Android 'Porn App' Secretly Snaps Photos, Blackmails Users
Forget nuclear facility sabotage; ignore stock market glitches; the world of cyber-threats just got serious. As The Telegraph reports, an Android app virus seduces users by promising porn but takes compromising photos of them to use as blackmail. The 'ransomware' demands a ransom of $500 (paid via PayPal) and warns "your device has been blocked for safety reasons listed below. All your files are encrypted. You are accused of viewing/storage and/or dissemination of banned pornography."
American security firm Zscaler found that "Adult Player" lures victims by promising pornographic video.
When the victim starts using it, the app silently takes a compromising photo of the victim, which is then displayed on the screen, along with a ransom message.
The app demands a ransom of $500 (£326) to be paid via PayPal.
Once the app has taken its photo of the user, it sends their mobile device and operating system information to a remote server, where a personalised ransom note is created. It looks something like this:
The red warning note claims “Your device has been blocked for safety reasons listed below. All your files are encrypted. You are accused of viewing/storage and/or dissemination of banned pornography (child pornography/zoophilia/rape etc.)”
It then asks for “fine” to be paid. The ransom screen is designed to stay persistent even if you reboot your phone. It does not allow you to operate your device and keeps the screen active with ransom message.
Just in case you need to know how to avoid this kind of scam - asking for a friend - Zscaler explains there is a way to get rid of the malicious software without paying up.
The phone should be booted up in safe mode, where - once in device administrator mode - the app can be selected and disabled.
To avoid becoming a victim of such ransomware, you can stay safe by downloading apps only from trusted app stores, like Google Play. This can be enforced by unchecking the option of "Unknown Sources" under the "Security" settings of your device.

Given the populist rhetoric spewing from the presidential candidates (and urge to capture the younger demographic's vote), this would seem like a slam-dunk for any administration's cyber-crime unit.

Fuck "apps" and fuck porn - vile shit, the both of 'em.
I can't say I'd ever trust a man if he doesn't swear now and then, and if he doesn't pull his meat to some naked lady pics now and then.
Also - fuck apps?
what are you, a neo-Luddite?
See todja! They own the shit.
Go Luddite or die trying
"Your device has been blocked up". Indian or UK malware source.
Getting caught in the Vinegar Strokes viewing Donkey Porn is a tough one to explain.
Especialy right after that Ashley Madison "research" I was doing.

OMG!! HaX0rs! We loves yous! (but why teh **** would you demand payment via PayPal???)
The Money Shot!
It's truly heartwarming when, through dint of hard work and perseverence, that private enterprise catches up to the NSA/CIA/FBI/MI6/MI5/Mossad & FSB.
I was wondering what was wrong with my phone. Time to get a new one.
This might shut down the entire SEC mobile phone network. BASTARDS!
Just to be safe, from now on I read ZH wearing a mask, especially when sporting a full erection.
"No... that wasn't mine..."
I'm not concerned about my own anonymity, but I will make little privacy masks for the gerbils that slide down my thighs.
easier solution is to black-tape the camera lens.
Practice safe surfing!
Also note that if you do get it and it encrypts your files, you can probably contact Google to get the synced version of your files rolled back on their servers, disconnect the account from the phone, then clear the malware off your phone, reconnect the account, and voila, unencrypted docs synced back.
You see bootstraps, I see side-jobs. ;)
Obama had better NOT pay any part of his gay porn blackmail fee from my tax dollars.
He uses his private home server for that. You only pay for the Whitehouse IT guy that has to maintain it.
Guess Puerto Rico is out.
One down.
It was these damned Russian spies
The knitting mills are taking away our lively hood.
These apps are fubar.
Yup, luddite is not the correct insult in your last sorta sentence.
Might want to try anti progressive or anti application as as a substitute.
If it ain't children, now under the age of thirty, it's none of your internet business model , except in the case of legitimate blackmail.
Father wasn't around and mother did not nurture you and now you are paying the price by your own words; yet you tell yourself it is well, when you are living a hell and headed in the same. May the LORD take pity on you for His namesake; he did me and I was in that same boat.
Agreed; I would add the abuse of language. Seems to escape most people's notice that the direction of the use of language goes; so goes that nation. Because out of the mouth the inward person/man speaks & is a reflection of that man's character oor lack of character. The tongue is like a rudder on a ship. Our nations use of English is no longer recognizable and neither is the nation over the past 15, 20, & 40 years. Obviously a moral issue.
Of course it is morals; back in the old days they used to send a chick off to her Aunt's when she became pregnant, lobotomized retarded people, etc.
It's the money system.
Stop longing for the days that never existed outside of someone's carefully crafted Matrix.

But if I stop pining for days that never were, and never will be, how will I motivate myself to keep putting in these 60 hour weeks?
Lite beer and a week at the lake with the upgraded pontoon boat rental thrown in.
And toss in fantasy football.

Fuck that shit.
I agree porn was never a good idea and neither were cell phones.
tools of destruction.
They say 90& of men look at porn monthly or more. That's sad.
"The Internet is for Pron!"
Doh!
And leveraging the Ashley Madison database they now can send targeted invitations to millions of nitwits.
"targeted invitations" == flame to the moths.
This app has been approved by Hillary Clinton for President
And Anthony Weiner, "PR expert".
Obligatory: Huma and Hildog are 'partners'.
The only question is, who straps it on?
Huma?
Hillary?
Or both?
(sorry to anyone that gagged, reading this post)
Better question: Does Huma strap it on for Weiner?
And now we know why the SEC suddenly has time to prosecute small time Wall street criminals.
Can you believe all the pics of Senior SEC Enforcement Division Attorneys they have rubbing 'em off to tranny porn?
Zounds! Between them and the NSA, could be nice to be information king.
New and Improved J Edgar Files (In a dress)
And Perry Mason...
If people want to see my cock so be it. Sometimes I fuck pumpkins and record it on my android device and I'm not ashamed.
I reserve my "punkin' fuck dance" for weddings and bah mitzvahs only; and then only at one of these specific functions when in Bar Harbor, ME.
I'm getting old and cranky.
functions at one of the remaining "cottages" no doubt.
Okay, I had to upvote this.
<still giggling>

Two people with a bit of morality left; the rest are headed directly for outer darkness.
You must be a hoot to hang out with. At least the outer darkness won't be filled with morally superior beings.
BTW, I doubt God really checks the ratios of upvotes to downvotes when it comes to morality.
That is a human kinda thing.

Every time someone fucks a pumpkin, an angel loses its wings.
Good to see you brother!
:D

"Sometimes I fuck pumpkins and record it on my android device and I'm not ashamed."
We can see that you wouldn't be ashamed, but if the camera took a picture of you fucking Gherkins, you would be.
The NSA has been blackmailing people with similar stuff for decades. It's fine and dandy when the NSA does it.
Wonder what the NSA has on Hollande? And Merkel? And Cameron? They are such obedient US poodles.
Who says this isn't the NSA....Just sayin!
Cool.
Glad I didn't think of that.
I've got news for you - a lot of your apps secretly snap photos, or at very least copy your existing photos.
And mostly they don't tell you a damned thing about it.
I'm no expert, but Windows 10 was probably developed *with* the NSA.
inter alia.
Shortly after installing Windows 10 on my laptop I went into the privacy settings and was AMAZED at not only how many there were (pages) but what all functionality is involved. It is surprising there isn't an uproar from users.
They're all telescreens at this point, but Windows 10 actually displayed Big Brother's face on my screen and tried to force me to do morning calisthenics.
I promptly lit a Victory brand cigarette, downed a full glass of Victory brand gin and reverted back to Windows 8.1.

Microsoft launched the latest version of its Windows operating system (OS) on July 29, promoting the event as the largest software update ever. Unlike previous releases, the new version has been offered by Microsoft to all domestic users as a free upgrade. Over 14 million users are reported to have downloaded and installed it within the first 24 hours of its release.
One question that remains unanswered, however, is: out of the 14 million who upgraded in the first 24 hours, how many had the time to read and study the 45 page privacy policy and service agreement in the End User License Agreement (EULA) prior to installation?
Following the customary corporate fanfare that generally accompanies a Windows OS release, reports rapidly emerged about marked changes to the company’s privacy policy and service agreement. The new agreement, by default, effectively gives permission for Microsoft to monitor users’ activities via the use of keylogger type spyware.
Spyware is software that enables the information about a computer and the activities that take place on it to be transmitted covertly from their hard drive to another computer. A keylogger is a type of spyware or surveillance software created to log every keystroke made on the infected machine.
A keylogger like the one in Windows 10 can record instant messages, emails, search requests, credit card details, the contents of documents and spreadsheets, or anything else that is typed on a keyboard. The log file created by the keylogger can then be sent to the designated receiver, in this case Microsoft.

All WINDOWS programs/OS have these "open doors" and the chip makers have "back doors" and AAPL is no different and uses the same chip makers. Privacy does not and has not existed for a very long time. What do you think the TSA was designed for; many things, but one is to collect data at a very personal level. That should not bother people; what should is that the King of kings sees and knows everything about you and that is a real problem apart from reconciliation.
@croc
Never underestimate the incompetence of structured government. I seriously doubt TPTB could execute orders to go after someone based on info that was in a database. PERIOD. Compares to sending police to the hood @ 3am in response to a break-in. AINT GONNA HAPPEN. The exception would be murder in the hood and some sort of malitia uprising over the web
My HTC phone snapped a pic of me the first time I turned it on(this was several yrs ago), and the pic vanished shortly after. It was never even deposited to the pic folder, though it did show up for a few hrs in the recent apps list. Creepy as fuck is an understatement.
Agreed, especially when you first buy your phone and you ask the T-mobile salesperson to register the phone for you. I takes a photo and saves it on T-mobiles servers. The phone comes pre-config'ed with network on and cameras running until it officially becomes yours it belongs to them.
I blackout all cameras and small mystery holes in my celly with duct tape.
"Load money."
snicker...snicker...
(insert Hank Paulson bellowing laughter track here) BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
So they wait for you to fap to their porn and take a pic of you fapping?
If the victims of this scam were truly guilty of - viewing/storage and or dissemination of banned pornography (child pornography/zoophilia/rape etc) - then I say they deserve what they got.
Said Joe Dipshit of Fucktard Alley.
Come on - child porn ? They deserve worse than they got.
Ask the UK where it all is and who has the largest supply LoL

Scamers indeed LoL
They will and so will you as well for the standard by which we will be judged is "moral perfection"; I know of know one who meets the standard...do you?
Could you just crawl back under your damp stone please.
You know less about crocodiles than you do of the Lord, but the latter you will acknowledge in this life or the one to come.
Ran a search on a Windows laptop based on the user name. Absolutely shocked with the thousands of 'hits' that came up showing earlier versions of documents, images, music, web links, etc. Even worse are dozens of ad links for sites I never visited but probably were on pages of websites like ZH -- stored for ANY web site or app to find and exploit. Only safe way to surf is with an iPad or tablet that you have NOTHING set up on and that you totally WIPE or Reset regularly. Once you link an email or phone number (stored anywhere on your device), your data and privacy are violated.
Perhaps this is an AAPL ploy? Data & Privacy are not violated when you give permission to be "violated"; every app and 3rd party software has a privacy policy that says you agree to give up that privacy. The devil is in the details and I challenge anyone to look at any of those policies and find one that does not. Even when you pay bills online and certainly when you purchase online; like AMAZON.
A fool and his privacy soon depart.
All your Weiner are belong to us.
I need a photo of John Kerry in such a compromised state of being to keep the spiders out of the house.
A photo, any photo, will do the job. But it attracts the snakes.
And Potatoe bugs that encourage spiders.
a vicious cycle.
The NSA isn't going to appreciate anyone who chills blackmailable internet behavior.
That's why they so want to "get" Snowden.
NSA test run to see what kind of reaction. The people who are paying must have a very active and guilty conscience as opposed to a guilty and low-functioning conscience.
Not an addled thought , there.
knew i shudda kept my flip-phone
I have an LG Acolade that I paid $3 USD for years ago. Works great - and it is small.
so funny u say that - everytime they show the unemployment line pictures, illegal immigrants trying to get into the U.S. because of poor economic conditions, people on welfare line, etc - the first thing out of my girls mouth is "i count X amount of people on iphones ... hmmm, how does that fit???"
They need a vast, vast pool of potential future patsies. Hence the welfare phones. A patsy can't be some rich kid who can afford lawyers and/or a media platform.
The other reason is that it quells the pangs of economic inequality in the poor, while simultaneously directing the "haves" towards their false enemy, the "have-nots".
And that's just 3 reasons. There are many more mundane ones, like paying the NSA database maintenance workers for storing the shit in the first place. Jerbs!!
I am retired in Mexico. You would be surprised at how many little children (maybe 4-5 years old) have cell-phones. The phones are bigger than their hands. For me - phones and pagers always felt like leashes when I was working.
This is why putting cameras on every device from your phone to your refrigerator is a bit crazy ^^ . . . now you have half the cars on the market with 3-4 cameras surrounding the car... how long before all of these get hacked and you have live camera footage feeds of every square foot on the planet?
My first and only smartphone(HTC, about 4 yrs ago) took a pic of me the first time I turned the camera function on. I did not, repeat, did NOT accidentally take a pic of myself. The pic(a blurry one, of my forehead) was visible in the "recents" for several hours and then disappeared completely from the phone.
Now I have an old folks' phone.
(Everyone I've told this story to thinks I'm insane)
So back to buying Penthouse in the plain wrapper. C'est plus le meme'
I never adapted to these new fangled ways - the Iphone gets all sticky on the screen.
vanities ..all vanities
Yeah, the Russians did it!
So when do we get to see the perp walks of everyone involved? Whos paypal account? Who put together the app?
all your spunk are belong to us
Like mom used to say, fools and their money/privacy are soon parted.
Dear barack, Hope you are having a good day. As you can see from the attached photo Reggie is having a good time up your ass (as are you apparently). At least he is using a Trojan.
In order to keep this and other Photos secret please send 1,000 bitcoins to the following blockchain..
We also would appreciate a two night pass for two to sleep in the Lincoln Bedroom.
If you fail to comply we will be forced to publish this and other photos including one with your lovely transvestite wife.
please respond within 24 hours. Or else!!
This is one one the new innovative companies the government favors.
Lets see how long it takes for the LEOs to do their jobs this time.
So a scam that has been on PC for about four years has finally been ported over to mobile.
If this is news then god help mobile because they're at least a half a decade behind PC in protection.
Android, apple, NSA, ... all Big Brother, just different masks.
Walk away from them and keep your person, personal.
Dissempower the bastards.
And another thing. Any asshat can lock up the phone? Aint that special.
They can't (won't?) stop mass phone call scams that affect a hundred million consumers - a desire for votes won't be what makes them deal with this, if they do.
First rule of everything with an integrated camera. When not in use, put a piece of duct tape on it. A few years ago I got a new laptop with a built in cam and the first thing I did was put a piece of tape on it. People used to laugh at me back then. Today not so much.
PS. Second thing to do, get rid of the OEM OS, reparation the drive and install the OS from a DVD you trust.
If the NSA knows every key stroke and all ?

Cheese mother fuckers! I click on every ad with smiling buxom Asian women.
So how does it get a picture of me in a compromising position? If Im pointing the camera at my junk, then I can't see the screen to wank off.
There is no existing threat whatsoever, that can possibly cause me to quit porn
Gonna have to come up with a new app plan. Looks like they are on to this one! Well, it only made a coll $mllion or so before it was discovered. Wow, some idiot just sent me another $500, there is still some first time porn bo out there. Al Gore ?????????????
