What Will It Take To Set Off Your Alarm Bells?

What does it take to make you sit up and take notice of the problems surrounding society today? What will it take to make you respond to the many crises taking place today? You have eyes so you can see and ears so you can hear but for many people any negative news is a reason to tune out the world and only think good thoughts.
The problems we face continue to pile up and doing nothing is not an option if you expect to survive the next few years in tact. Prior planning and execution of a plan is now required to stay out of the flood zone when the dam breaks and everyone starts to drown. It does not matter what kind of person you are. You have to be able to save yourself before you have the ability to help others including your own family.
You cannot protect your family if you cannot protect yourself from dangerous situations or people. You cannot protect your family if you are too weak from lack of water or food to get others to safety. You cannot protect your family from the elements if you have no cover for them due to sudden loss of your shelter.
You have car insurance just in case you have an automobile accident. You have health insurance just in case you get sick. You have life insurance to help your family just in case you die. You have homeowners insurance just in case your home is destroyed. There is unemployment insurance just in case you lose your job.
So where is your food insurance just in case you cannot find any food in the store? Where is your personal protection insurance just in case you are threatened and cannot depend on the police? Where is your water insurance just in case your water supply is shut off or becomes contaminated? Where is your communication insurance just in case the power is out and normal systems do not work? Where is your energy insurance just in case energy supplies are cut off and you need to drive to safety, cook your food or stay warm?
People think that the types of insurance for cars, health, home and life are just fine to have but the other ones listed are crazy and paranoid to think about. Even in the first case, your insurance policies depend on other people to fulfill them and those people depend on a system that is still functioning such as the banks, communications and the insurance company itself. So what happens to all those other types of insurance when the insurers themselves are no longer functioning. Any crisis that takes down the stock market, power grid or the banks will also take down all of the insurance companies.
The events of the past few weeks should have been a warning shot across the bow for many. Our financial and distribution systems are in a delicate balancing act right now and any sudden shifts could send them tumbling off the cliff rendering the services they perform extinct in a matter of hours. When that happens it will be too late to think about what you should have done when you still had the opportunity.
You cannot get your money out of the bank after the doors are shut, the ATM is empty and the POS systems are no longer working. You cannot get the food you need after the stores have been cleaned out and the distribution system has stopped functioning. You cannot get fuel for your car after the gas stations are empty and deliveries have been suspended. You cannot get police help when everyone calls 911 at the same time and most of the police have gone home to protect their own families.
If your alarm bells have not gone off already what will it take for you to realize you are in serious trouble? When that finally happens what do you plan to do to protect and care for your family? Having no plan means having a plan to suffer and persist through unpleasant situations for no good reason. Not knowing something is excusable but you have been warned many times in the past few years and to have to suffer in the future because you did not know what was coming is no longer an excuse. Failure to prepare at this time will not only cost you but it will likely put an unnecessary burden on those that will have to help you in the future.
The warnings continue to go out. The situation continues to deteriorate. The mass of humanity continues to go about its normal daily business. The Earth continues to rotate with no chance of going back from here. The early warning alarms have sounded advising people to take a defensive stance just in case. Do you hear the alarms yet or have you hit the snooze button for a few more minutes of sleep?

My alarm bells have been ringing forever but I'm not too worried about food and water I'm more worried about violence, weird staged hemorrhagic disease outbreaks and loss of liberty. I've always suspected that if this country fell it would likely involve bioweaponry and forced quarantine laws. When that staged Ebola outbreak went down I got a very cold chill, I felt like it was time to be alarmed and time to leave the US.

I have considered leaving the US but cant come to agreement on where to run to. The last thought I want to enter my mind right before the lights go out is " Damn I wish I had a gun." THAT wont happen here.
Exactly, who wants to go where you can't defend yourself. Not to be gross but I just read an article (possibly a propaganda piece) where they were talking about ISIS and their forced sex slaves, how they were selling girls from a year old and up and the graphic sick things they were doing. Regardless of whether that is happening or not, it could happen here or anywhere else under a Mad Max scenario with the psychopaths we have in power. Guess what? Homey the clown don't play that shit!

My plan has always been to be as functional as possible with the tools and expertise to be helpful within a system of groups banding together to remain as civilized as possible. No amount of firepower will overcome threats bigger than you. And there WILL be threats bigger than you.
No amount of PM will last long either, for NO ONE can tell you today what available things will cost tomorrow. Stacking today, in lieu of much more useful purposes of limited capital (if you have any to start with), is really a waste. In tight times, without productive equipment and skill, you're done when your stack is gone. Then what?
To survive any calamity requires internal change most won't make. In every survivor's story, there is ultimately reliance on power very external to this world.
You can't insure against everything, but you CAN learn to cope with just about anything...if you're running on something other than self-sufficiency.
We'll need each other; we won't make it alone...

People have been screaming about the imminent End of the World for thousands of years, and it never happens. It's something built into the human psyche, I think -- something between incredulity, awe, and misanthropy. Most people are susceptible to it, which is why it's present in nearly all religions. But once you abandon emotional reasoning and think critically, you realize it's either bullshit, or it doesn't matter.

My parents went through the Great Depression and WWII. My father believed another Great Depression was, always, just around the corner and prepared for it his entire life. When I was 8 yo, he would bring me to town hall meetings. In 1960, he dug a hole under the basement, just in case. My alarm bells went off in 1956. It's just a matter of time.

We also got the message and got the hell out of USA a few years back. That was, believe me, the BEST THING WE EVER DID - not only for ourselves but our sons as well. We immigrated to Singapore and while this place is not the best, it is far, far better than anything we had to endure in USA.
When either of my boys are late coming home, the thought that they are either kidnapped, shot, mugged, etc. does not enter my mind. If my husband, an IT pro, loses his job, it will be tough but he will be able to find something else here, unlike USA where after 45 you are washed up in IT. (And forget that propaganda that they are starving for IT workers and so they need to import them. All BS to keep the wages low.)
Yes, buying our one-way tickets was a very happy experience in itself. Selling the house in NJ was another. We took a small loss but it was worth it. We are free!

I do not suffer from selective hearing and hear loud and clear many alarm bells. I just wish that I had enough dollars to buy my way out of what is coming our way.
Yes. It turns out that to do the job right, you need enough money in the first place. Everyone tries to get there, but only a few have the resources or the time to get it all done. It would be nice to stockpile a years worth of food. It would be nice to have a decent fallout shelter for the first six months of the nuclear war we'll probably have in the next three years. I'm sure many ZH readers realize what's going on, but even all ZH readers can't be ready 100%. But I would say it's better to at least be informed and knowlegeable about what's coming. You do what you can do. That's all you can do.
In the 50s, people built nuke shelters in their backyards, and even in the 70s schoolchildren practiced hiding under their desks from the mushroom clouds.
Fortunately for them it didn't happen, because none of their plans would have worked.
The people that will survive a disaster are not the preppers, who think they can imagine the future. The ones that will survive are those that can adapt and cooperate with each other in groups.
No isolated misanthropes wil survive. Whatever you stockpile will simply be taken from you when you're murdered by a cooperative group that forms in the wake of the catastrophe, not before it.
The entertaining thing about preppers is that they think they can prepare for a black swan. By definition, you can't, because the disaster is not something that you can imagine or foresee. But it makes for good business for PM hawkers and prepper websites, I suppose.

When a nuclear holocaust seemed likely in the 1960s/1970s, I realised living near Heathrow airport i was just fucked.
It would be a target and there was not much I could do about it.
Who would want to live in the world after anyway, vapourisation was the best option.
The Russians made plans to ensure that it would be difficult to unwind the Soviet Empire by building various factories in different parts of the empire.
Right shoes and left shoes were made in different parts of the Soviet Union to make it difficult to unwind.
Globalisation has a similar design with different countries specialising in different things with manufacturing occurring in the Far East.
When it falls apart there will be chaos, the biggest manufacturing nation has very few natural resources to stoke its factories.
Even for preppers, armed gangs looking to take you stuff will be over-whelming.

Eventual hyperinflation or a deflationary bust... one or the other, and after the fact the outcome is pretty much the same: a f%^&ing ugly sight.

Sure the current financial system is finished, its only a matter of time until it fails, but guess what, a new one will raise up in its place.. All that needs to be done to protect against a financial collapse is have enough heating supplies for the winter because oil will become scarce for a while, therefore expensive. If you live in the city have enough cash to cover heating bills 3times their current price.
Convert some fiat into gold as inflation insurance over the long term - and finally get out more and live your life.

Yet another surfer was attacked by a shark this morning in New South Wales and his hand bitten.
The attacks are now so common that the media are giving them less air time, plus it's scaring the tourists away. This time the guy had just entered the water and gone in only about 15 feet from the beach and was immediately attacked by a shark. Got out again and lived to talk about it.
Our spineless governments and authorities remain paralyzed by radial greenies and bleeding heart media and big mouth misanthropic alleged 'scientists', while the tourism industry is being literally closed down, and few locals who surfed all their lives are even game to go out into the surf any more.
