More like the 82nd year of FDR. If you were alive during the Reagan Administration, you may have noticed that he was not a socialist like Obama and the Clintons.

Whatever Obama and the Clintons are and have been, Socialists ain't it. Crony Capitalist, absolutely. Willing to use the Welfare State apparatus to prop up the corporate status quo, yes indeed. But in no way have the Clintons and Obama ever been inclined to put the State in charge of the means of production. That's what Socialism is. They may have different corporate sponsors than Reagan did, or the Bushes, but that doesn't make them Socialists.
Of course, the US has done nothing wrong to bring this upon themselves?

I must admit, the thought has occurred to me as well...
I think it's only a matter of mannerisms. Mussolini was an intellectual and Trump isn't. Mussolini actually fought in a war, and Trump hasn't. Trump has to at least pretend to adhere to the tenets of modern liberal (small "L") finance capitalism, and Mussolini most certainly did not do that.
But watching Trump bloviate live, with the sound off, is pretty eerie.
