Guest Post: Can Bernie's Soft-Evolution 'Trump' An American Second Revolution?

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Ben Tanosborn,

Wishful thinking can come in many shapes and sizes, but history and present reality do readily tell us that Bernie Sanders is more likely to walk among us during the early stage of the presidential campaign as a prophet than as a messiah.  And that is not such a bad thing, for martyrdom always seems to take place as precursor to major change; and this resolute honest New Yorker representing Vermont appears poised to bring inspirational change in the much-needed political transformation of American society.

Yes; Americans, both the destitute and the destitute-in-waiting middle class do need a champion to forever improve their lives, or at least one to light up their torch of hope.  But the senator from Vermont isn’t likely to become that champion, becoming instead the prophet heralding the advent of a savior for America’s democracy, national dignity and pride; in Christian-speak, Bernie is not a Jesus but a John the Baptist.

America’s self-serving corporate press is making hay of what they claim to be an uprising of the anti-establishment citizenry from both the Right and the Left.  In its oversimplified and questionable wisdom, the press is equating the increase in Donald Trump’s poll numbers with the ballooning, commanding crowds attracted by Bernie Sanders. It does appear, however, that for obvious reasons the media is using a concave mirror to reflect the pompous Trump while using a convex mirror to depict angry, but smaller than life, Bernie Sanders. In fact, the media is giving Mr. Trump an unmerited free ride worth tens of millions, perhaps more.

And the press does not appear to be alone in that assessment. Many politicians and other parasites of the body politic are maturing in the belief of a new universal Big Bang theory: one which proclaims people might no longer be as tolerant of an ineffective Washington where people’s business gets queued last.

Even the self-proclaimed leader of those who presumably make up the ranks of political independents in America, former Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura, categorizes these two current followings, Trump’s and Bernie’s, simply as replicas in dissatisfaction to the crowd which propelled him to the governor’s mansion in St. Paul back in 1998.

But the populist and colorful former navy seal, professional wrestler and governor, who would love to be asked to cast a new political career with Trump [as suggested by his jabs at Jeb Bush on the Cuban-Dominican cigars – remindful of a Seinfeld TV episode] could not be more wrong: Bernie Sanders’ crowds, and those attracted by Donald Trump, may both be fueled by discontent but have totally different political DNAs.

While populist causes manifested in third parties, or independent campaigns, have at times reached moderate success – most recently with Geo. Wallace in 1968, John Anderson in 1980 and Ross Perot in 1992 and 1996 – Bernie Sanders’s crowd is quite different from them.  It is a larger, much larger, reenactment of the progressive wing of the Tweedledee Democratic Party… until Ralph Nader broke away from the sempiternal submission by progressives to give up their ideals and conform to “the lesser of two evils” in 2000, accepting the candidacy for the Green Party, and an eventual blame for Al Gore’s loss.  [The blame, if one must be found, should clearly reside in the United States Supreme Court that, undemocratically, handed over the presidency to George W. Bush.]

Could Americans bestow presidential honors on such a comical self-bemedaled business provocateur?  Is the American electorate so fed up with the state of the body politic that instead of resorting to a good old revolution, they would opt, instead, to seat this character, Trump, in the White House’s oval office?

Donald Trump would not have been a likely a character worthy to be chronicled by Horatio Alger… not in an iconic, positive way.  Questionably a business wizard, if his “deals” were to be analyzed in depth, yet a promoter in the American tradition with better luck than most. His audacity to crown himself with unmerited fame and glory surpasses pomposity and reaches the realm of clownish ridicule.  And if many Americans feel amused by his contempt for humility and use of wrestling-world antics, perhaps they should not be and, instead, take a pause and reflect on the sad reality that the United States of America is not governed under the auspices of Lincoln’s democracy… but the tentacles of this type of celebratory oligarchy.

This Trump-virus is not likely to persist for very long, but his damage to the Republican Party will remain undeletable… today’s version of India ink.

As for Bernie; well, he is on target pointing our big problem as one of economic class struggle, but Americans aren’t quite ready for a second American revolution; no, not yet.  And failing to adequately acknowledge cultural and racial diversity in American society, or the need to achieve compromise and peace in the world, prevent Bernie from achieving messianic status.  [His time spent in an Israeli kibbutz likely did enhance his understanding of democracy, but prejudiced his attitude for compromise.]

If only in his status as a prophet, Bernie Sanders could bring to the presidential stage the candidacy of America’s true messiah: Senator Elizabeth Warren!

Elizabeth Warren: the Cherokee fraudster who will hielp bring reform from monetary and economic fraud - but she says do not audit the Fed (the regulatory center of the manipulation and fraud).

~"This article might lead one to consider Bernie Sanders as Mohammed and Elizabeth Warren as Allah."~

Oh! Say..., I like that.

Actually, if one would wish to paint Bernie as John the Baptist, here's the news. He's fuckin' late. His messiah was Barack Obama and just look where that has gotten us. By the way, just how is that "Hope and Change" thing working out for you America?

And as far as Fauxahontas Warren goes, who would she run for veep, Rachel Dolezal? Puuulllease, the only ideas Warren has to run on Obama's already implemented to great detriment. Seriously folks, just how big of a federal government do you really need? Where's the limit?

Can Trump get serious enough to be a good president? Who knows, but he beats all of the others on the GOP side save Carson and Carly. All the rest are property of the Kountry Klub™.

Trump is right about Carly in that she did make a bit of a muck of HP. So is she the right person for the quarterback chair? Me thinks not but I would like to here what her gameplan is before deciding.

Which leaves us the good doctor. I like Carson. I like his cool demeanor, his reasoned thought. He's the polar opposite of Trump. I like the fact that he realizes he's not the top of the pecking order and tries to grok what the Supreme Being would have for us. Is he just chasing whimsies because he believes in a god? I don't know, but I like a guy who asks himself the question. After 8 years of Obama we could use 8 years of someone doing the "closer walk with Thee". my 2cents, YMMV.

John the Baptist was a righteous man.   And there is nothing in the world more terrifying than a righteous man.

Agreed.

I also find it funny that many times Jesus, instead of calling for the head of every single person thought to be the bad guy, He instead called people to get their own act together first. "Take the log out of your own eye before you help your brother take the spec out of his eye."

I have seen a precious few people do just that. And yeah, I remember when GOP national called the local GOP to get them out of power as fast as possible, because they questioned the neocons and could not be bought. We have some great actors but few or no righteous men running for high office. Just the same "I will solve everything by getting rid of [undesirables]!"

Trump is part of the Matrix. He is establishment. Why is he getting all the media attntion, if he is anti-establishment. They would ignore him like they do with the Pauls!

I have come up with my own way of helping Rand's campaign. As you all are probably aware, I have been making candles with silver coin prizes (https://www.etsy.com/shop/ScentSavers?ref=hdr_shop_menu).

To show the establishment that Rand is our choice, I will make a donation of half of the sale price of each candle sold (Aug 8th-sept 7th) to Rand Paul's 2016 Presidential Campaign (https://secure.randpaul.com/ ). The donations will be made in my name (unless we hit the $2,700 individual limit of course.) in the 11:00pm est hour of September 7th! A copy of the receipt will be mailed to the buyers address.

To thank Rand for standing up for the bill of rights and to ensure that the purchase is separated from a regular purchase, include in the buyer's notes which one of the bill of rights you believe to be the most important.

This is not a scam I will actually lose money on all of this. I just want to support Rands moneybomb on September 7th to help his campaign.

Personally, I think that it has a lot to do with wanting someone who actually does something right or wrong to try to fix this rapidly becoming shithole of a country.  If the last election proved anything, it is that anyone backed by either party will just be a hack for Wall Street and the Bankers.

Socialism is, surprisingly, Bible-approved.

In Acts Chapter 2, AFTER being filled with the Holy Spirit, "all that BELIEVED...had all things common; and sold their possessions and goods and PARTED THEM TO ALL MEN, AS EVERY MAN HAD NEED."

SOLD?  That means they converted their things to CASH.  So they (shades of Marx!) gave "to each according to his need."

Goddam Commie Apostles, filled with the Holy Spirit!!!

hwwesq3's version of the "okay Samaritan" ...

A man was walking on the side of the road and saw a fellow countryman lying bleeding in the gutter. He crossed the street so as not to be bothered.

Then a Samaritan man came upon the fellow lying bleeding in the gutter. ...

and in good socialist Christian manner pulled a gun on the guy that crossed the street in order to force him to feed, and shelter the injured countryman.

How wonderful our new found Christian socialism is ... remember, don't steal, unless it advances some social issue. Yeah, I think that's what Exodus says if I remember correctly.

An extended discussion: http://tomwoods.com/podcast/ep-427-was-jesus-a-socialist/

EDIT: In case someone thinks this doesn't answer the stupidity I'm responding to, simply follow the use of force (as opposed to the money). Hint: There ISN'T ANY in the Biblical example. This is made EXPLICIT later in the very narrative quoted.

Don't take something descriptive as prescriptive. Socialism works inside of a family unit. The apostles and their first converts were functioning as a family. For society however, socialism can never work because it is an ideology based on theft and fueled by covetousness. If you can't protect property rights, your system is blatantly unscriptural. Jesus said take care of the poor, the widow, the orphan. He never said pay the Romans more taxes so they can do it for you. Quit confusing taxes and forcible wealth redistribution schemes with charity. The Holy Spirit does not like being blasphemed.

Sun, 08/16/2015 - 13:28 | 6432191 jimfcarroll
jimfcarroll's picture

While I mostly agree with you, I need to say, "Socialism" doesn't work anywhere. Not even inside the family unit. CHARITY works inside the family unit.

Socialism and Charity are virtually diametrically opposed. I posted this link once before but it's a perfect fit and so bears repeating: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82NPMM85B6o - and basically bears out your main points.

Socialism is, surprisingly, Bible-approved.

Unsurprisingly, you aparently missed the part where the biblical version is VOLUNTARY and the man-made version is UNDER THREAT OF VIOLENCE/DEATH/IMPRISONMENT.  You'll also notice that the biblical version lacks a parasitic political class that gets to determine where all of that "giving" goes and usually exempts themselves from any of the "sharing."

BTW - Nobody is telling you that YOU can't liquidate all of your worldly belongings and give the money away - you know - so you can live the Socialist dream ....

Is Trump even going to be on the ballot of any states? If he is running third party, he needs to spend some coin to get people to get him on the ballot. How much is he fundraising

And the same for phony baloney Bernie Sanders. He's a prophet alright: He is Moses leading the Israelites BACK to Pharoah when he implores his supporters to support Hillary when his money runs out.

From The Nation's Eric Alterman, a guy I normally despise but thinks he speaks truth in this column on De Blasio vs. Cuomo

The national media are focused on the battle between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton for the so-called “soul” of the Democratic Party. This is silly: Shake a Sanders supporter long enough and she ought to be able to admit that America isn’t likely to elect as president a 73-year-old Brooklyn-born Jewish democratic socialist from Vermont. Clinton’s massive advantages in money, endorsements, name recognition, and popularity will eventually result in a landslide, irrespective of who better represents the party. What’s more, it’s an imagined argument waged over symbols rather than choices. Campaigns are about offering hypothetical solutions that will likely never be tested by reality. Contradictions and compromises are simply wished away.

Bernie is unelectable (another Dukakis at best). One of the main problems facing America is a lack of motivation within the rank and file citizenry. Trump might be able to inspire people to get with the program and get out there and do something productive for themselves, their families and the country. As it is now, we have a president who is a lazy slacker and uninterested in leadership (which is a good thing; a failed Obama presidency bodes well for the country). I'll wager Obama's Doctor has him on an array of meds to help him cope. When the light of day shines on the true Bernie Sanders, his campaign bid will end. And Hillary ? Don't worry about her. She cannot change her repetitive self-destruct propensity... implosion imminent.

Namely because the author is suffering from a gross misconception of the events that took place. And it also points to the author's belief that the blue team is somehow different than the red team. Not to mention has anyone clearly though through the ramifications of an Al Gore Presidency at the time? After all it did come pre-packaged with a juicy vice-presidential scandal ready for the press.

Standard Disclaimer: All future articles on Zero Hedge should be barred from using the term "Democracy" in any way, shape, for, or manner when referring to this country. Also, a listing of each candidate's age and an acturial table would be quite useful when making a decision on whom to vote for.

I hated Bush, but hated Gore more. What people forget is the millions of fraudulent votes for Gore cast across the country and the thousands of absentee ballots for Bush that were disqualified in Florida.

Bush really did win the election, but still didn't deserve to be President.

Every election millions of votes are created out of thin air. Whether it be black churches and Acorn sending in pre filled out absentee ballots for every black person living in a district, or bussing the same people to dozens of polling places to cast votes.

There hasn't been an honest election in America for perhaps 150 years. Dobwe forget how Rockefeller and Morgan bought the presidential election. The fraud in Cook County that won the election for Kennedy. Even more recently the power outage that saw Harry Reid make a miraculous comeback.

We need voting reform. One person, one vote. Voter IDs must be mandated. In the 2016 elections millions of illegals will be casting votes all over America. Controlled by the Sinola drug cartel. Part of their bargain with the CIA. I fully expect an outcome that will shovel the dirt on the coffin of the USA. Obama put us six feet under, but there could still be hope that the deceased was really in a deep coma.

and reflect on the sad reality that the United States of America is not governed under the auspices of Lincoln’s democracy…

Oh, but it is governed under the auspices of Lincoln's democracy. His suspension of habeus corpus and ignoring the court's decision that it was illegal, declaration of martial law, arresting local state officals, shutting down newspapers that didn't follow the Union script, all are just early precursors of what is going on today.

So this country is very much governed under "Lincoln's democracy".

I support Trump and Sanders, because both are toxic to the American welfare state. Like Reagan and Gorbachev, one man will attack the system, while the other undermines it with his naive attempts to fix it.

Be careful what you ask for.  I am truly terrified that we will indeed return Mr. to Lincoln’s democracy where the federalists spill out of the centers of power in the big cities and set a third of the countryside afire starting another civil war. If the ratios stay the same, this time we can expect to lose about six million men.  If one faction wills it and turns out the lights, we may very well lose ninety percent of our population within the first year.   This is not 1860 where the supply lines for the majority involved nothing more than walking out to the back yard and strangling a chicken.

There is no political solution to our problems.  No wannabe messiah is going reverse a contraction based on an aging population and declining resources. It took us two hundred years to reach the pinnacle of fossil fuel extraction and utilization.  We are now over the top. Debt of any sort is not sustainable in a permanently contracting economy.  The only option is to cover shortfalls with more debt and more printing.  The end result is a collapsed currency.

While the last two hundred years reflected Darwin’s assertion that things evolve from the simple to the complex, the present marks a paradigm shift towards accelerating devolution.  The complex systems we have built are noticeably degrading.

If there is a salvation, it will not be in the form of some five year plan put forth by progressives or recessives.  It will come in the form of local patches for local problems.

Two questions for the readers of this article:

1) Will the DC US' tyranny go away quietly into the night? Will millions of slithers--pols and crats--banksters, streeters, and their treasonous thugs turn away from grift, theft, brutality, and murder?

2) Will Zion abandon outright their American colony, and all the plunder from it that flows into their pocket and estates?

Ignoring the fact that Trump and Sanders are nothing but players in a staged performance of "choice," "freedom," and distraction for Zion, what success could they even hope to have in changing the current system of grift and tyranny? Hints: Dealey Plaza, and "I will close Guantanamo."

If you see what is coming, I have sympathy for you. If you don't I only have pity.

Liberty is a demand. Tyranny is submission..

Those that ignore history are doomed to allow it to repeat.

WTF is this article doing on zerohedge??  are u kidding me?  Anyway, we had our chance for revolution during the Ron Paul Revolution...a real one.....bernie and trump are fakes.

When either of them say audit the fed, or say 911 needs a new investigation, etc like Ron Paul did, let me know. When either of them show me a book they wrote decades ago explaining how all of this mess would come about, like Ron Paul did, wake me up. When either of them say stay out of the middle east and quit funding other countries, wake me up...This is all a friggin circus...As I mentioned before, not even Ron Paul can save us now, we are in too deep.  People should have listened to Ron Paul many years ago. Now all we can do is prepare and hold on for the ride.

"While populist causes manifested in third parties, or independent campaigns, have at times reached moderate success – most recently with Geo. Wallace in 1968, John Anderson in 1980 and Ross Perot in 1992 and 1996 – Bernie Sanders’s crowd is quite different from them."

About that "moderate success" of previous 3rd party candidates who might be placed in that category based upon their popular votes, in the last 100 years NOTE their number of electoral votes, especially for the last two "moderately successful" runs by another billionaire.

From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_third_party_performances_in_United_...

1924 Progressive, Robert M. La Follette/Burton K. Wheeler, Popular votes: 4,833,821, Electoral votes: 13/531

1948 States' Rights Democratic, Strom Thurmond/Fielding L. Wright, Popular votes: 1,175,946, Electoral votes: 39/531

1968 American Independent, George Wallace/Curtis LeMay, Popular votes: 9,901,118, Electoral votes: 46/538

1992 Independent Ross Perot, Popular votes: 19,743,821, Electoral votes: 0

1996 Reform Party Ross Perot, Popular votes: 8,085,402, Electoral votes: 0

The oligarchy has this all wrapped up. Stay home and masturbate on election day. It'll save gasoline and be a more productive use of your time.

Rand Paul needs to have a conversion experience, conversion to his father's Old Time Libertarianism.  Renounce his pact with satanic neocons and Israelis.

He is the only possibly-authentic person of sense in the race, except for Jesse Venture.  Jesse Ventura couldn't fix the problem either, ut at least he isn't likely to make it worse.  All the ohters will very obviously make the problems worse, keep them going longer, make us poorer at bottom and for much longer.  That is even if they don't manage another world war.
