Russian Military Forces Arrive In Syria, Set Forward Operating Base Near Damascus

Tyler Durden's picture

While military direct intervention by US, Turkish, and Gulf forces over Syrian soil escalates with every passing day, even as Islamic State forces capture increasingly more sovereign territory, in the central part of the country, the Nusra Front dominant in the northwestern region province of Idlib and the official "rebel" forces in close proximity to Damascus, the biggest question on everyone's lips has been one: would Putin abandon his protege, Syria's president Assad, to western "liberators" in the process ceding control over Syrian territory which for years had been a Russian national interest as it prevented the passage of regional pipelines from Qatar and Saudi Arabia into Europe, in the process eliminating Gazprom's - and Russia's - influence over the continent.

As recently as a month ago, the surprising answer appeared to be an unexpected "yes", as we described in detail in "The End Draws Near For Syria's Assad As Putin's Patience "Wears Thin." Which would make no sense: why would Putin abdicate a carefully cultivated relationship, one which served both sides (Russia exported weapons, provides military support, and in exchange got a right of first and only refusal on any traversing pipelines through Syria) for years, just to take a gamble on an unknown future when the only aggressor was a jihadist spinoff which had been created as byproduct of US intervention in the region with the specific intention of achieving precisely this outcome: overthrowing Assad (see "Secret Pentagon Report Reveals US "Created" ISIS As A "Tool" To Overthrow Syria's President Assad").

As it turns out, it may all have been just a ruse. Because as Ynet reports, not only has Putin not turned his back on Assad, or Syria, but the Russian reinforcements are well on their way. Reinforcements for what? Why to fight the evil Islamic jihadists from ISIS of course, the same artificially created group of bogeyman that the US, Turkey, and Saudis are all all fighting. In fact, this may be the first world war in which everyone is "fighting" an opponent that everyone knows is a proxy for something else.

According to Ynet, Russian fighter pilots are expected to begin arriving in Syria in the coming days, and will fly their Russian air force fighter jets and attack helicopters against ISIS and rebel-aligned targets within the failing state.

And just like the US and Turkish air forces are supposedly in the region to "eradicate the ISIS threat", there can't be any possible complaints that Russia has also decided to take its fight to the jihadists - even if it is doing so from the territory of what the real goal of US and Turkish intervention is - Syria. After all, it is a free for all against ISIS, right?

From Ynet:

According to Western diplomats, a Russian expeditionary force has already arrived in Syria and set up camp in an Assad-controlled airbase. The base is said to be in area surrounding Damascus, and will serve, for all intents and purposes, as a Russian forward operating base.

In the coming weeks thousands of Russian military personnel are set to touch down in Syria, including advisors, instructors, logistics personnel, technical personnel, members of the aerial protection division, and the pilots who will operate the aircraft.

The Israeli outlet needless adds that while the current makeup of the Russian expeditionary force is still unknown, "there is no doubt that Russian pilots flying combat missions in Syrian skies will definitely change the existing dynamics in the Middle East."

Why certainly: because in one move Putin, who until this moment had been curiously non-commital over Syria's various internal and exteranl wars, just made the one move the puts everyone else in check: with Russian forces in Damascus implicitly supporting and guarding Assad, the western plan instantly falls apart.

It gets better: if what Ynet reports is accurate, Iran's brief tenure as Obama's BFF in the middle east is about to expire:

Western diplomatic sources recently reported that a series of negotiations had been held between the Russians and the Iranians, mainly focusing on ISIS and the threat it poses to the Assad regime. The infamous Iranian Quds Force commander Major General Qasem Soleimani recently visited Moscow in the framework of these talks. As a result the Russians and the Iranians reached a strategic decision: Make any effort necessary to preserve Assad's seat of power, so that Syria may act as a barrier, and prevent the spread of ISIS and Islamist backed militias into the former Soviet Islamic republics.

See: the red herring that is ISIS can be used just as effectively for defensive purposes as for offensive ones. And since the US can't possibly admit the whole situation is one made up farce, it is quite possible that the world will witness its first regional war when everyone is fighting a dummy, proxy enemy which doesn't really exist, when in reality everyone is fighting everyone else!

That said, we look forward to Obama explaining the American people how the US is collaborating with the one mid-east entity that is supporting not only Syria, but now is explicitly backing Putin as well.

It gets better: Ynet adds that "Western diplomatic sources have emphasized that the Obama administration is fully aware of the Russian intent to intervene directly in Syria, but has yet to issue any reaction... The Iranians and the Russians- with the US well aware- have begun the struggle to reequip the Syrian army, which has been left in tatters by the civil war. They intend not only to train Assad's army, but to also equip it. During the entire duration of the civil war, the Russians have consistently sent a weapons supply ship to the Russian held port of Tartus in Syria on a weekly basis. The ships would bring missiles, replacement parts, and different types of ammunition for the Syrian army."

Finally, it appears not only the US military-industrial complex is set to profit from the upcoming war: Russian dockbuilders will also be rewarded:

Arab media outlets have recently published reports that Syria and Russia were looking for an additional port on the Syrian coast, which will serve the Russians in their mission to hasten the pace of the Syrian rearmament.

If all of the above is correct, the situation in the middle-east is set to escalate very rapidly over the next few months, and is likely set to return to the face-off last seen in the summer of 2013 when the US and Russian navies were within earshot of each other, just off the coast of Syria, and only a last minute bungled intervention by Kerry avoided the escalation into all out war. Let's hope Kerry has it in him to make the same mistake twice.

Putin might not be a tribe member (though I wouldn't discount he could be a 'shadow' member), but he is certainly in league with the NWO bankster globalization scheme:

And since China is in the news lately, a bonus selection:

All that is happening right now has been scripted. The sooner we understand that, the sooner we can turn it all around.

This redefininggod guy has an interseting shtick. Unlike most, who take everything in the first degree, he is capable of thinking dialectically. However, he also seems to dabble in numerology and seems to be tunehd into occultism. He refers to the rulers of our world as the "occulted powers". He's big on symbols, images, and such. While this approach does bear fruit, what you won't get is a well-researched fact-based analysis à la Engdahl or Tarpley. He represents Putin as just the good cop in the good cop/bad cop theater in which we, the ignorant masses are being played by the occulted powers.

I don't totally buy into this guy, with his "much love" closing salutation. He could very well be a plant by some alphabet agency. He comes across as just an average Joe, but his analysis and website are very slick.

Read Tarpley.net to really see what is going on in Syria. Have a listen to World Crisis Radio. Tarpley is very convincing in discussing the sinister role of retired general John Allen working hand in hand with ISIS czar Erdogan.

First order of business in Syria is to closr the Turkey-Syria border. To do this, Erdogan must be stopped from bombing the Kurds. This will choke off ISIS and they will wither on the vine according to Tarpley.

The question is what role does the Orthodox Church play in Russia?

They sure could have done more to stop the Leon Trotsky's and other New York City, London and Berlin Bolsheviks who murdered 25 million Russian Christians.

I saw many people wearing the cross of St. George while there.  They do take a lot of pride in their churches.  I've stood in the doorway of the left here.  They were being a film crew in and it was not visiting hours.  It was in the 50s and raining like it would never rain again.  Still, impressive.  The place had been built before communism but they tore it down during "Soviet Times" and this became the site of that famous year round swimming pool.  The biggest in the world I think.  After "Soviet Times" they rebuilt the church and it is active to this day.

The Kremlin complex is essentially an amalgamation of churches with a fortress.  Seeing all of Napoleon's cannons was really impressive.  There were plenty of stories of Putin and the importance of the church in his view.

All said, I'd say the church has much more sway than the Communist Party or any other besides those actually in power or connected to the bank.

It is always the bankers who finance wars.  Even religious holy wars.

Putin is a Russian. They do not have much love for the Brits nor the Jews.
They are their own creatures and have their own superiority complex. They know that they beat the Germans ass in WWII and have not been victimized by politically correct bullshit like Europe.

They believe incorrectly in that case.  Nobody beat the Germans' ass in WWII by themselves.  The Germans were defeated because they actually did have four fronts if you count the Atlantic.  The only comparables are the US and Britain.  With that said, dollar for dollar and pound for pound I'd take Russian tanks over all the rest today.

Ask them how their first offensive went.  You know, the one they going to launch 17 days after the Germans beat them to the punch.  You don't seriously think the Germans took millions of prisoners in the first weeks of the war because the Russians weren't already mobilizing for their own attack do you?  Heck, according to Wiki, 2M Soviet POWs starved to death during the invasion.

It was only a death by a thousand cuts (casualties, resource scarcity, threats in every direction,....) that Germany went down.  Nobody kicked Germany's ass.  It took everyone to kick Germany's ass.

Horse shit.

The vast majority of the german forces were lost in the russian campaign.  Yes, there were a few small armies guarding the conquered territories, but it was minor.

The normandy invasion wasn't until june 1944 -- nearly the end of the war.  All the us did was mop up the scraps remaining after the russians chopped hitler's army to pieces.

The major motivation for the US-UK to actually launch an invasion of Normandy was to keep the Red Army from getting there first.

If the French revolution defined the 19th century (even though it happened in the 18th), and the Spanish Civil War defined the 20th, I'd say the Syrian Civil war will define the remainder of human history, which is to say, about the next ten years.

Never has war so clearly biased the genes and character of a nation.

And that is modern France.

Most people do not understand why Obama was put in the White House, to stop the neocons and to clear the Pentogon of those who side with them. The major clue was when Obama was interviewed after the Ukraine coup he clearly stated that the White House had worked out a deal without violence but the coup took place anyway. What he was saying is that the neocons, (Nuland and the State Department) went behind his back. Like in Benghazi. The neocons were running guns to terrorist. When they were attacked the White House refused to help and in fact ordered the military to stand down. This was another operation that was going on behind the White Houses back. Now take Turkey and the deal with the State Department, (plus one neocon general), for a no fly zone. This was also done behind the back of the White House. The first thing Obama did was to order all Patriot Missle sites to be de-activated and moved out of Turkey, including those owned by several NATO countries. Secondly White House officials met with Putin. Russia then placed 6 MIG SU-31s in the country. They can fly very low and very fast and are used to support the Syrian military. Now he moved actual troops into the country. This has been all agreed to by the White House to stop the neocons. Another example is what was going on in Ukraine yesterday. The Right Sector is at it again, killing one Ukrainian solder and wounding 110 as the Parliment voted on the autonomy for Eastern Ukraine. The neocons, working thru the US Embassy in Kiev, want back all of Ukraine and are willing to use violence to get it. Again there is a battle taking place in Washinton behind the scenes that, those trying to stop the neocons, (who have taken over a large % of US foreign policy and those who are opposed to their constant wars and destruction. This is why the White House made the deal with Iran. If the neocons in Congress vote it down, the US will be isolated in the world as all other countries have approved the deal and are in fact doing business in Iran now. The US business community are just figuring out that they are going to lose out on future opportunities, (not only in Iran), but globally if the US is isolated!!! Life is not always as it appears, especially on the neocon controlled media.

Why intervene now and why so late in the Assad regime's game?  As ZH itself has posted couple articles about 2 weeks back, Assad is/was on his way out.  So why now when a Russian intervention could have been more helpful earlier?   I think Russia got the final OK to intervene from China and also because they knew this was it for Assad. Either now or never.

Assad is weaker, Iran is more desperate, and both will be even more beholden to Russia for the relief.  While you are out, don't jump in and waste your own lives and equipment any earlier than absolutely necessary.  China's crumbling, the west if teetering, and SA are in dire financial straights while just committing to a ground invasion in Yemen.  Timing is important to get the most bang for the least buck.

This event does help convince me that Putin is not on the side of the banks but then again maybe it is all part of the act.  He sure does seem clever and able to outmanuever the west given the cards he's been dealt (Russia actually has a very small population).  All the same, he didn't call me up and give me tips on how to take advantage of this situation before hand so back to the Kardashians.

Oh say, I had an idea how we all could help fight ISIS now that they've declared a monetary war on US.  We should band together and buy up as many of their gold and silver dinars (or whatever they call them).  This will take them off the market and render ISIS fiscally impotent since they won't use the USDs they get back since that is a sin or something.  Serious, we might pick up lots of cheap gold and help fight the bad guys at the same time.  This is a patriotic WIN-muthafuckin'-WIN if ever there was one in the history of all things that we can do for our country but not for ourselves.

Let's take ISIS down for defeat.  Buy their gold now!  Do it for your country.  Do it for the children.  Sacrifce your dollars for worthless gold and bring peace and good will to this world.

Zero accountability - Cool hyposis. However, prophesy is statistical probability at the quantum level. There was a 99.7% chance we would arrive here. BARELY free will. The D-Wave quantum computer is mere years of calculating the weather at this ratio 50 years in advance. Christ said he wasnt of this world. The technology just one step above our own means we are still monkeys with a few tools. Unless of course against all odds we are the first 'intelligent' life in existence.

People don't bow down to Christ out of fear after this short but horrific sequence. They do it recognizing we have benevolent stewards that evolved so long ego that entering 4D for us soon is kiddy play and this few million years of evolution is a drop in the bucket. We KNOW time stops at the speed of light. Time is just simple motion.

No joke, science is now showing us man is 50 or so years from evolving to energy, a new paradigm. Christ was right and real. It doesn't mean we must convert to beliefs that were either wrongly interpreted as written or condemn other beliefs. Christ said the world belongs to all men. Funny, that we are realizing it just before then end of our evolution. But first one last real nasty wave to endure of evolution.

If Iran can take down one of the most advanced drones (RQ 170) , it's curtains for reapers.  There are many areas where US drones cannot operate and Syria is about to join that list.

It's a safe bet that the entire drone communications paradigm has been compromised.  The irony is that it was Mossad stealing the technology and selling it to Red China who now cooperate with Russia. Isn't that what happened to the F35 program?  BTW ...which ironically will provide Red China with a viable stealth fighter long before that turkey ever flies.

Out of all the shit that could happen the loss of electricity is one that bothers me the most.  I have diesel and propane for backup generators and still this will only carry me for 90 days or less. I am trying to do solar but it is a bitch as far a complexity and cost.  I hope this is a gentle, stair step collapse that gives me more time to prepare and position my family for survival, and is not a  push over the cliff with a hard landing.  I need more time to prep.  And to all of you guys who say "bring it on",  fuck you! I have been working for two years to get my family ready and still do not feel that I have protected them in the way that they deserve.  You have no idea of how much hardship, misery, tears and heartache are ahead.  If you had any heart at all, you would want the day of reckoning to be postponed as long as possible.  This whole mess is so sad, so sad. And to the psychopaths in D.C and N.Y. who created this mess - fuck you in the neck!

Electricity isn't really necessary.  Learn to live without your god damned tv.  Concentrate on food and water resources, and don't waste all you money on solar.

I guess Russia is ready to escalate. They've been modernizing Russian defenses with S-500 anti-missile defense systems. They have sold their S-400 systems to China, and they have the S-300 plus on their way to Iran. They've upgraded their Nukes and have a brand new fighter jet to clear the skies. Fortunately, the U.S. spends more then the rest of the world combined on warmongering. I don't know what the future holds... but " a future"  seems to be an iffy proposition at this point.

Do you really know what taking the Lord's Name in vain is?

It is declaring yourself to be one of the Lord's children...when you are not.

Now that is vanity. That is taking His Name...in vain...for your own vanity.

The scripture says, and quite clearly I might add, that you shall know them by their fruits.

And you spew hatred..which is a fruit of iniquity.

And you spew war...which is not peace..and your support of that is not a fruit of the spirit.

You delude yourself, ANTICHRIST.

Jesus gave the Christian the commission to go out into the World and spread the Good Tidings that there is salvation. He taught love, joy, and peace...Not hatred, anger and strife.

Oh yes He did declare that He came not to bring peace for brother would rise up against brother and sons against their fathers.

So since He did not come to provide peace then why did He come? It was not to bring about War. That will happen anyway.

But the REASON He came was to provide SALVATION, through the shedding of His blood on the cross at Calvary. And you MISS THE MARK.

And many Christians died, willingly I might add, during the Roman occupation of Palestine in the Coliseums across the Roman Empire. Not ONCE did the early Christians make a military revolt or stand against Rome. NOT ONCE.

You proclaim yourself a Christian as you take the Lord's Name in vain...May God damn you straight to hell, SATAN!!!

Israel acknowledges it is helping Syrian rebel fighters

Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon said Monday that Israel has been providing aid to Syrian rebels, thus keeping the Druze in Syria out of immediate danger. Israeli officials have previously balked at confirming on the record that the country has been helping forces that are fighting to overthrow Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Yes, no shit?  The Druze have always played an important part in Israeli-Arab relations.

You said:  "Still can't get a ZH'er reason why the Jooos would want Assad toppled."

I provided you with an Israeli newspaper article in which Israel has admitted to aiding the Syrian rebels who are fighting Assad. I also provided you with former ambassador Oren's explanation as to why Israel supports the anti-Assad forces. Your request has been fulfilled.

Don't be purposely obtuse.  HUMIT 101...providing medical treatment provides a ready opportunity.  Hell Hamas leadership gets authorization to seek treatment in Israel.

Perhaps I am too stupid to understand that air strikes against Syrian Army positions and aid to anti-Assad forces do not constitute an effort to topple Assad but that stupidity is not purposeful. I truly believe that those actions are acts of war and not humanitarian in nature.

Perhaps I am also gullible to believe Ambassador Oren when he says that Israel supports the Sunnis in an effort to block the Shiites. Do you think he is lying?

Syria is a predominately Sunni, not Shite population, but is ruled by a minority sect, Alawites (Baathist Party).  Also, support for the Druze, doesn't mean they are supporting ISIS/ISL and Oren didn't say anything but talking about the Druze.  Air strikes have been against arms shipments destined for Lebanon.  And those air strikes aren't anything new either.  I recall a large air force battle erupted between Syria and Israel when Israel was attacking 'non Lebanese' military positions along the Syrian Lebanese border some years ago.  If I recall, several dozen MIG's were shot down.  Point is, Syrian (Assad) Israeli relations have always been a razor thin trip wire, but on balance the Syrian Israel border has been quite quiet since 1973. BTW, ISIS has claimed responsibility for firing rockets into Israel from Sinai.
