Greenspan: “Debt, Deficits and Entitlement Programs Are All Coming to a Head In a Few Months, All Over the World”

George Washington's picture

Former Fed chief Alan Greenspan told CNBC last week:

Debt, deficits and entitlement programs are all coming to a head in a few months, all over the world.

This is very interesting, given that financial luminaries such as Ray Dalio, Kenneth Rogoff, Bill Gross, Kyle Bass, BCA Research and John Mauldin think that we’re at the end of a debt supercycle.

Isn't that the same thing????

Everyone is overpaid that has anything to do with Government.Tax revenues don't support the reality of the lack of money.Nobody wants to confront the fact that every level of government in society has at least 30% wasteful fat.You name the extremes in pay.Cops, firefighters, teachers, educational bureaucracy, city, municipal office workers. It's across the board.Oil office workers, utility office workers. Not enough taxes means reduction in paychecks or it all goes bust. All of them especially overpaid government which keeps expanding will all cry like babies.

The "math" has been untenable for years.  What must be "coming to a head" in the near future is widespread recognition that no emperors have clothes, or ever did.

The welfare state is still expanding, not just in plain sight but through back door bailouts like student loans.  When the welfare state can no longer expand any further - and begins to contract - that is when it all "comes to a head."

The current waves of immigration in the US and EU are going to speed up the process for sure.

My guess... Around 1 year from now for things to start getting rough and about 2 years from now for it to really heat up to a point that no one can ignore any longer that we are heading into a shit storm of historic proportions.  After that, the real pain kicks in.

The USSR didn't work, and never could.
The USSA doesn't work, and definitely can't.
The predators-that-be always knew this too.

The plan of the predators-that-be has been to place a noose around the neck of every human being on planet earth (except the predators-that-be themselves, of course).

This is precisely what the upcoming official meetings at the UN are all about.

What is truly astonishing is that humans are so abjectly stupid and timid that they refuse to simply place the noose around the neck of the predators-that-be... and kick away the stools.

And then, start living the good life, san shackles.

Appeal to authority logical fallacy is the downfall of the ordinary human. That and abstraction.

The Milgram experiment writ large.

A debt-money system that murders 10s of millions annually during good years is all good, but an AR-15 self-defense weapon that has killed nobody is bad.

And what moron thinks outlawing guns will result in no guns anymore than outlawing drugs resulted in no drugs? In fact, the Banksters/government run the biggest drug running and money laundering (and gun running!) operations into this country!

I show this to ordinary people all the time and they can't even muster a comment. What Orwell described as crimestop is too powerful - they embrace the cognitive dissonance.

Selfishness exists at all economic levels of society and, at every level, it dehumanizes us all.

The whole thing is very sick when one begins to fully digest that "red pill."

About 10,000 people a year die along the border because of the oligarch drug war on ordinary people (think Opium Wars 2.0). Meanwhile, the DEA agents are hanging out at drug cartel prostitute parties and nobody gets in serious trouble.

Report: DEA agents had ‘sex parties’ with prostitutes hired by drug cartels
https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/report-dea-agents...

In fact, they are escorting the drugs across the border for the same Sinaloa Cartel that laundered their money with Wachovia!

A man cannot serve two masters. Greenspan neglected his Austrian Randian roots. He served his master, Clinton/Gore, sustaining the dotcom bubble. Now, Greenspan attempts a final CYA confession. It will not absolve him. He lied. He deceived. He betrayed. There is no honor in politcal treachery, nor historical forgiveness.

Check your premises!  There is a story that when von Mises made popular the idea that socialist governments and economic systems were all destined to fail because they lacked a market, the Soviet Union picked up his idea and began using prices in the West to guide their economic activities.  This prompted one wag to declare that a statue of von Mises should have been erected in Red Square, due to the service he had rendered their State.  In a similar vein, we might laud Greenspan, who, more than anyone else, looks to be the man most deserving to say, "Apres moi, le deluge!", so to speak.  :-)

Maybe when he got there they had a little sit down to discuss the state of affairs and how things were going to go.  Considering Kennedy, I think most people would have been convinced that their best course of action was to play it out hoping to keep the plate spinning until they died of old age.

"The abandonment of the gold standard made it possible for the welfare statists to use the banking system as a means to an unlimited expansion of credit. In the absence of the gold standard, there is no way to protect savings from confiscation through inflation. There is no safe store of value. Deficit spending is simply a scheme for the hidden confiscation of wealth. Gold stands in the way of this insidious process. It stands as a protector of property rights. If one grasps this, one has no difficulty in understanding the statists' antagonism toward the gold standard." -- Alan Greenspan 1966

He knew the truth at one time, but sold his soul.

Now he's an old man with nothing to lose.

Maybe he's having his "come to Jesus" moment.

Very difficult to believe anyone could erase such profound reasoning from their thinking and rewrite their ideas from another premise.  Easier to believe he continued to hold his views, but use his reputation to unlock doors which would otherwise have been closed, giving him no opportunity to pragmatically prove their validity.  Without this strategy, his career might have resembled David Stockman's.

Whenever he talks I do admit that I look for an ulterior motive in everything he says and does.  I have met many situational ethics guys like him in my life and they are like him across the board.

  • Before the FED, HE was an Austrian and a Randian
  • At the FED he was a Partial Keynesian (only the deficit part, never the pain, part).
  • After the FED he goes back to being a proponent of Gold.

He has abdicated the right to be listened to....

Greenspan is a failed Economist attempting to look like he still has credibility by stating the obvious at the last minute when even the shoeshine boys know what's coming down the pike. He is a practicing Johnny come lately in retirement. I suspect that he does not read his reviews or any criticism that would make him doubt his own hubris or intellectual myopia. If he read what we write about him on Z/H he would start drinking to excess IMHO.

Note: Alan Greenspan was never a High Social Monitor type.
