10,000 Syrians Are Headed For The Following 180 US "Refugee Processing Centers"

Tyler Durden's picture

For the past several weeks it seemed as if Germany had truly become the promised land for Mideast asylum seekers, primarily those seeking to escape the Syrian civil (and global proxy) war, but according to various media reports, also a material number of "ISIS-linked terrorists." Then it all came crashing down earlier today when Germany's beloved by all refugees "Mutti" said genug, and with one decision shut down the border with Austria in the process unraveling decades of customs-union progress (following promptly by the Czech Republic doing the same, with Italy expected to follow suit in the hours ahead).

Ironically, just as Europe is shutting its doors to Syrian refugees, the US is opening its own.

On Friday, Obama said that the United States will admit 10,000 Syrian refugees for resettlement over the next 12 months, following criticism that America is not doing enough with Europe's migrant crisis.

How will this take place logistically? As AFP notes, "this would represent a huge increase in the number of families arriving on US soil. In the more that four years since fighting erupted barely 1,800 Syrians have been welcomed here." Which is why the French wire service did a brief summary of the various steps involved in admitting a record number of Syrians on US soil.

Here are the key points:

  • How will Obama's promise be delivered and what hurdles are keeping the refugees from arriving sooner

More than four million people have fled the fighting in Syria since 2011 and most are living in camps in Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon, Egypt and Iraq, where the UN High Commissioner for Refugees registers them. Some 18,000 of these people -- chosen because they are the most vulnerable whether through family circumstances, injury or disability - have been referred to the United States for resettlement. Officers from the Department of Homeland Security fly from Washington to the camps and conduct interviews with candidates, seeking to weed out what a US official called "liars, criminals and terrorists." Each case file is reviewed by the National Counterterrorism Center, the FBI's terrorist screening center, the DHS, the Department of Defense and "other agencies" - US intelligence.

"Refugees are subject to the highest level of security checks of any category of traveler to the United States," another State Department official told reporters.Meanwhile they receive medical tests and those with communicable diseases, most commonly tuberculosis, are given treatment before they can travel to the United States, often delaying the process.

Currently the procedure takes between 18 and 24 months from the time UNHCR recommends a refugee for resettlement and that person's flight to America.

It is not clear how much the screening process for Syrians costs, but the US government spent $1.1 billion last year resettling 70,000 people from around the world, or almost $16,000 per head.

  • Can the process be sped up?

Critics note that if the United States takes two years to screen each of the 10,000 refugees Obama has promised to welcome none will have arrived before he leaves office.

But, according to a US official, thousands of cases are already in the pipeline and will hopefully now be processed faster.

"We have been resettling Syrian refugees in small numbers since 2011 and it was only in June of 2014 that UNHCR started submitting large numbers of referrals, between 500 and 1,000 per month," she said.

"Those referrals have come pretty steadily since last June to the point where we now have a critical mass. We at the State Department have already prepared the cases for more than 10,000 people."

* * *

But the most important question on the minds of most Americans is the following:

  • Where will the "lucky" 10,000 Syrian refugees go?

Well, once refugees are approved, the State Department pays the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to fly them to the United States.  Refugees sign a promissory note to repay their airfare once they are established, and they are met at the airport by members of one of nine non-government resettlement agencies contracted by the State Department.

There are around 180 resettlement centers dispersed across the United States, where NGO workers help the new arrivals settle in and find work and accommodation in their first 30 to 90 days.

Those who have relatives in the United States will sometimes be assigned to live near them, and most go to cities like Atlanta, San Diego or Dallas where rents are more affordable than in New York or San Francisco.

Others end up in smaller cities like Boise, Idaho or Erie, Pennsylvania, but regardless of where they are taken they are free to move once they find their footing. After 90 days new arrivals are no longer eligible for the State Department-funded support through the resettlement agencies, but some join support programs run by the Department of Health and Human Services.

* * *

So where are these 180 resettlement center? They are shown on the map below:

The full list can be found in the 35-page document sourced from the Refugee Processing Center.

* * *

All this, we again remind readers, just so a Qatari gas pipeline can cross Syria and enter Europe, ending Gazprom's monopoly over European gas demand.

Well, it looks to me like the Northeast liberals are going to get a lot of company.

Seems like even the refugees won't much be in flyover country.

Oh the irony of it all.  Heading to Los Gatos CA.  Can't even get a bunk bed for under $2,000/mo., chock a block full of Progressive social media elite, ready to welcome the new gardeners and toilet cleaners with open arms.  As long as they're somewhere else.  Hey, Zuckerberg, take a 1,000 in, you can afford it and have plenty of room in your primary residence for a whole battalion of slaves, er I mean, servants.
Assholes.
This is not going to end well.  We need to exports some people a long, long way away.  WTF!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Knuks, they certainly will not be bringing poor refugees to Los Gatos, CA. A refugee will not have the faintest of clues as to what to do there, nor will they fit in. It's still very much a rich white neighborhood with newer rich Asians, Indians, and otherwise. Shit is not free in Los Gatos - it is expensive.

The map was indicating a processing center there. If anything, a few people will be processed there.

Santa Clara, CA seemed to get a lot of African and ME immigrants over the last few years. One of my regular skateparks is in a immigrant neighborhood in Santa Clara - lots of hispanics, Africans, other European / Russian immigrants. There was a significant increase in the # of hijabs I saw in that neighborhood over the five years.

SF Bay Area has been on a crazy construction spree of late. Shit going up everywhere - jobs, jobs, jobs... apparently, though I am not sure they actually exist. This place can easily take the 10K refugees, though I am not sure we have jobs for all of them. One of my long-time skate spots is near what is now a Muslim Community Association place. Damn... that place popped up and got big over the last few years. Islamic skools poppin up too... those refugees would feel right at home here.

It must suck to be a European country, getting 80x the volume...

Tee heeh he... That's why I mentioned Los Gatos.  Most Americans can't afford to pass through there, let alone take up residency.
Talkin' about the area, some time ago one of my buds who trades oil residuals was passing through SF on the way to Singapore so we met for dinner in Saratoga at the Plumed Horse.
Heavens to God man, if you get the chance, do it.  Fabulous food.  Fabulous (as in big) food prices, but worth it, considering "CA fusion" is not my general preference, so real French like that was a treat..

On my way home last night, I saw that a DB ICE train loaded with Refugees was making its way to Germany from X (dont remember the country, and it really doesnt matter). Coming by the train load. Wouldnt believe it if I didnt see it with my own eyes.

The question is why? As someone has previously pointed out, winter is coming, and if you are from the MENA states, you are in for a rude awakening.

Many reasons. Diversity for one thing. These people are from cultures that are thousands of years old and therefore sophisticated beyond expression. They will infuse our inbred hillbilly trailer park football and nascar ye-haw sensibilities with a thrilling rich farrago of genetic complements. I'm only disappointed that we can't welcome more. If Germany can bring in 800,000 this year we should be able to double that at least.

BTW, on that map, it looks like Wyoming and Montana are not pulling their fair share. For heavens sakes, this is a nation of immigrants. It's a national disgrace how xenophobic this country has become.

i Spend a good amount of time in wyoming.. many fine qualities.. hunting.. fishing.. the vast great out doors..

but the cops are awful, and any neighbor to her know this well. civil asset forfeiture is the worst of it, and ive even heard of state troopers requiring fines on the spot. My buddy got hauled off to jail for not having the cash on hand.. and had to sit and wait in jail til his old lady could drive up from fort collins with the dough. And if you have any legal dope from down south, you better watch ass!!  Ive half thought about opening up some colorado south border buisness..

Pot lockers.. a place to stash your stash.. as soon as they legalize cafes im gonna open up just south of the border.. Northern Co along the 287 is some of the sweetest country in this land!!

just this past weekend i hap-haphazardly forgot i had some dope in my truck.. I was hunting pronghorn in hohnholz ranch co.. its quicker to go though wyomoing..  any way.. i did the right thing and smoked it up... probably should have waited until i was done hunting.. i was high as a kite, and convinced i could take one down at 120 yrds with my bow.. lost several arrows.

Im new to ft collins co.. i love legal dope.. but the women here all have big asses, armpit hair, and liberal minds.. thank god i imported a wife.

Despite no longer being a "refugee" because they are in no danger from war, they protest, fight, demand. Can't wait to have some of that "farrago of genetic complement" added to our current batch of freeloaders.

Considering the past success of all these Refugee Processing 'Affiliates' to create immigrant slums in the U.S. which only seem to breed hate, crime, an endless cycle of poverty and utter despair for the unfortunate people they supposedly 'helped', I'm wondering when at least ONE of them will be dragged to the ICC in the Hague for crimes against humanity. Which one of these 'charities' helped build the Somali slums in Minnesota that produced so many would-be jihadis? When are these 'charities' going to take some responsibility for the lives they ruined?

These supposed charities seem to excel at providing thousands of potential subsidised housing candidates to the charity director's brother-in-laws. This immigration wave is a slum-lord's dream-come-true.

Refugee Processing Affiliates is just a polite title for human trafficker delivery depot.

I'm pretty sure a Syrian Muslim refugee would rather die than go to the filthy, head-chopping country that financed the destruction of their homes in Syria, so Syrian refugees are not going to go there.

Let's see now, how about Yemeni Muslim refugees to Saudi Arabia? No... that won't work either. Saudis are busy killing them and destroying their homes. Saudis are not popular with the refugees they created.

Libyan Muslim refugees? Nope. Saudi Arabia helped overthrow Gadaffi and destroy Libya. The Saudis are also contemplating bombing Libya again to kill the terrorists they financed there. Libyan Muslims hate the Saudis, so they wouldn't go there if they're life depended on it.

When it comes down to it, there's few Muslim refugees from anywhere in the Middle East that would want to be sent to Saudi Arabia - except maybe to level the place. Nobody cares if the Saudi King offers to take any - most Muslims wouldn't go.

Ah, of course. It's the fault of those who helped immigrants find the land of opportunity because the opportunities weren't taken. These people came from poverty and lawlessness (certainly the case with the Somalis).  But, we would never expect individuals to learn the language, get a job-any-job to get out off of government welfare, or simply to assimilate into American society instead of creating their own ghettos...and yes, they create their own cultural ghettos...their own schools, banks, laws, courts, etc. You can blame all the charities you like, but at some point, people need to stop taking the fish and learn how to fish.

Unlike in the US, over there they fucking KNOW exactly what is going on. They know it was the US who did this to them, and now we are bringing in 10000 more of them, many of whom hate us, and i gotta say its hard to blame them. I know I would in their shoes. Contrary to what most in the US think, having bombs dropped on you doesn't  engender gratitude, and doesn't feel like 'freedom' falling from the skies.

"you live in one of the few countries in the world where we 'could' recall or impeach any leader at any time"

Wrong. WE as individual citizens do not have to power to recall or impeach any president in the U.S. at any time.

The Constitution gives the House of Representatives the right to impeach the president. A majority of the members of the House must vote for these charges in order to impeach the president.

After the charges of misconduct are filed, the Senate has the power to try impeachment cases like a court. Two-thirds of the senators must vote for conviction.

A good point. I would consider anyone who voted for any of these people (or Romney, the result would be the same) as responsible. As are the gadget addicted dumbshits who make up most of the population. That doesn't include you, or most who post on here, or who think like most of us do, but we make up a tiny % of the population. I guess I just view it as most americans getting what they deserve for allowing this, or for many of them, encouraging this to be donw in their name. This probably doesn't include you, since despite our disagreement on reagan, you don't strike me as the pro warfare type, but unfortunately we are all surrounded by idiots who appear to be getting what they deserve for supporting this nonsense.

San Francisco Elementary School Switches To Gender-Neutral Bathrooms For Little Kids

As of this week, kindergarten and first-grade girls and boys at Miraloma Elementary are all relieving themselves in the same bathrooms. Another centralized bathroom is also gender-neutral.

In the next couple years, Miraloma will begin forcing older boys and girls to use bathrooms together.

Next up: gender-neutral locker rooms (but not before gender-specific pronoun usage results in suspension, etc.)

That Daily Caller article says

"the bathroom change is because between six and eight students have decided they are transgender, or are tomboys."

Funny that word "tomboy" is used. I went to elementary/middle/hi skool with a girl who used to wear football jerseys and would play ball with the boys. She was super cool, and everyone liked her. "Tomboy" was exactly the word we had used, if the need for distinction ever came about, and I can count the number of times on my fingers anyone had to make the distinction. After hi-skool I found out that she swung for the same team - we all kinda had a hunch, but no one since childhood had made anything 'special' out of it.

This new age of self-obsession will not end well.

Let's go all the way with a gender neutral society. How can one complain about unequal pay for women when there is no gender? How can one attack male privilege when there is no gender? Hoist them by their own strap-on petard.

BtP, that's exactly what the purpose for skool is anymore - creating artificial homogeneity among clearly heterogenous humans. Through repetition, with the induced fear of punishment, the teacher/skool as an agent of the State's will, can usually get malleable minds pressed into sheets of the State's choosing choosing.

How easy is it to convince a nationful of children that gender doesn't exist? One generation of fucktard spineless parents and publik skool.

Before becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen, immigrants must take an oath that says, in part, "I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen."

Yet dual citizenship has been specifically sanctioned by the United States Supreme Court. In 1967, the court ruled that the State Department had violated the Constitution when it refused to issue a new U.S. passport to a U.S. citizen who had voted in an election in Israel. The decision overturned a law saying that "a person, who is a national of the United States, whether by birth or naturalization, shall lose his nationality by voting in a political election in a foreign state."

http://www.latimes.com/opinion/editorials/la-ed-dual-citizenship-2014122...

So we'll have to be vigilant and make sure that the next Fed Chairman, Chief of Homeland Security, elected officials and appointees at State and Defense are loyal to America rather than Syria. I know you'll join me in saying that foreign influence in high places is not good for America.

Well, I have long thought it was cool beating up & mocking people who didn't practice my religion and the peer pressure made it easy, just go along with the flow. Then ISIS came to town and showed me slicing infidels throats was way cooler than just kicking them in the head. Next thing you know I was up to two killings and four rapes a week, it was all I ever did or thought about doing, morning, noon and night, it was another way of life.

Let me give you a 'Quick' example:

in 1985, 16,000 cubans worked in third world countries, more than twice the total peace corps and aid specialists from the united states. by 1988, cuba had “more physicians working abroad than any industrialized nation, and more than the un’s world health organization. most of the aid is uncompensated, and cuba’s “international emissaries” are “men and women who live under conditions that most development aid workers would not accept,” which is “the basis for their success.” for cubans, the report continues, “international service” is regarded as “a sign of political maturity” and taught in the schools as “the highest value.”
