Guest Post: Trump Can Win The GOP Nomination
Submitted by Bruce Bartlett via The Fiscal Times,
To save myself from answering this question repeatedly, these are the thoughts I have had about Trump since he became a presidential candidate, which were partly expressed in a Politico article over a month ago.
First of all, I think his support is firm and shows no sign of diminishing. He has already weathered storms such as his criticism of John McCain that would have doomed any other candidate. Anyone who thinks he is the current version of Cain, Bachmann, Santorum or other nutcase that briefly led the GOP field in 2012 is dead wrong.
Keep in mind also that in primary elections, one doesn’t need majority support to win in a field with multiple candidates. And intensity of support is often more important than the percentage. Support for the designated favorite of party insiders is often exaggerated in polls and I think Trump’s supporters are unusually motivated.
Second, Trump’s positions on the issues are largely irrelevant to his success. None of his supporters care whether a wall across Mexico is remotely feasible or that he regularly flip-flops on the issues. What he is selling is attitude and a certain fascistic form of leadership. He will get things done, his supporters believe. And it’s less important what he will do than that he will do something.
Ironically, Republicans brought this on themselves in two ways. To begin with, they grossly oversold what they could do just with control of Congress. The Republican base really seems to have simply forgotten about the presidential veto or the Senate filibuster. They seem to have thought all they had to do was pass bills with a simple majority and they would magically become law. How else to explain voting over and over and over again to repeal Obamacare. It makes no sense unless my assumption is correct.
Additionally, Republicans are suffering from the gridlock that they themselves caused. We all know that nature abhors a vacuum, but I think it abhors gridlock as well. That has always been the appeal of fascism and it would be very foolish to believe that Americans are immune from its attractive qualities of getting things done that need to get done. And let us not forget that Trump is talking about genuine problems even if his solutions are simplistic or even wrongheaded.
My third point in Trump’s favor is his willingness to fund his own campaign and ability to run such a campaign on the cheap. By the latter, I mean that he started his campaign with close to 100% name ID and he has the amazing ability to get massive free media exposure any time he wants it. The mainstream media seem powerless to ignore the newsworthiness of anything he says about anything at any time in any place. In lieu of a traditional campaign staff, all Trump needs are the PR people he has long employed, a scheduler and a pilot for his plane.
Related to this, I would note that Trump has a very powerful ally in the form of talk radio. Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin have been especially strong in their support for Trump, in part because Trump’s base and theirs are one and the same. It is extremely valuable to any candidate to have such a megaphone at his disposal, whipping up support, attacking his enemies, explaining away his mistakes etc. This also explains why Trump can treat Fox News with the disdain it deserves. It helped create the Trump monster, thinking he could be controlled, and discovered to its horror than he cannot.
Fourth, as a consequence, the traditional means of controlling an out-of-control candidate are not available to the GOP leadership. They cannot deny him media exposure or money or organizational support because he doesn’t need them. Moreover, the anointed GOP nominee, Jeb Bush, has turned out to be a remarkably poor politician. His ineptness makes me wonder how he ever got elected dog catcher. And the rest of the GOP field lacks the name ID or support to catch up. But, importantly, because several have deep pocketed supporters, they too can afford to stay in the race indefinitely, keeping the field divided to Trump’s advantage..
This means it is very unlikely that the stop-Trump forces can coalesce around one candidate. The field will remain divided until the end, meaning that Trump needs no more support than he has now to win the nomination. As I have said repeatedly, the key to understanding Trump is not the ceiling on his support, but the floor, which appears higher than the ceiling of all the other candidates.
Lastly, I think many Republicans simply delude themselves that Trump is not a serious candidate who cannot, for some reason, get the nomination. I say, don’t underestimate his ego, which we know is and always has been enormous. If he can win the GOP nomination, why shouldn’t he go for it? I would also point to the example of Wendell Willkie, a very Trump-like candidate who won the GOP nomination in 1940. Then as now, he took advantage of the fact that as the anti-government party, Republicans are unusually attracted to non-politicians.
I am not yet ready to predict that Trump will be the GOP nominee, but I am disinclined to bet against him. I honestly don’t see how any of his current opponents can beat him. I think his odds of winning the nomination are better than even. Whether he can win the general election is another question that I will discuss at a later date.
Final note - the Democrats’ growing disarray plays into Trump’s hands because it reduces the importance of electability as a prime requirement for the GOP nominee.

Trump is the perfect "none of the above" candidate.
'None of the above' is the perfect 'none of the above candidate'
The support for this dickhead is just proof that the lunatics have taken over the asylum.
DON'T FUCKING VOTE.
If you do, you are agreeing to go along with the corrupt game. It also makes you complicit in the crimes committed by government.
I'm waiting for the day when voter turn-out is 1%. At that point, none of these self-interested, would-be 'leadiers' could claim a mandate to govern. At that point things might change for the better.
He won't be any worse than Bush or Clinton.
And I want to see the R establishmnet crushed and humiliated.
You really think that if Tronald Dump gets in the establishment will be crushed and humiliated???
You are fucking insane.
Don't forget, voting for the lesser of 2 evils is still voting FOR evil.
With all of the "After 6:00 PM" ZeroHedge whining about Trump, I have yet to see any serious suggestions as to who
would be a better candidate. Like most liberal scum, they whine and complain, but are either scared to associate their
real preference with their name, OR they really have no idea.
Liberalism is a disease.
>Trump announces his run
>"He won't be taken seriously"
>Trump 10%
>"He's not a serious candidate"
>Trump 20%
>"People are supporting him as a joke"
>Trump 25%
>"He's just a sh-shill for Hillary r-right guys?"
>Trump 30%
>"It's just a fad"
>Trump 40%
>"His numbers will begin falling within the month"
>Trump 60%
>"He can't hold on until the election"
>Trump Republican nomination
>"He has no chance vs Hilary"
>Trump president of the USA
>"He will be impeached soon"
>Trump god emperor of mankind
>"It's a fad"
>not voting for Trump just to see what happens
Fuck it man, you only live once.
Who cares. It makes no difference.
Study: The US is an oligarchy
http://www.planbeconomics.com/2015/09/the-united-states-is-oligarchy.html
Trump wins in a land slide. Takes all 50 states. The econmy and market tank at just the right time and he wins by the largest margin ever. People will just realize that politicians are not to be trusted and go with The Donald. It won't even be close.
It’s almost comical thinking about a Trump presidency in which the GOP leadership would likely be more of an adversary than the Democrats..
Unless the voters get wise and dump Boehner and McConnell.
(Well, they DID get rid of Eric Cantor.)
This is a rather sad revelation, but Trump, along with his ego, are probably the last, best chance the USA has of any kind of soft landing in the coming collapse... Even this will be too little, too late as the USA has passed the tipping point a long, long time ago... The wheels were set in motion for this disaster on 9/11/2001...
Trump is the textbook example of a Black Swan event. Nobody saw this total gamechanger coming, but in retrospect, we all should have.

"I still can’t believe we left Iraq without the oil." -The Donald
All you need to know...
The oil was never for "us" implying USA. It was for the pro war oligarchs. The pro war oligarchs did not leave without the oil either. It's been there for them whether in the ground or not and as made available through the current proxy of the month.
US American dysfunctional political normal meet Trumponian disequilibrium.
Trump is owned by the Debt-Money Monopolists. That's why he gets Debt-Money Monopolist media blitzes. Bill Still was true establishment opposition and you probably never heard his name.
Remember, the establishment used to Trump to question BankstObama's birth certificate and then come out and valid it because his "experts" said it was good. No evidence, just an appeal to authority claim. He then got a big deal in Chicago.
He's run by the same people that run Hillary.

Trump can win it ... if he stays in?
If they let him stay in!

"The Donald Singlehandedly Wrecks the Republican Party and Upstages Every GOP Presidential Candidate"Who would you rather elect than Trump?
Some bankers bitch boy who is already bought and with Wall Streets puppetmaster hand up his ass?
Does anyone really care or put any stake in what these candiate assholes spew?
There are no issues, only handlers and lobbyists, and Trump is the most interesting of them all, by far.
Jeb Bush? Beacuse the first two were so wonderful?
Hillary fucking Clinton?
So vote for the Donald, he's the only choice we've got.
It is VERY telling that the liberal side of the Trump/republican surge is Bernie Sanders.
What could be more opposite? He is an admitted socialist, with horrific socialistic plans (admittedly not hardcore commie, but along the lines of FDR).
What is telling is that Trump/Sanders have in common -- they both represent rejection of the jerks that the mainstream parties thrust at us.
The electorate is telling the two parties to stuff it and give us real leaders. Too bad we have to reach so far afield in either end. A good middle-road common-sense non-party candidate would sweep.
Trump is acerbic and arrogant and wrong on a few issues, but he says things a lot of people are thinking but are reluctant to vocalize for fear of socialist political correctness repercussions.
That having been said, you can’t do much worse than the last four lying charlatans that have occupied the Oval Office.
If he actually is a shill rather than a disruptor, then we can pretty much kiss everything goodbye.
The Debt-Money Monopolists left selling you $4.00 gas instead of $1.00 gas. But Donald isn't going to direct your mindshare to that reality!
Trump is quite possibly the ideal candidate for this point in American history. This country is one giant mind-fuck. A fake economy based on fake money, fake wars for fake democracy, and a fake political sytem with fake "opposing" parties...
Trump is perfect for this role because he's been the star of a "scripted reality" program for the past decade. He's famous for being famous, like Kim Kardashian or that guy who yelled "Fuck her right in the pussy!" He's as close as we'll get to putting a professional wrestler in the White House (no offense to Jesse Ventura).
Sadly, we'll never have a President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho. But if we play our cards right, we could have a President Trump.
I would vote for Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho. Given all his shortcomings, he maintained his civility, integrity and class in the face of idiot mob rule. He was a true leader. I don't see any of that with Donald Trump. He is a shyster and anyone who falls for him deserves what they get. USA #! babay
Who cares if Trump can win. The man offers no significant change from the establishment that his supporters are FED up with. The only real chnage can come from ending the Fed's schemes. Only one candidate is serious about it, has the track record of being anti-fed, and even has it among the top of the issues on his website.
Straight from his website:
The Federal Reserve was created by Congress and is supposed to be overseen by Congress. The Fed is now in every nook and cranny of banking with unprecedented regulatory powers and no Congressional oversight. I believe the Fed should be auditedand the regulatory power should be placed back under the control of Congress.
A complete and thorough audit of the Fed will finally allow the American people to know exactly how their money is being spent by Washington. For too long, the Fed has been operating under a cloak of secrecy. The American people have a right to know what the Federal Reserve is doing with our nation's money supply.
I will continue my fight to audit the Fed and restore transparency and fiscal sanity to our nation’s checkbook.
https://www.randpaul.com/issue/audit-the-fed
I hope y'all saw that comment was from Rand Paul, nkot from Donald Trump. Rand Paul is being marganilzed for his views on the all-powerful Federal Reserve. That is why it important for those of us that understand how the Fed has been robbing Americans for generations, to stand up and be heard.
I'm supporting Rand and his liberty message (especially the message of sound money and constitutional government). I am donating half of every candle with a silver coin prize sold (https://www.etsy.com/shop/ScentSavers?ref=hdr_shop_menu) to Rand Paul's campaign. Every candle sold now through labor day will be donated on 9/7 to support the Rand Paul moneybomb on September 7th.
This is not a scam or spam. I will be losing money on this. The IRS takes so much of my money, that I do not have any extra to donate to worthy causes of my choosing. This is my way of helping the anti-fed, anti-irs message get out!!!
The Fed is a losing issue for most voters. It's too technical and remote for most people. And like it or not, he looks like a little dweeb. People are voting perception.
I agree most Americans are too preoccupied with reality TV, which of course is programming to a NWO reality.
We need to educate people on a daily basis, of the federal reserve. I think most people would understand that it is stupid for our government to hand over its power to coin money to a private bank. Then the government borrows from the bank to pay for its programs. The bank doesn't haven't anything to loan out so loans out from an account with a zero balance.
The more government programs (social and corporate welfare and warfare) there us the more our government borrows from the Fed and the more we pay in interest.
People also understand the IRS. Isn't it strange that we survived until 1913 without the IRS? Isn't it also strange that 1913 was also when Wilson signed the Federal Reserve Act?
People can understand this, the message just needs to get out!
And isn't it also strange that the IRS came out against tea party groups (which were inspired by Ron Paul, the godfather of the teaparty, who spent his life fighting the Fed). It is proven that the IRS targeted the tea party. Maybe it's because they are gaining traction on ending the Fed???
I understand where you're coming from....but isn't it telling that while Ron Paul correctly and brilliantly wanted to END THE FED......his son is only talking about 'auditing' that unconstitutional monster? Sure, Ron pushed for an audit himself while in congress, but only as a primary step toward eventual termination of their tyrannical charter. We all saw where that went despite overwhelming support.
Nah, Rand is just another political reptile with a light dusting of his father's greatness.
For the record, I don't support any of the POTUS candidates in this clown-show.
The poverty and serfdom created by the Debt-Money Monopolist controlled Federal Reserve System will not be technical nor will it be remote.
My people perish for lack of knowledge.
The courts ruled against a GATA FOIA request to detail the nature of the gold swaps the Fed was conducting with other banks and CB’s (most likely notable with the BIS).
Those dealings need to be made public to reveal the extent of the manipulation in the gold market.
Trump will not win the nomination. Polls and primaries do not matter. Jeb! is going around with "envelopes" right now and is signing up delegates.
It's already over, but for the love of G-d, please tune in!!!
But he might run 3rd party to divide the vote and hand the election over to the woman he financially supported all those years... Benghazi Hillary.
Oligarchy/Corporatocracy. John Perkins did a great service to humanity. I was there; I lived it; it's true, all of it.
Good for you, Publicus. Great satire.
Summing it all up: Trump’s ahead. That means he probably won’t win, right?
I'm an optimist.
What do I have to lose? Any of the others is a guaranteed stauts quo. The worst that will happen is he's as big a liar as the rest. So, there's no downside.
Zombie Mother Teresa aint running, so if the choice is among evils, I'll go with lesser every time.
Pessimists are rarely disappointed.
As for "The worst that will happen is he's as big a liar as the rest. So, there's no downside" I would have to say that ALL there is in the upcoming US elections, for those who are un-connected, is downside.
Trump changes everything. He already has.
The businessman as politician was inevitable - a manager who can take the reins once all the kids are done making a mess. Part of the effort to marginalize him is to send a message other would-be challengers to SQ power. That is one reason why he must be supported. He may not be ideal, but he has enormous strenghts to balance against his weaknesses, and he's a bird in the hand. If he is on the ballot the turnout will be unprecedented. If Jeb is on the ballot it will be depressed and probably divided among three candidates, even if the third is not Donald. There is so much popular resistance to Bush that he is like a political physics experiment - any signficant action he takes will muster a massive reaction. Only by fading away does he find peace and does the GOP stay alive, for better or worse. Maybe Bush is just what we need. But I will support Donald, as it seems like there is little to lose, and it is important for people to see how the GOP establisment handles him. They need to see the rotten animus towards 'outsiders' that dominates the party establishment.
Actually, Trump should run on the promise to "rescind all of Obama's executive orders". If Obama's agenda is so great, why can't the be actual laws, you know, with congressional approval?
Actually, while campaigning out west in states that vote after Super Tuesday (so yes, he will be in the race that long no matter what yoy hear from the media) Rand Paul said that one of the first things he would do is eliminate all executive orders, not just those from Obama. That includes the ones as far back as FDR!
Agree, the "Establishment" won't be harmed if Trump gets elected, but the "REPUBLICAN establishment" will get crushed.
I hate the Democrats for what they stand for, but I hate the Republicans more for what they DON'T stand for. Fucking Republican Party can go fuck itself with a big old fuckstick.
If you want to know what the Republican Party stands for at any point in time, just look at what the Democrats stood for 30 years earlier and you'll have a pretty good idea.
Did I mention that they are a bunch of worthless fucks?
And also, they are a bunch of worthless fucks.
Worthless fucks indeed. They controlled both houses and the presidency for six years and did NOTHING about immigration and tax law. They did nothing about much of anything that has afflicted us for years.
They do not want the responsibility of action and are VERY content holding a minority. It still provides many of them with the power and prestige of office, and they can lament endlessly of the injustice of it all....their powerlessness against the progressive onslaught. They can scream loudly and maintain a low fire under their "constituency" demanding ever more money for elections and INFLUENCE as Americans must BUY protection from progressive policies. The progressives are pleased with this arrangement as well as they get their way on most things while being able to blame any downside on the hapless and obviously hypocrite republicans.
Both Democrats and Republicans are a creation of the Debt-Money Monopolists.
As a result, the National parties and their presidential candidates, with the Eastern Establishment assiduously fostering the process being the scenes, moved closer together and nearly met in the center with almost identical candidates and platforms, although the process was concealed, as much as possible, by the revival of obsolescent or meaningless war cries and slogans (often going back to the Civil War).
...
The argument of two parties should represent opposed ideas and policies, one perhaps, of the Right and the other of the Left, is a foolish idea acceptable only to doctrinate and academic thinkers. Instead, the two parties should be almost identical, so that the American people can “throw the rascals out” at any election without leading to any profound or extensive shifts in policy. The policies that are vital and necessary for the Debt-Money Monopolists [America] are no longer subjects of significant disagreement, but are disputable only in details of procedure, priority, or method.”
Carroll Quigley, Tragedy and Hope
Trump/Sanders 2016!
If tDonald went 3rd Party with Bernie....it's all over. lmao
Make than Trump / Carly Fiorina 2016.
"DON'T FUCKING VOTE."
Jeb is out there telling Spanish speaking folk he’ll give them more freebies for the vote.
Frankly, Jeb Bush is colluding if you ask me.
Colllusion is a great word. They aren't immigrants, they are invaders.
What else would you call a group that floods a foreign country in mass, refuses to assimilate, demands the government treat with them in their own language and bend a knee to their native culture. And then to top it off demand tribute at the welfare office.
So, yeah, Jeb! is in collusion with foreign invaders.
Jeb is out there speaking Spanish to all the illegals his brother granted amnesty to.
Press1 for English Jeb!
Do Nothing: You almost make it sound like its some kind of noble and brave act. LOL Your'e just lame. You keep waiting for Mr or Mrs Perfect, Ill settle for an asshole that will turn Wahshington DC upside down.
Not.
Gonna.
Happen.
Trump is acting.
Just like Obama was acting in 2008 and 2012.
Kick another field goal, Charlie Brown, the polidiocracy depends upon it.
1. Vote with your money.
2. Vote when there is an actual establishment despised candidate (no media time, none!).
Schmucks vote for Bankster candidate on the left or Bankster candidate on the right
Yeah just like the last Election, conservatives didnt like Romney, nor i but he was the lesser of 2 evils. Apparently you support Hillary if you stay home because thats what WILL happen.
As I mentioned before and above --
2016 DON't VOTE - IT JUST ENCOURAGES THEM.
NOT "none of the above", either. Just crickets this time around.
Apologies for the repeat, this is way down in the comments!
logicalwoman, DON'T fucking tell me what to do EVER. Go FUCK yourself with Hillary's dick fuckstick!
Illegals out. That's who gets my vote. Fix one thing, just one.
I will never vote in a national election again until "None of the Above" is actually on the ballot where its votes can be quantifed. Imagine a voter turn out of 1% where 90% of the 1% vote None of the Above.
He's my hero.
Deez Nuts for the mu'fuckn WIN!
I'm running as Doz Nuts. Please vote for me!
good grief .....about time the trumpete brigade to show up. just needed my fix of stupid today and all is right.
Our dream is that the party of Alinsky, the (Dims), keep on imploding, with Trump throwing effective jabs and the occaisional devastating uppercut. Then, out of nowhere, Jesse Ventura jumps from the top rope delivering the crushing blow. The tag-team partner is thrown in the ring, against their will, to face Jesse. He simply tosses them into the crowd who waste no time tearing them limb from limb pandemonium oh the humanity feeble cries of "we demand a recount" OH HELL NO THIS IS CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN....
Hell, corporate America has been using Fed.gov as a front for decades.
All they're now doing, with Trump, is about to step up to the plate and make it official.
He is pretty fucking far from perfect anything, but he is as good a "none of the above" candidate as Mickey Mouse or Deez Nutz. But no better...
But he's not half the beagle that Snoopy is.
Trump might win, but he will not stop the collapse.
Nobody will stop the collapse. Stopping the collapse isn't gonna be a thing.
Trump is winning because of the collapse. Americans are frightened and Trump is their personal saviour due to identification with him on tv. Americans know Trump and they trust Trump to be Trump. That is the only solid thing Americans can hang on to right now due to the fact that everything is soon going to melt into thin air, and everybody knows it deep down. Bottom line is that in a World that Americans cannot trust they will immediately gravitate towards something, or anyone, that is most familiar. And this is all out of abject fear on the part of the American population. Mark my words, Trump's numbers will continue to dwarf others because Americans trust Donald Trump to stay true to character. And character is all America has left in this world.
I'd rather have Trump in control during the collapse then any of the others.
Adolf Trump? History is rhyming again.
http://philosophersforchange.org/2015/09/01/the-plague-of-american-autho...
I get your point, nopalito. cheers!
Who wants to stop the collapse?
Embrace the ‘The Great Credit Collapse”
Lock & load, baby. If you are a prey’in man, vote for the EMP!
On the other hand, he is the only candidate who might boast serious experience if called upon to take the country through bankruptcy.
McCain didn't even want to win last time. With that clown Palin.
if it wasn't for Palin, McCain would have lost 4-1.
not for nothing, against Romney, six million liberals that voted for Obama the first time, did not vote for him the second time-under reported.
McCain nor Palin either one were viable candidates.
McCain was the time before last. Try to keep up.
Author is whistling past the graveyard.
"Out of control candidate" my left nut. People are hating on the GOP. They have fielded a bunch of losers. I don't think Trump is even much of a "none of the above" play for that matter, people seem to like him. Probably because he's less of an obvious sell-out.
If you find yourself wondering whether to vote or not, think about this....
The last person who should be given power over others is hw who wants it.
OK, Mr 'down vote' tell me where I'm wrong.
(the first one only, please)
Yeah I've heard that. I tend to think that way myself. Much has been written about the sociopathology that is built into wanting to be in control, but I think a lot more is written about good people doing good things for the greater good. The difference I think is the times; those who crave power over all else tend to be cowards -- they preserve themselves first and watch for a chance to grab control -- so in really bad times the sociopaths run for cover while the best of us tend to hold forth and take the real chances. Because we have something to preserve and we are willing to save some of the world for others. A lot of good people -- men and women both -- end up dead because they wade into the fray. The goons sit it out making noise on the sidelines waiting for everyone to die for their principles. Or maybe I'm romanticizing.
Then why not Bill Murray? He tells it like it is. Fucking Americans are so fucking dumb and gullible. Exceptional my ass!
I don't think Bill Murray wants the job, actually. Or maybe I missed something in the news which would not surprize me at all.
Oh and just in case you forgot, Americans did elect an actor to President. After he was a favorite Governor of California. And then we elected another actor for Governor and Arnold did a fair job. So Americans are not afraid to go with people who can act like they know what the fuck they are doing. At least, we'll take a chance on them.
President Trump will sell the marketing rights for White House energy drinks to BRAWNDO! IT'S WHAT PLANTS CRAVE! That way there will be plenty stocked up for President Camacho.
Yeah, because he needs to keep his chia carpet alive.
Trump is the ONLY one running who mentions issues of concern to US!
Protective Stupidity
Is Marco Rubio, 'Made in the U.S.A.'?
Given Trump's nasty habit of engaging government authorities, via eminent domain laws, to seize people's homes and other property for his development projects, I would never vote for him.
That being said, the issue that launched Trump is amnesty for illegal immigrants. Whether one is for it or against it, it is a political hot potato. Republicans lost their Majority Leader in a primary election last year over the issue. They seem to be tone deaf on the issue but the reason is business lobbyists who are anxious to replace retiring baby boomers with new income earners and spenders. Unfortunately, Latin Americans have an advantage over other countries in getting here, so if the trend continues, the US will become a Latin American nation instead of a multi-cultural nation.
If he doesn't pull a " Howard Dean" or " John Edwards" faux pau (Mc. Insane & fancy underware[Romney] don't count) Bitchez
Quite possibly.
Trump is a product of zirp. His real estate is valued at an extremely high level because of leverage and very low rates. He will have numerous bankrupcies if rates normalize. Why nobody has asked him about the fed and zirp is ridiculous... but typical.
As soon as the democrats realize this I wonder what they will have the fed do.
So which other candidates are being asked about the fed and zirp?
point taken... it's a kardashian world.
Some don't need to be asked. ;)

Who can beat Trump?
TRUMP: Jeb Should Lead By 'Speaking English While In United States'...
Jeb should have led a long time ago, by leaving the gene pool.
You don't get an opinion, and quit pandering.
A real statesman or leader could beat Trump handily. However, the 16 dwarves aligned against him couldn't figure out how to walk through a revolving door without asking an advisor. So, Chump will probably sail to the nomination.
A trumpet has the highest register in the brass family. As a signaling device, trumpets have a very long history, dating back to at least 1500 BC. They work by blowing air through almost-closed lips, producing a "buzzing" sound that starts a standing wave vibration.
Yea that sounds like Donald.
When I was a kid in UK - long time ago - trump was another word for fart!
Who could have known how apt the term would become after all these years!
Why are you here "logicalman'? You're Non-Vote blasts a very special 'I wanna play cards with you guys, but I don't want to play for real money. I just want to play for 'fun'"
He is probably here because the world is more dangerous whenever the US thinks it is still exceptional. Your national ignorance affects the rest of the world.
Seems like a perfect description of me passing gas. That sounds like Donald too.
"Republicans brought this on themselves in two ways. To begin with, they grossly oversold what they could do just with control of Congress. The Republican base really seems to have simply forgotten about the presidential veto or the Senate filibuster."
The Republicans brought this on themselves by being so obvious that they use the presidential veto and Senate filibuster as an excuse to get nothing done, just as the Democrats use the same devices. The sheep are starting to figure out that it's a charade. Nothing gets done because the oligarchs both parties work for like the status quo. Fortunately for Trump, the sheep haven't figured out (yet) that he is part of the same machine. The first clue should be that he is a TV personality.
Can you blame them for trying?
The Repugnicants have walked in lock-step for decades despite not getting any fulfilled promises from the officials they elected; they thought they could do it with impunity to eternity!
Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum first appeared in literature -- a story for children, purportedly, I suppose -- decades ago! We still have yet to get it. Dr. Seuss tried again, with Thing One and Thing Two. Still no understanding evident, even among many commenters here on ZH. TPTB have excelled at complexifying each (s)election cycle to entice you to step into the quicksand of "choice".
DON'T VOTE -- It just encourages them!
I recommend considering the above line as a major, "third-party candidate" this time around. NOT "none of the above". Crickets.
Thank God none of our politicians have big egos, just Trump.
"What he is selling is attitude and a certain fascistic form of leadership." Well we already have fascism, even if the sheep don't see it.
No one who regards himself (or herself) as an libertarian (or 'conservative') should be a fan of Donald Trump. Trump is an (eminent domain) thief who has a very nasty (and anti-property rights) habit of engaging government authorities to seize people's homes and other property so that he can acquire it for his development projects, whether or not the rightful owner wishes to sell.
In a well-documented 1990s case, Trump engaged Atlantic City authorities to condemn the home of an elderly widow (Vera Coking) whose property Trump sought for a casino parking lot (for limousines). With help from the Institute for Justice, Mrs. Coking was able to thwart Trump's theft of her home.
Trump's gang is also said to be closing in the property of Michael Forbes, a Scottish farmer whose home and 22-acre farm Trump covets for a golf course. Forbes stands to be evicted from his home, along with his family.
Doubtless, many others have relinquished their property to Trump in the same way because they didn't feel they'd win or the legal cost was unbearable.
Never mind the obfuscation of the issue via claims that the owner of the seized property receives 'fair market value' or 'just compensation'. Ascertaining the value of real estate is largely subjective, especially when the property is a home from which the owner is evicted, requiring significant upheaval in his or her family's life. I know of a couple in their 60s who lost their home which they had lived in for decades when it was taken for a highway. They were so distraught, they both died within months. Some victims of eminent domain 'only' lose their front yard when a road is widened so they receive just a pittance, even though their home is devalued and less liveable.
Eminent domain is bad enough when property is taken for 'public' use. When someone, perceived to be a 'businessman' instigates it for business use, it undermines support for free market capitalism. So libertarians, please get the word out on Trump. He's a thief.
David Wooten,
If only The Donald wanted my property at twice its value, I would be thrilled no matter what he wanted to turn it into. Trump is a powerful businessman and admits it. The rest of those thieves on Wall Street with a back to the WH are using my tax dollars to bail out themselves like Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan.
At least Trump uses his own money. Am not saying I support him-just saying he doesn't pretend to be what he is not.
Now imagine a trade deal with China/Japan/whoever...
"If only The Donald wanted my property at twice its value"
If Trump wants your property or anyone else's, he should buy it instead of forcing you, or other people, to sell. To some people, however, their home is worth a lot more than the market value. I guess your wife and kids wouldn't mind being uprooted.
BTW, if you owned a dog and the government said they wanted your dog to test a cancer drug on it, would you just hand your dog over for fair market value?
It is not the businessman that is the thief, it is the government that gives them the power to TAKE. Every person in business is given a set of rules....a fucked up set of rules. They have a choice to follow a strict moral path, or do what EVERYONE ELSE DOES in order to have a chance of winning. Trump epitomizes the illness, the corruption that government has enabled in the world's economy. Every person with a job will likely lose it if the corruption was ended tomorrow.
Would we rather have someone in this office who KNOWS AND ADMITS that this corruption exists and he has openly and legally participated in it, or another politician who survives from this graft and denies any association with it?
If we are waiting on a politician of immaculate conception, we will have a long wait. We will have a president, and he/she will be flawed. Or choice is how flawed.
Trump defends Eminent Domain. He believes it's good for the government to take people's homes so he and other developers can get them. He was very upset at Michael Forbes (whose farm he wants) for refusing to sell. Trump said Forbes was making him look bad. Nice guy.
He's a businessman. He sees large economic projects as good for the economy, and in many cases they are. He is not going to hold the hands of the little guys.
If you want someone who will gladly burn the economy to the ground to the good of "the little guy" then vote Bernie Sanders.
We know the balance is gone, and Trump will likely be bad for some people. Count up all those who Trump has fucked and then put that list next to Obama's and then tell how bad he will be. Or you can wait for perfection. I hope you believe in heaven.
"...economic projects as good for the economy..."
If you're really old, Oldwood, I suggest you think long and hard about promoting what's 'good for the economy' at the expense of individual rights, including property rights. A very good case could be made for doing away with old people for the 'good of the economy'. After all, Oldwood, we old people (I'm 63) are on the way out and using up resources. Are you willing to go quietly if it's good for the economy? Because I'm not.
Not arguing with you. I'm not for most of this crap. I'm simply saying that this is Trump's "ideology" and most people will agree with him, as it is NEVER their property in question. This is true of all of our freedoms. Its not so much the evil politicians stealing them, it is that we sell them so cheaply, many for a simple handout.
What we need is someone who can win for America, and hopefully someone who will allow their ideology to be tempered by the constitution. The people that you and I might agree on that would be good for our rights while still keeping an eye on the big picture are not viable.
Its a matter of figuring out where we can yield and where we can't. unfortunately regardless of how wise we may be, it is the "people"who will decide what is important, and if they choose poorly, they will suffer for it. At 62 years, I fully accept I have chosen poorly on many issues, and like every elder before me, I try to impress upon those younger what I have learned, and as my predecessors discovered, no one cares.
Society, at our government's behest, will ask for more and more of our freedoms and liberties...for the good of the collective, and only when it is too late will we discover that we are not part of that collective. As we have seen our government over recent years, what is good for the "economy" is NOT necessarily good most of us. We are not part of THAT collective.
"...most people will agree with him..."
Polls showed most people disagreed strongly with the Kelo vs New London, Ct SCOTUS decision. If the word gets out, Trump will drop. He may have peaked already.
I support him now because he is so reviled by the DemPublican Party and their agitprop media. Once I enter the voting booth come party primary day, I'll likely cast my vote for Cruz. There are only a handful of non GOProgs in the Senate; such as Cruz, Paul, Mike Lee, maybe Jeff Sessions. But that's about it. I'll definitely vote against Senator Burr, R-NC, he's a GOProg. and been a loyal fluffer for the Party. Really the only reason I need is their party leadership; Mitch McConnell and John Boehner.
The Don is the antidote for the anti crowd, whether it the anti-politician, anti- democrat, anti-republican, anti-establishment, anti-beltway, antiFOX News, anti-media,etc.
He may have flaws, but, he has struck a raw nerve, with a lot of people. He is not going to just "go away."
If a candidate wants to force Iran into giving up all nuclear programs or go to war, would they accept as a condition auditing the Fed and making HFT illegal so we don't wind up with $350 oil and $10 gasoline?
When we invaded Iraq, oil spiked to $38 and we had $1.75 gasoline.
Nothing happening or a story about a tank firing on something sends oil up 20%. We're paying $2.50 for gasoline with oil under $50. It is insane.
I want a candidate who will end the Fed, end welfare, send every illegal packing, put the TBTF CEOs in handcuffs, and waterboard Lloyd Blankfein until he admits he is doing the work of Satan.
Don't think I'm getting that candidate.
I'd run myself, but I wouldn't drag Blankfein out in handcuffs. I'd cut him to pieces and hang parts from the entrance of each Federal Reserve branch.
>>I'd cut him to pieces and hang parts from the entrance of each Federal Reserve branch.<<
Lighten up there, Francis. "Hannibal" is not an instruction manual.
problem once again is what are our choices?!
Hitlery = NO!
Bush = NO!!
Cruz = NO!
Lessig = Maybe
Trump = wins by default!
wtf?!
Run dammit! I'll vote for you.
Another fucking idiot
"The Republican base really seems to have simply forgotten about the presidential veto or the Senate filibuster. They seem to have thought all they had to do was pass bills with a simple majority and they would magically become law."
Conservatives understand fully the powers that congress holds, and further we understand that congress is AFRAID to use them. Yes Obama can veto anything, but it is their job to put it on his desk and MAKE HIM veto it. They also can shut off the money, but they are FUCKING COWARDS because mean old Obama won't agree to their budgets and will BLAME THEM for a government shut down. Progressives would not hesitate one second in shutting down the government for what they want or DEMAND!
Trump would shut it all down and say fuck you to anyone who challenged him on it. Congressional republicans threaten to do things, things they have every legal right and RESPONSIBILITY to do, and then capitulate, and then apologize for the "misunderstanding".
Congress passed a bill to build a border fence in 06, and have NEVER funded it, I'm sure because Obama won't sign the budget. THE WORST KIND OF COWARDS. They won't even try. They so readily embrace defeat they may as well be French.
Fuckers
it is bad when the Mitch McConnel took over from Harry Reid and there is no difference that can be noted.
I feel sorry for those that just don't know what Trump's real purpose is.
If tyranny and the noiZ-media permit and push it, then its propaganda, not authentic.
Zion is a scheme, not an ethnicity.
Even poisoned Kool-Aid tastes nice.
Kchrisc,
What is Trump's real purpose?
Bring out the latino vote for the blue team.
what
Of course he can, Idiots vote. The only choice is to stay home & opt out of the system. Trump is anti gun and property rights, unless it's his properties.
He is pro immigrants no matter what he keeps saying. He wants a fence to keep Mexicans out all while bringing in Indian (Dot not feather) to work for his corporations. He then pays 3 of them what he used to pay an 1 American. He is just a right/white version of Obama. He will just fool people into thinking he is the right choice. Hell, look at all the people on ZH that can't wait to vote for him. The same sheep bash all the Obama voters for being fooled, then line up to be sheared themselves.
Don't care if he is elected.
Don't care what his policies are.
I just appreciate the fact that he says what he thinks without double talk and without capitulation or apology to the speech police. He is giving courage to millions who have been intimidated to silence. We have had seven years of being called racist for simply speaking out against what this administration has been doing.
It has to stop and if Trump can stop it, I'm all for it. If we are going to slow this progressive slide, it's going to take more than a president or politician. Its going to take people with the courage of their convictions to say it loud and proud.
Black Lives Matter hasn't seen anything until they see US in the streets.

I don't think of Trump as a fascist, but other than that an excellent article.
Every word out of Trumps mouth has alluded to making the United States of America strong again.
Trump has no qualms with discussing, or with understanding the weaknesses of the United States.
His whole candidcacy is based on making the country stronger, and more well respected.
Just how Mr. Trump plans to execute his plan, is what's causing all of the grandure.
if he gets the nomination and wins, he will then receive the "this is how it is" speech and fold like everyone else has
Impossible to predict future behavior of a Trump-like person.
The excitement generated by a Trump is an indication of how far off from center we are...
The perfect candidate would be one injecting vigorously an awareness that the presidency is a figurehead.
Look to closest representation, see the neglect and ignorance now on both sides of the equation,
as if such a simple arrangement is strange...
Don't look to a "leader" to fix things; by then it is too late.
Yes, a well centered society would be quite content with a do nothing government, and honestly a do nothing president is all I have hoped for from Obama since elected.
Well, we are passed that now. Doing nothing is no longer and option.Someone is going to have to grab the wheel and do something.
First of all, we need someone to give people hope. Not hope of something for nothing but hope that their efforts will be rewarded, that hard work and integrity CAN work.
The second thing we need is someone who does not look like a fool internationally. Someone who can bring confidence to an agreement.
Thirdly we need someone who will preserve what remaining integrity we have in the world, create an image that we say what we mean, and that we WILL NOT FOLD. America has failed to follow through on anything and as such portrays weakness. America is a laughing stock of the world. This is a dangerous world made even more dangerous by the shit we have seen for the last forty years.
Sorry, Oldwood, I still have faith in the so-called electorate as it all falls down...
There is a dangerous dynamic in play,
and your "someone" is not going to work.
There are bigger fish to fry, in spite of the ignorance, and that is a defunct congress.
If you think the forces in play will trend toward representation,
you are mistaken, and most importantly wasting time and energy.
"Thirdly we need someone who will preserve what remaining integrity we have in the world,"
Ah, so you think a someone is the key to preserving integrity...
sad and misguided thing to say...
as I said, by that time, all is lost.
You speak as if you're not quite sure what the original mission was...
Integrity in death?
What I'm talking about is survival. Not constitutional rights "integrity".
It reminds me of my now dead mother, who was hit by a dump truck while pulling weeds in her front yard. As you can imagine it damned near killed her, hit by the front bumper and run over by the rear duals. The thing that almost killed her was the EMTs cutting her clothes off in the front yard while trying to save her life.
Integrity.
Its a good and valuable thing and we need itin our dealings with other nations. But if we see this economy truly tank, we will witness something that no living person has ever seen at this scale. We MUST save our economy and country if we are going to have ANYTHING to enjoy integrity over. I'm all for principles, but as a coworker told me many years ago (yes, I have always been argumentative), choose your battles wisely.
We have lots of battles before us and many of the principled ones should have been fought many years ago. We can't afford to fight yesterday's battles. What many propose here is suicide, something easy to do while typing anonymously.
I want a future where people still have something worth fighting for. Nothing we see here is worth burning to the ground for, especially when the majority of people do not see it.
Just gotta lol @ the nihilist "voting doesn't matter" crowd whining about Trump. Bunch of genuine losers.
Oh please please please please please please please please please; tell me where I can donate, the debates alone would be comedy gold!
what a load of tripe.
First, trump's value to the white middle and lower middle class is NOT what he can DO, but instead what he can or might SAY. His value as a propaganda weapon for the white working class is enormous. Propaganda is more valuable than actions.
For many Americans, and early polls prove it, it’s Trump or nothing. Here’s the kind of issue that brings on the votes for Trump, a man who just might take it on.
51% of immigrant households on welfare, 30% 'native Americans': The Washington Examiner
By Paul Bedard (@SecretsBedard) • 9/2/15
A comprehensive study of U.S. Census Bureau reports of welfare participation revealed Wednesday that 51 percent of immigrants -- legal and illegal -- access welfare programs, far more than the 30 percent of native-born Americans.
The Center for Immigration Studies analysis of the Census Survey of Income and Program Participation found "significantly higher rates" of immigrants on government programs than other government surveys, showing that Washington has done little to curb access to Medicaid, cash, food, and housing programs.
"If immigration is supposed to benefit the country, then immigrant welfare use should be much lower than native use," said Steven Camarota the Center's director of research and the report's author.
"However, two decades after welfare reform tried to curtail immigrant welfare use, immigrant households are using most programs at higher rates than natives. The low-skill level of many immigrants means that although most work, many also access welfare programs. If we continue to allow large numbers of less-educated immigrants to settle in the country, then immigrant welfare use will remain high," he added in a statement provided to Secrets.
While designed to help poor American families, there are several openings for immigrants -- legal and illegal -- to get welfare, according to the report.
"Limits only apply to some programs; most legal immigrants have been in the country long enough to qualify for welfare; the restrictions often do not apply to children; states often provide welfare to new immigrants on their own; naturalizing makes immigrants eligible for all programs; and, most important, immigrants (including illegal immigrants) can receive benefits on behalf of their U.S.-born children, who are awarded U.S. citizenship at birth," said CIS.
The 53-page report indicates that most of the households surveyed are headed by a legal immigrant.
It found that Medicaid is the top program accessed by immigrants. But, CIS found, even "if that program is excluded it is still the case that 44 percent of immigrant households use one or more welfare programs compared to 26 percent of native households — a 19 percentage-point difference."
In the report provided to Secrets, CIS listed these key findings:
-- Welfare use is high for both new arrivals and long-time residents. Of households headed by immigrants who have been in the country for more than two decades, 48 percent access welfare.
-- No single program explains immigrants' higher overall welfare use. For example, not counting subsidized school lunch, welfare use is still 46 percent for immigrants and 28 percent for natives.
-- Immigrant households have much higher use of food programs (40 percent vs. 22 percent for natives) and Medicaid (42 percent vs. 23 percent). Immigrant use of cash programs is somewhat higher than natives (12 percent vs. 10 percent) and immigrant use of housing programs is similar to natives.
-- Welfare use varies among immigrant groups. Households headed by immigrants from Central America and Mexico (73 percent), the Caribbean (51 percent), and Africa (48 percent) have the highest overall welfare use. Those from East Asia (32 percent), Europe (26 percent), and South Asia (17 percent) have the lowest.
-- Many immigrants struggle to support their children, and a large share of welfare is received on behalf of U.S.-born children. However, even immigrant households without children have significantly higher welfare use than native households without children — 30 percent vs. 20 percent.
-- In 2012, 76 percent of households headed by an immigrant who had not graduated high school used one or more welfare programs, as did 63 percent of households headed by an immigrant with only a high school education.
-- In the four top immigrant-receiving states, use of welfare by immigrant households is significantly higher than that of native households: California (55 percent vs. 30 percent), New York (59 percent vs. 33 percent), Texas (57 percent vs. 34 percent), and Florida (42 percent vs. 28 percent).

J.R. you drive me nuts.
Now I have to spend another half hour dissecting your post, before I can jump in the shower and catch some ZZZZ's.
My best to Sue Ellen. :-)
Should help you sleep, Yen. Pleasant dreams...but not of Sue Ellen. ;-)
I think he can secure the nomination. Once he does, we just need to get Hindenburg to appoint him Chancellor.
Then we can build the AutoWallBahn.
Jesus. Fucking. Christ.
Ok... everybody posting here gets that the press is controlled by the same people who control the sitting politicians... right. So ask yourself this: WHY do you think they're giving Trump so much coverage?!
He's a plant. He's saying exacty the shit middle America wants to hear, in exactly the kind of language they want to hear it in. Same as Obama did. And here on ZH where everybody thinks they're extra enlightened, the same fuckers who laugh at Obama voters for being dupes are falling for the exact same bullshit.
If Trump becomes president, then he has been chosen to do so. The people doing the choosing are the same people that chose Obama and Bush. Do you really think it can be any different? If so you are seriously fucking retarded. The oligarchs have aready won, and part of the reason is that YOU fucking people and millions like you keep grasping at straws like Trump. If we all wake up to the fact that there is NO fixing this shit we might have a prayer of doing something effective.
I believe trump has been given as much media attention as he has because they honestly thought it would help destroy him. It has backfired on them and his popularity is now undeniable. It has become impossible for them to ignore him, yet if you actually listen to this "coverage" you will see the vast majority of it is disparaging....and its still not working.
The press has a special problem. They most definitely has an ideological agenda but they are also the press, and when people are attracted to something they are like reflexive rubberneckers who can't look away.
Progressives have a special problem also in that that have been coasting for decades without ever having to make a legitimate argument for their disastrous agenda, for whenever anyone would speak out they would simply be ignore or silenced. As we know, the debate is over, right? With trump, he does not slink back apologetically when attacked, he doubles down and challenges their "assumptions". They are not used to that. Bush was attackedand denigrated from the day of his election and he never fought back. He was too " Christian" to lower himself to return fire. Obama has always fought back with a vengeance, willing to destroy his opposition. We all know we are racists now as it was repeatedly accused of us for simply questioning Obama's policies.
No, the press and progressives have got a problem on their hands with Trump.
Have you ever heard the old expression that there is no good press or bad press, just press? As long as they are talking about you it is good. You're not watching the press respond to a surprise, you're seeing some of the best orchestrated theatre in history. Here's the thing... at this point in time, if the press appears to hate him a large chunk of the electorate will like him even more. Wake up man, it's all controlled. It's all planned. Trump isn't just mouthing off; his speeches are prepared.
Wake me when Trump expresses non-allegiance to the Jewish State. Until that happens, he is nothing more than a boisterous shill.
