Ron Paul On The Seamless Web Of Liberty
Submitted by Ron Paul via The Ron Paul Institute for Peace & Prosperity,
Many people think the Internal Revenue Service was violating civil liberties when it harassed tea party groups. After all, the groups were targeted because they wanted to exercise their civil liberty to challenge government policies. However, the specific issue in the IRS case was the groups’ application for tax-exempt status, which seems to be an aspect of economic liberty. In fact, the IRS case demonstrates that there is no meaningful distinction between civil and economic liberties. A true friend of the free society defends both civil and economic liberties.
Many “civil libertarians” who oppose government laws interfering in the personal choices of consenting adults support laws preventing consenting adults from working for below the minimum wage. Other civil libertarians support government programs forcing consenting adults to purchase health insurance. Many liberals who join libertarians in opposing the NSA’s warrantless wiretapping fail to protest Obamacare’s assault on medical privacy. Even worse are those “First Amendment defenders” who cheer on government actions preventing religious individuals from operating their businesses in accord with the teachings of their faith.
The hypocrisy of left-wing civil libertarians is matched by the hypocrisy of many “economic conservatives.” Too many conservatives combine opposition to high taxes and Obamacare with support for authoritarian measures aimed at stopping individuals from engaging in “immoral" behavior. These conservatives do not understand that using force to stop people from engaging in nonviolent activities that some consider immoral is just as wrong as using force to make people purchase health insurance. Obamacare and the drug war both violate individual rights, and neither has any place in a free society.
In a free society, individuals must respect the right of others to make their own choices free from government coercion. However they do not have to approve of those choices. Individuals are free to use peaceful persuasion to stop others from engaging in immoral or destructive behavior. They can also avoid associating with individuals or businesses whose actions they find immoral or simply distasteful.
Many civil and economic libertarians also mistakenly believe that they can defend liberty while supporting an imperialist foreign policy. It is impossible to be a true civil libertarian, or a true fiscal conservative, and support the warfare state.
America’s imperialist foreign policy is the underlying justification for the rise of the modern surveillance state, and the reason Americans cannot board an airplane without being harassed and humiliated by the Transportation Security Administration. The warfare state is also the justification for the government’s greatest infringement on personal liberties: the military draft.
The United States government’s militaristic foreign policy costs taxpayers over $1 trillion a year. The costs of empire are major drivers of the American debt. Yet many of the most fervent opponents of domestic spending oppose even minuscule cuts to the defense budget. The government’s budget will never be balanced until conservatives give up their love affair with the welfare state and military Keynesianism.
Scholars, commentators, and other public figures who defend liberty in some areas and authoritarianism in other areas - or combine a defense of economic or civil liberty with a defense of the warfare state - undermine the case for the liberties they claim to cherish. Restoring the link between economic liberty, civil liberty, and peace is a vital task for those seeking to restore a society of liberty, peace, and prosperity. I examine the link between an interventionist foreign policy and a loss of our civil and economy liberties in my new book Swords into Plowshares.

Rand is geting the same treatment as his father. They are completely blacking out his campaign. Support the Rand Paul moneybomb on September 7th. Dont let the MSM or the establishment drown out the only liberty candidate.
Rand has blacked out his own campaign. His "Big Hug" zinger to Chris Christie was sophomoric and embarrassing. As a politician Rand has almost all of his father's weaknesses with only some of his strengths. Epic Disappointment.
Guess I should have seen it coming years ago when he foolishly stepped in to Rachel Maddow's telegraphed gotcha question on the Voting Rights Act.
Ron's greatest weakness was speaking time granted by mediators during debates and coverage with media. Rand shares this weakness too, he was given the least time to speak during the debste, so he compensated by interrupting Christie and Trump. I think he'll learn to land his punches or go down swinging.
I remember a debate last election cycle, which was on November 11th. Ron was given 89 seconds. Thats right, the only veteran on stage was given les than a minute and a half to discuss topics like non-intervention foreign policy. Rand learned that he needs to be much more agressive in the debates to make sure he is heard. He will continue to expose the other candidates for the statist that they are.
I will continue to support Rand's campaign. That's why I am donating half of every sale of my candles with silver coins to Rand's Campaign (donations will be made to support the moneybomb on September 7th). This is my way to help Rand, spread real money, and raise awareness on the federal reserve: https://www.etsy.com/shop/ScentSavers?ref=hdr_shop_menu
Of course, you can donate directly toward Rands campaign on September 7th here: https://secure.randpaul.com/
End the Fed!
Epic Disappointment.
Are you serious? That is exactly what Rand needed to do, something his father failed at doing because he was too kind. The reason the Trumpster is in there spewing off his rants, is to divert attention from Rand and his attack on the banksters. Makes me wonder what/whose interest you are trying to protect.
Big Hug. You think that was the exactly the vociferous Rand Paul that is needed?
Give me a gucking break.
It was both disappointing and pathetic. And I don't see how I'm protecting a particular interest by pointing out that the Curly Haired Semi-libertarian Hobbit is blowing his campaign.
Rand Paul is a bowl of jello, only squishier. He abandoned any principle his naive followers thought he might have, and now stands for nothing. Now he should just go away and stop wasting oxygen.
People are scared to death of freedom unfortunately...because the roads...and the schools...and evil brown people
"People are scared to death of freedom"
Your statement holds truths so wide reaching that even you may not realize. Excellent point nonetheless --
Some folks are so frightened of liberty that they'll insist that free individuals who associate voluntary always turn into Hitler while it is necessary to allow an elite class the moral authority to imprison or kill the citizenry in order for people to be free.
Liberty is a wistful longing of nostalgic old white men. No one is scared of it.
Brown people never enjoyed liberty and never considered it a viable option. The younger generation of whites realize it can never be again, any more than Snow White's castle or the Seven Dwarfs' cottage.
Liberty could only exists where nearly everyone has the potential for self sufficiency. In the over-populated, degraded world of today, which is becoming more over-populated and degraded every day, 95% of people can only survive with the help of large-scale social systems which entail the loss of liberty. Younger people simply understand this, and don't waste time on a nostalgic fantasy.
Matthew 6:24: Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
That is the philosophy the "sheeple" have adopted, only the more so when they never heard of Matthew 6:24.
requires no comment ---Dr Paul--a principled statesman-
I miss Ron.
Me too. I miss what might have been, but then as several Zero-hedgers have suggested, he would likely have been beaten down and forced by threat of death to capitulate. The internet may be the right way for him to share his wisdom after all; they can't deny him his opinion, or his followers. It will take more time, but I think maybe the worthwhile american voter needs that. Ron will be with us for a long time, and like a fine wine...
"The United States government’s militaristic foreign policy costs taxpayers over $1 trillion a year."
And that is just the greenback cost, not the spiritual cost or greater cost in liberties lost.
Get ready to sling arrows but I will say it again...
At some point in futue history, the likeness of Ron Paul should either be added to Mt. Rushmore, or either Lincoln or Roosevelt replaced with same. One thing is virtually a lock however, and that is that history will look back and 'revere' Ron Paul, in much the same manner as the name 'Revere' implies.
Dr Paul would never support such a measure if it were federally funded...not in the constitution
I will personally then (and happily) start a movement to privately fund a memorial in his honor when the time comes - not that mine is anywhere near an original concept, and there are certain to already be a line of people ready to break dirt on the project, given the green light. His contributions and positions will be honored in permanence.
George Washington (1732–1799), Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826), Theodore Roosevelt (1858–1919), and Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865).[2]
Some controversy here.
Traditionalist supported the British Monarch. So the Liberal or Progressives were the founding fathers in this sense. Some have accused Thomas Jefferson of being the most liberal of all Founding Fathers. Alexandre Hamilton might has had Traditionalist Leanings since he was all into the Banking Thing, eh?
I don't have a problem with Washington, Jefferson, or Roosevelt. But learning more about FDR and the WWII, Pearl Harbor as a False Flag, he came from a Banking Family apparently. And Abraham Lincoln is kind of in the Spot Light about the Civil War and the reasons for going to Civil war... although I understand the French & British were constantly planning some kind of coup on the USA... which leads us all to consider that the USA had to be a Big Union to Defend the Nation.
Should be some more comments about this.
You got that right koaj. Not unlike Ghandi's distaste for the "honorable title"of Mahatma. A TRUE public servant.
If Dr. Paul thinks American Hegemony can be restored he should hand his doctorate back to the degree mill he purchased it from, frankly.
p.s. I always thought Ron Paul was smart until now.
You clearly don't understand what the word "hegemony" means. Look it up and compare it with what Ron Paul is advocating. There is no inconsistency.
He's MASTER OF UNIVERSE not MASTER OF DICTIONARY.
Master baiter.
He's an MD, not a PhD so he doesn't really have a "doctorate", eh?
Anyone who delivers 4000 babies is a good person.
Ron Paul, David Stockman, Bernie Sanders all stand for peace.
But most of us don't know for sure what the plans are for the USA. Clearly there are many foundations, think tanks, associations, networks, International Organizations, Transnational Banks.
There are inside stories, but most employees are kept dumb and not given access to promotions and to work up through government & the MSM Press. Most of us are not CIA or NSA or Goldman Sachs or JPM.
North American Union & Amero?
Nationwide Tightening of Credit Ratings on Cities and States as a response to pressure for Banks to Reform... triggering worse Economic Conditions and less consumption??
Currency Wars?
Change in Fiscal Policy, Change in Federal Repayment Rate, New Taxes, Financial Terrorism like in 2008, Fear of Terrorism and War to boost DoD/MIC Spending & Destruction of Material Rates??
And what is the New Savings Account Interest Rate Policy since the FED is Obviously now Fascist.
Boiling it down, 501(c) is nothing more than one requesting permission not to have to pay to speak--a clear violation of our inherent, and First Amendment, rights of free speech. Therefore such a requirement is null and void, and criminal, Article 3, Section 3, treason, to enforce.
Zion is a scheme, not an ethnicity.
How'd That Happen?:
Jews make up 2% of the American population, and yet make up 33%--known--of the Supreme Court.
The Constitution is "The Law of the Land" (Article VI). It has never been rescinded, or repealed. It is the instrument that created, and limits, the power of the United States government, nation, over the American country.
If the United States Government operates outside the strictures of the Constitution, then it is, by definition, criminal, and all of its strictures are null and void. It must then be thrown off of us, the American people, and replaced.
"...when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."
As such, you have not only a right, but a duty, a responsibility, to throw off the criminal DC US government, and their Zionist minders.
Are you ready to embrace your right, and fulfill your duty?
Zion is a scheme, not an ethnicity.
The Constitution is a framework for creating law of the land.

Liberty is Liberty.
There is no "economic" liberty any more than there is "civil" liberty.
If this is the best defense of liberty....eh, hem, then is it any wonder that it is gone?
The pride you exhibit while insisting that others own you is bizarre.
Is my comment true or false and why?
2 Corinthians 3 covers liberty

I almost had an inclination that you may not be as hollow as the rest of this.
I won't be back to this article.
Email me if you want to continue.
Ron, you failed to accomplish your stated mission. Therefore you accomplished another. I know where your money is and I am not CIA.
I will meet your dna again.
