The Dow Just Made the Largest Roundtrip Rollercoaster EVER

George Washington's picture

It’s not your imagination …

Dow

The U.S. stock market just took the largest roundtrip ever.    Specifically, in the first 3 hours and 40 minutes of trading today, the Dow posted the largest intraday swing in history:

Intraday

This came right on the heels of the largest weekly increase in volatility in history.

In percentage terms, the October 1987 "Black Monday" was much larger - 508 pts was 22.6%.  This Monday's move was around 1/6th of that.

Nice headline grab, tho, Georgie.

You guys have went completely crazy on these ads. It's now 15m into the page load and STILL the ads continue to load. Here's what I see in the status bar:

4. rev.lanistadds.com

5. ad4.liverail.com

Ad infitum. 20m to load all the ads.

For last 2 days, the traffic has been higher, obviously.  Prior to yesterday, adblock and Malwarebytes gave me hours of reading pleasure on this site.  My firefox is crashing too - with 2,000 MB disk space and this Dell, a relatively new computer.

I surf the net on a 1o year old dell and this sight gives me no problems.

I run firefox with the following add ons - NoScript, Adblock plus, Blur, self-destructing cookies, and HTTPS everywhere. Then make sure you do not have more then one virus software running in the background and you should be golden.

The scam is that it's a market, rather than a rigged hustle to get your cash. Why is the identity of the large buyer secret? Are the marks expected to presume the large buyer will always appear to save their "investment."

Trust is an opiate. Hope, with its induced stupor, is their bait, sucka.

Technically you may be right, but history was in the making.

We closed setting no records, down only 588 points, but the point is why?  Is it because the markets held up?    I think rather it's because the system is more orchestrated and the numbers less accurate then in times past.  The market didn't hit the 7% losses that would have shut it down because it was not allowed to.

The Dow was down over 6.5% in the first 30 minutes. if the PPT had not stepped in at that point the market would have been closed by 10am.

It was truly a historical day!

Go cashless, but what will the black market do?  Of course the natural thing to do would be to legalize all immoral behavior; how hard to go from justifying murder in a womb and selling parts to redefining marriage...who cares about the family since having them only provides much needed shade for the next generation.

IF YOU LOOK AT THE REVERSAL ON THAT CHART ...

there are really only two possibilities ...

1.  Someone (a single player) held an enormous SHORT position, and then cashed it in. Because such a sharp turnaround can't come from a lot of positions.

OR

2.  SOMEONE invested a HUGE amount of $$ into the S&P futures (and NASDAQ, incl. AAPL) to overcome the huge negative selling trend.  And by the word "huge" .... we mean HUGE!!  The reversal in momentum of that market is staggering.

So take your pick.

I would be willing to bet that only a special group actually had their buy order catch the bottom of Apple at $92.  My guess, the same lucky group sold minutes later at $102, making a cool 10%, and magically having no problems getting there trades executed with precision timing.

When someone asks you "who they are", this is them....  They are the puppet masters who never loose and are never revealed.

"Frankly I think your nuts for participating in this sham at all."

Yup, I don't like it one bit. Boredom finally got the best of me, was tired of looking at an IRA in a stagnant money market fund. Took my chances and rolled the dice. Oh well, I tried and the account will live to fight another day. Only lost about ten percent, with plenty of time to try and make it up. Like I said, I'd cash it out if it weren't for the goddamed AMT. I really hate practicing "wealth management" in a rigged market. Especially since the thought of actually retiring someday is a sick joke. Stay healthy my friends!

Anyone have a nice bowl of capitulation this morning for breakfast? Sold a couple of long positions in some dividend stocks in an IRA brokerage account, just going to get crazier from here on out. Stopped the bleeding. Maybe if I see a major bottom in October I can try and make up some of the losses. I want to cash it out to buy moar stuff/pay off some debt but the freaking taxes will put me into AMT territory next April. Oh well, go long IRA slave muppets.

Frankly I think your nuts for participating in this sham at all.

I don't know how many of you were able to watch this morning's action live but the way it rocketed to 6.5% losses in just minutes, worse then futures had indicated, and then made an abrupt bounce was the PPT hitting the panic button.

There was no way they were going to shut down the market if they could save it.  Without that intervention the Market was headed far past 7% losses, which means true value, without intervention, is down not up from here!
