Rewriting The Rules - Trump's Rise Is Unprecedented

Tyler Durden's picture

In May, when the Register last polled, 27 percent of likely Iowa GOP caucus-goers viewed Trump favorably while 63 percent regarded him unfavorably.

In the new poll, which was released Saturday night, Trump's favorable number is at 61 percent and his unfavorable at 35 percent.

As The Washington Post's Chris Cillizza exclaims,

"In the almost 20 years I have spent following politics closer than
close, I've never seen anything like the total reversal in how Trump is
perceived by Republican voters. It is, quite literally, unprecedented."

The Trump candidacy has rewritten - or at least smudged - lots of the rules of conventional politics. He says things that would derail other peoples' candidacies. His shyness about specifics on, well, anything would be seen as a lightness bordering on cluelessness in other candidates. His pick-a-fight-a-day mentality would be seen as overly aggressive and tonally off if anyone else in the field did it.

But, of all the amazing things that Trump is doing - whether he realizes what it is he is actually doing - his ability to totally turn around his image is the most remarkable. It's not something we've seen before.

It's different this time...

20 years seems like a long time when you are, say, a 40 year old and think you've got it all figured out.
Just because pretty store clerks don't give you a second look anymore and your hairline is starting to recede hardly makes you the voice of experience.
Check back in with that "sage" commentary in another 25 years or so..

I wouldn't say it's unprecedented. 0bama won by reaching out to to Americans that were sick of the status quo. He struck a nerve with his declarations against deficit spending, lobbyists, bankers and Wall St. and claimed he would clean it all up. We all know how that worked out. During his second run, he "evolved" on issues like gay marriage, pandering to another sector of society to increase his popularity.

That's why I'm not sold on The Donald. He is striking a chord with many Americans but I am not 100% certain that he is sincere. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I admit that I like his approach and that he doesn't back down from what he says but that doesn't mean he would make a good president. JMO.

The Deep State runs the United States of America for their own power and benefit. The panty waists in elective offices or political appointees are nothing more than mindless POSED* / POSER** automatons who are owned by the Richie Rich Oligarchy who have the talent to read prepared speeches from a TelePrompTer.

I'm absolutely and irrevocably fed up with the rigged elections that keep putting evil traitorous asswipes like the Clinton's, the Bush's, the Obama's, the Harry Reid's, etc., into office. Elections will never restore the American Constitutional Republic. Only The Second American Revolution by the American People will do that.

No it isn't.  He had name recognition as a TV personality and "businessman", he had no "image" in a political context.  These political consultants are as blinded by their models as global warming hysterics - or Federal Reserve governors.  When your math conflicts with common sense, sometimes it's the common sense that's correct.  NOT always, science is the process of re-educating your common sense.  But good science is hard, and good political analysis is not well done by robots.

>He says things that would derail other peoples' candidacies

Not really.  The *public* was never offended by his comments in the first place, just the nancy-boy MSM reporters who now average so far left they can't even see the center.

What has derailed other candidates who said things like Trump is that those candidates always backed down when attacked by the media and Dems, so branding themselves as weak.

Trump does not back down when attacked by the media and Dems about his statements.  In fact he goes further on the attack.  Which gives people a reason to believe he means what he says and will do what he says.

Don turned that into Billions while his Father was 6' underground.

AND, he went bankrupt FOUR times. So much for excellence.

Again, no he did'nt. He NEVER went liquidation.

He used legal channels to recover his ass when an investment of his went south. Big difference. For example when his casino ran into problems he sold 49% to Citibank for 500m and finished the project.

He did not go broke. Over half of a pie is strill better than no pie.

This happens frequently when bldg. 800m projects.

Foreign policy in a Trump administration will be a nostalgic riot. We're already foolishly sticking our noses in the hornet's nest that is the Russian sphere of influence, by fomenting the coup that overthrew the democratically elected government of Ukraine last year.

As we edge closer to the Russian border in a Trump administration, Putin will say nyet! Trump is tough! He'll go forward anyway. Not understanding history, Trump will not understand that he has just made the ultimate "deal." He has just signed civilization's death warrant.

Trump is letting a little hope for us and that is a HUGE difference!

Is Trumpism the New Nationalism?
Patrick J. Buchanan

He will send all illegal aliens home and restore the traditional value of U.S. citizenship by putting an end to the scandal of “anchor babies.”

One never hears Trump discuss the architecture of our rules-based global economy.

Rather, he speaks of Mexico, China and Japan as tough rivals, not “trade partners,” smart antagonists who need to face tough American negotiators who will kick their butts.

They took our jobs and factories; now we are going to take them back. And if that Ford plant stays in Mexico, then Ford will have to climb a 35-percent tariff wall to get its trucks and cars back into the USA.

Trump to Ford: Bring that factory back to Michigan!
He has called Vladimir Putin a Russian patriot and nationalist with whom he can talk. He has not joined the Republican herd that says it will cancel the Iran nuclear deal the day they take office, re-impose U.S. sanctions and renegotiate the deal.

Trump says he would insure that Iran lives up to the terms.

While his foreign policy positions seem unformed, his natural reflex appears nonideological and almost wholly results-oriented. He looks on foreign trade much as did 19th-century Republicans.

Nah. Your comment is just a slur with no connection with reality.

Illegal aliens are not immigrants.  Trump is anti illegals and anti use of H1Bs with low slaries to put Americans out of jobs and drive down US wages.  Neither constitute being "anti immigrant" as opposed to anti destructive policies about border management.

Nor is he a socialist unless you figure criticizing the existence of privileged tax rates for hedge fund managers who create no real wealth but benefit from Fed policies while extracting wealth from the rest of society to be socialist.

And since you apparently have a problem with someone being anti corruption, you are outing yourself.

But this will be but the beginning of sorrows. For the great whore of Wall Street, that false profit of all wickedness and lust, shall smite down upon the golden trumpet a grievous blow, and shall install a flatterer who shall lead widow's 401K's astray, and frighten livestock.

And hairpieces everywhere shall rejoice and say, "What wonders we have beheld! Blessed is the glory of the necromancers and blessed are their loins! We shall rule and rein and put to the sword any who stand against thee!

But the travails were of 15 months long, and no one knew why, and many did fall asleep, or did lose themselves in wayward thoughts, and in banal sins of the flesh involving nachos and beer, hoping the bullshit would fold up on itself, and just fuck right off.

But the necromancers were jealous of their beers, and did plot to take their nachos, so did distract them with useless blather about nothing at all, and then did sneak in and scoff down their nachos.

And a great darkness did fall on the land as the mighty day of November, in some other year entirely, for some reason, did approacheth. And great boredom apathy and much righteous disgust did poison the times ..."
