Since then, at least 1,083 people have been killed by police in America...
California has been at the forefront of police violence, with at least 176 deaths alone. Five cities in the United States have had more than ten deaths over this time period: New York, Houston, Oklahoma City, Phoenix, and Los Angeles.
All but two states (Vermont and Rhode Island) have had fatal incidents involving police.

It would certainly be nice to know the stats on how cop killings are handled vs. civilian killings. Also, I would like to see deaths per capita; in the small town of Ames, IA we had two deaths by cops in the 5 years I stayed there. Both were avoidable.
For example, this rarely-discussed case is a video of a cop ignoring orders to stop chasing the suspect. The gist is: the kid flipped out and backed his truck into the cop car, so the cop flipped out, cornered the kid, and shot him desipte repeated instructions not to. This wasn't covered in the media b/c it's white on white, so who cares? Oh, and the officer was put back to work same week.

Still terrifying to me b/c I know all the streets; they went right through the camups and nearly ran some kdis over. Luckily it wasn't between classes. What also creeps me out is that the officer who did this pulled me over a few months before, suspecting me of a DUI (in reality, it was 1 AM and I was tired, which the tests easily demonstrated). Shorter guy, looked like someone who was easily intimidated. I played it extra cool because I knew there always a chance the fuzz will flip out and shoot you if you scare them... turned out my hunch was right, 'cause he flipped out and shot this kid.
Of course the body count is going to be higher in states with a greater population number.

A lot of the time they just rush the cop w/o a weapon. Brown was going for the cop's weapon. There's a cop on trial in Charlotte who was rushed too. The dead guy was recorded on the dash cam rushing the cop. Cop tried his stupid taser first. He's lucky to be alive for his own trial. Tasers are a deadly joke.

Police by definition have to work with the worst people, so the real question is, what were the circumstances, is there any accountability, and ultimately how many of these adequately point to a narrative that someone non-violent is going to get bumped just because a cop felt like it?
Meanwhile, I'm thinking of one of my Chinese colleagues, in which a local cop wanted his family's condo so he could join them together, so he trumped up some chrages and had them evicted. I've heard civil asset forefeiture (aka 'we found drugs in your kid's friend's backpack, it was in your house, therefore we are taking your house') leads to similar abuses here.
Yet people are still shocked when a cop is taken out. I remember the days and yes, I know times have changed, that cops were mammoth in size and didn't have a problem taking your ass down without ever firing a shot. They (the cops) were also decent human beings who always showed respect. Today - not so much - practically zero respect for the public and always with the hair trigger just itching to cut another notch in their weapon.

If I were a cop, I wouldn't want to show up at any call that represented risk of being shot, or worse still, shooting someone else....especially if they are a minority.

A Peace Officer shouldn't have any concern about going to any incident if the blue force's hands are clean. The public would have no concern with any interaction with a Peace Officer, as it generally used to be up until the 70's.
I think the 70's was the turning point between Peace Officers and Militarized Police as we watched the siege on the SLA house for the Patty Hearst kidnappers. From that point on, we've watched, countless times, as SWAT moves into an area, besieges a house and sets it on fire, killing all inside. We saw it on a grand scale in Waco. {look it the fuck up, kids.}
Now, today, if I see a Police Officer in trouble I would definitely assist, even if it was an arrest and they were being overwhelmed. But the moment I see any sort of retribution I would step right back in.
Then authorize a purge and let the mostly black victims of these niggers kill them. They'll do it with glee.

The death counts are bad. But the division of the counts into states almost perfectly mirrors the distribution of the US population by state. Not helpful, there.

What gets me is, if Al Sharpton and his minions REALLY want to make a statement about racism, why do they always choose cases like Michael Brown, the Duke lacrosse players, etc. where a conviction is highly unlikely due to either the alleged crime possibly being justified (Brown) or completely made up (Duke lacrosse, Tawana Brawley)? The guy choked by an NYPD cop and the kid shot while playing with a toy gun in Cleveland... Both CAUGHT ON CAMERA... Didn't receive even a small fraction of the press coverage Brown got. And the guy in NY was right in Sharpton's back yard! Are they purposely trying to pick cases that won't end in convictions just so they can say the courts are racist too?
