698K Native-Born Americans Lost Their Job In August: Why This Suddenly Is The Most Important Jobs Chart
After the Fed admitted over a year ago that the US unemployment rate (which in 2012 was supposed to be a rate hike "threshold" once it hit 6.5% and is now at 5.1%) has become irrelevant in a country where a record 94 million people have left the labor force, and with the Fed poised to hike rates even though US hourly wages have not only not increased for the past 7 years, but for the vast majority of the labor force continue to decline, some have asked - is there any labor-related chart that matters any more?
The answer: a resounding yes, only it is none of the conventional charts that algos and sometimes humans look at.
The one chart that matters more than ever,has little to nothing to do with the Fed's monetary policy, but everything to do with the November 2016 presidential elections in which the topic of immigration, both legal and illegal, is shaping up to be the most rancorous, contentious and divisive.
The chart is the following, showing the cumulative addition of foreign-born and native-born workers added to US payrolls according to the BLS since December 2007, i.e., since the start of the recession/Second Great Depression.
The chart is especially important because what it shows for just the month of August will be enough to provide the Trump - and every other - campaign with enough soundbites and pivot points to last it for weeks on end: namely, that in August a whopping 698,000 native-born Americans lost their job. This drop was offset by 204,000 foreign-born Americans, who got a job in the month of August.
But the punchline: since December 2007, according to the Household Survey, only 790,000 native born American jobs have been added. Contrast that with the 2.1 million foreign-born Americans who have found a job over the same time period...
... and you have a combustible mess that will lead to serious fireworks during the next GOP primary.

Native-born Americans are illiterate, lazy, self-entitled, and lack any kind of real skill set. It's been taht way since about 1968, when the boomer generation began to smoke pot in high school.
I've never "lost" a job. I was fired once for mouthing off to the boss, but I didn;t want to work there anyway. I'm self employed, and I'm so freakin' busy, I can't stand it. Why am I different? Because I taught myself to fucking read, for one thing. I sure as hell didn't learn how to in school. Then, I taught myself some higher math, and some real skills, since they don't teach anyone these types of things any more. Then, I hired myself out as a skilled worker in my own business.
I'm nobody special. Not from a privileged background, unless white trash is "privileged" vis a vis the other trailer park inhabitants of color. But I did somehow decide I wasn't going to be anyone's bitch, either as a worker drone or a welfare parasite. Once I decided that, it became clear what I had to do: I had to fucking learn how to fucking read. everythign else is downstream of that.
Immigrants aren't lazy. They're motivated. It might be "easy" to cross the border. The rest of getting here isn't so easy. Rapists, thieves, coyotes who demand exorbitant fees and then leave their clients stranded in the desert... if someone gets here, they are motivated to make their investment pay off. What investment did a native-born American make? Yeah, that's what I thought.

The h1-b fulfills a need but there are obviously many issues with it. I'm not saying in every instance it's the right solution or that it is never abused. I just know foreign born workers in silicon valley (multi-decade people) - why they get hired etc. Also know from recruiters at those firms what they really feel about h1-b. American education system is not producing many 'fully capable' cadidates who are american born, that is the reality.

Then in 2001, suddenly there were company wide hiring freezes, even for interns who'd spent all four summers with one company. These lobbying groups have one purpose, drive down wages. Microsoft was lobbying for more H1Bs this year even as they laid off 10,000 employees. If you can't figure that one out, you are just too dumb to live.

Microsoft/Bill Gates has been specifically taken to task by both for asking for more and more H1B opportunities while claiming there are not enough skilled and trained Americans technical workers "willing to work for third world wages", and continuing to lay off the ones they already do have. This is the same reason robots are replacing manufacturing workers (they're cheaper).

I work in engineering, and the field is saturated, far more qualified applicants than there are jobs for them. Its a race to the bottom, pay is stagnant or falling for roughly a decade for many specializations.

It would also depend upon the labor pool and demand. If there are enough qualified Americans to work those jobs, we do not need to import foreign labor. It is simple logic.
It has more to do with labor costs. When employers can find cheaper foreign labor, they will hire them instead.
There are a record 94 million people in the U.S. who could be working but aren't. Surely there are qualified people who could be filling those jobs instead of illegals and non-citizens.
Part of the reason the H1-Bs can and do accept lower wages is that the employees often have their housing and/or food subsidized by their onshore-offshoring company.
Hell, if someone paid my mortgage, even part of it, and bought my food for me, even part of it, I could work for less, too.

H-1Bs can not claim any benefits (including unemployment, SS, medicare). And H-1Bs status is only valid for 6 years (3+3). If there ever was "taxation without representation", H-1Bs are it. And if an H-1B holder find an employer who is willing to sponsor them for green card and eventual citizenship, getting their parents legal status (H-1B => green card => us citizenship => parents us citizenship) takes around 20 years.
While I understand the urge to blame all the US job market troubles on H-1Bs, the truth is far too bitter. Americans themselves have turned their backs to their neighbours. Instead of buying local and supporting US based manufacturing, americans are buying cheap and imported. The blame for loss of manufacturing jobs lays with american people. Just like their votes, they have wasted their enormous purchasing power.

I did my share. I also realized that the system there was setup to serve the system itself and not the people.
As far as my H-1B work depriving someone else of a job, the only defence I can offer is that I went through the process in the midst of the tech boom when sorry to say people were jumping jobs for 10-20% raises and promises of stock options. They were not there. I was. I can not be held accountable if someone's greed and recklessness got them to make foolish choices.

Remodeling my home. Hired three mexicans standing in the group at the park.
In three days: Everything in my home was packed and put into two PODS. Carpet, padding and baseboards removed and disposed of. Dining room paneling removed, sheetrock removed and replaced, mudded, textured and painted. Ceiling fans in five rooms removed, celiing popcorn removed, texture applied. This is a 1600 sqft home, all one floor. Three guys working a total of seven hours a day at $10 per hour each. They busted their ass, I had to call for dumpster servicing twice, and when the driver got there, had to tip him $20 to wait for the guys to reload the dumpster. On top of that, I had to make a personal dump run because we were waiting on the dumpster to be emptied, so they loaded the back of my truck with the drywall. Fuck the $10 an hour, I pay them $100 a day each and supply lunch. Yesterday was tacos, today was McD cheeseburgers.
When our tile arrives, they know how to install it. I imagine they'll have it done within two days.
This is the first time I've hired some Mexicans to do work for me. I'm impressed.
Now, I hired two young, american, brothers as painters. I have a contract, I'm spending $2,600 (plus an additional $200 for a change order) to paint my house, inside and out. At the end of August, they managed to paint my house, however, it was after their day jobs, and then one of them, who's day job is working with my wife, had to go to a wedding for three days. The other brother didn't show up until this evening, the one who works with my wife showed up two hours later, but they managed to paint 80% of the interior.
If I had allowed the mexicans to do the painting it would have been 100% done this morning in about three hours.
I've said it before, I grew up in California, surrounded by mexican kids and their families. And I've always liked them. They were friendly and kind, and as a kid, there was never a mexican mom that, if it was lunchtime or a treat, that didn't make sure you sat your ass down to get some, too.
