"Orwellian" FBI Says Citizens Should Have No Secrets That The Government Can't Access

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by J.D. Heyes via NaturalNews.com,

The police and surveillance state predicted in the forward-looking 1940s classic “1984” by George Orwell, has slowly, but steadily, come to fruition. However, like a frog sitting idly in a pan of steadily-warming water, too many Americans still seem unaware that the slow boil of big government is killing their constitutional liberties.

The latest sign of this stealth takeover of civil rights and freedom was epitomized in recent Senate testimony by FBI Director James Comey, who voiced his objections to civilian use of encryption to protect personal data – information the government has no automatic right to obtain.

As reported by The New American, Comey testified that he believes the government’s spy and law enforcement agencies should have unfettered access to everything Americans may store or send in electronic format: On computer hard drives, in so-called i-clouds, in email and in text messaging – for our own safety and protection. Like many in government today, Comey believes that national security is more important than constitutional privacy protections or, apparently, due process. After all, aren’t criminals the only ones who really have anything to hide?

In testimony before a hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee entitled “Going Dark: Encryption, Technology, and the Balance Between Public Safety and Privacy” Comey said that in order to stay one step ahead of terrorists, as well as international and domestic criminals, Uncle Sam’s various spy and law enforcement agencies should have access to available technology used to de-encrypt protected data. Also, he believes the government should be the final arbiter deciding when decryption is necessary.

What could go wrong there?

Government, at all levels, is responsible

During the hearing, TNA reported, technology experts warned the panel that giving the FBI limitless access to the personal electronic data of Americans would open it up to exploitation by “bad actors.” But Comey was having none of that.

“It is clear that governments across the world, including those of our closest allies, recognize the serious public safety risks if criminals can plan and undertake illegal acts without fear of detection,” he told the committee.

“Are we comfortable with technical design decisions that result in barriers to obtaining evidence of a crime?”

So, in essence, Comey like many before him, especially since the global war on terror was launched – believes that, in the name of national security Americans ought to give up more of their individual and constitutional rights because that’s the only way we can be adequately protected.

Perhaps realizing that his Senate hearing testimony was public, Comey gave the Constitution a passing glance, noting that the government should respect the “requirements and safeguards of the laws” and the country’s founding document. However, as Americans now know, spy agencies during the past two presidential administrations have been tasked increasingly with conducting warrantless, unchecked surveillance of Americans’ electronic data and communications.

But all of this is not on men like Comey and Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. Congress bears its share of responsibility, too.

This is the way it is – shut up and take it

When such activities of the National Security Agency were exposed in 2013 by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, many in the media and among the American electorate were quick to blame the agency, as if it was somehow acting out of rogue instinct.

The reality is, however, that the agency is tasked to perform its duties either by statutory law (think the USA Patriot Act) or by presidential directive (think Bush’s order after 9/11 to conduct warrantless surveillance).

“We are not asking to expand the government’s surveillance authority, but rather we are asking to ensure that we can continue to obtain electronic information and evidence pursuant to the legal authority that Congress has provided to us to keep America safe,” Comey said during the Senate hearing.

What does all this mean? It simply means that at every level, government considers its own citizens hostile.

Oh, and there’s nothing we can do about it.

The government is being run like any corporation.

The burden is on you to justify your job, or existence.

I thought you would have figured that out by now.

What you say, I believe, will happen and a lot of what you say is happening. But, on the other hand, I am not going through this persecution YET. And I emphasis, yet. I know many good cops, and government workers that are as upset about gov. intrusion as you and I, yet most people in general are sorely in the dark about what is happening in this country and will be astonished when the axe falls. TPTB, (Satanic), are experts in deception. I really believe God Almighty is what most people do not want to bow down to, but is our only answer. We are our own gods, (entitlement), and we will reap what we sow.

You miss what was most threatening in the Soviet regime, those citizens who sought to prove their socialism and loyalty to the Party were willing to sell out anyone - their friends, their spouse, their family. Rather than direct spying it was a culture of collaboration and informing that could be the greatest threat. As in some of the scenes in Life and Fate, one could not know if a friend or acquaintance was a government spy who would turn a simple joke into a kulak conspiracy.

We are very close to this now in USNATO, in some ways it is worse. Now it is not necessary to be informed on to the bureaucracy as so many individuals act with the logic of the bureaucracy themselves. A dangerous opinion or thought can result in your automatic exile. You are not brought to trial to be asked if you are now or ever been a member of the communist party. Instead your thoughts are analysed to see if you are Progressive enough, Democratic enough. If not you will be harassed and shamed until you are complicit with the group or you will simply be isolated and ignored. Much of the online mechanisms of social media function in this way, thousands of groups preaching to the choir and isolating themselves from outside ideas. But the real purpose is to isolate those who do not agree with such laissez-faire tyranny.

And of course, when these soft techniques do not work there are always other recourses. Much of what the government is doing now is just a hardening of what many ordinary citizens have done for centuries. It is a skeletal formation because the old systems do not function according to need any longer, they do not repress enough. For centuries busybodies and gossips would share secrets and isolate members of the upper classes who did not conform. Dostoevsky knew this quite well. The techniques are well-known and employed by many members of the management class, what we call the middle-class; women even moreso than men.

Whether common citizens introduced this technique or the spy agencies themselves did so during the democratic revolutions is hard to say. The fact is that government agencies are not the only problem, citizens who self-elect themselves to positions of moralising private information and passing on capricious judgment are all too common. The common citizen participates in totalitarian rackets quite willingly and readily. Passing on all problems to the state while themselves acting as a state agency is a very American political technique, going back to what de Toqueville said on the subject. That problem will have to be sorted out if there is to be less of a mess in the future as governments and citizens' organisations tend to become more repressive and destructive rather than less so.

We should trust the FBI to be honest reporters of of their surveillance? We should trust Chris Christie, former federal prosecutor, in latest debate to be honest about federal prosecutors? Prosecutors and their federal agents, the FBI, have a 95+% conviction rate because they lie and present false evidence. The dumb sheeple on juries trust the government's prosecutors and police, aka the FBI.

The M.O. of the FBI and federal prosecutors is to present false evidence and expect the gullible sheeple on juries to trust the government.

There are no honest federal judges nor decency in federal courts. http://faqusajudicialcorruption.blogspot.com/

Legal justice in the USA is a myth. Trust in government surveillance is for gullible fools. There are no honest judges, nor justice in US courts.

This information nonsense isn't about terrorism... the predators-that-be are the terrorists (to the extent that term even has meaning).

The reason the predators-that-be want all information so desparately is...

... because very soon they intend to steal everything from everyone [below the top 0.001% to 0.1%], and they want to make sure they know where everyone and everything is.

And this is coming soon... very soon now.  Perhaps even this fall.

Get ready... or become an abject slave.

Get the hell outta dodge.

Yes, I disconnected more completely than almost anyone else.  I don't mind helping, but rather than repeat myself again for the 1000th time, maybe you should go back and read some of my past messages to get the background of what I did.

The short version is, 3~4 years ago I moved to the extreme boonies in the southern hemipshere, ~125km from the nearest human being.  I set myself up to be 100% self-sufficient, and finally just recently I finally produce everything I need to live a comfortable life.  This consumed 90% of my life savings to create, about $400K.  But that includes a new, tiny, modern, high-tech, super-efficient 2-seat airplane, which is now my only form of transportation (which is fine in the boonies).  So people could reduce the total cost by over $100K.

I have always been extremely frugal.  I got hooked on science at age 4, and spent all my time ever since learning on my own, which saved me from being trained to be an intelligent moron by the system, because I paid zero attention in school, but instead worked on my own learning and projects.  Unfortunately, I never had a "silver spoon", had to bootstrap up from zero without help from parents.

I was self-employed product developer (of scientific and technical products) my whole life, though I took a few contracts from time to time from the likes of astronomical observatories and NASA.  But not since I moved to the boonies nearly 4 years ago, and never again.

Also, I never trusted the system, or wanted to be part of the system, so I always kept my savings in physical gold and silver (mostly gold).  From 2001 to 2011 that turned out to be a good move.  When I decided I really needed to get the hell outta dodge in 2011, to create my digs, I had to convert 95% of my metal into my new digs.  It was pure luck that 2011 was the top.

I totally agree with you that the best "savings" are productive equipment and supplies that you operate.  Pretty much that was the story of my whole life.  Every time I sold or licensed a new product I developed, I'd convert much of my revenue into whatever new equipment I needed to develop my next projects, making me increasingly efficient and totally up-to-date technologically.

Also, I never borrowed a penny in my life.  And yes, it took a while!  Remember, I was already selling my inventions in high school, so I got an early start compared to most.  And I never wasted years (or minutes) in college.  Why bother?  I already had enough revenue to operate as an independent scientist, engineer, inventor and product developer.  But I was asked to teach a couple graduate school courses in my areas of expertise, but was too busy and not really interested.  Yes, they knew I only went to high school, but I was a known expert in a couple niches, so I guess they were willing to ignore that fact.  And yes, I'm not in my 20s any more... unfortunately.  Don't I wish!

I guess the bottom line answer to your question is... I was a realist and intellectually independent from age 4, started early, skipped 8 years of wasted time and huge expenses (college), bootstrapped without debt, and got lucky with precious metals.  Nonetheless, your IQ is 15 above mine, so you are smarter... at least in whatever the IQ measures.

Not really, but I know what to do.  I'm also naturally a very alert human being.

More importantly, my airplane has a "glass cockpit" with two large instrumentation displays (as well as a few smaller more conventional displays).

And most important of all, perhaps, is that unlike most private pilots, my very strong natural instinct is to trust instrumentation more than my internal senses.

Also, this airplane is rather well behaved, so supposedly doesn't get "stuck" in spins.  But I do admit, unlike some pilots, I don't spend much time practicing spins.

I can give one very obvious reason why civilians need encryption: secure for financial information and transactions. To prevent cyber thiefs from stealing information and using it for nefarious issues (identity theft, terriorism, etc). As far as keeping encryption safe from the gov't. Well the gov't was hacked eariier this year exposing confidential information of millions of people. if the gov't records can be breached that the gov't can't been trusted to hold bypass keys for civilian information. if the Gov't want information on civilians, then they should make a formal request, following the rule of law, provide ample reason, and most importantly prove that can keep provided confidential information safely, as well as provide full indemnity and re-imburstment should the gov't fail to protect civilian confidential information provided to them.

You can't stop data encryption.  Use a one time pad if you have to.

Basically, too many people have come to realize their communications are insecure over the net, and more are using verious forms of encryption to safeguard the data.  So Da Goobermint is unhappy they are being shut out by the cryptography.

Besides one time pads, there are symbologic methods of encryption that are UNBREAKABLE.  Cyphering goes back way before computers.  Don't trust your computer unless you know everything inside the Op System.  Don't trust an encryptor if you don't know the underlying code.  Use the Old Ways if you have to.

I keep reading these stories of the US government storing all of their citizens electronic data and how they shouldn't be spying on their own citizens.

WTF! Obviously if they are spying and storing their own citizens as well as world leaders they are collect all electronic data of all citizens of all nations, but I'm guessing that the only problem Americans have is their government spying on them, anyone else they have no problem.

Am I correct or do Americans give a shit about everyone's privacy not just their own? Because its your fucking government that's doing this shit without any checks of balances and most likely encouraging other governments to do the same and share that data.

Post liberation society has exposed the info-serfs to gross info-inequity with the info-lords. They can listen to all of our phone calls. Nearly every picture, mp3 audio, video recording, etc. contains hidden “steganographic” data about where it was taken (via GPS), the device's media access codes (telling where it was bought, often with credit card info, etc.). Just posting a photo with hidden personal info on the Internet can let “certain people” know everything about you! The info-lords know everything, while their activities are totally hidden from the info-serfs by security clearance secrecy.

Go to any Walmart anywhere; look up; see 300 video cameras, of course. You are going to be recorded by at least five of them at any given time in there, and you damn well know it. Or go serf-walking down Main Street; in many, many cities and towns you are now subject to being an observee to the info-lords. And you know it; you are an info-serf on a technotronic plantation.

Indeed, welcome to the mass observation culture, where an eleet ruling patrician observer class oversees the submissive subordinate observee class.

The wealthy info-eleet will be entertained by the spectacle of our misery. The relationship will be non-reciprocal with no info-equity at all. All information about the wealthy info-eleet will be classified Top Secret, and censored by the mediums that they control. so the info-pleb observees will never be allowed to know what the eleet are doing and enjoying.

So what are we waiting for? let’s even the score. Let’s outlaw all those cameras at Walmart and on city streets. Hire a few of us peasants to watch over things. Prices will go up a little, but very little. How much is it worth to you to be out of sight of the super-rich info-lords and their deputies, and not be an info-whore?

While we’re at it, lets demand info-equity! Lets demand that every room in the White House, and in every police station, everywhere, should have a camera and microphone, and that we should all be able to watch them all the time on TV. Why not? What good are their precious secrets? Did the protect us from 9/11? No. Did they protect us from the Boston Marathon bombing? No. It's a complete joke; their secrets can’t protect us from anything, and they are just too busy cashing in on their corruption to be bothered with our welfare anyway. They don’t need or want to protect us.

They’re too busy cashing in on their constant corruption to be bothered anyway.

As far as data attatched to photos is concerned:  Hex editors are your friends.
As far as the other stuff (cameras, facial recognition, etc.), a life-change might be in order to escape.
The less you play the game, the less you are subject to its rules.  It's not going to stop on its own, demand as you might.
They can't play their game with no pawns.

NO!!!  settings are held in ROM.

With Android you can control your phone after rooting.

If you format the phone and wipe all data before flashing a custom ROM you delete all settings and start over.

IN fact, you can do just about anything with Android.  but most people are too lazy to find out how.  They prefer to pay top dollar for crippled iphone devices because they want to be cool .

And to prove the point that UK Westminster conspires with US Washington, this exact same argument was tabled by the shameful lib-lefty David Cameron a month or two back.

Cameron demands that Internet encryption must be outlawed.

Given that people use the Internet for banking, paying bills, buying goods etc, it will probably end up with .gov demanding backdoors into all encryption routines, not just those it already has access to ...SSL etc. Anybody who used non-registered encryption would then be committing a criminal offence and assumed to be a terrorist.

The Internet needs MOAR encryption, not less.

Again the left assumes everyone is guilty until proven otherwise.

They should be doing their duty and profiling and forbidding the immigration (legal and illegal) of terrorists and criminals, including the F'd up mobile government of 'muslim' belief system. The muslim 'religion' is not a religion at all. it is but a mobile, pervasive diseased government disguised as a religion.  A part of their party belief is to kill and/or enslave all 'non-believers'.

Agree with your description of that religion. It's a tyrannical system of government, nothing more.

What is needed is less internet and iThingy's. Since it's inception everything has went to shit. Graph it out if you don't believe me. Pick economy. Pick employment, pick tyrannical governments, spying and what have you. Heck,,, A cashless society would never be possible without these gadgets. Spying on the level we see today,,, impossible. Election fixing,,, never been so easy. Credit/Money printing in a couple keystrokes. Individualism and privacy have gone the way of the Dodo bird. Interacting with each other is gone as well,,, we now just insult each other on the 'social' sites where .gov cherry picks all your used to be private information, now gone live for the world to see.

No matter the encryption,,, Digital by definition is not secure. This is being constantly proven with break ins and take downs every day. Government complaining about the latest useless encryption tell me they have no problem accessing the information and are simple trying to get more to use it, thinking its safe.

NOTHING DIGITAL is safe from hacking ,,, now or in the future..... ever!

This from a guy that used to love these machines, knows several programming languages BUT after watching the way they're being used has concluded their the worse thing 'Man' has concocted. Soon with AI,  machines will be ruling Man,,, in a way they already are. People are already wanting to integrate chips into their brains and in some cases already have,,, so if you think I'm speaking science fiction you are wrong indeed.

NaturalNews.com (formerly Newstarget) is an anti-science conspiracy website founded by Mike Adams (self-labeled "The Health Ranger") which promotes numerous alternative medicines and assorted woo.[2] Even other quacks think it's a quack site.[3]

The site particularly specializes in vaccine denialism and woo,[4] AIDS/HIV denialism,[5] quack cancer treatments,[6] and conspiracy theories about "Big Pharma"[7] and modern medicine in toto.

Furthermore, Adams supports quantum woo, specifically quantum healing[8] and quantum consciousness.[9] NaturalNews advances a hard green position, even though the site also promotes global warming denialism.[10] To top it off, Adams promotes conspiracy theories about gun control.[11]

If you cite NaturalNews on any matter whatsoever, you are almost certainly wrong.

Fuck you Comey. Just fuck you...

I keep very little on my computer, so you get nothing. More and more people will use technology to block you and all your sick fuck friends.

Terrorism my ass...the only terrorists I worry about are the ones like Comey. Pseudo-Americans shooting off their stupid mouths all the time.

No one believes you anymore. And when the shit hits the fan, none of your plans will pan out and your would-be victims will turn on you and tear you apart.

Maybe we'll see treason trials in the near future. All you sick fucks selling out this country will have your day of reckoning.

Is this the FBI that couldn't find the Unabomber for years but said a day after the event that 19 Arabs with boxcutters did 911?

That FBI?

Unabomber only used pencil and paper - nothing electronic

Want to be invisible? Go off grid - pretty inconvenient and soon to be nearly impossible when they outlaw hard cash.

For the good of the children of course.

Communists. They never change; so much smarter until they have killed half the population, for the good of the children.

Good post Tyler.  However, with regard to the closing statement:

"Oh, and there’s nothing we can do about it."

Really?

Comey and the other members of the cabal won't like it.

But there are PLENTY of things we can do about it.

Like what? Voting means nothing. Any individual action by you just makes you a domestic terrorist who either gets killed or jailed. Any attempt to join with others does the same. There is no new country to move to that promises freedom.

There is plenty 'to do' to make your own corner of the world better, and make you more independent, but at this point you cannot change the government or the legal (and illegal) laws. Prepare, stock up and stack, develop your skills, limit your electronic communication, and wait for the 'empire' to collapse from its own weight (and debt).

And if you really want to communicate, put down your tracking device (cellphone) and walk or drive to whomever you want to talk to.

The only thing prepping accomplishes is sealing your kids' doom. Do you think your kids will be willing or able to resist in the future if you're not willing or able now?  My fathers generation did nothing to stop this monster, even though it would have been far easier for them than it is for us now. I blame him for not doing his duty to the constitution, just as our kids will blame us.

Thomas Paine said "If there must be trouble, let it be in my day, that my child may know peace."

In order to preserve what you love, you must be willing to lose it. That includes your life and your family. That is what is meant when he said "Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom, must like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it"

Use your stored food and stack of silver to support fellow patriots as we march on DC to arrest the criminals.
