Who Would Win World War 3? The Infographic

Tyler Durden's picture

For those unaware, China is conducting a massive military parade on Wednesday to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.

The event - which is accompanied by a three-day public holiday - is important for Xi Jinping, who is keen to project China’s strength to the world, especially in the wake of the country’s economic deceleration and highly publicized stock market meltdown.

Of course the parade also comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Beijing.

China’s land reclamation efforts in the South China Sea - where the PLA has constructed nearly 3,000 acres of new sovereign territory atop reefs - has regional US allies on edge. The dispute came to a head earlier this year when China effectively threatened to shoot down a US spy plane carrying a CNN crew over the Spratlys.

It’s against this backdrop that we recently brought you infographics demonstrating China’s South China Sea naval superiority on the way to asking who would win a maritime conflict. Below, courtesy of CNN, is a simple infographic which puts the militaries of the US and China side by side on the way to making a comparison that may well become increasingly relevant in the new bipolarity.

It seems very unlikely China would be crushed. US is experienced in crushing small states and they are probably the most pampered army in the world if you look at Camp Bastion on Afghanistan for instance, with Pizza Hut and all kinds of home from home entertainments. In a proper theater war with a serious opponent it would be a different outcome. I think the defending nation would win in either case if a conventional war was fought.

What seems to get glossed over in this article is that China adult (military age) population still consists of families subject to the one child policy.

What happens when thousands of casualties are suffered, wiping out twice as many (mother and father's) families?

Kill 10,000 Chinese (little emperor) soldiers and you wipe out 20,000 entire family lines..

Never seem to see that factored into any equations..

It is a real biggie to the families who lose those Chinese "lilttle emperors".   Those men have had everything that their mother and fathers families can give to them.  They've been pampered and would inherit everything the familyl has accumulated.

If thier son dies in a needless war, who will they give their assets to?  Why.. the gov't, of course..

And that is not going to go down very well on "main-street" China..

It's only in recent years that we've seen Bejing's leadership permit couples to have more than one child, usually in exchange for a costly permit..   But those children will not reach military age for another 10-15 years..

We've all watched "Saving Private Ryan"..  the sole remaining son of a family being rescued to carry on the family line.

In China, EVERY soldier is "Private Ryan"..

If you live in/ near a city... Months of no food/ water? (Notice I didn't add sewers because most cities are already).

Good luck

They forgot two very important components to that graph:  brains and command cohesion.  I wonder how those would look on the chart.  You also have to wonder if "Made In China" weapons systems are anywhere near roughly on par with "Made In China" anything else.  If so, then all those little icons on the Chinese part of the graph quite possibly represent nothing more than cheap shit that can't be counted on to work.  But who knows, maybe they have their act together.  Somehow, I doubt it.  Look at everything else in China to get a clue.  But still, it would be a mistake to underestimate them, and I'm sure the American military is smart enough to know that.  All bullshit aside, this is probably just a big propaganda stunt anyway meant to rev up the nationalistic spirit in China, for public consumption but little else, just another ploy by the Chinese "leadership" to maintain power and the illusion of control.

This is complete bullshit. You think china's shirt submarine fleet matches ours 1:1? Most aren't even nuclear. How about air craft carriers... pretty convenient you left those off being a 11:1 ratio. Compare the types of aircraft the US has against the types China has. What a complete fraud this post is.

Actually, an nuclear war would NOT be the end of the world, only for the Northern Hemisphere. And many would survive the initial attack in the Northern Hemisphere, only the large metropolitan cities  would be destroyed {not entirely  a bad thing either}. What is not survivable is what would proceed after the attack. Multiply the Katrina disaster times 100k and you get the picture. New Zealand is sounding better all the time, even with it's earthquakes. In the event of an ICBM attack on the USA, know this: There will be no warning sirens or Civil Defense messages. You are on your own.

There are unlikely to be any survivors let alone a winner of WW3 for the simple reason that as soon as one side expects to lose they will try to nuke the opposition. It is likely NATO would lose the opening conventional engagements because they are over dependent on complex unreliable technology and morale amongst their troops is poor now that all know how shabbily veterans are treated when they return home and that all wars are started with LIES fought merely for corporate facist greed (think non existant Iraq weapons of mass distruction, Afgan involvement in 9-11, Libyan missing $35 billion solid gold intended for ´´dinars´´)

In terms of raw stupidity, today America wins hands down.

Quotes from a famous Chinese guy.
All warfare is based on deception.
Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win.

The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting.

Thu, 09/03/2015 - 08:24 | 6503658 stopthejunk1

I dunno about this. U.S. has long practice (decades) in deceptive warfare against the Soviet Union. China has no such experience.

This is, I think, partly why China is so full of bluster. As long as China continues to bluster, the world is a safe place, because a truly dangerous adversary never announces his moves. China's bluster is all for local nationalist consumption, to detract from internal problems (e.g., massive explosions that kill hundreds of factory workers, rampant corruption, etc.)

Btw, the "famous Chinese guy" you quote is not the one running China nowadays. Today's contest is not between Sun Tzu and Ben Franklin. By most measures, the Chinese seem to have forgotten their Confucian ancestry.

"Japan will side with China?"

That is preposterous.

China has fought wars with everyone around them and they and they Japanese hate each other and are mortal enemies.

You correct in that China and the Japanese hate each other and are mortal enemies so will never be on the same side unless its the side of World Peace. However its bullying jingoistic America that is pissing off citizens of Asian countries even if many are run by US aligned puppets. Lets s if Obama gets his so called Trade agreements signed -more and more Asian citizens see it for a corporate facist takeover of their overeignt just as do increasing numbers of europeans which can only work in China and Russia´s favour to sign up as many to their win-win approach to tade and investment

This is a meaningless graphic.

Most of the world blames the US for all of their problems.

The US has certainly fostered many injustices, but has also cured others.  The current crop of US leaders are power mad, hubristic egotists without a doubt.

But these things are temporary.

However the clear strategic movement of forces is not to simply conquer the US, but to destroy it.  Apparently some idiots think they can turn the clock back to 1800 but keep the benefits of technology...

And they are not people who believe in freedom, economic or otherwise.  That is the real point.  For freedom of action is the source of prosperity and technology.

That has to change.

So if the whole world is going to try to kill the myself and my children, whether I support the current leadership of the US becomes a moot point.  Moreover, militarily it is a lost cause because there is no ability to implement a global conquest against the whole world...and the oppositions' goals are not limited to some specific policy change, but to total destruction.

So, if the field of battle is to be total destruction...you will get it.  There needn't be anyone left.  Because, frankly, my concern for humanity stops with my posterity.

In choosing to make extinction the chosen field of battle, you guarantee it.  I don't think the US can militarily resist so much of the globe.

But we sure as hell can ensure the rest of you share our fate.

Biological weapons are only off limits to those who intend to survive.  So too nukes and the rest.  Why not?

There's no such thing as a "US v China" war.

Any way involving China and the U.S. would naturally involve just about every other nation on the planet.

China would do well to remember that it is surrounded by historic enemies. They seem to forget this, however, as evidenced by the way they continually piss off everyone around them (Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, etc.)

The real question is, as anyone who has ever purchased an Android watch might ask, how many of China's tanks, subs, nukes, etc. actually are working (like as in not broken or defective). I reckon 30 percent of anything they have if launched, started up and engaged would self destruct or just sit there and then randomly self destruct later.
