Three US Citizens Sentenced For Conspiracy To Start A Revolution Using WMDs

Tyler Durden's picture

While the US has had a surge in violence over the past several years, its defining feature was the generally chaotic and uncoordinated nature of each such - usually lethal - act.

That changed over the weekend when the FBI announced three US citizens - Brian Cannon, 37, Terry Peace, 47, and Cory Williamson, 29, - were sentenced to 12 years in prison for "conspiring to use weapons of mass destruction in attacks against federal government agencies. The defendants planned to attack critical infrastructure while motivating militia groups in other states to rise up and join them in removing government officials who they believed had exceeded their Constitutional power."

Specifically, the three sentenced men "participated in Internet chat rooms frequented by militia members and others with a shared anti-government ideology. During the chat room conversations, Cannon, Peace and Williamson discussed starting a revolution against the federal government by conducting an attack aimed at the infrastructure supporting the Transportation Security Administration, the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Administration." The complaint further notes that "according to their conversations, their goals included forcibly removing government officials who the defendants believed acted beyond the scope of the U.S. Constitution."

And this is how the FBI summarized the bust...

“In this case, anti-government ideology and rhetoric morphed into dangerous extremism and led these defendants to arm themselves and travel to a meeting to pick up pipe bombs and other explosives intended for attacks,” said U.S. Attorney John Horn of the Northern District of Georgia. “The attacks planned by the defendants, while rare, posed a serious threat to not only the safety of our public servants, but also all other members of the community.”

... confirming yet again that when the NSA has to "get involved", it does so admirably.

Meanwhile, any aspiring revolutionaries may want to consider avoiding cell phone communication and certainly never discussing plans for the second American revolution on public chat rooms that can be hacked by even 10 year-old "North Korean" hackers, not to mention the most sophisticated electronic communication interception system ever created.

The full FBI complaint is below (link):

Men Sentenced for Conspiracy to Use Weapons of Mass Destruction

WASHINGTON—Brian Cannon, 37, Terry Peace, 47, and Cory Williamson, 29, have been sentenced for conspiring to use weapons of mass destruction in attacks against federal government agencies. The defendants planned to attack critical infrastructure while motivating militia groups in other states to rise up and join them in removing government officials who they believed had exceeded their Constitutional power.

“This case illustrates the FBI’s commitment in preventing attacks instead of responding to their aftermath,” said Special Agent in Charge J. Britt Johnson for the FBI’s Atlanta Field Office. “The convictions and now federal sentencing of these individuals on conspiracy charges again represents that the juries and courts understand this shift in the law enforcement mindset in dealing with individuals or groups that wish to bring harm to the public or those who serve the public.”

According to U.S. Attorney Horn, the charges and other information presented in court: In January and February 2014, Cannon, Peace and Williamson participated in Internet chat rooms frequented by militia members and others with a shared anti-government ideology. During the chat room conversations, Cannon, Peace and Williamson discussed starting a revolution against the federal government by conducting an attack aimed at the infrastructure supporting the Transportation Security Administration, the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Administration.

According to their conversations, their goals included forcibly removing government officials who the defendants believed acted beyond the scope of the U.S. Constitution. During one of the online conversations, Peace said that they would launch the attack between February 1, and Feb. 15, 2014. He encouraged the militia members to review guerilla warfare tactics, accumulate supplies and prepare their families. By Feb. 1, 2014, Cannon and Williamson had moved to Georgia and were living with Peace at his Rome, Georgia residence.

Cannon, Peace and Williamson targeted the infrastructure supporting their federal agency targets because they believed this would reduce the amount of unnecessary casualties and make it difficult for the government to respond to their attack. The men decided to launch the first attack in Georgia to prompt militia members in other states to begin attacks in their respective states.

Unbeknownst to the defendants, another participant in the chat rooms became alarmed at their plans, informed the FBI of the attack against the government, and agreed to assist in this investigation.

On Feb. 8, 2014, Peace asked the cooperating witness to provide twelve pipe bombs and two thermite devices for use in their attack. Peace said he wanted the pipe bombs designed for “maximum fragmentation” and thermite devices capable of penetrating the engine block of a military-grade armored vehicle. Peace, Cannon and Williamson then made plans to meet with the cooperating witness after the pipe bombs and thermite devices were constructed.

On Feb. 15, 2014, the defendants, armed with numerous firearms, drove from Peace’s residence to meet with the cooperating witness at a location in Cartersville, Georgia, to pick up the pipe bombs and thermite devices. Prior to their arrival, the cooperating witness was provided with 12 inert pipe bombs and two inert thermite devices. The three defendants were arrested as they were taking possession of the items. While their online conversations reflected attacks on federal targets, the defendants planned to use the thermite device at a local police department.

Cannon has been sentenced to 12 years in prison to be followed by five years of supervised release and perform 100 hours of community service.

Peace has been sentenced to 12 years in prison to be followed by five years of supervised release and perform 100 hours of community service.

Williamson has been sentenced to 12 years in prison to be followed by five years of supervised release and perform 100 hours of community service.

Cannon, Peace and Williamson were convicted of the charges on May 26, 2015 after pleading guilty.

This case was investigated by the FBI. Assistant United States Attorneys Tracia M. King and Ryan K. Buchanan prosecuted the case.

Wait wait wait... if "Pipe Bombs" constitute "Weapons of Mass Destruction".... then the war on Saddam Hussein was entirely justified from the beginning.

never heard of them, but i bet they had some compelling arguments.

OK.  So what about the bankers WMD and racially motivated cop killings accompanied by open threats?
And they all get to run around free.|
Needs to be a bit more breadth with respect to who constitutes "dangerous"

There you have it. Another "plot" concocted by the FBI.

~"...anti-government ideology and rhetoric morphed into dangerous extremism and led these defendants to arm themselves and travel to a meeting to pick up pipe bombs and other explosives intended for attacks,..."~

Wanna' guess who was going to "supply" them with "pipe bombs and other explosives"?

This is another case of village idiots getting sucked into a DHS sting. 12 years? Serves their sorry asses right. If a revolution does come, these clowns will be sitting it out still be doing time.

Find disgruntled moron

Talk disgruntled moron into blowing something up using an "informant"

Give disgruntled moron "fake" bomb

Jump out and claim to be keeping everyone safe from disgruntled morons you give fake bombs to

Rinse and repeat.

It's all too commonplace.

Encourage the disgruntaled with taking conversations of "frustration" and escalating it to action.  Encourage and nurture -- romanticize - the idea.  Make idea sound very easy to implement via connections who have the supplies.  Arrest them when they go to put YOUR idea in motion.

Right out of the FBI entrapment playbook.

nmewn's picture

Yeah...but they made a deal to go buy/pick up pipe bombs? Pretty stupid if you ask me, they're as easy to make as water balloons.

Just no smoking and watch the static electricity.

Element's picture

You're going to get a visit ... soon.  ;-)

At least Sadam had real WMDs ... oh ... wait

I'd struggle to call a pipe bomb more than a dangerous sort of fire cracker, but in the world of hysterical homeland security USSA hype-until-you-drop, they're apparently right up there with thermonuclear weapons!

Let's hope the Russians don't get any, or we're all screwed.

By the way, there was an attack with a WMD in Kiev yesterday ... far out huh!? ... silly Ukies said it was only a 'grenade'.

The USA just gets stupider and stupider every day, how much more stupid can it possibly get?

nmewn's picture

I guess WMD's got reclassified to pipe bombs over the last eight years or so...lol...Element, the stupid is so thick you can cut it with a knife over here, provided of course that you can explain why you need a knife to cut through the stupid...and go through the mandatory waiting period & background check ;-)

Element's picture

I just can't get my head around how a country can be stupid enough to allow politicians to fuck with the public for 18 months before a Federal election as they do.

It's seriously pathological, the entire society is off its rocker. And I can't believe there are no spontaneous mass demonstrations in front of major TV networks and Dem and Repub HQ's to demand for them to have some decorum, and shut the fuck up for at least another year.

1. "While the US has had a surge in violence over the past several years..." This statement is demonstrably false using the FBI's own statistics.
2. Were these guys entrapped?
3. Does the existence of "right wing" militias scare me? Nope.

Let this be a lesson to everyone;

1) Trust no one on the internet

2) .gov gets a copy of everything.  Anything you write - assume someone at Langly is actually reading it.

I dont buy it - these 3 guys could be a set up, a dog and pony show...

Dame Ednas Possum's picture

Perhaps.

Either way...hedge accordingly.

Buckaroo Banzai's picture

Do these guys even exist? Or just more Crisis Actors in a whole new kind of play. This whole thing smells like its 100% staged, "pour encourager les autres." After all, why even bother going to the trouble of entrapment when you can just invent it out of whole cloth?

With names like "Peace" and "Cannon", it's like they are just laughing at us with mocking glee.

AnonG-Man's picture

If people were to plan a revolution with Militia's backing, one would be smart not to communicate via Online channels or via Cellphone networks for that matter, unless using burners.  Ever since around the Oklahoma bombing incident, however, Militias were blamed for what happened -the reputation of Militias have been reduced with constant misinformation, demonization, and potential entrapment/setup situations as this one may or may not be.

In matters of violent law-breaking, or merely evading taxes, trust no one you haven't known for ten+ years.

In other words, when conspiring ("for real") against the US government, try real hard to stay out of prison.

Nothing in this message is intended to promote or condone actual violation of any law, and may God richly bless those Americans serving our nation in the NSA.

I think there may be some creep in the definition of "Weapons of Mass Destruction."  If a pipe-bomb is considered a WMD, then half the men in the country who grew up.. well.. being a boy.. would probably be guilty of using "WMD"s, similar to the pipe bombs the US Government used against Japan.

Quick story about chlorine....  My wife likes to put those awful chlorine tablets in the "upper deck" of the toilet to keep the bowl clean (because swirling a brush around the bowl once a week for 15 seconds is too much work).  So, unbeknownst to me she puts FOUR of the f-ing things in the rarely-used downstaris toilet.  This shit tears up EVERYTHING in the toilet, most notably the rubber "flapper" inside and, guess what, it starts to leak.

So, I buy a new flapper and pop off the lid to replace the old one.  Two seconds later my eyes, nose and lungs are burning.  I stumble backwards out of the small bathroom and land on my ass.  It hurt, but the coughing and burning were a much higher priority at that moment.  I get the hell outta the area, still stumbling into things and start to flush upstairs with fresh water, still coughing.

Everything looks white and coudy for the next couple days.  Everything smells like "burnt doggy hair" for about a week.  The coughing stops about that time. too.

Me and the wife had "words" about WWI "mustard gas" and how I'd prefer not to die in my own bathroom from it, etc.  She agreed to stop using the chlorine tablets.  I agreed to clean the toilets.

Smiddywesson's picture

She put four of those big cookies in there?  OMG!

You just got a snoot-full in an enclosed area.  My shower is travertine, a pourous type of stone, so when I want it real clean like, I pour straight bleach on it, sponge it around, and race out the door holding my breath.  Four hours later, that bad boy is nice and sparklin.  You have to crack the windows and stay off the crapper for a few hours, but it works like, well, poison gas I guess.  I got zapped a few times, but not enough to constitute a risk to my life.

large_wooden_badger's picture

"I agreed to clean the toilets."

I see what she did there. My old lady would call that a "victory". I think she's a domestic terrorist, of the household sort.

Miffed Microbiologist's picture

You are fortunate a guest didn't pee in that toilet. This would produce chlorine gas which can react explosively with other substances.

As a side note, in the lab we must send out the waste from our instruments for " fish testing". They take our sample and dilute it to a certain ppm and place it in a tank of fish. If after 3 weeks there are no more deaths than the fish in the control tank, we may flush the waste down the drain. Two of our instruments failed so we must collect that waste for hazardous disposal. Interestingly to note, in cali the chlorine content is so high in most municipal water sources all aquariums must be treated to remove it or the fish will die. We found this out the hard way. Now we are on a well and I have fish in there that have lived for 15 years without any water adjustment.

I hope your wife has come to the conclusion toilet cleanliness is not worth brain cell annihilation in her husband.

Miffed;-)

Stop reading if easily bored because this is some boring domestic shlt.

A couple of weeks ago our water started smelling and tasting very chlorine like – couldn’t figure it out. Called water company and jumped through 100 hoops. Short answer to long story. Chlorine tab in tan was backing up into mani line because of faulty no return valve. Forget the chlorine taste. When those valves fail what else can back up into system? Just a little light digression…

Sounds like some WMD's getting made in your Shitter by the wife. Consider that her dabbling in making Chlorine Gas Bombs has just made you a co-conspiritor and that you are now on the FBI Threat List.

Of course when I take a shit, my wife cordens off the Bathrom for 2-3 hours till it clears.

Those were loads of fun.  Unfortunately now, that is also classified as a chemical weapons attack, and therefore falls under the definition of a WMD.
