Rand Paul Blasts Donald Trump, Calls Him A "Fake Conservative" & Wannabe "King"

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Mike Krieger via Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

The most accurate and incisive critique of Donald Trump I’ve seen to-date was a piece written by Jeffrey Tucker last month, and highlighted here in the post: Donald Trump the Demagogue. It’s very important to call out people like Trump for the man he is, so we don’t simply fawn and fall for a narcissist, strongman-type as a way to deal with our societal pain and frustration.

Rand Paul has done a great service by coming out with his own Op-Ed on “the Donald” published at IJReview. Here are a few excerpts:

I ran for office because I was tired of being misled by Republicans who promised conservative government and gave us bank bailouts and more debt. The Wall Street bankers got richer and the American taxpayer got poorer.

The Tea Party erupted over dissatisfaction with false conservatives. It amazes me that anyone in the Tea Party movement could possibly consider Clinton/Reid/Pelosi supporter Donald Trump for President.

I honestly have no idea what Mr. Trump’s real philosophy is. He was liberal before he was conservative, and has openly professed for decades that his views are those of a Democrat.

In 1990, he said if he ever ran for office, he’d do better as a Democrat. He became an independent briefly in 1999 before he switched back to registering as a Democrat. In 2004, he identified more of his beliefs as those of a Democrat, especially on economic policy, stating on CNN that“it just seems that the economy does better under the Democrats than the Republicans.” He only registered as a Republican in 2009 before dropping the party again in 2011, only to re-register in 2012.

This is a guy who said in 1999 that he was a strong supporter of the United Nations. He was for partial birth abortion before he was against it. He lavished praise on the bank bailouts. He was for Obamacare before he was against it and has said he’s “liberal on health care.”

Donald Trump is showing he isn’t suited to lead the country, and I think we all need to discuss why.

Frankly, it sounds too much like he is someone used to bullying to get his way. What do you do to a bully? You stand up to him. That’s what I did on the debate stage, and I was the only one.

We don’t need a bully, and we don’t need another President who thinks he is King. We certainly don’t need someone who has driven his companies into bankruptcy four times yet smugly tells us he uses our nation’s Chapter 11 laws to his own personal advantage. All well and good for him – but what of the creditors and vendors he defaulted on?

Voters are hungry for a plain-spoken critique of Washington. But I’m unsure how credible that voice is when it comes from the consummate insider, a man who buys and sells politicians like he does Lamborghinis.

Trump has paid over 1.5 million dollars to politicians from both sides of the aisle, from Harry Reid to Rahm Emanuel to Jeb Bush. The majority of his donations were to Democrats until a few years ago when he began thinking more seriously of making a play for the Republican nomination.

He has, however, put a significant down payment on Hillary Clinton—at least a $100,000 investment in the Clinton “Foundation” in addition to repeated donations to her campaigns—and acknowledges he spoke to Bill Clinton before he decided to pursue the Republican nomination. What kind of access was he purchasing?

It makes me sad to think that Tea Party awakening could be hijacked or hoodwinked by a guy who supported the bank bailouts, supported Obamacare, and continues to support the Clintons.

I was there at the first Tea Party in 2007 and I’ll be damned if I’m going to stand passively by and watch the movement destroyed by a fake conservative.

We owe the American people substantive answers like that, not bluster and bombast. I plan to stand up to anyone who doesn’t have the temperament or ideas to be President. Maybe it’s time for the GOP voters to tell Mr. Trump he’s fired so we can find a serious candidate who will bring real change.

Donald Trump doesn’t actually stand for anything except for himself and his own ambition. He merely wants to be President, and is manipulating people by saying things that push the right buttons. The saddest part is that people can’t see it, despite it being so obvious.

What?  Seriously, Imagery, there are these things called "filters" for email - you might want to look into them ....

I get "spammed" by Rand as well - but his mailers go into the trash and I never see his emails (see "filters")....  I think Rand made a massive mistake pandering to the DC whores.  If only he'd have stuck to principles, spoken honestly and clearly, and left the political maneuvering and soft-speech on the sidewalk, he'd be a contender .... but he didn't ....

The biggest critique of Donald Trump is simple: Even with as big a mouth as he has, there is still one way to SILENCE him... and that is to ask him how he feels about the secret power structure behind the Military Industrial Complex... He's all for it, because it "keeps us safe" from all the brown-skinned (or the swastika tatooed)  "boogeymen" out there.

Trump is being promoted by the very same people who want Hillary in the White House, and those people are the same ones who wanted Bill Clinton, and who wanted both Bushes..

They are the people who stand to gain (or at least to preserve) their private financial influence by maintaining WashingtonDC's status as a "Member's Only"  club.

The Medaia hates Trump..?   PLEASE -   When the Media hates you, you get no air time. Trump is getting more air time than every other candidate combined.

The Media hates Trump the same way the Media hates Kim Kardashian. Hell, we might as well put HER fat ass on the Presidential ballot, for fuck's sake..

I swear to God -  I'm living in a giant game of "The Sims" ... Would someone please pull the plug on my console?

There was a time when I thought Rand Paul was something real. Now it is clear that he is just a "politician" ... one of the more disgusting nouns that can be used to describe someone.

If Donald Trump is not a politician, then he has a leg up on the rest of the field.

I don't know whether Trump would be any good at anything other than calling attention to himself ... but anything is better than a "politician". The more politicians we have in positions of power, the worse off the people will be. That has been made abundantly clear.

Personally my view on Trump is that he is as phoney as an FRN, but I'm glad he is in there just to illuminate how big of a joke our political system has become. Now if we can only get Kim Kardashian as the front runner for the demoncrats and the circus will be complete.

Someone suggested getting her fat ass on the ballot, above, and I told them Kanye was not all that heavy...

But it would be complete, Kim as first lady, Kanye as the first real black president, then everyone could watch the white house every day...(burn)

The ratings would go through the roof. The country would have the president they deserve.

It's the only way the democrats can win against the Trump, fight Hollyweird with Hollyweird.

Yes Rand......we know. And FYI, the so-called 'tea party' was hijacked WAAYYY before Trump entered the 2016 race. As for 'fake conservatives'.....well, you already showed us that you clearly count yourself AMONG them when you endorsed that establishment hack Mittens Romney over your own father, who is the only REAL conservative statesman I've ever seen. Then you double-down on this by agitating for conflict with Iran and Russia, while pledging support of Israel.

And while I generally agree that Trump is just a blowhard who has no real intention of doing anything of real import (unless the globalist bankster overlords tell him its OK first) if elected......the more you keep focusing your efforts and attentions on attacking him.....the more traction you're going to give him.

Say Rand.....one question.....are you for or against FULLY ELIMINATING (screw 'reining them in') the federal reserve and jailing the banksters within/thereof who've destroyed our country?

I voted for Ron Paul in 2 primaries and wrote him in on the general election too (I live in Texas). That being said, Rand Paul is lower on my electability list than Trump is. The non-stop petitioning for money via email 3 times a day is downright shameless, too.

Until Trump drops the ball in a real way, he should continue to see support for the sake of principle alone. As long as Trump and Carson continue to rise above Bush, the people are winning. If Trump is a scam, the light will find him. Until it does, let him shine his own light in his own way and let him continue to wake up America.

Who would've thought that Trump would be what exposed half the country to the idea that Fox is no different than MSNBC? Look how many people are waking up.

Let the light shine, I say.

Who cares about whether or not Donald Trump is conservative?

I suppose that depends on what you mean by "conservative" - I think Ron Paul was the last of the Mohicans in DC.

I can't help but believe that Trump is just working overtime to fragment what remains of the (true) conservative base - i.e. the people who love the US and what it used to stand for.  You'll notice that he's not really suggesting any serious changes - just superficial ones.  His secret meetings with Billery make me think that he's saying what a lot of people are thinking - playing to the frustration - but his real purpose is to fracture the base so extensively that they can't get behind anyone in particular - and Hitlery can get "(s)elected" or should I say - make it look plausible that she might have been ... kind of like the last (s)election when Obomber got something like 23% of the vote yet managed to "win" .... sheesh.

I appreciate his efforts against the surveillance state, I really do.  But he's coming off as nasty, petty, and a sore loser.   You stick to your issues, deliver a spirited campaign and do you best.  As politicians go after Trump personally, people resent it and Trump goes  up.

The Republican constituency likes Trump because he is not owned by the GOP heirarchy.  Of course they may not have considered that he may be owned by the Democratic heirarchy, and running only to divide the conservative vote...

And, of course, the things you say here can't help but highlight your own strategic pledge to support the established GOP oligarchy against the wishes of its (and your) constituency...

We can't know your heart.  We can't say you said or did this or that for strategic reasons vice because of your true character...

Here's Trump ina nutshell.  He does whatever he feels is good for Trump, that's it really.  He is more than happy to fuck over everyone who is not Trump if it means that Trump gets to walk away in the clear.  Personally, I hate the guy, but here's the honest truth.

He wouldn't be all that bad as President.  He's not worth nearly what he claims to be, but he's still loaded.  He's not an industrialist with vested interests in horrid shit, he's just a developer.  He's not a Koch or that filthy jew in vegas.  he doesn't need to sell out for the cash.

This creates 2 scenarios for him if he is in the main race.

A) He seizes the opportunity to flat out state that he has no reason to deviate from his promises and platform because he's not being bought by the oligarchs and special interests who all other candidates must eventually bow to.

B) He is demonized by the mainstream and it becomes a fundraisers dream of "rally round the flag" to "defeat old mr money bags".  Public donations create a sense of participation.  When votes don't really count for shit, giving a few bucks transforms "a candidate" into "MY candidate".  Don't even have to pay for that, just have to trigger the "buy response" and it happens.

B will happen regardless, however if he is smart and jumpson A early... then B will seem like a counter and come off as lame.  Whoever strikes first will win the propaganda war.

Now, sure, he's a dumbass braggert moron... but if he is equally hated by dems and reps and not in any way an insider... nothing horrid will get fucking done.  he has no fucking need to secure donations or funding or any of that shit.  surely willing to take money, but he wont need to come back begging for more.  If you want to see campaign finance reform, he's basically the only one who will get it done.

Trump ignores anything that's not written down on paper.  If he doesn't like shit, he is the kind of guy who will just load up the supreme court with 21 judges to get his way.

That's because everyone else in DC is an egotistical asshole as well.
You need a big asshole to deal with all those other asshole.
Trump will likely give them them the shits.
That in itself is worth him getting the job.

Ron Paul is a sincere man.  Rand is just too weak.

Trump has spent his life combatting government. If there is an politician who hates government, it is Trump.

Things may change if he is President.  He may not own government, but will be in a position to take revenge.

How about cutting the Federal Government workforce by 20% for a start.

Luckily I renounced last year and the last election I voted in was 2008 (absentee ballot).   Nebraska sent me a ballot in 2012 and I sent it back and told them to shove it up their ass.  (in big red letters), that was I was renouncing.

Not one single candidate has correctly voiced concerns over the precarious situation of the current monetary system. It is the biggest threat to the world yet saying the words could unravel the whole thing. So all these folks talk about the things they would like to change while ignoring the horror that no one can alter yet is the biggest thing in front of us.

The Donald just uses the vernacular of the peasantry to connect with the people. He is no where near addressing the real problems of the economy. How do we gain jobs if we must compete with competent people all over the world?

The answer is the dollar must die and be replaced by a functional currency syste.

This is the topic that must not be named.

More whining from this group of GOP losers. Republicans want “conservative government” for working people and the poor, but are quite happy giving tax breaks to their wealthy supporters and continue spending $ trillions from US taxpayers on the military. The US/NATO war theater extends from the Levant, to Caspian Basin, Persian Gulf, China Sea, Indian Ocean, Horn of Africa (war on Yemen), the Maghreb and most recently, Eastern Europe and Russian Border. If I am not mistaken, Wall St bank bailouts have been endorsed by both parties.

At least Trump is basically honest.  As Mike Whitney pointed out in his piece- Trump: “I was a businessman. I give to everybody. When they call, I give. And do you know what? When I need something from them two years later, three years later, I call them, they are there for me. And that’s a broken system.” (Link: www.counterpunch.org/2015/08/10/swan-song-for-the-donald-gop-party-bosse...).

Unfortunately, the rest of the GOP field is dull, uninspiring and visionless and thus, has little public support. It is amusing to watch mainstream media go into cardiac arrest over Trump.

It's funny listening to you guys turn on Rand Paul.  Trump is a voice who cuts through the fog.  Right, because he hasn't opened himself up to criticism by taking any pesky policy positions.  Everyone talked about how Rand Paul was going to carry the Ron Paul mantle, but he half sold out.  Not completely which leaves him kind of half-cocked.  Now this website can't seem to figure out who it supports.  Probably what your Russian overlords would want.  I'd love to hear Trump's position on Ukraine.  He and Putin are both nationalist, blowhard poseurs.  We'd probably have WW3 in a week.

Pretty much on the mark, Mr. Hazard.

I think the reality of majority-rule representative electoral politics is that it is inherently bipolar.

You're either trying to assemble a majority for your guy, or you're trying to build a coalition to topple the leading guy.

People who are trying to invent some kind of exotic "third way" are just engaging in vanity.

If Trump wins the GOP nomination, he IS the Republican Party, and the "establishment Republicans" become a minority "third party".
