Who Would Win World War 3? The Infographic

Tyler Durden's picture

For those unaware, China is conducting a massive military parade on Wednesday to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.

The event - which is accompanied by a three-day public holiday - is important for Xi Jinping, who is keen to project China’s strength to the world, especially in the wake of the country’s economic deceleration and highly publicized stock market meltdown.

Of course the parade also comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Beijing.

China’s land reclamation efforts in the South China Sea - where the PLA has constructed nearly 3,000 acres of new sovereign territory atop reefs - has regional US allies on edge. The dispute came to a head earlier this year when China effectively threatened to shoot down a US spy plane carrying a CNN crew over the Spratlys.

It’s against this backdrop that we recently brought you infographics demonstrating China’s South China Sea naval superiority on the way to asking who would win a maritime conflict. Below, courtesy of CNN, is a simple infographic which puts the militaries of the US and China side by side on the way to making a comparison that may well become increasingly relevant in the new bipolarity.

A Republican president stepped in and quickly tied up the Vietnam war, after years of clusterfuck, then a Dem Congress abandoned South Vietnam.   Some years after our victory the north rolled up the south.  We had a relative handful of people left there then.

I would bet that with modern thinking they wouldn't bother hitting many cities with even one.  They could destroy most of the infrastructure using EMPs and only have to target Cheyenne Mountain amongst other military targets.  You don't want to poison the well, just kill off the competition and hopefully prevent yourself from getting killed in the melee.

Actually, I bet self preservation is pretty high on everyone's list.  Hmm, what kind of nuke secrets did the "Chinese" hack?  That would be the name of the game right there.  Shutdown the enemy's defenses and then attack when you are guaranteed an easy win.  Still go with the EMP stuff at that point.  There's no reason to polute our new continent with radiation is there?

How many Chinese women would have to emigrate to the USA for the USA to end up half Chinese?  How many WM / AF pairings are there in the USA's technocratric class?  From what I can see it is substantial.

Not fear mongering here.  If I were young, I'd hook up with an AF.  The odds of getting a partner who wants to build a life and family is much higher.

That's a tougher question than you'd think. With question, the US could project power into China's sphere of influence, but they definitely don't want to, because they definitely don't want to get into a ground war in Asia. The population density is just too thick.

I don't think China could move large numbers out of China, and, again, they definitely don't want to, because thier greatest strength is the screaming billion chinamen in country.

Its about PROJECTION of force. How do we/they get the tanks there/here?

Partly true, denial of access to recources can be enough. One thing the US certainly has going for it (although they seem to be on the road to messing things up politically) is a range of allies giving - effectively - forward operating bases in the area. China has no such advantage. Logistically China has no chance conventionally, so as long as US negate free trade/shipping/logistics, they will win by default. Basically, similar story as versus Japan in the old days, or as GB has been acting over the past 300-odd years.

Biggest task for China - in my opinion - is nailing a wedge between the various 'allied' partnerships.

Having said all that, why would China bother? As long as they can sell their stuff to the US and locally as well as Africa in the next decades, why even try to fight? Sure, USD and treasuries are going to be difficult but to be realistic, even if China looses a trilion in becoming the new powerhouse and reserve currency (which I doubt), it is a bargain versus fighting a major war.

There is only one nation in the world that has any significant power projection capability.

Probably true. At the time, either 1914 or 1939 (your pick), Germany was probably the strongest military power on the planet. China today, so far as I know, makes no such claim of pre-eminence.

You can't put a maritime blockade in effect if your radioactive carrier battle groups are on the bottom of the ocean.

If you want to elevate this to a nuclear exchange, oceanic commerce is dead due to the lack of port facilities on either end of the ocean.

Works even better than a naval blockade. 100% effective.

Carriers key asset is their mobility. No land-based weapon has ever claimed a fleet-sized carrier although kamikazes got a CVL off Leyte in 1944.

First time for everything, of course, and the times they are a changin, but it's silly to suppose that China is advancing in offensive measures but the USN is standing pat defensively. War is full of surprises, especially at the outset, but one should not bet on all the surprises happening on one side of the ledger.

Speaking of chemical factories, why would nukes need to be launched by an enemy when the US has stockpiles of nuclear material laying everywhere?  Just taking a hit at any plant would do the trick would it not?

It answers the question easily if you realize that nuclear warfare is non-symmetric.  Even a single warhead can bring about unacceptable losses--ie it can kill the people in charge. 250 is a death sentance for those in charge, so they would never push them to use them.

Easily answers what quetion? Which country will success in make the earth permanently uninhabiltable by human being.  Are there any Adults besides tyler Durden left in the world?

Adults understand that science actually provides information about the real world.  It has developed an almost flawless sent of techiques to explore the physical universe.  This has been generally referred to as reason, a function of cortical brain process created and orperating in the real world and extremely effetive in identiying entities, processes and the physical transformation that create new forms of entities and processes in a seemingly unending transformation or unfolding of the basic constituents of matter and energy.  An adut know that in the vast expanse of the universe there is a force (popularized by George Lucas) that binds it all together.  Adult dont' cofuse this fundamental force with the idea of an anthorpomorphied fictional higher power called God who actually concerns himself with the behavior and path of the human species.  This binding force is the creator and creation has no regarding the development, evolutional, and eventual transformation of human beings.  It's neutral about it.  Doesn't give two shits whether the human species lives or dies.

Children lack faith in themselves to cope with this fundamental reality of existence and use various psychological techniques, primariy one of the most simple - denial - to escape the resonsibility of accepting this reality.

Yet another quality of experience overcomes the adult view of the world.  it is the most decadent and distorted types of human mental processes.  These are greed, fear, and the desire to dominate others.  It is unfortuante, and ultimately the downfall of the human race, that this power mad segement of human society has and will continue to dominate and direct the Hegelian dialectic, moving history inexorably to the endgame of human existence.

250 nukes vs 7100 nukes you say?  so what's the minimum number needed to make the earth permanently uninhabitable by human beings?  50?  100?  Are we talking Edward Teller type weapons, in which case the number is going to lower.  Or mabye just simple hydrogen bombs that can be denotated underground, because those incredibly low-life examples of human potential gone awry will make the case that we can use 'tactical' nuclear weapons.

I propose that we just nuke the middle east completely, from hungary South to Egypt and West to India. Just create a smoulding pile of nuclear radiation that will destroy the cradle of civilization.  Then let's see what happens after that....

JustObserving:

No, it does not.

A few hundred is enough to destroy global civlization. What has actually happened is that civilizations controlled by being able to back up lies with violence, plus weapons that have become trillions of times more powerful than ever before in human history, has resulted in that kind of civilization becoming based upon runaway criminal insanities. Business as usual is for the human species to commit collective suicide more slowly, while war as usual is for the human species to commit collective suicide more quickly. Without some series of technological miracles, surpassed by even greater political miracles, then "We're all Doomed!!!"

That may well be their plan. However, I think that they are too criminally insane to comprehend how criminally insane that plan really is! They have morbid psychological and political habits, which have no guarantee that those have not become grossly unrealistic. The human top carnivores, or the men that were the best at preying on other men, are NOT necessarily right that they would be able to carry through their plans in ways which would actually work out for them.
