The One Chart The Military-Industrial Complex Is Hoping Mean Reverts
While most of the world will be hoping the following chart never (ever) mean-reverts to its previous historically devastating highs, there is one group that is 'banking' on it... The Military-Industrial Complex...
Source: @MaxCRoser
Of course, as Ron Paul recently explained recently, the current enemy of choice is Russia:
"The people have to have the propaganda convert them into someone they hate, so they can hate...so you had to have a Saddam Hussein, an Ayatollah, or somebody else, and right now it’s Russia."
Paul goes on to note that while the Cold War may have fueled the need for American military spending, its end has left Washington without a clear enemy to demonize. The US government is now spreading disinformation about subjects like the Ukraine crisis in order to paint Russia as a villain.
“All of a sudden the Cold War’s over, and there’s a full explanation of what’s going on in Ukraine, and it’s not all the Russians’ fault, I tell you,” Paul said. “But we have to have an enemy to keep on churning this.”
“Could you believe that maybe the military-industrial complex might have something to do with this?” he added. “Because they probably don’t deliberately say well this started a war, but this started some aggravation which ended up in a war much bigger.”
But we give the last word to Dwight Eisenhower...
Nothing has changed in 54 years... in fact it has just got worse.

Wasn't it Eisenhower that let all the loonies out of the asylum?
That was Ronnie Raygun that cut Federal funding to the asylums.
Needed the cash to fund Star Wars.
To be fair, he wanted to shoot the loonies off into space.
Those Canadians drive me nuts. Ehhh?
Nope, It was the courts and nobody taking responsibility or fixing the problem.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deinstitutionalisation
I'll buy that argument.
I don't think Reagan wanted to intentionally put veterans on the streets.
It was a different time... People didn't get trophys for finishing second.
The United States was respected, and Reagan was offering opportunities.
Let's parallel our current choom smoker in chief?
He was instrumental in defunding mental institutions while Governor or California.
"Over 30 years ago, when Reagan was elected President in 1980, he discarded a law proposed by his predecessor that would have continued funding federal community mental health centers. This basically eliminated services for people struggling with mental illness.
He made similar decisions while he was the governor of California, releasing more than half of the state’s mental hospital patients and passing a law that abolished involuntary hospitalization of people struggling with mental illness. This started a national trend of de-institutionalization."

There are pros and cons. On the con side, people who genuinely need specialised, mental help get stuck in old-peoples' homes (or just left to struggle on the street, as is more often the case in the US). But, on the pro side. At least all those "hysterical" women who brough "shame to the family" (by refusing to be a sex slave for some rich friend) are no longer institutionalised against their wills, tortured and experimented on.
+1 --I have personal experiance with someone who was institutionalized for catching her husband in a tryst. She was given shock treatments till she believed the adultery never happend and when she developed seizures from the shock treatments she was given phenobarbital and dilantin. She was pretty much unable to make any desicions after that --like which shoes to wear--she died of liver failure not to many years after that at the age of 52----sad case-- happend in the 1950s
The funding of the VA has grown about 7X in the past 12 years and the care gets worse. Great pensions and salaries for VA people though.
Personally, I preferred the lunatics in the asylums instead of writing in the editorial pages ;-)
Or running for POTUS, no matter which party they emanated from.
Truman actually opened the doors, knowing that there was no way the government could support veterans.

Thanks for the link I/J.

The next war between Great Powers may be the last war. Both the US and Russia have over 7000 nuclear weapons each, enough to destroy the world many times over.
The US MIC has been busy killing people since the end of WW II:
This study reveals that U.S. military forces were directly responsible for about 10 to 15 million deaths during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and the two Iraq Wars. The Korean War also includes Chinese deaths while the Vietnam War also includes fatalities in Cambodia and Laos.
The American public probably is not aware of these numbers and knows even less about the proxy wars for which the United States is also responsible. In the latter wars there were between nine and 14 million deaths in Afghanistan, Angola, Democratic Republic of the Congo, East Timor, Guatemala, Indonesia, Pakistan and Sudan.
But the victims are not just from big nations or one part of the world. The remaining deaths were in smaller ones which constitute over half the total number of nations. Virtually all parts of the world have been the target of U.S. intervention.
The overall conclusion reached is that the United States most likely has been responsible since WWII for the deaths of between 20 and 30 million people in wars and conflicts scattered over the world.

Better sentence structure would be "as Ron Paul recently explained". I tend not to take seriously articles with bad grammer, as it is entirely probable that they also contain bad content?
Rev, -- is you a rabid schoolmarm?
No, just a grammar Nazi.
Can't refute the article with cogent logic, so falls back on an ad hominem attack on someone's grammar.
could just be rabid
The irony of a guy bemoaning grammar while using a question mark at the end of a statement.
Says someone who can't even spell grammar.
Fuck the MIC! And I'm X-Army Officer.
The thing to do is declare a shadow war on eagles, fish and tortoises for profit...get the EIC going, where government dams rivers & emulsifies fish, bulldozing tortoise burrows and beheading and vaporizing eagles with windmills & solar ovens...now we're talkin...it's all for the good of hot Starbucks coffee in the morning and your i-shit apple pie, come on...lol.
That's an Environmentalist Industrial Complex (pronounced ik for icky) for the uninformed ;-)
Well, we're half way there.
We do have a war on invasive species going on across the US.
With open season on snake fish on the east and west coasts, zebra mussels in the Great Lakes, boa constrictors in the Everglades, zebra fish of the Carolina coasts, asian carp in rivers across the US, and endless non-native plant species, and we haven't even touched on the war on heirloom plants and vegetables by GMO's.
I think if they keep couching in terms of "saving the planet" they have a real chance of victory! ;-)
We will have to kick the whole planets ass in order to save it!
But what is really still happening is neglect of the 535.
The single biggest mistake of the citizenry; major regret is the forecast.
Tyler, can you say: "Deterrent" ?
what if you threw a party and no one came?
The Great Powers have been vanquished. Subsumed into the Borg-hive of the NWO. Centuries in the making.
The dampening curve indicates that all that remains is the last battle...absorption of the individual.
Unless the target awakes and the coil breaks so the MIC Law of Physics can gain no purchase
They will win, eventually. Or did you think the 20th Century history of psychological, drug and torture experiments in all nations was simply for fun? They spent a century testing us and our responses to best learn how to control us, but control us in such a way that we choose to submit to them.
The next step is to bring about the bilbical prophecies - which they're already working on. They will bring them about because they are, in the end, carrying out the basest desire of human kind. They want to point to the works of their hands and say, "see - I am God".
The crowds are leaving the bars in Manhattan. Been there done that.
They realized, en masse, that only a total moron would pay $16 for an off-brand house martini.
Enemies! Enemies everywhere!
(but not in DC, please don't look at DC, never think about DC, DC is your friend, DC is love, DC is not your enemy, DC would never hurt you, DC doesn't spy on you, DC loves you)
Incidentally DC isn't the enemy. DC is but a symptom of the work of the enemy.
I mean, just compare the Royal Annointed Kenyan, or the Hildabeast cunt-lizard, to Eisenhower.
It makes you want to puke violently into a pail until next Thursday.
All this white space on my screen is calling out for more gibberish. Ah that's a little better with blue bonnet on it
This stinks like a pair of armoured trousers after the Hundred Years War.
