Trump Signs Pledge To Not Run As 3rd-Party Candidate

Tyler Durden's picture

Leading Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump appears to have just gone 'all-in'...

  • *TRUMP SAYS HE'S SIGNED PLEDGE NOT TO RUN AS 3RD PARTY CANDIDATE

And while he was at it, he took a jab at Hillary as "the worst secretary of state in the history of the world."

Maybe The Economist is on to something.

But of course, Trump did not stop there:

  • *TRUMP SAYS IT'S `MORE APPROPRIATE' TO SPEAK ENGLISH IN CAMPAIGN

And finally, this raised an eyebrow...

What third party would have him?

He definitely isn't a Libertarian.

3.3 International Affairs

American foreign policy should seek an America at peace with the world. Our foreign policy should emphasize defense against attack from abroad and enhance the likelihood of peace by avoiding foreign entanglements.  We would end the current U.S. government policy of foreign intervention, including military and economic aid. We recognize the right of all people to resist tyranny and defend themselves and their rights. We condemn the use of force, and especially the use of terrorism, against the innocent, regardless of whether such acts are committed by governments or by political or revolutionary groups.

He could create his own party.  Or just run as an independent.  In any case, he shouldn't have done this so soon.  He still needs the leverage to keep the establishment Rs at least not ACTIVELY working against his candidacy.

one dipshit comment was enough. Trump is a respected businessman; you don't find business leaders running him down, only know-nothing plebes.

We are governed by liars who have bitter contempt for most taxpayers. I don't get that vibe from Trump, so fuck off. You don't have to be a chump, vote for Trump.

~"There is no enforcement mechanism."~

There is in the court of public opinion. Bear in mind, this is a pledge demanded by one weasel organization on a professional wealseler. Trump wouldn't have signed it if he didn't see a way around it. Period.

Secondly, Reibus is setting Trump up for a fall. If you haven't been following the Conservative Treehouse's articles on the GOPe's, (Kountry Klub™), "Splitter Strategy", read up on it here. The GOPe has, is and will be pushing Jeb. Jeb is their porch negro. The fact that Jeb's Spanish is Mexi-Spanglish matters not a whit.

(Two days ago Jeb, trying to show off what he thought was good Spanish chops, said of the Donald, "El no es conservador.", trying to say, (very poorly), that Trump was no conservative. What he said was, when translated into proper Spanish, "He is no conserver, (conserverer)". What he meant to say, had he genuine Spanish language skills, would have been, "El no es un conservativo." Like I said, Mexi-Spanglish.)

But I think that both Trump and the GOPe are severely underestimating The Good Doctor. This from an article on the Hill.com just today:

~"Carson has the best favorability rating in the field at 67 percent positive and 6 percent negative. That’s an improvement from 45 percent positive and 10 percent negative from before the first debate.

He’s the only Republican who would beat Trump in a hypothetical head-to-head match-up, according to the poll. Carson would thump Trump 55 percent to 36 percent if the two were to square off."~

Personally I would have required some sort of pledge from the GOPe in return for mine had I been Trump, but the man does know how to negotiate. Maybe he did, but everyone should keep an eye out for Ben Carson.

How the hell do you know?

It doesn't.

As far as I know, Trump doesn't have a "platform".  He has position papers.

If anyone knows if he has ever FORMALLY taken a position on the Federal Reserve, let us know.

Otherwise, attibuting a "policy" on the Federal Reserve to Trump is just making things up.

What a surprise.  Anonymous bloggers, using the internet terminals at the library, making things up.

There is no point in talking to American voters about the Federal Reserve.  They have no clue. Ron Paul learned that. You might just as well talk to voters about heiroglyphics.

As I said on another Trump story here:

"When The Donald says that he will abolish the Fed, remove money from political elections, forbid dual citizenship for Israelis, give back the airwaves to The People, imprison Wall Street gangsters, imprison company heads who hire illegals, break up the TBTF banks and corporations, eliminate the federal education agency ( I forget the acronymn), eliminate the income tax etc., - ONLY then will I believe he is serious about confronting "evil"."

When you stop thinking like this you will finally be through with high school.

You aren't going to hear any establishment figure run against the Fed, if they are serious about tackling it they will make that secret, and force a confronation after being elected. Keep up.

Trump may well have some real bombs in mind; he has already said he may never leave the white house.... Would they try to get him there? By the time he is in office, the establishment will have spent 20 months shitting all over him. You may be surprised what happens.

Hey!!!!  Trump is suing Univision/Jorge Ramos for $500 million over the Ms. America deal.  Do you think he doesn't know how to write a contract.  I can see him alleging breach, suing the Pubs for a gigabuck and then starting a third party.

He probably thinks he has the nomination sewn up.  He is probably correct.  Really...Jeb attacking him in Spanish.  Jeb is a loser.  Besides Boehner and that crowd have shown themselves willing to sell the Republic down the toilet for $100K or even to prevent obama saying nasty words about their mothers.  What wimps.

If I weren't American I would be laughing on the floor right now over China having warships off the coast of Alaska while Obama is hiking around in his mom jeans warning us about global warming.  Barry you are being called out.  Please don't let the Chinese take my American lunch money.  I was never a bully when I was a kid.  But if Barry was in my third grade class, I know I would go take his lunch money.  It would be irrestible.  You would do it simply because you could.  The rest of the class would expect it.  I could never understand bullies before, but I am taking a different view today.  And Barry, please consider that the Chinese have been seloling lots of Treasuries recently.  Shrinking glaciers in Alaska aren't even on the radar screen of world problems.  What good are full sized glaciers if they glow in the dark from nuclear fallout.  Speaking of fallout, don't we get nuclear winter with nuclear wars.  So Barry let me get this straight...I am going to have to live w/o my lunch money, with radiation burns over half my body and experience 20 degree below zero temperatures in the height f summer for the next 100 years.  You da man!!!!

I have no idea if there even is a contract (I only see a one-sided "pledge" being held up in his hand).  Not sure you CAN write a contract for political alliance.  Not an enforcable one, anyway.  What exactly would the the damages if it was broken?  4 years of Presidential salary ASSUMING he would have maybe won in the general election?

Excellent point.  Harkening back to Business Law 101, just what is the "valuable consideration" here  You know...I, Donald Trump, in return for the valuable consideration of agreeing not to run on a third party, will receive....what valuable consideration....and from whom?  There is no basis for a contract here.

What does this tell you about the RINOs and their ability to "manage the economy?"  They don't understand business fundamentals.  Only capable of spouting Keynesian crap and spending other people's money or freshly printed Fed paper/electronic dollars.  Just like the Dems?  Have any of them ever had a real job?

Its a verbal contract of understanding. If Trump understands and you understand then there is understanding, the pledge is making a verbal agreement formal. It is a contract under law.
Penalties will be funding related. accepting money and then doing somthing outside of the agreement or counter to the agreement is thieft.
That is if we were a nation of laws.

Soooooooooooooo...you are arguing that the GOP is giving Trump funding.  That is interesting.  if so it is surely valuable consideration and make the case that a contract has indeed arisen.

But Donal;d has gigabucks and would have us believe that he is beholden to nobody.  I don't have an answer to that.

One might argue that by virtue of allowing him to appear in the first debate, that the GOP has given him valubale public exposure That conecpt is a little like non compete clauses in sales businesses.  You know...we will let you come be a broker for E.G Edwards.  You will benefit from our name in seeking clients, but if you leave, your clients stay with us.

Frankly as of today, the GOP is getting a whole lot more out of Donald than Donald is getting out of the GOP.  Winston Churchill made some comment like that about his relationship with Scotch bottles.

The state ballot access laws are a major impediment to becoming a candidate, either with a new party (The Big Hair Party!), or as an independent.  He had to make the decision now or he simply wouldn't have the time to get on the ballot in all 50 states, so NoDebt's comment "he shouldn't have done this so soon" is wrong.  In addition, if he didn't sign the pledge, they were going to ban him from the upcoming CNN debate.  This is not a sell-out - it's just a necessary move, kind of like sacrificing a pawn for later advantage.

IMO, he will be the next president.  I can't wait!

A a Libertarian, I would not have been opposed to him being our candidate, and then securing ballot access for Libertarians going forward.  Tired of playing by "their rules" and being kept out of the debates and out of contention because of the idea that despite having the best ideas, Lbertarians do not have a chance to win.

I would also have enjoyed seeing the Republican Party cleaved into halves.

What you will now see happen is the "Caining" of Trump.

The Republican Party will now lead the charge to destroy one of their own...for the good of the Party, of course.

Claiming Trump not to be Libertarian is equilvalent to claiming Bush, Christie, McCain, and Romney are Republicans.

..."republican party cleaved into halves"....

both parties are coalitions, necessary to gather interests under a common power block.

it would be quite humorous, except that it isn't.  republicans == financial conservatives and bible thumpers in bed together....WTF?

democrats == liberal/progressives and union bosses in bed together.....WTF?

if we could cleave both parties into real interest blocks, then none of them would be dominant by themselves.  us libertarians are a mix of financial conservatives and liberals (w.r.t. social freedoms), and would be a significant voice in this scenario.  many countries operate this way, and coalitions are formed after folks vote for their party.  sorta makes more sense, and gives more voice to us disenfranchised.....

A huge mistake.  2016 is shaping up to be a recast of the 1860 election when the two major parties split and their became four credible candidates. There should be, and I believe there will be, an insurgency within both the Republicunt and Democrap parties.  Just who will be chosen to represent these insurgencies won't become apparent till next year.  I think this is not "going all in", but rather a signal that Trump has no intention of seriously running for president.  So either he is a secretly shilling for the D's by upsetting the R"s free for all, or else he see's blowback damage down the road to his business empire.

I think we may have a few democrats that have seen the light after Hopey-Changy One fucked up this country even more than anyone would think possible. Hopey-Changy Two, now hailed as the man who would herald in the Dawning of the New Age of America, may bring in a few disenchanted Republicans. Which then invites a retread of Hopey-Changy One to be trotted forth. Maybe after a few iterations we actually will make some headway! Of course at this rate most of us will be dead and our poor grandkids will be stuck with the clean up.

What's so bad about jury duty?  I never even got passed the screening questions, and neither will you if you're like most here.  I openly stated I believe in jury nullification and that I would never find anyone guilty of any drug charge.  Also mentioned that I do not accept the lone testimony of police without strong supporting physical evidence.  They told me good day immediately.

Up until a little while ago there were 17 major candidates seeking the Republican presidential nomination, and only Mr. Trump had refused to pledge to support the party’s nominee next year. That was a point I was going to make...with regard to the comments above yours referencing the "art of the deal".

By saying he binds himself he defacto binds the others.  If he doesn't win the nomination he will either not bother answering questions about who he supports, go on a vacation, or just go back on his word and rationalize it somehow.  The others won't care if they got his endorsement anyway I think as they will want to try and distance themselves from him.  I don't know that it's in their best interest to distance themselves, but they care less about winning the general election than they do propping up the status quo fake two party system as "legitimate" a while longer.

I don't really know what to think of Trump.

Out of sheer defense, having followed idiot after idiot, all the while learning about the whole corrupt system year after year, I have all but written off ALL poloiticians. Period.

Then here comes Trump. By all APPEARANCES, he seems to be saying to the media: Fuck you. This is what I think and you will not disuade me.

To anyone else, who, in his mind (and to some extent my own), is ruining this country, he is saying the same thing.

I just watched his press conference. I absolutely love how he shoots down the useless big media reporters with "that's not pertinent", and simply moves on.

I picture big media standing there in disbelief. I sure hope they are.

I think it's pretty smart of him.  He made a veiled threat to run third party at the first debate when they were fucking with him so badly and he refused to take that card off the table. Now he's playing that card on his own terms.

This is the establishment coming to him with this pledge gimmick. They're the ones crying uncle because he's publicly making them look really bad and illigitimate.

He met with the GOP goofball chair this AM (prior to signing) so he could extract some sort of benefit.  He probably got them to call off the dogs and stop trying to sabotage him and pledge to cough up big money for the general if he wins the nomination.

Now he no longer has to fight a two front war against R's and D's. In classic fashion he immediately called out Hillary as, "The worst Secretary of State in the entire history of the world".  Epic!

But we'll see.....
