FBI Had 12-Page File On George Carlin Because He Made Jokes About Government

Comedian George Carlin is known as one of the most controversial and outspoken entertainers of his time, and as far as the government is concerned, he could have possibly been a terrorist.
Carlin was not a violent or criminal person in any way, but he said things during his routines that struck at the root of the problems in our society. He went into great detail about corruption in government and business.
During the 1978 Supreme Court case, FCC v Pacifica Foundation, the government cited Carlin’s work as an example of profanity. They used his “Seven Dirty Words” segment to show the type of language that was being used in records and broadcasts. However, the government’s interest in his work did not stop there.
Just after his 1969 appearance on the Jackie Gleason show, Carlin caught the attention of the FBI because he made jokes about then-FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover. According to the government, Carlin had “referred to the Bureau and the Director in a satirical vein.”
They added that his act was “considered to be in very poor taste” and “it was obvious that he was using the prestige of the Bureau and Mr. Hoover to enhance his performance.”
After Carlin’s appearance on the show, the staff of Jackie Gleason received a number of anonymous letters — allegedly from fans but possibly from the FBI — condemning Carlin for speaking about the government in the critical way that he did. It has been proven that the FBI has indeed sent threatening letters to public figures in the past, pretending to be concerned colleagues or a member of the public, including to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
A letter claiming to be from a viewer of the Jackie Gleason show, criticizing Carlin’s statements.
Anyone that speaks out against the injustices of the world, whether they are a dangerous terrorist or a harmless comedian, will receive unwanted attention from government.

Anyone quoting scripture in the context of this thread has obviously never listened to George Carlin. Give yourself an education and watch his stuff, espcially the stuff about religion.
Perhaps it is you who does not get it. Carlin said what he said. That didn't make him correct nor does it automatically disqualify anyone else from saying what they have to say.
Or perhaps you would ban free speech?
Watch some Carlin and see what he has to say on that.
Carlin was very accurate of his criticism of modern religions. They are a farce.
However, having said that, because a corrupt denominational church system conquered Christianity and the Scriptures doesn't invalidated the significance of the Scriptures as a significant historical document. BTW, much of what Carlin preached is what the prophets and Jesus preached if the words are placed in proper context. You just have to know what was stated in order to properly criticize it. I wouldn't rely on the modern church system and TV preachers as a source for getting the full meaning of the Scriptural text.

I have watched that Carlin clip over and over throughout the years, though it cuts off the part about being the american dream because you have to be asleep to believe it. The part I love and empathize with the most is his tone and painful acceptance that, "nobody seems to notice, nobody seems to care." That is a sentiment all ZH'ers can identify with.

carlin was a class act. my girlfriend at the time did some graphics work for his first hbo special. he had hbo give everybody involved in the production two tickets to the show which was videotaped at theater in union city, nj. he then invited us all out to dinner in greenwich village. he stopped by every table in the restaurant and talked to every single person there. when he asked me about my role in the project, i told him that i was just freeloading. he laughed and said enjoy the meal.
Same for his manager. Met him at a ball game here in town about 10 or so years ago. Next time we crossed paths he gave me a copy of Carlin's last book, autographed by the man himself.

Speaking of conspiracy theory, I am really starting to wonder about the effect of subliminals on people. Ever notice that most people who still have critical thinking skills almost always watch very little TV? We joke around about media content rotting peoples brains but there is very possibly more to that than Kardashian ass.
I have a friend that made quite a bit of dough selling subliminal CDs boost your confidence, make more money, rah rah type of stuff. Often these types of CDs are mass produced by a third party, how the hell do you know what's on there? The subconscious is a very powerful and poorly understood thing and you don't want it meddled with.
I've considered buying a recorder and doing some self hypnosis on being "impervious to outside arbitrary suggestion", but that may not be a good idea either because if you inadvertently make yourself more suggestible you may break down any natural defenses you do have. Anybody who has been involved in advertising can tell you that you are being bombarded constantly by various tricks. Seems there should be some way to defend against these things, at least for now. Just random thoughts.
