS have been air strikes, one assumes the defense of the moderate rebels will be the same.

So should we assume that the Russian paratroopers will bring S-400 with them and shoot down jets overflying Syria without Damascus' permission?

And should we assume that the coalition will put boots on the ground to halt the naked aggression of the Russo-Syrian forces?

Both he and his wife have stated in the past that they will not leave and that if the country goes down they will go with it.   They actually love their country unlike the traitorous pieces of shit that run this place.  They may evacuate their kids I imagine.  Where could they run to Iran?  We'll probably be there next.

Have you guys seen his wife? https://duckduckgo.com/?q=asma+assad+and+wife&ia=videos&iai=a-VVleh2Gn8

This is leaked rhetoric in response to Obama's leaked rhetoric that the U.S. will start bombing 'targets' in Syria. I would love to see what a trained force of well equipped soldiers can do to turban heads riding in the back of a pickup truck while waving black flags.

ISIS is CIA/Mossad operation.  If the USA wanted to really defeat ISIS they would have done so long ago.  I mean they parade around in broad daylight in their new Toyotas wearing WHITE SHOES (so US C-130' know where to airdrop weapons to them).

USA does NOT want to defeat ISIS. Its all pure theatre.

Peskov denied that they would send troops to Syria:

http://sputniknews.com/world/20150804/1025393998.html

But

http://tass.ru/en/russia/812583

He states that it isn't the agenda at the moment to send warplanes to Syria.

He also states that Assad never did ask for help.  So he could be hinting at the idea that Assad needs to officially ask for help before Russia considers it.

Tis strange, that the moar this 'ISIS' fights for the Levants' Caliphate' {Lebanon/ Syria and Iraq} post WWI demarcated by the British and French,... in what was called the biggest-land-grab in ME history.

Remember the Alamo in America is anathem to the mexicans of today,... as was the Sykes-Picot Agreement in 1916 is to the Arabs/Persians!

Sadly, religion has been hijaked by the USSA's CIA as they so aptly had shown during the Afghan-Russo War during 1979-1989. Having turned the people into fanatical jihadist fighting for Islam. The Afghans wanted nothing to do with the MB's SHARIA LAW,period! They hated the arab wahhabi's and their religious cult/ilk-- that was being stuffed down their throat by Pakistans' ISI, and the USSA backed CIA/State Dept., via Saudi's GID$$$!

What does it matter?

Today, instead of recruiting converts and radical jihadist, ISIS is self-promoting Atheism throughout the ME youth? Indeed, unbeknownst to leaders that such a blasphemous transition could manifest itself, is as always beyond their closed minds! Alas think? When the indigenous people doing the suffering find life moar valuable than Islam?!?

Earlier this year I saw an interview with him in Russian or Ukrainian with english sub-titles.

In talking about the downing of MH17, the translation of what Kolomoyskyi said was: "We shot down the wrong plane."

Which meant to me that they thought Putin was on that plane.

Finally something, still taking so long damn it. He should realize that without allies he too will be weaker and must act hardball like last time when he sent whole navy to region. You cant act soft with criminals such as US, Saudi or Israel or you will lose. Likewise, Assad should use chems if he still have some. Germans were massacred after they surrendered, same Libya. You better die in fight and hit them as hard as you can by any means, or else that civilian massacre that will follow is on your hands as well.

If I remember right Russia vetoed the Syria no fly zones and "humanitarian corridors".  If not, Syria would have been toast right there.  What kind of clown car world do we live in where we bludgeon our way around the planet telling people that they can't fly over their own country and then demand entry and supply routes?  Completely insane.
