And longer-term, investors, for once, did not buy on the Apple rumors, so traders are hoping that maybe they won’t sell on the news.

There comes a time when 100 bazillion pixels in a photo really don't show you a whole lot more than 99 bazillion pixels. There comes a time when a tablet computer 1/1 billionth of a millimeter thick doesn't weight that much less than a tablet that weighs 2/1 billionths of a millimeter thick.
Apple, and indeed, pretty much every tech manufacturer out there, needs to figure out what the "next big thing" is and manufacture that. Incremental "improvements" to existing technology is showing diminishing returns. Apple is in danger of becoming just another box maker, much like Dell and HP before it.

Apple's a great marketing company, and they've been very good at Design. I can't think of anything they've actually invented, but they've done a fantastic job of taking other people's ideas, putting them in a sleek package, and selling them to people who want machines but don't want to know how they work.
That said, there's no way in hell that company or that stock should be in the position it's in. There are a few iPods in our house, but nothing else Apple. The cost premium just isn't worth it for a machine that makes you use it the way its designers want you to use it. If you don't have an always-on, super-robust internet connection, they're junk. If anything goes wrong, you can't fix it yourself; you have to take it to the "Genius Bar." Nope. Not for me. I grew up on a farm. If I can't fix a machine myself, I'm questioning how smart it is to rely on it in a pinch.

And as I wrote a couple of days back - Apple no longer makes revolutionary products. They're behind and playing catch-up. They pushed technology forward with the Ipod, Iphone and Ipad years ago but now others can do what they do cheaper and often times with more customization/options. They're going to be a good, solid company for years but unless they can get back to revolutionary products they could die a very slow death. I like the idea of a Apple making a car, but the problem is cars are very expensive and rely on the debt-paradigm for people to be able to afford them. And you know - if Apple is making a car - it won't be cheap. What about when the debt paradigm crashes again like it did in 2008? Who's going to have the capital to buy their cars?

My son is editing a sci-fi novel that I recently completed. I use various Apple products in the story as metaphor for issues affecting society. At one point he started laughing hysterically at something he had just read. As the novel is somewhat dark, I couldn't imagine what he found so amusing. He couldn't stop laughing and simply pointed at the particular section. Without realizing it, I had apparently aptly named Apple's newest ultra-thin computer, the iSheet, much to his amusement.
Novel, so-so. Moments spent with son laughing over the ridiculousness of the modern world...priceless.
