"No Brainer" AAPL Enters Bear Market

Tyler Durden's picture

Following the biggest 4-day decline in AAPL stock since Jan 2014, the "no brainer" once-darling of the investing world has just officially entered a bear market, down 20% from its April record highs.

The break below $107.63 brings AAPL into a bear market...

For the biggest 4-day drop since Jan 2014...

When does Carl Icahn's discipline kick in? Or is he on the iBuyback line right now with Tim Cook?

China is 25% of Apple's market.  And Chinese stock market collapse, yuan devaluation, tensions with US, Citadel banned from trading - all these will reduce Apple sales in China.  And the drop in emerging market currencies makes Apple much more expensive.

And having the US stock market drop 9% from its high will not help Apple either. The Dow has lost a 1000 points this week.

Another 10 days and Apple should be below $100.

Apple is a dead man walking.  They are still riding on the tremendous success of the iPhone.  Jobs made a bet that paid off wonderfully.  It is your textbook 'right place at the right time' story that also made fortunes for people like Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates.  The problem is, owing all your success to one product is a bad place to be, just ask RIM.  If anyone suggested, during its heydey, that the Crackberry was going into the dustbin of history, they would have been laughed out the door.  Fortunes can reverse very quickly.

All of Samsung's Galaxy line runs circles around any iphone.   People are wising up.

iNuts pay top dollar for crippled devices.  (no removable battery or SDcard)

NSA and TSA love them though.   Its up to your iNuts to figure out WHY they love iphone users.

My wife, sadly, is still hopelessly wed to her iPhone.  A few days ago, it slid off a chair onto our deck; probably a 2 foot drop.  It landed on its back and the screen *on the front* has a nice hairline crack in it.  This was with a plastic body protector.  Apple's decision to focus entirely on aesthetics over functionality was just of many reason I will never own an iPhone again.

Does anybody remember the old Apple stores where they sold stuff like computers and software?  Years ago, Final Cut Pro was good enough that feature films were made with it.  Then Apple stopped developing it and went to iMovie.  Anybody serious making movies dropped Apple long ago.  They once made a decent server, and the same thing happened to it.  I have been watching how they transformed from a company that sold and made some really good stuff to one that was interested in iPhones.  They have one desktop computer, and you can't upgrade anything inside once you purchase it.  I used to buy their desktops because they worked without much thought.

My last few machines have been PC's including one that is running Proxmox (free) with 48 Xeon cores, 112GB RAM and 120TB of disk space.  I built it myself and it cost about the same as my last Mac desktop.  If/when the iPhone stops being cool, they are going to have to reinvent themselves or their goose is cooked.

I built a blazing fast PC for less than 300 euros.

Fuck store bought PC's

Have pirated copy of Windows 7 Ultimate which is bullet proof and Windows 8 and Windows 10 sucks.

Anyone with half a brain can build a PC for half of what you pay in a store, where its loaded with bloatware.

The near doubling of the stock from the stock split was insane. Especially during a time when Apple's Chinese competitors were rising fast.

Apple may claim they sell million upon millions of iPhones in China, but most are just channel stuffed sitting on shelves never to be sold. They are sold according to Apple, and the revenue has been booked. When the time comes Apple will just charge off the inventory and use it to offset taxes through their Double Dutch Irish Sandwich bullshit.

OnePlus, Xiaomi, Lenovo, ASUS, and others are eating Apple's lunch and decimating margins. The US financial press claims they Chinese companies aren't making any money but that is a blatant lie. The iPhone has a production cost around $100. Xiaomi is selling a phone for $300 and making at least $200 on each one.

The smartphone has become commoditized. A full price unlocked Moto E costs $149. They aren't selling these things for a loss.

The $600 smartphone is becoming a luxury item. $299 will become the max anyone will pay for an unlocked phone, cutting Apple's margin by 50-60%.

The list of superior devices to the iPhone for half the cost grows larger every day. Even Sony is selling an unlocked phone that destroys the iPhone spec wise for $400.

APPLE'S TIME AS THE SMARTPHONE KING IS OVER.

Funny how all those "middle class channel checks" via packed Apple stores in the mall didn't quite pan out as expected.  Problem is nobody went inside to see it wasn't buyers, just legions of consumers confused about how to use what they bought.
