I can't understand feminism. I would have thought she would have left Bill to demonstrate the empowerment of women and they'd flock to support her. She doesn't and they approve of her anyway? Obviously the underlying agenda takes precedence. Same as the Sierra Club supporting illegals when the environmental impact has been clearly shown.

My 75 year old boss was trying to write for me a small computer program to help me run one of his projects. At one point he got 23 if/then statements and was going nuts because he lost the logical progression. I showed it to Mr who helped him redesign the code using tables. He was blown away a man could actually get that far with having so limited programming skills. I was encouraged that kids in computer science today would understand logic inherently but he said no. Kids now primarily use tools and are not exposed to programming that was done 35 years ago so they don't fully understand how these tools were developed.
Pretty soon if Google can find the answer we all are going to be stumped what to do. ;-)

IBM championed programming as a discipline... akin to engineeringi. Microsoft championed (and influenced all others since) that programming is secondary to marketing and advertising. Microsoft's emphasis was/is that its only about projecting whatever it's thought will sell or be percieved as cool. The tempo was upped 100 fold, at the expense of quality. No one is kicking it old school and following disciplined software development.

Ummm? I got laid off last month (software developer) and in my job search have been asked far more about design principles than I ever have over the past 18 years of my career. Maybe you just mean Microsoft sucks. Yea, they suck.

Kids today know repitition. They grasp probably 50% of what they are taught so long as it involves repition. What kids lack these days is any kind of training in how to extrapolate from the repition they know and use it to solve something that they haven't been directly exposed to. In an oversimplied way of putting it, if they've been taught 2+2=4 (and actually remember it), they can't use that to figure out what 20+20 is because they were never taught that. They have absolutely no skills in logic.
It's been that way for quite some time. In my younger days, I was interested in becmoing a teacher, and even went through the program and received a secondary teaching credential. This would have been around 1978. My program involved a year of student teaching at a local public high school. I taught three classes per semester. Two of the classes were what the master teacher termed "idiot math". These were high school seniors who literally could not add fractions or decimals. Some couldn't even multiply whole numbers. A typical response to "What is 1/2 + 1/2?" was "2/4". I failed about 3/4 of the kids in those two classes because they simply couldn't handle basic concepts of mathematics. Not a single parent came to me at any time during the semester. They simply couldn't be bothered. The third class was introductory geometry. This one was full of kids who had failed the same course the previous semester. About 1/4 of them failed again and, I'll never forget it, the master teacher started to rag on me saying I couldn't have done a very good job if 1/4 of the kids failed the class. I was so pissed because this woman had taught them the previous quarter. I was 22 years old or so and simply didn't care if I got drummed out of the program at that point. I let loose on her and replied, "Well, I did a heck of a lot better than you. When you had them, they ALL failed." She didn't say another word, but got red as a beet and stormed out. Not surprisingly, she didn't give me a very good review. But, as I said, by that time, all the desire to be a teacher had been systematically beaten out of me.
From what I can tell, kids today are even worse in terms of learning fundamental concepts than they were all those years ago when I tried to teach them.
I've helped HS kids with their math and science homework. These were kids going to one of the top 10 rated public high schools in our state. They got 'good grades' with GPAs of 3.50 and higher. - - It was obvious that they really didn't understand what they were doing. Everything was by rote.
The 'education' system has been a major tool for destroying this country over the last 100 years. It got especially bad from the 1960s on. Most teachers & parents are products of that same system and don't even know how much their kids have been dumbed down and had their creativity and curiosity sucked right out of them.
For some reason there are a few independent thinking rebels who escape the mind & soul crushing that goes on in such 'schools'. Programs like Common Core seek to stamp out such real thinkers too.
Yep. My kids go to one of the best schools in this state. Nonetheless, they were giving out calculators to 3rd graders in lieu of making them memorize their multiplication tables.
Having a (now useless) engineering degree, I spent a goodly amount of time in math classes. From Calculus I to Linear Algegra and Differential Equations. And took a number of engineering classes that utilized those concepts.
One thing I learned is that knowing your 'times tables' is crucial to being able to do any and all math beyond that level.
Letting 3rd graders use calculators on a math test is the worst idea since feminsm.

while I'm of the opinion that rote computation is too heavily leaned on, and the first time kids see something they have to extrapolate on is the extra credit question on the final exam, times tables are absoultely indispensible and kids should know 'em.

The Iowa State Fair poll showed the crowd was 2:1 Republican, with Trump the big winner there. Of the Democrats polled though, presumably also rural and conservative as Democrats go, Bernie beat Hillary 6:4.
Hillary is collapsing while Bernie is surging, but to my knowledge not one Democratic Party leader has jumped ship and endorsed him. The Democratic Party leadership everywhere is trapped in 20 years of deals and favors from the Clintons but they need to bust out of that trap. They also feed at the same trough as Hillary and need a candidate that will keep their sponsors happy. They are no doubt starting to panic. They kept Dennis Kucinich out of the spotlight and largely off the stage, twice, so that while the polls showed him best representing the views of 70% of the voters, by the time he dropped out the second time his NAME RECOGNITION was under 70%. That's not working with Bernie.
Watch for the competition for the "Anybody but Bernie" candidate to get hotter! (I doubt they'll find one - Warren is their only shot, the only alternative that any Bernie supporters would find acceptable and she's hinting she will support Bernie.) Watch for the effort to find a way to define Bernie for the 50% of the voters who still don't know his name to grow more strident and creative. Watch for the Dem establishment to start playing dirty, and then dirtier, up to and including using the Republican-owned computer voting machines to steal his votes. Watch for this contest, the first open declaration of war by the beleagered American working and former middle class, to spill into the streets as the campaign gets ugly.
The only Hillary Clinton event I'd be willing to attend would be her execution.

This is a public service, because I don't think that the American people currently realize the severity of the crimes for which Hillary is being investigated.
I would appeal to readers of ZH to forward this information out by social media to better inform the public. Hillary is innocent until proven guilty in our system of laws, but the American people have a right to know the severity of this investigation.
