What Will You Do When The Government Checks Stop?

Preppers talk about the day when paper currency becomes worthless and how they plan to barter when things fall apart. But, what will most people do when the government check they depend on stops forever more. Over 50% of the people in America now get some kind of government check every month. That is a question that I think many people have not come to grips with yet. At some point, the checks will stop.
Social security and Medicare are running dry fast and it is only a matter of time before they stop paying out in whole or in part. If someone relies on these payments then they likely do not have sufficient money stored away to survive on in the event payments stop.
Not only that, the many other entitlement payments sent out monthly that are keeping the population clothed, fed and housed will stop at some point as well. When that happens we already know what the result will be, especially in the cities. It is inevitable but many people still trust the government line and do not worry about it.
There are those that realize the threat but have not taken any action to mitigate the problems that will result when the fateful day comes. Many hope it will be forestalled for their lifetimes and some hope if they ignore it, it simply will not happen. If government checks stop it will also mean the destruction of retirement plans and savings accounts and if you do not hold it you will not have it.
One of the most vulnerable groups are the babyboomers that are now retiring at the rate of 10,000 per day. If this growing group suddenly loses their monthly check along with most or all of their savings, it is going to put a lot of pressure on society as these people suddenly try to return to the job market to survive.
With the job market shrinking on a daily basis it is now imperative to develop a backup plan to generate some type of income when you can no longer rely on past promises to be honored. If you can store away some real money or valuable items to utilize later that is great but that will not last you forever.
Anyone that survives the coming currency crisis will be someone that planned ahead and had some way to generate income after everything falls apart. If you can generate income to live on, be it money, food, medicine or some other item you need, you will be able to care for yourself for the duration.
That is going to be a critical element in any long range plan you come up with. This means you will need to have the ability to produce something of value that society will need on a daily basis. The first things people seek out are food, shelter and clothing. Having some abilities in one or more of these areas will be the closest thing to guaranteed sales potential that you can get.
Once these needs have been met by society other things will become important such as energy, security, transportation and medicine. Having some abilities in one or more of these areas will insure income for a long time to come as society rebuilds itself.
If you have abilities in a primary need and a secondary need, you will be way ahead of the majority of the people seeking to survive the chaos that follows the loss of jobs and a functional currency.
This plan could be as simple as growing a small garden to have vegetables and seeds to sell. At the same time it would be little trouble to add a few medicinal plants to your plot. You might be able to offer shelter in the form of a spare room or a cottage in your back yard. You could combine this with transportation or security services. In a breakdown of services, energy would be heavily affected. If you had the ability to produce electricity for refrigeration or ice production or the ability to power a vehicle with a wood gas system, you would have a valuable commodity. The ability to make small wood stoves for people without power would give you a large market for this type of appliance.
It is important to think about all of the systems we rely on every day that people take for granted. This will give you a large list of potential goods or services that you may be able to provide after these things become difficult to get. A few dozen chickens producing eggs in your backyard could be the difference between getting by and suffering terribly.
It is also important to think about the support systems you will need to supply the raw materials to produce your goods or services. Chickens need feed. Wood gas producers need a supply of wood. Making wood stoves requires steel. Growing a garden requires not only the knowledge but seeds, tools and fertilizer.
It is important to keep in mind that retirement is a relatively new invention that came about in the 20th century. Until then, people worked until they literally dropped dead. When the current financial system breaks permanently, people will be forced to go back to work and keep doing so until the day they die. That is the reality many people will have to face in the near future. It is a reality that many have not considered and do not want to think about. You can ignore reality, but you cannot ignore the consequences of ignoring reality. When the government checks stop and your savings are gone, what will you do?

Stop trying to confuse things with facts.
Anyone who thinks they are going to "thrive" when the US goes bust is fooling themselves. Anyone with anywealth in this time will be like a steak thrown into a pool of starving piranhas.
Best thing to do? Find a foreign country where you blend in (e.g., people that look like you); that has societal experience with collapse and doesn't have 50% of the population dependent upon .gov for survival. Then watch.
After a purge or two, that 50% of the population in the United States will demand socialism, they'll get it.
Want to be rich in the United States? You can do one of two things;
1) Prey that US splits up, and the entire continent doesn't go the way of the former German Democratic Republic, then relocate to the non-socialist part (like what happened in Germany in 1945).
2) Move overseas, wait out Socialism and then come back after collapse buying things for pennines on the dollar (like what happened in Germany, where you had people buying 10,000 sq. foot Neo-Classic castles for 1 DM in 1991 -- now selling them for millions).
Look at Germany as a great example as to what is coming to the United States.

The current estimate is a 20% cut. Remember this program has been abused by the current Administration to get more unemployed people out of the labora force, making unemployment look artificially good. If the Congress actually passes legislation to keep it at capacity, they will probably take from the SS retirement fund, and bring its bankruptcy date forward by several years.
We're going to see this one develop in real time, and the Boomers most likely will see it all happen in their lifetime.

I am GenY myself, and my retirement plan is to assume that I am getting 0 from any of these programs. Also, I didn't bring it up in the earlier post but while the official bankruptcies are in 2016/late 2030s for SS disability/retirement, the reality is that they are both bankrupt as 100% of the money had been replaced with non-marketable bonds. The assets only have value if the government pays for the bonds. And in turn, if the people can realistically pay the taxes necessary.

I'm sure the checks will keep coming unfortunately it will be in such a diluted currency it wont matter much. If not people survived the great depression. I use to talk to my Grandfolks about all the time. Sure things were tough but they got by, and pretty much everyone they knew were all in the same boat. Shit I grew up in the 70's things were tough, we didn't have a lot. We didnt have cable or cell phones we played whiffle ball and threw a Frisbee, played cards, we ate a lot of pasta. People will survive, its not like its that great for the majority right now.
That is what I'm trying to figure out. I'm and economist and a prepper. Strong believer that economics rule in the end and central governments can't change things forever. First, I thought they would stop paying ebt and any checks. But since they do illegal things in the government anyway, could they continue to pay electronically to everyone and just have the "fake" accounts at treasuery be drawed on? This is based upon the elite ignoring the rules and just paying electronically in cheaper dollars. Could they do that for awyhile (for years)? The other thing I've noticed is many even those who talked the market up for last 7 years, are saying it's a bubble. Looks like they sold their stock and shorted the market. "Talking their position". Again interested in any information and appreciate it on how they could try to keep this ponzi scheme going. I still believe at some point it has to end. Just trying to find my bugout signal. Which is easier know I live near family ranch and away from large midwestern city.

Sounds like to me that they're just printing (ie drawing electronic funds from thin air -- ie banking procedure) from accounts that don't exist and pretending like they have the money. If you or I did that we'd go to jail for passing fraudelent checks.
I'd say we're on that last leg of pretend money that people still believe in. The minute the belief wavers, the pretend money returns to its intrinsic value === ZERO.
Probably just eat my stockpiled rice and chickpeas I bought with my EBT card, along with my kilos of green tea. I do need more rice. Thankfully this month I got more money leftover on my card. Probably should buy another 25lber or two.

Well, today I split wood and did some sprints and other exercises. Hopefully the same thing, but not having to sprint for being chased. And would be nice to be able to log in to ZH to see what is going down.
Might fully bug out. Don't know, probably won't have to right away.

Health and longevity is pretty much the key. Can you imagine masses and masses with no useful skill like those involved
in lending debt. I picked up work at age 10, sure I was a loner,
I didnt have much in common with the college freshman class who didnt live
yet what I knew at age 10. I got really rare skills like no encumbrances common to american slaves, like ignorance.
Now my trophy wife is 13 years younger, comes with wisdom. So I didnt fit in then but got the last laugh, and when
I join them at reunion, I look 10-15 years younger. Maybe because I learned some things the old fashioned way and
saw the whole slave harvest coming and just stayed one step ahead,
connecting the dots, the old dot connector. I just observed and learned because opposite
the liberal experts the never left the porch, I knew there was some evil going on here that I was not understanding so I
better just shut up and and observe and learn.
Imagine the money I go through in maintaining life, take that down 90 95%, I cant imagine yet but I am making provision
none the less.

don't get ur panties in a wad, the checks will never stop. Look at Greece, they are selling off the country but those checks still go out. America is 30 to 50 years from facing real terror.
Besides, .gov doesn't send me a check, it's just direct deposited the first week of the month and all spent, or withdrawn, within the next 3 days.
