What Will It Take To Set Off Your Alarm Bells?
Submitted by Tom Chatham via Project Chesapeake,
What does it take to make you sit up and take notice of the problems surrounding society today? What will it take to make you respond to the many crises taking place today? You have eyes so you can see and ears so you can hear but for many people any negative news is a reason to tune out the world and only think good thoughts.
The problems we face continue to pile up and doing nothing is not an option if you expect to survive the next few years in tact. Prior planning and execution of a plan is now required to stay out of the flood zone when the dam breaks and everyone starts to drown. It does not matter what kind of person you are. You have to be able to save yourself before you have the ability to help others including your own family.
You cannot protect your family if you cannot protect yourself from dangerous situations or people. You cannot protect your family if you are too weak from lack of water or food to get others to safety. You cannot protect your family from the elements if you have no cover for them due to sudden loss of your shelter.
You have car insurance just in case you have an automobile accident. You have health insurance just in case you get sick. You have life insurance to help your family just in case you die. You have homeowners insurance just in case your home is destroyed. There is unemployment insurance just in case you lose your job.
So where is your food insurance just in case you cannot find any food in the store? Where is your personal protection insurance just in case you are threatened and cannot depend on the police? Where is your water insurance just in case your water supply is shut off or becomes contaminated? Where is your communication insurance just in case the power is out and normal systems do not work? Where is your energy insurance just in case energy supplies are cut off and you need to drive to safety, cook your food or stay warm?
People think that the types of insurance for cars, health, home and life are just fine to have but the other ones listed are crazy and paranoid to think about. Even in the first case, your insurance policies depend on other people to fulfill them and those people depend on a system that is still functioning such as the banks, communications and the insurance company itself. So what happens to all those other types of insurance when the insurers themselves are no longer functioning. Any crisis that takes down the stock market, power grid or the banks will also take down all of the insurance companies.
The events of the past few weeks should have been a warning shot across the bow for many. Our financial and distribution systems are in a delicate balancing act right now and any sudden shifts could send them tumbling off the cliff rendering the services they perform extinct in a matter of hours. When that happens it will be too late to think about what you should have done when you still had the opportunity.
You cannot get your money out of the bank after the doors are shut, the ATM is empty and the POS systems are no longer working. You cannot get the food you need after the stores have been cleaned out and the distribution system has stopped functioning. You cannot get fuel for your car after the gas stations are empty and deliveries have been suspended. You cannot get police help when everyone calls 911 at the same time and most of the police have gone home to protect their own families.
If your alarm bells have not gone off already what will it take for you to realize you are in serious trouble? When that finally happens what do you plan to do to protect and care for your family? Having no plan means having a plan to suffer and persist through unpleasant situations for no good reason. Not knowing something is excusable but you have been warned many times in the past few years and to have to suffer in the future because you did not know what was coming is no longer an excuse. Failure to prepare at this time will not only cost you but it will likely put an unnecessary burden on those that will have to help you in the future.
The warnings continue to go out. The situation continues to deteriorate. The mass of humanity continues to go about its normal daily business. The Earth continues to rotate with no chance of going back from here. The early warning alarms have sounded advising people to take a defensive stance just in case. Do you hear the alarms yet or have you hit the snooze button for a few more minutes of sleep?

This week, another 9/11 anniversary date occurs. On September 11, 2001, the greatest loss of life at an individual business in the World Trade Center complex was at Cantor Fitzgerald, the financial firm located on the top three office floors of One World Trade Center. 658 employees of the firm died that day, horrible deaths.
Amazingly, Howard Lutnick, the CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald, was away from his desk. Always on the job micro-manager Lutnick was at Horace Mann School in the Bronx, where he said his son was starting the first day of kindergarten. That was a lie, unreported by the corrupt news media. From time immemorial, Horace Mann School has the new school year start of kindergarten and the meet and greet with new parents two days after Labor Day. In 2001, that date was Wednesday, September 5, 2001. The 2015 school schedule matches the weekday schedule of 2001. So why was Lutnick at Horace Mann in 2001 almost a week after the start of kindergarten, on September 11? Lutnick's brother Gregory died in the 9/11 attack yet Howard Lutnick, sworn to secrecy, did not warn his brother of the impending attack.

Seriously...?
Well... doesn't Wednesday the 5th come after Monday the 7th?
The world's leading climate scientists saying global desert is unavoidable? Being told that the current extinction rate may be 10,000 times the background extinction rate? Living in the most armed country in human history and being on the precipice of a race war? Certainly not. I'd say it would have to be spine chilling thought of Donald Trump's finger on the button.
My alarm bells went off in the 8th grade. I learned about how things grow exponentially, although I don't think our teacher understood it. After a few days and doing some homework ... I freaked out in class when it finally hit me.
I got sent to the principals office.
My old man is a finance major, so he was real proud. Patrilineally we are of Prussian descent, so we ran the trots, had some beers, and I have sort of been ok with it ever since.
Regards,
Cooter
I am a math major and my junior/senior electives were differential equations. (ODE, PDE, Systems of ODE, and Systems of PDE) One thing I DID learn that set off my alarm bells was that resources don't grow exponentially. That is why population curves have tops. These tops are pain and suffering for the creatures involved.
Yeah it's been referred to as the bidnezz cycle. They been fuken with the bidnezz cycle for the last 30 yrs.
Or 300. Last time it got real ugly some of my antecedents were thrown in chains and kept below decks for a 6 month one way trip to Terra Australis. Good job too ! How dare they steal a loaf of bread to feed family...
Nothing new under the sun my dad would say.
Yeah mine made it to Jamestown , later Kain tuk e . When my son stoped in heathrow on his way to Istanbul,he was the first (stant) to make it back there since the mid 1600s dad was shipped straight to France ww2
*YAWN*
My alarm bells burned out decades ago.
How many of you were old enough to remember drills of hiding under your desk in case the Soviet Union drops atomic bombs on us? As if the desks could withstand a nuclear blast and radioactive fallout.
I've been hearing doom for so long I forgot what the latest thing to be scared of was. Remember suitcase nukes after the Soviet Union collapsed? Remember impending asteroids? Remember landfills filling up? Remember the population bomb? Peak Oil? Y2K? Terrorism? You must buy a house now at all time highs or be priced out of the market forever back in 2006?
The American Brain Dead People still can't understand the collapse of Building Number 7 !
They don't realize that 9-11 was an inside job. The American People deserve what is on the way, they will be more than happy to bend over and grab their ankles.
You know it's too late when you wake from a nightmare and don't want to go back to sleep to see how it ends.
Actually those desks could withstand a nuclear war and protect you from nuclear fallout. My alarm bells went off and designed a school desk the size of north America and i purpose we place it over us and start poking other nuclear war capable countries with a stick just to prove that it works.
Listen to yourselves.
It's bidnith. Now hand my back mah fo'ty

Math major also in college. It's amazing how smart some of the famous mathematicians like Euler were - very humbling. Am wading through this first video in playlist on analytic number theory. Fascinating.

My PhD dissertation was focused on Piecewise Linear Optimization.
I was awful in math in school, I have come to really appreciate it but not enough to learn more for awhile.
I remember the first time I got seriously worried about where things were going; studying a Sustainable Development module in my degree and early in the course the professor laid down what he called 'one of the basics'. He said that under the current ways of working (this was in 1995) a doubling of population requires an approximate quadrupling of food production, 6 times the energy supply and around 8 times the money supply. It was a warning and a plea from an man who was getting too old to change the world but could see the problems coming and was desperate to open the eyes of the younger generation.
A good spot to reminisce about my most entertaining Poli-sci professor. Kenneth Organski. In 1969 he was cheerfully predicting that by the first decade of the next century Red China would surpass the USA as the world's greatest manufacturing powerhouse. His theories regarding macro-econonomics factored in demographics and population to a large degree. To be predicting that a commie country would ever beat the USA in anything back then took some big balls.
Many years ago my sister married into the 1% club.
She lucked out, met a great guy in an old money family, and has had a wonderful life.
In turn, this family is well tied into the national circle of power players... The ones who always seem to be somewhere else when the bad shit goes down.
When my sister's family bolts, that will set off my alarm bells.
Until then, buy the fucking dip. /SARC
Ahhh, now I see why you are always playing the anti semite card here at ZH. Let me guess, she married a nice Jewish guy who works on Wall Street?
Wrong. If anything, they are Catholic.
You certainly are revealing the core reason for your anti-Jew rants... It's all about the percieved money THEY have and YOU don't.
Keep trying, Bay of Dicks.
"Wrong. If anything, they are Catholic."
You know the family well yet you're unsure about their religious convictions? Too, your primary focus on ZH is routing out those opinions not perfectly aligned with your own religious convictions?
Curious.
I'm well trained in identifying suspects.
I take it English isn't your first language... Because if it is, you can't be well trained in anything. The trivium is the foundation.
My languish is non of your bussness. As is always the case with the jews, your tricks are on full display.
Calling me a Jew does nothing but expose your childish fears and ignorance.
"I take it English isn't your first language... Because if it is, you can't be well trained in anything. The trivium is the foundation."
Reading the posts on this site I get the strong impression few have English as a first language, or did most of you
just skip English classes...!
What part of that statement are you having difficulty comprehending? And though I didn't (often) skip English, I certainly never took typing classes, since there were proper secretaries back in the Dark Ages.
Relax ya got Kim's ass and Caitlyn's fake tits to look at , go long on baby parts futures. What could go wrong? Also with any luck Obama might marry a horse like Caligula did , oh wait
Obama promoted Senator Incitatus to Consul. Nero was piker by comparison.
Rat - I am worried about Putins finger than Trump. To me Putin is the new Geronimo but with nukes.
Anyways, I have warned as much as I can for years and Im told I helped some not lose wealth and get a bit mentally tougher. Did what I could.
Now it must be finishing preparations for my family, neighors and friends for what will come over the next few years.
At some point between now and 2021 I most likely will not be able to communicate with you folks or.vice versa so I say God bless you all and thank you for your time, your information and care.
I'll lurk a bit and add a comment or two weekends. I'll see you on the other side.
????? I just got paid $7500 working off my computer this month. And if you think that's cool, my divorced friend has twin toddlers and made over $8k her first month. It feels so good making so much money when other people have to work for so much less. This is what I do... www.wallstreet34.com
Didn't know you could make THAT much sucking cock all day.
must be banker cock
Maybe he just bend over in front of computer camera?
Don't forget about the twin toddlers.
Being that this is the Hedge we do know that if she was sucking cock in Cannes, banker cock or otherwise, she would be clearing way more than 7500 a month.
I am kind of anti-social, so depend on my family and few friends to keep me up to date on what is happening with the "Real Middle Class". Today I had a long conversation with one of my friends. He told me that almost all of the middle class is taking enormous hits to their net worth, jobs are hard to come by, and that they are pissed.
I was struck, almost like it was music, by Trump (who I previously never trusted, still do not really) when he said that he would build The Wall ("... and that it will look great!").
The bills for medical insurance are going to go up some 25% or maybe more in the new year. And they (.gov) are lying to us about inflation, and almost everything really.
Our country is in much more trouble than most believe. And CNBS, CNN and the others will not address our very real problems.
CNN and CNBC and all the others are owned by the same Khazarian Bankster Warlords , you read ZH you should know better!
Its the Brits:

When middle class folks can't even afford to buy some double row angular contact ball bearings, then it will truly be the end.
Only Dochenrollingbearing would return to ZH with another ball bearing avatar.
I have heard some rumblings from my upper middle class friends - several hundred $K per year, but offset by the fact that they live in expensive areas - California coast, DC, etc. - and have significant student loan burdens stemming from their professional degrees. Even they are starting to feel the pinch, and reducing non-essentials, e.g.:
1. Buying ice cream from the grocery store, instead of going to cold stone creamery
2. Buying slightly used (gasp) cars instead of new ones
3. Buying generic pet food from a big box store instead of the all-natural primo stuff only available through mail order
4. Deferring or outright canceling big ticket luxury items, like a boat, second vacation home, $50K rolex, country club membership...
Of course, these are trivial concerns compared to the minimum wage guy struggling just to buy milk, but the underlying psychology is the same. Something Bad(TM) is coming; have to hunker down.
The only ones still smiling are the 1% of the 1% - the 0.0001% - the "Ten Thousanders."
My avatar is actually an ounce of iridium metal, available like that from Rare World Metals Mint:

But, "38BWD22" is a double-row angular contact ball bearing for Toyota Probox, LOTS of those in Peru, none here.
EDIT: Ah, yes, your comments are spot-on with what I am learning. Ick.
Stupid me. I have to admit that I thought it was your bra size and waist dimensions. No, seriously.
(hangs head in shame)
I'm sorry.
38mm measures the ID of the bearing, 22 is the model number of the "BWD" type (NSK's numbering system, but we buy MBS's, cheaper but still made in Japan).

Reconized you on your first post. Why did you have to change the name? (After the FBI visit, OldPhart OutIn TheDesert no longer exists on facebook.) What was your mortal sin?
They force house accounts to re-engineer themselves every so often. DCRB declared that he had a severe drinking issue and ZH was the root of his problem, then he faded into the background.
The year was 2010 and one of the first posts about Greece was made by Tyler. One renegade commenter wrote about the virtues of applying grease to the woes of Greece and "BAM" DCRB was born. House account.
38 B(lack)/W(hite) D(ivorced) 22 (kids)
That would set of some alarm bells!
: )
About Trump's "wall." Should he actually win and build it, remember that walls can KEEP PEOPLE IN AS WELL AS KEEP PEOPLE OUT.? This is yet another great reason to consider leaving the US.
mental walls are far more effective than physical ones, and 95% of Americans are already penned in
Bring the soldiers home. Post them along the Rio Grande. Isn't defending our borders what "defense" is all about?
Nice thread hijack numbnuts
Dude, get over it.
Rich, powerful New York financiers have these things known as "mistresses". What the fuck was he supposed to say: I was banging Taffy over at the Sheraton while my employees were jumping to their deaths.
Oh, and I let me brother fry too.
Go back to the conspiracy theories about the OKC bombing and you will find them eerily congruent. Shaped charges. Patsy fall guys. People who were mysteriously ordered to not show up for work. Strange government exercises just days before the event.
Regardless of whether these theories are true or not, what can you do about it? Nothing. So don't waste your life obsessing over it. If society is about to disintegrate, focus on keeping the rain off your own head and not worrying about who pissed on somebody else's 14 years ago. It's out of our hands and in those of someone who will be sure that justice is served on whoever did the dirty deed.
That's the problem. They kill us,,, then call it a conspiracy theory and everyone says
"Get over it"
With this being the 'normal', why would they ever quit?
My point is a simple one. Each of us has limited resources and many battles yet to fight.
Only fight battles you can afford to fight and win.
Or, since this is Zero Hedge, only fight the battles with an expected return greater than the expense.
expected by whom? gandhi? edison?
Demigods
You're so damned right. Limited resources, many battles, and our opponent amassed billions of ammo using our tax money to suppress us twice over.
I sincerely hope RussNa send their hundreds of nukes to the scurry holes of our national 'leaders'. Eradication would earn them the title of 'Ultimate Pest Controller of the Year', they get a trophy and everyone pitches in $20.
Yet, you use your limited resources to gradually fund an armory.
Obfuscating that in more wordage in a random sentence.
Here's how to get out of debt.
Take your lowest payment, double it, pay it faithfully.
Take the money you were paying on that debt, once it's paid off and start paying off the next highest.
Pay it faithfully, once it's paid off, take the total combined and work on the third highest....pay it faithfully.
Continue as needed.
It's not too long that you are a free man.
Pass this around on 9/11 broadcast this Friday.

Maybe he wanted to be like G-Dub, and hang with his peers in kindy-garten?
What would it take to set off my alarm bells? A time machine and trip back 25 years.
MY personal alarm bells went off in 2008, with an icy bath of human shit thrown across my back.
Up til then I was a semi-zombie, looking at certain things, ignoring others...and, surprisingly I was not all that hungry for brains.
The shitshow of 2008, and the ice bath thrown over my ass by Connedgreased in reaction to it, definitely woke me the fuck up, shrug off the Zombie hypnosis, and started paying attention and going back to research that I ignored. ZH was a tremendous help, and the commentors even more so.
I had set my alarm bells to go off around 2020 back in 1986 or so, Congress looked at Social Security, discovered it was a Ponzie Scheme, shrugged their heads, and told us, collectively, to go fuck ourselves, we have to pay for our grandparents and parents.
I don't want my kids or grandkids to pay for me. Just give me all the money I paid into this goverment created fraud, with the annual interest over the years, and we're done I go to Lowe's.
Re: "Just give me all the money I paid into this goverment created fraud, with the annual interest over the years, and we're done."
Believe it or not, the Social Security Administration employs real live actuaries. Giving you back all the money you (and your employer) paid in is exactly what Social Security does on a statistical basis. Without the interest, of course, but at least adjusted by the cost of living, which is somewhat close to the same thing. The cost of administering the program is also deducted, which in the case of Social Security is a very small percentage.
Oh, and by the way, kids have always looked after their parents in their declining years, at least anywhere where the word "society" -- or even "tribe" for that matter -- means anything. Thus the old refrain:
First we're children to our parents, then we're parents to our children, then we're parents to our parents, then we're children to our children.
Life has its stages and each must be paid for by someone. Social security has many flaws, the most important being that people are living longer now and have many more productive years than in earlier times. This shortcoming must be and eventually will be addressed. But despite these flaws, it's one of the most important ways our society looks after its elderly while still allowing them some measure of independence. You should consider yourself lucky and blessed to have it.
I always try to remain "in tact."
Cutadickfrumme, best to idle the car behind the Men's Spa [enter in rear] (Yeah, really, Panama City, Florida). I spent six years as a voluntary EMT. [Don't know the name, but the sign was "God's last name is not 'Dammit']
I think I've told ZH about the time my wife and I found a drowned woman in a Bay County, FL channel between the gulf and a lake behind our [no longer existing] house. 3500 16th Avenue, Panama City, Flawed-DUH. We had a shithole, surrounded by mansions. Yes, I'm the definition of 'White Trash'.
So I'm headed to a titty bar nearby, and I'm crossing the bridge. I see a lady facedown in the water, fully clothed, but with pantyhose and panties at the ankles. I watch for a few minutes and she doesn't take a breathe. I walk back home, wake the wife, and ask her to come see what I saw.
We get to the bridge and she's a little freaked. [I did some horrible stuff as a volunteer EMT forthe Gulf County Ambulance Squad] I'm not freaked in anyway. I'm wondering why the body keeps swinging back and forth, whenwhere it was had a passive current.
Wife calls 911 and we then go back to the bridge; Watching this lady's ass wave back and forth. We cross the street, and on the other side of the road we see a mid-sized Harley,
My little mind is trying to link all this up. A biker chick came to under the bridge for a bit of hanky panky.
Wife and I cross back to the bay side of the bridge. EMS is poking the body with a stick. They manage to rol it over.
What I see is panties at the ankles, a sexy dress with nylongs, a full beard on the face, and about a thousand fish that were nibbling on his/it's dick, swinging him/it back and forth.
Wife leaned over, watching, until his face was visible, "Eww, that's gross."
Fuck that he was dead, humiliated and a public specticle...She didn't get to go to K-Mart or Dillards or where americans go to, which is where?
When Kim K and Honey Boo Boo have new episodes plus when Caitlyn gets a pussy installed, then we all can wake up. Not until then.
I do not know why so much concern about actions.
Much less with my country, Brazil.
We live in a city with 450,000 inhabitants near Brasilia, 4.5% unemployment rate.
The second largest pharmaceutical hub in Latin America, an Air Base, one Cargo Airport with 4.800m track.
I do not know anyone that has "action" on the Stock Exchange!
My children and relatives live in São Paulo and Paraná, no one has "actions".
All I know are employed and the unemployed were never more than two months in the situation.
You see in the US, 1,000 people complaining against the government today (07/09/2015).
I did not see the 80,000 people watching the military parade, Independence Day of Brazil!
Make no mistake, the Brazilians know what their government makes "color revolutions".
The blame will fall on you, Americans are accomplices of his government.
Be of good or evil, it is you who comes to fight.
There is no way to distinguish.
: - /
Some more, the press here that there is the same that is there.
The difference is that in Brazil went through many difficulties, dictatorship and other difficulties.
We talked a lot in the alcoves.
:-)
What I write is not an attack, it is a warning.
It is in the nature of people, the press and governments to blame others for their own problems.
Of the BRICS, I personally wish Brazil the best.
I'm awake.
But sometimes I can't stand it and have to go take a nap.
Exactly. It feels like the Twilight Zone, as most of the people around me just laugh, call me crazy, or actually get mad when I try to explain things to them. They don't want to hear it.
You tend to think that if people just knew what was really going on that they would prepare, or force change. But the truth is that the masses are unwilling and/or unable to perceive things as we do (I'm not arrogant enough to call it the truth).
I come to ZH for the sanity - I need to be reminded that I'm not alone in a sea of fucking crazy.
Try being a millenial and being in this same mindset.
I try talking to my parents..my friends..they lap up the MSM financial media lies and I try to bring it up to them and they're just like "oh it'll get better" ..
yeah, it WOULD get better if fucking .GOV would stop printing money and let the free market do it's thing.
What happens after this market imploision will make 2008 look like kids stuff.
BLood in the streets....is what I am seeing.
Yeah, I have this tendency to dig up the hard data and beat my relatives over the head with it. At this point, if they don't know what's going on, they don't want to.
Many of our other Indian friends have long-left USA. Those that don't either 1. can't or 2. don't want to see what is happening. As for the former, I wish them luck. As for the latter, I leave them be.
Sounds like a good reason to stay off the streets.
I know exactly where you are coming from. The world has gone insane:(
You ain't seen nothin yet.
Good lord, you come HERE for the sanity? I would have agreed with that 4 years ago, but certainly not today.
Whining about minimum wage and ebola, and praising Vladmir Putin and Donald Trump isn't my idea of sanity either.
This place is funny.

This is the last place I expected to find a quote from my favorite author. From "First Love":
“What mattered to me in my dispeopled kingdom, that in regard to which the disposition of my carcass was the merest and most futile of accidents, was supineness in the mind, the dulling of the self and of that residue of execrable frippery known as the non-self and even the world, for short.”
I bugged out ten years ago, and I only have two bags of popcorn left. May be a case of bad timing.
My alarm bells went off in 07 and have been ringing ever since !!!
1979 -- Jimmy Carter
I'm practically deaf now...
DCRB !!!
Wlecome back man, missed your presence !!!
(scrambled my old password when I was going near crazy giving up drinking, even ZH was dragging me down, but doing much better now)
Back at ya!!
Crap man, that means no drink at 50k ...
A virtual drink perhaps?
Or drop by, we'll go get a good cup of coffee. :)
Make it good coffee. Life's too short for cheap brew.
Yep, really good coffee!
You had me all interested in the green fairy too !!!
Dang! I could use a good cuppa right now!
Used to live out west where people knew what a really good cup of coffee was. Back east now. Sad...
GIVING UP DRINKING?? in this day and age with the flaming shitshow just starting to go hyper nova? ARE YOU FVKING CRAZY?? I wash down the downers with 190 proof everclear between huffs of the glue bag and am still freaking out.
Well, I hear you re these days, but in my case I HAD to give it up. I was not going in a good direction...
ZH is not your friend on that journey.
I have to give it up for that one...
"glue bag..."
+1
Gotta have a sense of humor.

One of my original sponsors pointed out that recovering alcoholics stay sober at inappropriate times. Deaths, births, job crises, and all those "normal times to have a drink" are when we have our heads on straight. It's folly to do otherwise. And while we're at it, why not just give it up altogether. I've saved a huge amount of money, found time I didn't realize was being lost, and I know where my car is all the time.
And don't have to worry about flashing blue lights behind us...
a decent period of sobriety, enhances your comprehensive skills. I may be powerless to change things, but I understand whats going on around me.
GOOD - I am pretty much done drinking. I have embraced the horror.

Yea 2007 was the year I finally figured out it was never coming back too.
I know this sounds strange, but I have somehow known my whole life since I was a teenager that I would serve absolutely no purpose in my entire life, until I was an old man, and then I was going to have to teach a bunch of ignorant fucks how to survive with absolutely nothing at the end of my time with all the forgotten knowledge I have gathered. This would be my only purpose.
Ive had this strange dream over and over through the years of me coming upon another man alone by a river working really hard to try and survive. We are both extremely happy to see each other just to know that someone else had made it too; with respect to the point of tears knowing we both survived and most did not.
I never knew what to make of it until lately. OR, I could be just a dumb Indian. i dunno.
Another one that has had the Oz dream. [same here]
Interesting how 2007 was also the year in which hubby and I decided to look for a new country to live. It was in 2007 that we just a gut feeling/Holy Spirit awakening/eye opening - whatever you want to call it - to what was happening and realized that it was NOT going to get better and would only get worse.
I don't know what brought it on. Just one day in the spring we had that feeling that perhaps, for ourselves and our kids' sake, we should uproot ourselves again, and get the hell out. And get the hell out we did!
My warning bells went off years ago. I am now atempting to have some fun again before the SHTF. Hopefully we all can enjoy what normal time we have left. We have had years of advanced notification.
If I were you I would be planning an escape before the doors are slammed shut.
No reason we can't keep enjoying our lives even if the SHTF, given that we're willing to adjust beforehand.
I'm so alarmed I went and bought a few more 100-can cases of sardines this weekend.
I will be eating like a king after the SHTF.
... Until the 100 cans are gone. You might consider planting a garden and buying a wood stove...
I think car insurance is a total scam unless you're driving a high dollar vehicle. For good drivers like myself it's effectively getting-arrested-for-driving-without-insurance insurance. If I could get the money I've been forced to waste in auto insurance back, I could buy a Rolls Royce.
I just want all the money the thieving bastards took from me force ably for fica, medicare, income tax, sales tax, the taxes tax, the unemployment/underemployment tax. FSA tax, cigs and booze tax, muderfvking thieves anyway. When the bastards forced me to get a social security number back in 1972 is when the alarms went off and I been getting screwed ever since.
FFS, auto insurance is probably one of the few markets left that is actually a market with competition and priced reasonably.
Want to save money? But an old car, have a clear title so the lender doesn't demand a certain level of insurance, and carry liability only in a small sum ... and don't live in a shitty neighborhood full of insurance fraud.
Simple.
How you got 9 up-votes for that crap on ZH (at the time of my posting) I will never know.

Insurance is redistribution. One person's cost being paid by another. Debt again driving markets that otherwise would not exist on anything like the level we now see. Insurance for cars and homes as well as other items has been pushed by lenders. I'm in the process of looking at alternative insurance policies for my business and the insurance company forces me to insure the building at replacement cost as this is what is required by most lenders....even though I own my building. Insurance is a tool of the devil in my book as it at best redistributes and at worst attempts to disguise or conceal real risk....risk that is important to prevent consequences that an ensured person would not give a second thought. Further, insurance is driven by financial circumstances that leave people unable to deal with loss as the have no savings or ability to pay. We see this with the rise of home warranties where people will buy insurance for major appliances as they can't afford to pay for repairs that might be required. We are constantly being sold insurance as a hedge against risk while doing NOTHING to actually minimize or eliminate the actual risk.
"Insurance is redistribution. "
Correct.
And Gubmint mandated insurance, of any sort, is extortion.
Gubmint mandates = extortion = highwaymen.
How you got 9 up-votes for that crap on ZH (at the time of my posting) I will never know.
Because it is a SCAM and look someone down voted you!!!!!!!!!
Being involved in an accident caused by an uninsured motorist is just no fun.
Once the medicare trust fund is empty.
REVOLUTION!
My biggest concern is being in shape for the Verteran's Day International Marathon in Santa Barbara this year. I'm up to a half but not ready for the full run yet.
"What does it take to make you sit up and take notice of the problems surrounding society today"
Watching law enforcement become criminals robbing / killing citizens and protecting treasonous government.
Insert "steroid crazed" between "Watching" and "law enforcement".
Lets ride this horse it wont get better till it hits bottom ,roll the dice!
While I have always had an innate sense that things were going to crash in my lifetime, I knew for sure that the meter was running on the night of the 2012 election. Once it was clear that Obama would be re-elected, I recognized that we had just whiffed on our last chance to alter course and we were going down.
Down it is. And I've been seriously concentrating on being as ready as possible for the main event ever since. Stopped worrying about money-- except insofar as I need funds for my various projects. I think of this current moment in time as similar to what the country was going through in the run-up to Pearl Harbor. War was inevitable. Some people did the best they could to get as ready as they could in the time they were granted to prepare. Others hung out at the soda fountain and read movie magazines.
I plan on being far away from the soda fountain and the movie theater on Der Tag.
Lessee.. 315 million starving ameicans, 125+ million starving mexicans, 25 + million starving canadians.. and 20 t0 30 million starving illegals, going to be pretty tough to hide from that many zombies. Just get a good recipe for people jerky and make bank?
At the crossroads that lead east to my home, I plan on erecting a sign:
"Bob's Titty Bar, Grocery, and Gas Emporium"
With a finger board pointing to the north.
It all starts with a good plan for the fan, my man.
I am storing a can of red spray paint to go to both sides of town and where it says "entering ____" I am going to overwrite BARTER-TOWN and go set up a table on main street.
If that doesn't work, you could try writing: FEMA Camp, next exit.
Yeah but atleast back then the war was in Europe and not on the US.
The US is going to be a blood bath.
Mad Max will look tame by comparison.
I've studied the Fil-American defense and subsequent resistance to the Japanese invasion of the Philippines in 1941, which offers many useful guidelines as to what will happen to a reasonably modern and Americanized society under full wartime conditions.
Yes, it will be bad. Probably worse than any of us would even want to imagine.
And that last Mad Max movie totally sucked. Glad Mel Gibson wasn't taken down with it.
That plus 74 years of technology advancement.
Very true. Winston Churchill warned of the possibilities inherent in perverted science even back then.
In many ways, an EMP attack might turn out to be a real blessing, even if we are left to deal bare-handed with people as fiendish as the Imperial Japanese Army was.
Ron Paul was our last great hope back then in my mind. I'm still hoping but Trump is very depressing.
Tarabel,
Did you think Romney was the answer? A serious question.
And a serious answer...
I supported Romney for several reasons:
1) Any effort at turning away from the course Obama had set would be a sign that the country was coming to its senses.
2) On paper, Romney had a skill set that seemed tailor-made for extracting the United States from the mess it was and is in. His entire professional life was built around taking over fucked-up entities and turning them around-- both private and public. It may have all been an act and the reality may have turned out quite differently, as is often the case with politicians. But I would have preferred to have given him a chance.
3) I think in his own way he was a decent man and human being, in any case far superior a specimen to the only other likely alternative.
Love Ron Paul, who apparently has actually read the US Consittution with some purpose in mind other than looking for loopholes. But he was not a good tactician and foolishly allowed himself to be pigeonholed as a sort of right-wing Lyndon LaRouche.
I think Rand is playing a more careful game of preserving his acceptability with the general public and hoping for the chance to "come out of the closet" and pick up his father's fallen standard. This makes him take positions that I do not believe he truly holds and ends up disappointing the die-hards who do not see the tactical necessity he is under.
Like Cruz. Like Walker, who has shown practical chops. Can hang with Trump but fear that he will sell everyone out in the end. New York deal-maker born and bred. Hope I'm wrong.
But I think it's too late now to avoid trouble. We are already in the rapids. Not having a luciferian acolyte at the helm would be a bonus, but our only hope now is to ride the storm out-- not avoid it as we might possibly have managed in 2012.
The same advisors who implore you to get health, car, life and home insurance claiming them to be prudent investments, belittle these alternative insurance allocations (metals included). Last I checked, my driving risk hedge (car insurance) expires worthless every 6 months and must be renewed. In truth, a lousy investment until it's needed. No different than mitigating risk with invenstment in other alternative forms of "insurance". Each person must decide if they're being paranoid or being prudent.
WTF is up with nut jobs and CAR INSURANCE in this thread? Of all the shit this nation faces, I can't think of another industry that is so low on the totem pole.
Car insurance is a legitimate INSURANCE business model where risk is spread across a pool, money collected from the pool, and benefits paid out and small profit collected. If you live in a shitty neighborhood, you pay more. If you are a 19 year old male, you pay more. If you are 70 and have your first accident in 35 years, you pay more. Because you COST more to the pool in terms of risk.
Tired of paying insurance premiums? Buy an old car. Pay cash. Get liability insurance (minimum). Keep a sock full of cash to buy a replacement car if you (or someone else) wrecks it.
Trust me. I would LOVE to own a 1970s model highboy, sink 15k into engine/motor/body and drive that son of a bitch until god sends jesus back down, but the insurance companies are only gonna pay book value, which is crap. So take that, roll with it, get an old junker, get liability, and STOP BITCHING.
We have real problems.
Retards.

I really have to start writing some of these down...

My Honda XR400 will still be running when Jesus gets here.
Went dirt bike riding yesterday and flogged the shit out of it. Burned 13 gallons of gas transporting the red beast, and 1.5 gallons went into the atmosphere as heat and CO2, just because.
Sometimes, dropping the clutch, shooting a huge roost, riding a mondo wheelie, adn then getting some big air really is therapeutic.
All this doom shit... Been doing that for 11 years now. Prepped, relocated, and now just enjoying the delcine.
Thumpin' all the way down.
Don't forget the most important part of that "legitimate business model", which is buying legislators and judges to alter the laws after you collect the premiums and place them in reserve so that the actual losses never come close to the projections made under former laws, so that the company can book enormous undeserved profits despite being one of the most heavily regulated industries on planet earth.
My alarm bells went off in 1979 after I graduated from high school, got out into the so-called real world and discovered it was all bullshit. They've been background noise ever since.
High Skoo was a bunch of BS too...
True. But it does it's job of keeping all those teens that they don't know what to do with off the streets. Plus it serves as a sorting chute: these guys here are good cannon fodder for the next banker war, those are good minions for the oligarchs, these are good unquestioning employees, etc...
Last week I renewed my duty to my family by purchasing 200 rolls of toilet paper. Told my wife that we would be the last to shit in style, Charmin no less!
All she wanted to know is if the still still worked.
Plumbers say Charmin is the worst brand of TP re: clogging the pipes up.
That's only a problem if you use more than one sheet and have a sewer system that works
I've been awake for so long, I'm starting to think it's better to be one day late.
Every person you try to convince to become a prepper,,, says in their head.. hey that guy is a prepper if things get bad i will just go lean on him...
i ask my friends all the time.. what would have to happen for you to take every dollar you have, and run down to the store and buy all the food you could..
No one can survive Armageddon.. just plan on surviving 2 weeks of total chaos...
I'm with you on that strategy. Get out of the way for 2-4 weeks while all of the assholes sort themselves out. It may be safe to come back then, or you may have to move on. Flexibility and adaptation will be key. A low profile will help too. Let go of the ego and attachment to things that don't matter. Easier said than done for a large swath of the population.
