Socialism Rising? - Democrat "Confidence" Is Soaring Relative To Republicans

Tyler Durden's picture

As Bernie Sanders moves ahead of Hillary in one poll, we thought it ironic that the wave of socialism is showing up in American consumer confidence data...

As Bloomberg's Consumer Comfort survey shows, the spread between Democrat consumer confidence and Republican consumer confidence is soaring...

Which is ironic given that confidence for those earning less than $50k per year just hit an 8-month low...

Actually, booze is the opiate of the masses.  Religion is detested by TPTB because it, as an institution, competes for the "highest" authority.   That's simply the history of religious and temporal (statiast) institutions relations in the quest for ultimate power.

And with respect to R's and D's, no wonder that the D's are feeling more confident.
They're catching on that regardless of The Donald, there is not a single electable R out there.
If I didn't know any better I'd say that they're (R's) are trying to loose again.
But at this juncture, what difference does it make, anyhow?

Be right in line with the NWO's plans, big time.

All I know is that someone should look very carefully at Greece.  The end result is to cut the fat.  People and countries should save themselves the intermediate bullshit and look at the conclusion. Everything gets slashed. This proves that only money matters and the rest is a bunch of hoooey designed to obfuscate and string us along. The cycle has been repeated enough times at this point. "Socialism is Marxism..."  Your name says it all.  You obviously, like most, have never "read" any Marx.

And I am sure you believe the "Manifesto" was his claim to fame, even though most handwriting analysts firmly attribute it to Engels (his radical protege').

Socialism is the "happy medium" between Monopoly capitalism and full on Communism (not totalitarian).

Communism, like Fascism, is not totalitarian by nature or definition.  Only the ways in in which it played out historically did they both culminate in totalitarianism.

Just like the US can never claim to be a "Democracy" nor a "Capitalist" (free market) economic structure, there has never actually been a "true" Communist, Socialist, nor Capitalist economy.

Oddly enough, what they all share is a common theme of "equal access"....something that most Neo-Cons and Anarchists alike, miss.

Given 80% of ZH comments originate from paid Trolls, for the rest, I hope you avoid these "easily-twisted" labels and simply "follow the money".

Who benefits, and who does not?

What we have in the land of the free is socialism for the rich.  Or fascism.

We socialize their losses and protect their gains through the Fed.  Not one bankster went to jail for 6,000,000 cases of mortgage fraud that led to the last financial crisis. Dimon and Blankfein, our finest criminals, are billionaires today.

The Fed Won: America's 0.1% Are Now Wealthier Than The Bottom 90%

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-11-11/fed-won-americas-01-are-now-wea...

We are a fascist, police state today:

The secret collaboration of the military, the intelligence and national security agencies, and gigantic corporations in the systematic and illegal surveillance of the American people reveals the true wielders of power in the United States. Telecommunications giants such as AT&T, Verizon and Sprint, and Internet companies such as Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Twitter, provide the military and the FBI and CIA with access to data on hundreds of millions of people that these state agencies have no legal right to possess.

Congress and both of the major political parties serve as rubber stamps for the confluence of the military, the intelligence apparatus and Wall Street that really runs the country. The so-called “Fourth Estate”—the mass media—functions shamelessly as an arm of this ruling troika.

Is it possible that the optimism of the socialists is based on visuals of excessive wealth, soon to be redistributed?

Socialists, leftists or collectivists have never been concerned about productivity or even prosperity (you will never hear that word come out of Obama's mouth), only equality derived through redistribution. They NEVER talk of productivity, only getting their perceived share. And thier political strength comes from the fact that most of their supporters are hoping to gain from these policies. Not from more jobs. Not from even more skills. And definitely not from productivity (if you have ever set in on a union meeting). Direct subsidization is their hope and desire.

And lest you think that the fact there are many very rich people who associate themselves with the left debunks that claim, ask yourself why they would not willingly redistribute their massive fortunes to the people, rather than support policies that demand that those earning or worth far less than they, do so?

No one seems to mind hypocrisy as long as they profit from it.

Are you maybe looking at this too deep? Personally I think debating the merits of X-ism vs. Y-ism no longer makes sense, if it ever did.

For example, the word "redistibuition" is typically used as a perjorative by an X-ist claiming a Y-ist wants to take somebody else's money when they don't deserve it. Labels aside, the predominant ISM going on is Fraudism. A certain amount of it is always present, but these days that's all there is...naked institutional fraud and crime...nothing else.

A better word for taking money away from institututional thieves might be confiscation. Until the fraud stops nothing changes. What that has to do with Sanders and socialism confidence surveys I have no clue.  I didn't junk btw that was a staunch X-ist or Y-ist.

"isms" are primarily used to create opportunities of theft. Freedom is not, other than benefiting the strongest and smartest. Redistribution is pretty simple as it basically tells us that money aggregated in one persons possession will be distributed to another by no other device that the brute force of government for the sake of "fairness". Fairness as defined by whoever is benefiting from it. Our standards should be based upon earning, not demanding. Governments are sustained by those seeking to use its bloody club to impose their demands. Redistribution.

Fraud is simply theft through deceit. The rich and poor alike do it.

Thu, 08/13/2015 - 16:09 | 6423449 chunga
chunga's picture

There was a thought in my head about this, but I can't reach it. I think what I'm trying to say is that all the "isms" that are out there are all nested inside "fraudism" and that is not in the lexicon. The thought-shapers that put out these polls want to shoehorn the sheep back into this-ism or that-ism because there's no such thing as fraudism. Besides, who would admit to being a "fraudist"?

I will not argue that the poor never commit fraud. I will argue they aren't as successful at it otherwise they'd be rich. One last thing, as an anti-fraudist, I firmly believe the brute force of the govt protects and enables those who've committed, and continue to commit fraud. Examples: John Corzine and from today "Project Omega".

I will help you.

Rich and big corporations love the same policies that they deny everyone else. They have Socialists, leftists or collectivists for the rich and big corporations and have never been concerned about productivity or even prosperity (you will never hear that word come out of Obama's mouth), only equality derived through redistribution. When the pensions for the police and others are not paid out. It is because they are lazy lousy bums. The wealthy blame everyone else for all the problem they caused. They NEVER talk of productivity for themselves, only getting their perceived share. And thier political strength comes from the fact that most of their supporters are hoping to gain from these policies. Not from more jobs. The real unemployment in the US is far higher then the official rate. The lack participation rate for labor is ignored. What happened to these folks? In jail? Living in boxes? The defunding of education menas more morons to be lied too.  And definitely not from productivity (if you have ever set in on a union meeting for the wealthy the laugh at the death of workers). Direct subsidization is their hope and desire. That is exactly what happened in the US.

And lest you think that the fact there are many very rich people who associate themselves with the left shows how sneaky they are. They give a dime and nickle and the wealthy claim they paid for all the evil they do. If you wait for the rich to hand over the stolent loot. You will die. That is exactly what they want you to do. The wealthy have the shills talk about they won't willingly redistribute their massive fortunes to the people because the poor a lazy and no good. This nerative is the used to support policies that demand you subsidize the wealthy and fools who love them.

No one seems to mind hypocrisy as long as they profit from it especially the wealthy who love it when babies and old ladies die from medically treatable conditions.

No the Democrats have left socialism behing a long time ago, they are full blown Maoist style communists / collectivists.  They want blacks in one area, contained, and entirely indebted to the democratic party.  They want the undocumented hispanics, in one area, again indebted to the democratic party.  On top of it all you have the limousine liberal oligarchs.

I am far more afraid of O'Malley or Jeb, who I believe are roughly equivalent in ideology, than old Bernie.

Thu, 08/13/2015 - 13:41 | 6422796 Oldwood

Socialism is an ideology whereas Progressivism is a way of doing things, basically assuming that anyone who doesn't agree with you is not mistaken or misdirected but simply an idiot, and further...the debate is over. If you do not agree, you are not only stupid, but a threat to the theme and as such must be destroyed publicly to ensure your silence, but more importantly, made an example so others do not make the same mistake.

Regardless of your views on Trump, he has effectively said "fuck you" to that approach. They have tried to dismiss him as stupid and they have tried to destroy him publicly in the press...and it hasn't worked...yet. Trump's positions are irrelevant to the process. What he is doing is showing that the progressives attacks to dismiss and destroy are only effective if the person being attacked actually capitulates and retreats. Their bark being effectively proven to be far worse than their bite. Progressives have a problem on their hands and it is not political or even ideological, it is simply the fact that their methodology is being proven ineffective, which in any campaign, military or political, shows your enemy you vulnerabilities.

Pointing out the king wears no clothes can create a chilled breeze where it is least appreciated.

Because if you give someone ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY for the purpose of fixing the problem, and the right to kill or imprison anyone who won't go along with their agenda, then they'll ABSOLUTELY be able to fix it!!

And because they are 'Government' that means they are us!  And because they're 'us' we can trust them not to be corrupt assholes who would use ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY TO MAKE ANYONE DO WHATEVER THEY SAY ON PAIN OF DEATH for purposes other than the ones in 'Our' best interests, right?  Right?

Sure,

Because, well, Socialism has been working out so well for Europe over the last century.

Just ask Greece.

Or Spain.

Don't ask Germany, they've had their debts reset twice in the period such that the fiscal results are not apples-to-apples as compared to those who've had continuous governments over the same period.  Not meaning to pick on Germany.  Just saying the results can't be comparable because the fiscal results have been foreshortened twice.

Come to think of it...I believe most places in Europe have fiscally collapsed at least twice during that century of socialism...  I might have to re-do this analysis.

But I am sure that it can all be solved with some money from abroad.

I would gladly accept a king who was held to account by his people than a democracy that lends cover to every thieving fucking asshole on the planet seeking world domination. Democracy creates an illusion that if any person is elected, they somehow hold mandate to do whatever the fuck they please. The antithesis of what our constitutionally formed republic was supposed to stand.

I have said it years ago that the best form of government is benevolent dictatorship.
That can be a king or some revolutionary that seized power via a coup.
Benevolence being the operating principle.
Someone who will govern with the welfare of all in mind.
Such person would have executed or jailed all the crooked bankers and Wall Street moguls when they blew up the financial world.
Such person would also not allow corruption in government.
Problem is that such people are rare.

The key to any system is being voluntary in its existence and accountability of its people, especially its leaders. If a king can relatively easily be deposed by his irate population because his actions are transparent to all, then I would perceive that as functional. When leaders claim to represent their people simply because they won a democratic lottery which at best represent less than 25% of the population, and sees it as a mandate to pursue acts that in many cases are completely detached from their campaign promises, and cannot be held accountable without years of litigation, and opacity that conceals all facts other than the results to prevent any effective legal action..... I would say that IS NOT functional.

Benevolent Dictator = Friendly Enemy

Essentially you are saying that good government is impossible by presenting its best representative as an oxymoron.

A dictator is someone who tells you to do other than you believe is in your best interests and threatens to kill you if you don't.  Being a dictator is irreconcilable with the concept of being benevolent.

>>> Being a dictator is irreconcilable with the concept of being benevolent.

No it is not. A dictator is someone who has unlimited authority over the population. How that authority is utilized is what makes the difference to those governed .

20 years ago, I could understand someone making the statements that you did. Maybe you did not have a dictionary or an encyclopedia handy. Today there is no fucking excuse.. You are writing this online, so look up the meaning of the word before making ignorant statements.

u mean that people in the USA could even dream of resuscitating that mythical couple in US politics : FDR and Eleanor ?

Well who'dhafthoughtzat!

Imagine replacing the Bushes and Clintons, the Trumps and Tea Party mumps bumps with some solid democrats of that mythical ilk.

Socialism?

Lol, When Trump is conservatism and Bush is magnanimous compassion and Cheney is western civilization's last sentinel, then maybe, maybe, this "noun" is not a dirty word. Patriot act is patriotism ...right?

FDR introduced taxing the rich. It lasted upto JFK days all thru the Eisenhower period. America was never so vibrant economically as when the marginal tax rate was > 70%. Not saying we have to repeat just saying it had worked then.

So lets choose between the HFT front running world of the Reaganista "no holds barred, greed is good but don't get caught" age and the Glass Steagalled world of FDR.

And lets just laff at those clowns who hide behind false nouns like "socialism" as if it were the enemy of all liberties.

Liberty never walks alone. It has to have the people behind it. So individual liberties needs a republic; a state.

If Cheney represents freedom, if Trump represents "free enterprise",  then I'll buy "socialism" any day.

Pocahontas is the only elected person who rings true today.

Just saying...COngress is the den of thieves. And they all--except a few-- bow to the rule that Glass Steagall was all BS !

That says it all in today's hyper financialized world.

ABSOLUTELY!

Because confiscating 40% of people's wealth via Gold revaluing, plus having the only unbombed industrial economy in the world can't have had anything to do with it.  Right?

And if it did, well, we can devalue again, and bomb everyone to recreate the conditions, right?

Or maybe killing a few hundred million, and stealing 40% of all wealth isn't such a great idea?

Just think how great America could have been if FDR had not been restrained by a supreme court. One that he continually threatened with dilution by adding more justices to his liking, until such time as they finally capitulated. FDR's cabinet and advisers were serious socialist/communist, many who had gone personally to Russia to imbibe Lenin's Great Awakening to communism, bringing back accolades of it miracle...just as Falak does here.

revisionist history. FDR defeated fascism. You forget Stalin for all his pathological traits fought fascism too.

Fascism was the AXIS. Yalta proved that FDR in his dying days was not lucid about what lay ahead. He died one month later...

He wrote the greatest page of American history. As for gold, he abolished it as standard to apply Keynesian methods; for better or for worse. For better, if Keynes had obtained that gold be pegged to a basket of monies called the Bancor, in line with the SPIRIT of the UN, aka multilateral governance NOT HEGEMONY.

But it wasn't to be as the Manhattan project had already put the MIC in place to make the bomb and install the MIC/CIA hegemony under TRUMAN.

The world changed from then on. Potsdam tried to undo Yalta and led to Hiroshima as deterrent to the world.

Don't blame that on FDR. TRUman was the man who established the hegemonial ramp up of big stick and big $ hegemony.

Fascism was a european disease that became American after JFK's murder.

As Zweig says about power : once you have seen Medusa's head you don't want to look at anybody else; that power hungry look marks your destiny, you hunger for its fascination. And Hugo said it too when he pointed out : Under the Premier Counsel Bonaparte appeared the Caesarian face of Napoleon...Power corrupts and it corrupted the USA  from the magical bullet day onwards.

Don't blame FDR he did his job, as did Keynes. They mated US oligarchy's morph into fascism in 1932.

Its now back with a vengeance. Medusa has won.

FDR was a fascist. His policies prolonged the depression.
US became vibrant after WW2 because most of Europe was destroyed. US was a huge beneficiary of that war.
Not only did it benefit due to becoming the industrial superpower but it also got the benefit of major intellectual infusion from Europe..
Don't confuse the likes of Chaney with anything that is opposite of FDR.
Frankly Chaney was the mini evil when compared against FDR.

Just ask Ferguson Missouri.

I am sure of it everytime I must go before a board, or regulatory commitee to do something with my 'own' property.

But at least it is my 'own' property at tax time.

By the way...

...what are they protecting me from?

Wealth?

Happiness?

Self-Fulfillment?

Correction:

Of the last 100 years.

They've been solidly in power since at least 1910.

Prefer?

I think I need an alternative before I can have a preference.

I prefer them to be swinging from lightposts or burned to a crisp.   Thinking Bernie can provide an alternative - even were he promoting anything other than the 'Free Shit For Everybody' that is Socialism's calling card - is simply delusional.

You could put a saint in the White House, and so long as the rest of the government structure stands, it would make no difference whatsoever.

Theoretical power is not actual power.  And actual power does not transfer by means of elections, but delegations.  So, no 'savior' can be stronger than his backers...  And the oligarchs own the system of backing.

That's why I hope for a Constitutional Convention.  The only other alternatives are Total Despotism - a.k.a. Socialist Utopia - or Gallows, Guillotines, and burning Cities.

And I like the latter more than the former.

Socialism has two sides.  (Communism too)

One side as the common person sees it.

One side as the Socialist (or Communist) sees it.

The common man hears that Mr Socialist/Communist is going to take from everyone who has more than him, and give it to him.  FREE STUFF FOR ALL!!!

The Socialist/Communist hears that he can get virtually captive political support in unlimited amounts if only he promises people 'Free' things...that he buys by first taking the wealth away from the recipients!

A better way to make oneself a Demi-God was never invented!   Tell people you will give them 'Free Shit' and then take their shit to use as collateral for a loan that you split 50/50 with yourself and their "Free" shit.

Ha ha.

Capitalism takes from the poor to give to the rich but it's all embedded within the system so you don't notice it.

The inherent trickle up of Capitalism:

a) Those with excess capital invest it and collect interest, dividends and rent.
b) Those with insufficient capital borrow money and pay interest and rent.

Bankers get an extra bonus.

They create money out of nothing, lend it out and charge interest.

It would seem then that the purpose of the largest bank, the Fed, runs counter to that. It ensures a) won't make any money because interest rates are zero, and it rewards those that do b) by targeting inflation to let them pay back their loans with inflated dollars.

There are three types of totalitarian government. All are run by psychopaths suffering from varying degrees of madness.

1. Communism (extreme socialism)
2. Fascism   (the consequence of socialism merging with capitalism)
3. Islam     (a bastard mixture of the above masquerading as a religion)

Why is that ironic? Are you implying democrats represent those folks? LOLOLOLOL - c'mon, wake up. The democrats have been all talk about helping the little guys yet their actual governing experience shows they increases the wealth gap. What this tells me is that 'democrats' making more than $50k are pretty smart - they know the direction of the wealth distribution being preached is going to be going in THEIR direction, not the poor poor suckers that have been enlaved by the 'party' to deliver votes for more 'freebies' . Would you trust your FAVORITE neighbor with absolute power over you?  The power to dictate to you to do things you don't want to do?  And to kill or imprison you if you don't do them?  The power to take any (or all) of your property regardless of whether you've done anything wrong?  The power to take out debts in your name, whether or not you ever see one red cent of the loan?  The power to pass his authority over you to anyone he chooses?  Even to "that other party"?  Even to a foreigner?  Even to someone who hates you and has declared their intention to murder you and all your children?

If you wouldn't trust your FAVORITE NEIGHBOR - whom you know very well - with that power, then why would you trust some person you don't know, who travels around making speeches with such power???

Here's a clue:  There is no human being with a strong enough character to resist the temptations such power presents.

Why the hell do you want to give away so much power in the first place? What makes you think strangers will care for your responsibilities better than yourself?
