Virginia Reporter, Photographer Killed During Live TV Report; "Disgruntled Employee" Gunman Tweets Attack, Shoots Himself
Vester Lee Flanagan - aka Bryce Williams - the gunman who killed two journalists during a live broadcast in Virginia has attempted suicide and is "in a very critical condition", media report.
He was dismissed in 2013, after gaining a reputation for being "difficult to work with," according to the station's management.

As The Daily Beast reports,
In the tweets, Flanagan hinted at possible motives for the shooting. He tweeted about filing an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission complaint and alleged that the reporter had made racist comments. “They hired her after that???” he tweeted. The slain producer, he claimed, complained to HR about him after working together one time. His final text tweet boasted about filming the attack.
ABC News said it recieved a 23-page fax from Flanagan and turned it over to authorities.

A gunman has opened fire on a TV news crew conducting a live broadcast from Virginia shopping center on Wednesday. Police are reporting three victims, though their conditions are currently unknown. The shooter is still on the loose.
Video from the scene appears to show a crew from local TV outlet WDBJ7 being attacked in the middle of a live report at Bridgewater Plaza in Moneta, Virginia.
A reporter was interviewing a woman at the shopping center when the gunman walked into view, firing what sounded to be at least six shots.
The station has confirmed the incident involved one of its crews.
Police are looking for the shooter and hope to soon release a description of the individual to the public.
Nearby Bedford County schools are currently on lockdown as police search for the shooter, ABC 13 reported. The Virginia Department of Transportation has reported a high-priority situation, announcing the closure of Route 122 in the area.

Of course it was a disgruntled employee or acquaintance, who probably had an issue with the reporter that got shot. Who else would know to show up at 6:45 am for a scheduled interview? The third person who was not shot probably gave a detailed description of the shooter so he will be caught soon.

Video down now, but it looked strange to me. He appeared to target the female reporter, there is smoke or blood splatter coming off her. looks like smoke. And then he targets the cameraman. It looks like the camera is set down, those things are heavy (I used to be a cameraman).
It looked like the female began running after she was shot, and then he shoots the cameraman and goes for her again. But the woman in the middle is completely unharmed. Could very well be real, but I'd have to watch it again. Definitely a raging person and not a pro.

The shooter prepared for this event. He must have known he was going to kill a guy holding a video camera, so he donned a mask. He watches TV, so he also donned beige latex gloves to keep fingerprints off of the murder weapon. He (or she) donned heavy, baggy clothing in what must have been warm weather to conceal the true form of his body. He could have whacked them at any time after they arrived on location, but waited until the middle of the interview when he knew the murders would be at least in part caught on TV, maybe even on a live feed. He left the interviewee alive, so this wasn't about building a body count.
I'm not prepared to conclude yet that this was a love triangle gone bad. Maybe it was a psychopath who wanted his carefully planned murder spree televised. That is not too much of an extrapolation beyond the many freeway snipers who obviously want to see and hear about themselves on the evening news.
Those musings are the ones that got sent to my brain via my eyes and the got filtered through my brain and into my fingertips based upon my own personal bias ( I think people are smart, even dumb ones, and even psycopaths).
Lawyers are fond of saying that "there is nothing more unreliable than eyewitness testimony", and the truth inherent in that proverb is on display here big-time today. Commenters tell us the shooter was black, he was white, he was a Mexican illegal immigrant, he was a man, he was a gang member (the infamous VT gang?). What their eyes saw goes through the same filtering process and comes out showing more about their innate prejudices than it does about the facts.
Or, more disturbingly, it reflects the mentality that every event, no matter how tragic, is a crisis that cannot go to waste, and which must, instead, be immediately transformed coldly into a debating point to support a political agenda.

It always blows my mind the way people here savage the goverment stats on economic issue (unemployment, inflation rate, etc). But put some crime statistics up, especially showing how violent and evil minorities are and they're quoted like it's the book of Psalms.
Here's the difference. Financial, economic and job stats can be shown to be factually incorrect, and anecdotal evidence supports the cynicism. The crime stats are supported by anecdotal evidence. Feel free to take an unarmed stroll through East St. Louis sometime, especially at night. Or,maybe Detroit? Certain darker parts of Chiraq? Joseph Conrad wasn't describing Amish communities when he wrote the Heart of Darkness.
