Without Government, Who Would Force A Men's Barbershop To Cut Women's Hair?
Submitted by Ryan McMaken via The Mises Institute,
A barbershop that is set up specifically to serve men, must now pay $750 dollars after a Pennsylvania state investigation into "discriminatory" practices on the part of the barbershop owners.
The owner, John Interval, was fined $750 after he declined to cut a woman's hair. According to Interval:
"I didn’t really consider it so much a discrimination thing as – it’s a barbershop... for guys. You know, I’m not opposed to doing women’s hair...just not in this shop. I don’t even have [the equipment] to do women’s hair." Interval said.
The potential customer, who was forced to endure the hardship of finding an establishment that cuts women's hair, filed a complaint with the state, and following a taxpayer-funded investigation and interview period with the barbershop owners, the state levied a fine against the shop.
The shop will pay the fine, of course, because to refuse to pay would likely bring armed government agents to the establishment to serve further warrants and additional methods of state coercion including fines, lawsuits, and possible imprisonment and/or impoverishment for the owner.
An alternative to this, of course, would be to allow shop owners to dispose of their own private property as they see fit. In the United States however, a business agreement (i.e., a verbal or written contract) does not require the consent of both parties. Instead, state and federal governments employ armies of government agents to force private individuals to enter into contracts where only one party has consented to participate.
Thus, in this manner, the government carries out its essential role in mandating hair cuts (or cake baking, or wedding photography) under threat of fines and other penalties.

How do we fine politicians that don't represent the people?
At 3000 fps?
hang on, knock at the door, brb.
I was just thinking to myself "Self, we dont have enough government regulation"
And here I thought a business has the right to refuse service to anyone... Why not buy car parts from the guy and when he refuses, turn him in!
Silly you. These are the same people who make 66 year old men pay for birth control pills in their health coverage.
Time for men to start suing gynecologists for not rendering them medical treatment,... er,... what's that?... Oh,... Bruce Jenner.
Never mind.
Same for pediatriatians that won't treat old people or podiatrists that don't do nose jobs and don't get me started on my dentist when he won't give me a pedicure.
Women's toilets don't have urinals. How do they expect men to urinate under those conditions? It's sexist I tell ya.
If I was a barber that did not want to cut a woman’s hair, I would comply with the law…
But it would be the last time she would come to me for a doo unless she likes a little of the Goth look and my special hair gel which is a secret blend of STP and organic excretions…
in which case it would be recreation for me.
Yep, give 'em the Sinead O'Connor treatment.
Agreed, though I think the shop owner did the right thing.
By playing the victim, he has probably doubled the number of men coming to the shop.
You simply can not buy advertising this good.
He spends $750 and gets sustained national media attention.
America..... I LOVE IT !
The next bulldyke that comes in, shave a big chunk of her hair off and go oops.....I'm real nervous sorry about that
It was a PC setup, so cut her hair to make sure she never comes back. No, don't butcher it (lawsuit), just fuck up for the simple reason that you're a barber:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barber
Oh you want a women's haircut? That'll be $3000. Up front.
Oh and you'll have to wait 2 weeks for me to buy the special equiptment.
I don't much care for the fatties so one of you boys will have to step up, take one for the team and go get you a "curves" membership. I get 10% commision for the suggestion, 20% if they settle out of court.
He really should have given her a high and tight.
How did you come to the conclusion that the shop owner is playing the victim? He cuts men's hair for a living. Nothing about his operation suggests that he is also trained to style women's hair.
He is being ripped off for $750. And the woman who complained is an ass.
Hold uo Mr Divine. "Playiing" the victim. I believe he truly was the victim. I can do quite a bit c $750. If that is playing then I do not want to see serious.
I would be angry for a very long time based solely on the principle of the matter, or the lack thereof.
I went to a barber's shop for a haircut, but the guy did not know how to cut women's hair. He tried, but It was pretty bad. A barber does not need to deliberately mess up anyone's haircut. He will, because he has no practice in long hair.
The feminist Natzis will never be placated even if you shove a tampon up your ass and squat to pee. I'm waiting for guys to declare no more and make a stand.
Shave a swastika in the whinny bitches head. You have my blessing.
Miffed
This is how Muslims handle women.

What was that thing flying around?
ROFL
That rebound scares me Miffed. The rebound reaction for women, gays, minorities, and sometimes even idiots. The rebound could be harsh. Judging people individually could be thrown out the window.
When I was a young man in West Texas ther were not many idiots, since an idiot could not feed his family and had to learn in order to survive. I could carry on a conversation with a man who was not that bright about doing a brake job or fixing a fence or working cattle. Today idiots are just that. They have never had to learn and they do not want to learn.
Will I help them? I am not sure.
But it seems that most of the people I meet from California know how to do everything, so you should be fine. I am sure that civil servant can do brain surgery on you next week if you ask politely.
This is the new ADA
This woman must be really fucking ugly and incredibly stupid by going to a man barber.
She went in for the "butch"...
How long before it becomes known there isn't a ladies room in the men's barber shop? Oh boy!
Supercuts needs to bring back barber surgeons, a shitty haircut, exfoliating shave (aka skinpeeling), and bloodletting for $10.
Obamacare approved!
He should have just shaved the bitch's head. Guaranteed to never to return and the mouth-to-mouth 'advertisement' will ensure that no women will ever set foot in that barbershop again.
As a side note, it's called a Phlebotomy for patients that have an elevated red blood count or Iron level. I've had it done twice. It works!
Technically therapeutic phlebotomy. Phlebotomy is just drawing blood. Mr tends to have a high ferritin level so he donates a few times a year. A lot of guys tend to be iron overloaded which can result in lots of health problems. One theory woman have the same rate of heart disease as men after menopause stems from this. Because the body has such a critical need for iron it has mechanisms to retain it, not excrete it.
Miffed;-)
I stand corrected!!. lol. "Therapeutic phlebotomy." Does Mr. tends drink water from a well? Ours is iron rich so I usually drink bottled. So you are saying a high ferritin level leads to heart problems? Haven't heard of that.
Your dentist gave a pedicure to the patient immediately before you. A pedicure and a rectal exam.
"Silly you. These are the same people who make 66 year old men pay for birth control pills in their health coverage."
Oh yeah? And just who the fuck do you think is paying for all the Viagra?!
Fuck off.
PS A few bucks for birth control pills sure is a small price to pay for avoiding paternity suits and child support, no?
Or - you could just not put your dick into crazy and avoid the need for birth control. Exercising judgement and personal responsibility and all that...
Nah, let's just blame everyone else but ourselves! Soooo much easier! ;)
I chose not to have children. That's why I don't have to avoid paternity suits and child support.
But why is it I can no longer avoid paying for everybody else's children, including their pediatric eye care? You know it's now illegal for my insurance company to offer me coverage that doesn't include pediatric eye care, right?
If YOUR kid needs glasses, YOU pay for it. Just because I paid for YOUR Viagra and YOU didn't use birth control and couldn't avoid a paternity suit and child support doesn't make YOUR nearsighted kid MY problem.
Fuck off, indeed.
You drug-oriented dipshits need to learn the kegel exercise for men. I squeeze daily and my equipment, at 61 years, provides me with twice a week ecstasy with the woman of my dreams. BTW, she is a common working class woman without the usual public school induced Progressive hangups.
For beginners on this, dont overdo it or do it too hard, be gentle with it. In fact the best method is to include it in with your normal breathing, timed in proper fashion - its a generations old martial arts secret.
Or, if a woman wants to fuck, she should get her own contraceptives.
Or, if a man wants to fuck, he should use a condom.
It's called persona,l fucking responsibility and about 99% of this country doesn't have it.
The only insuranc company I know of today paying for any treatment for ED is the VA, or Tricare. As of 6-1-15 Medicare stopped paying for all ED treatments. So now we can not maintain an erection long enough to have penetrative sex and achieve orgam so there is no need to continue paying for your OCP.
and...since we have been on a rampage to unmoralize everything once considered sacred.
Why in the heck is polygamy still illegal!!! This is what someone should ask POTUS at his next homosexual marriage advocacy seminar. After all, isn't it a "woman's rights" issue at stake here!!!
I'm going to a female salon and asking for a Brazilian wax and see what they say.
What, you think you will be the first? Though they might think you are gay. Maybe tell them you are a swimmer and need to reduce drag.
There's always a third party in any enforceable contract -- the government.
Don't forget all those chicks with dicks that need barbers.
OOh What a world
Price settles everything.
Boys $6
Adults $10
Seniors $8
Girls $40
Women $60
Senior women $59
Did she have an appointment?
"Did she have an appointment?"
No, she had a disappointment...
Can he charge extra if she asks him to shave her bush?
yes... if he had to break out the hand held power planer.
The obvious thing to do is to graciously procede with the hair cut.
Then tell dirty jokes, fart, scratch, spit & hack, and give a haircut that would embarass a dog. Simple solutions can usually be found to make people not want to return.
The baker in the news not long ago who did not want to be forced to bake a cake for a gay wedding should have employed a similar tactic. Overcharge, or say your are too busy to make the requested deadline. Or, take the order, then just not deliver. When they started looking for the cake, say the work order was lost, or deliver a crude facsimle of what was expected. In other words, just smile and fight fire with fire. Hey, I was trying! It wasn't my fault that I sneezed cut that 4 inch gap down the middle of her head.
No, but all the men do. So she goes to the end of the queue
Nope...Dry Cleaners have been sued for charging more to clean a womans's blouse than they do for a man's shirt.
Then the woman can sue for price gouging...only the oil boys are allowed to do that silly
Not to mention that the state requires barbers to be licensed and pay annual fees...to cut hair. They hate us for our freedoms.
Fuck that.
I have always cut the lil_horsemen's hair.
I bought a GE kit with scissors, drape, clippers, comb, and a VHS video tape, 20+ years ago, and that was that.
Fortunately in jail (and FEMA camps) you don't need a license.
And a great way to make spending money in college.
Fuck the hair police.
It might still be legal to cut your own hair but no one better catch you cutting someone else's hair.
Breaking the law, breaking the law
Breaking the law, breaking the law
Breaking the law, breaking the law
Breaking the law, breaking the law
Rakin' the lawn! Rakin' the lawn!
walkin the dog, walkin the dog!
funny story... when my son was around 5 or 6 I took him for a haircut. He usually had bushier hair and wanted to try something shorter. At the time I had forgotten the numbering sequence for the buzz clippers. The young lady recommended something like a #2 and I said ok. The first pass wasn't on the sides or back. It was right down the damn middle like a reverse mo-hawk. No turning back from there. The "oh shit" look on my face must have been priceless.
So, when it was my turn I has no other choice but step up and go for the #2 as well. That way when I got home I was able to say to my wife "hey look what we did!" The alternative of "so sorry" would have definately been a suicide mission.
(I know... O/T. But, had to share. This memory still makes me laugh).
The memory of the haircut, or when you used to have a set before you got married?
Both. ha ha.
(more realistically is that I knew she would probably freak out and cry... and I would feel bad and all. When in reality it is damn funny. Taking it to a whole level of stupid sort of nukes the whole thing right there).
Great example of how to keep the peace.
whole "new" level. My bad on the incomplete sentence.
Centerline - More like if you didn't get the cue ball cut with the son you wouldn't get that sumptin sumptin. But with such.haircut you probably didn't anways...
When your wife takes you on a walk, does she put the lease around your nut sack?
Nah. But if is working for you maybe I should consider giving it a whirl. Sounds kinky.
lol, doggystyle FTW.
A lease? So you claim she is centerline's pimp and rents him out? I had no idea! All kinds of talent here on ZH! I will need to call and get rates. Could be fun.
My father is/always was the commensurate asshole.
He once lost so much money gambling while he was drunk that when the school sent home some bullshit note about my long hair ( which of course I loved ) that he took my brother and myself to the cheapest ( unlicenced ) place in town to get a buzz cut.
...At a local dog kennel.
God knows if they cleaned the gear before taking it to my head and I remember the place smelling of dogs.
Dumb shit like worthless fucks taking their kids to get their hair cut in the same place where and with same equipment that dogs have their asses shaved might be why people had the government issue licenses to run barbershops...
Professionals?
You had it too good.
I could only dream of such luxury.
My mom used this. I still wince at the sight of that thing.
I don't think she EVER changed the blades.
It pulled my hair out, rather than cutting it.
My mom had one of those hideous torture instruments as well. I can attest to the hair ripping. Some memories border on needing therapy. That's one of them right there.
My kids saw photos of me doing my fire-eating thing when they were fairly young. My son bugged me to teach him how to do it. I promised I would when he was 18. On his birthday I bought clippers and buzzed both our heads, then off to a quiet spot with a gallon of kerosene and my wick sticks.
He picked it up pretty quick, but the taste of the kerosene made him puke!
I've been doing my own hair ever since.
I did have a bit fo a disaster once, when the guide comb came off as I was clipping - oops, down to the wood! It does grow back, though.
heh, kerosene....facepalm....grain's much less toxic
My Barber Story....
My sister took me to my first real haircut by a barber, she was 13 or 14 and I was 2 or 3 I think. I was apparently scared shitless and fought her all the way there (we walked). In any case, they sat me up in the chair on a piece of wood that straddled the chair arms, covered me in the bib thing and then broke out the buzz clippers to start. I closed my eyes (so I'm told, I remember nothing) and as soon as the clippers hit my head I pissed all over the wood, the chair and of course, myself. My sister was mortified and I was screaming like I was being killed - the barber made my sister take me out of the chair and then clean up which she did of course. My Dad took me the next day to a new Barber - Lou who I used for the next 12 years...
The story is my father went up to the shop after he got home from work and heard the story - my sister was more upset then me at this point, I was over it. Things didn't go well at the shop, my Dad was fined and taken to the station but not locked up - we had to pick him up - that I remember, he was really pissed. The barber shop was closed for several days afterwards, yeah my old man kicked his ass, but good - he deserved it, he treated my sister like she was a criminal - she was a little girl afterwall.
Definitely O/T too but I had to respond with my barber story since I enjoyed reading yours...
That is one hell of a story. Today, people are so nuetered (particullary men), that few kids now know what is like for someone to stand up for them. Particularly little girls. I have a daughter as well as a son. Thanks for sharing.
Want more hair police HH?
It ain't all the feds...
Some several years ago the Woman's Hairdresser folks combined forces with the Men's Barber association (whatever it is called).
Part of the combo deal was that Women could not shave men, or shave their head. They could cut it reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal short, but they couldn't, and still can't, break out the lather and razor and finish the job. These boys and girls regulate themselves, don't know why the Fed has to get involved.
I have a similar kit. Works great. No video though. We don't need no stinking instructions over here. lol.
"I have always cut the lil_horsemen's hair."
TMI...I don't want to know about your personal grooming habits.
lol.

Another gov. attack against employed white men. The parasites continue to eat their host.
I actually went a to woman stylist for years before I bought a Flowbee, 20 years ago. The reason I switched was that the barber shop was so full of cig. smoke that you could cut it with a knife! Flowbee beats them both.
My wife goes to this place occasionally for manicures that has to be in violation of some code. The fumes are so thick from solvents that I can barely even step in the place to buy a gift certificate. A lit cigarette in that place would probably level a city block.
The solvent is probably acetone with some fragrance added. I don't know about the fragrance but acetone, aside from explosive, is a relatively harmless solvent. Of course too much of anything like alcohol fumes or carbon dioxide and you pass out or can die.The smell is very noticeable but ppms are probably low. They would have to spill a half quart in a good sized salon before having to air the place out.
I've probably used a hundred gallons of acetone, including cleaning my hands and furniture from paint, shellac and varnish residue over 35 years. I'm in better health than most people my age and my brain neurons still fire up, well some of them :>)
Thanks for that - I've gone through a lot of acetone over the years too, and I've worried that it ain't good for me, but I'm still here...
Not to mention that the state requires barbers to be licensed and pay annual fees...to cut hair.
If government was protecting us from bad hair, they have epically failed....like everything else they claim to be protecting us from.
HH
you posted a series of books for your children to read, would you mind re posting the link?
http://www.zerohedge.com/contributed/2013-01-24/will-you-pay-kid-read-12...
Yea...But what if I am a white guy who believes he is really a black guy who believes he is really a lesbian woman (which explains why I like black women) Can I still get a hair cut there?
Yes, but if you want the barber to apply Afro-Sheen, you will have to get the DA involved.
How about this: we stop using their money. #bitcoin
But they WANT a cashless society
There will never be a cashless society like Berkshares, Ithaca Hours, Greek TEMs and a list of alternative currencies show:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_community_currencies_in_the_United...
Berkshares are currency by definition as it acts the same as Fed Res. notes which is used in place of real money.
It is too bad but Berkshares have had very limited success. You can exchange them for goods with some merchants and can swap them for Fed Res. notes at some local banks or the reverse.
But they WANT a cashless society
Bitcoin IS cash. Just digital. All other characteristics of cash still apply to bitcoin.
If a feminist is not in a barber shop...do the clippers really make a sound?
This is well-established law.
So is Obamacare. Any other brilliant observations?
That is a fallacy.
No politician can represent or answer to you or anyone else as they don't know who even voted for them.
Secondly, if politicians represent the will of the people, then there is no need for politicians as they are just a proxy for our will. Only other scenario is that they don't represent the people, and therefore represent an invalid and illegitimate concept.
With a long drop,

After yrs of a unisex place that I had to wait . We finally got two guys who opened a old school shop where I can get a #1 perm . Now this bs
I am going to sue planned parenthood for refusing to provide me an abortion, even though I am not pregnant and don't have ovaries or a uterus. Oh wait, I'm not a protected class.
Big deal, cut the bitch's hair in the style the guy offers his men customers. If she wants a perm and a set, tell her to go where they offer that kind of treatment. This guy has the equipment to do the kind of hair cuts he gives and that is the end of the story.
What's next, allowing women to deposit at a sperm bank?
Time to start punching more holes in the side of the boat.
pods
And pundits wonder why Trump is popular. This is why (plus he's got a TV show).
Why because his hair was cut at a male haircutting place or he avoids the issue altogether by having a bad mop?
I would given her a haircut. A nice buzz cut the fuckin dike bitch.
And the civil court defense is "I told her I didn't know how to cut women's hair styles. But she insisted."
Yep, comb and clippers.
What if the woman really looked (and dressed) like a man and wanted a buzz cut?
It's my understanding that was the situation.
The barber was clearly in the wrong, he holds himself out as a public service.
He would be quite entitled to say "Here we do hair only in the styles that men like. And we charge extra for long hair."
But if the customer wants that then she should be able to have a male hairstyle.
The owner even offered to pay for her hair cut at another business to compensate her inconvience. But still she files suit.
Tell her to choke on a bag of dicks is what he should have told her.
Offer to pay for someone else to cut her hair?
Sorry lady, we don't cut women's hair cause I dont know how. End of story.
Same thing about the bakery. Sorry, we don't like fags and won't make you a cake. Find another one.
Jesus, I cannot fucking wait till we get to Mencken's ending.
"Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats."
I completely agree with you, but we live in Bizzaro world. Remember, suspend logic and reason or it will give you a wicked headache.
In a time and world of the progressive's making, we are supposed to be enjoying unprecedented tolerance, yet...we seem to increasingly have tolerance for no one or anything. The funny thing is that it is the progressives, the preachers of tolerance, who are the most intolerant and most likely to sue or protest or boycott anyone who THEY think is intolerant...people who largely just want to be left alone to live their lives without conflict or confrontation. THEY can't tolerate someone simply saying ..."no, I don't want to sell you a product or service". In a world that was supposed to be free, a world that was supposed to be free markets where BOTH the seller and buyer perceived they won, we now see the progressives again showing us that freedom is not our right or choice. We MUST capitulate to their every demand, especially if our choices are based upon some principle...a principle other than theirs, as only THEIR principle matters. Acting as our MORAL ELITES, defining the rights and wrongs we are no longer capable or allowed to discern.
Sometimes different groups are like oil and water. No matter how much you shake them, they will always separate.
Now, if you add something else, say, freedom, as an emulsifier you can obtain a stable outcome.
It is government force that causes the problems. It always seems that people tend to get along when there is no mandated rules about association.
It is when someone tries to use government force to achieve their goals that things go sideways.
pods
Freedom, in a world of government indoctrination, is but another word for fear. We are taught to fear freedom, to fear those who extoll freedom, and especially those who live free.
We call them domestic terrorists.
People fear anything different, and those outside the hive ARE different. People desire consensus, the knowledge that what they are doing and thinking are the same as everyone else, all while celebrating their uniqueness as defined by the same but slightly different hair, cloths, phone, house, car, and tattoo. Looking at a herd of cattle, even within a given breed they look different from one another, yet they all wear the same brand. Indoctrination and continual marketing is our "brand" or at least for those living inside of the social hive.
NO, freedom ain't for everybody, or maybe even a few. What those of us who keep railing about what we see need to understand, is that WE are the minority, the odd man out in this. We are the threat to the beloved consensus, and even if we make our case, if we actually make others understand what they are facing, even then most will reject the message as its not what they want to hear, it does not fit their programming no matter how much sense it makes...and therefor is rejected...and we are rejected.
Just sayin
This is why people go "postal" (except for MK ultra mind control).
It's not a "public service" it's a private fucking business.
He offers men's haircuts, she wanted a woman's haircut.....it wasn't on the fucking menu! Like going to McDonalds and suing them because they wouldn't serve you a fucking Whopper. Idiot.
Don't let on you have common sense, the NSA is listening. They hate that shit.
He has the freedom to even go as far as, This is my business and I don't like your fucking face, so get out!
Freedom means freedom. I don't owe you shit.
EDIT: He had the freedom.
We do have the freedom to DIE for our freedoms. The reason we seemingly now have so few is because the price was too high compared to the other options available. We really sold out cheap when yo look back on it. We didn't have to die or even suffer much. WE simply had to resist the "something for nothings" and the constant fear mongering, not just against terrorists (foreign and domestic) but the fear of each other, of business and welfare queens and all the other extremely divisive shit they have been selling for decades. All while selling us pacifiers with borrowed money...trinkets of momentary pleasure.
True, Oldwood. The barber shop owner could just refuse to pay the fine, gather up some freedom-loving freinds, and then dispense some liberty at 3,000 FPS when the government goons show up, Bundy Ranch style.
I don't know if we've reached that point yet where people have had enough and would rather die than deal with this, but maybe we're getting close.
We will get there eventually, but not by all for sure. I believe this has always been their plan...to press and squeeze, parsing out those willing and compliant from those hard-asses who will not, all for easy definition and vilification for removal/elimination. If you haven't noticed, it is these hard-asses that they deem as our greatest threat (after climate change of course). As we see the heat turned up, more and more will resist violently, giving our benevolent government all the reason they need to "crack down" effectively taking us deeper into a state of tyranny, where ALL freedoms represent imminent threat. There is no real effective response to this, as they well planned it. They will have effectively indoctrinated the masses into fearing the "crazies" screaming about lost freedoms, and will have their full support in every step of our imprisonment.
To not act is capitulation and to act is to advance their agenda. I think we are trapped, between bad choices...as always, except the choices just get worse. I honestly think the ONLY real choice we have, if turning this back is the goal and not just retaliation, is passive resistance. It would be the hardest choice by far, as it would require the continual turning of the other cheek. The easiest is to respond violently, as that is our first urge. But again, I believe that is EXACTLY what they desire....no, NEED.
We cannot beat them with violence.
I couldn't agree more with everything you said. Long small, tightly-knit communities, share-cropping, trade & barter, and whatever other voluntary exchange that exists outside of their monetary system. If we can't beat them, we can make them irrelevant.
So can I really file in small claims court in every City for McDonalds not offering sushi? Some of these idiotic things need to really be tested to be stopped.
Next thing I know I won't be able to not do business with certain types of clients. Yes I said I would never do business with anyone tied to the Russian mob ever again. And I'm part Russian.
mc donalds got sued because their coffee was too hot. and they lost.
It was because the Plaintiff had a jury of her peers (i.e., a huge dose of Stoopid!)
Of course Gilnut you are very logical and as far as I'm concerned morally correct. The problem is that most people don't understand what it means to get a license to do something. In order to get a government license you have to agree to abide by all gov. regulation (I don't mean the American Constitution) while using the license. All gov. regulations pertaining to a license can change any time the gov. decides to change it. You give up fundamental rights to acquire permission from the government.
There are numerous licenses that people mistakenly think they must have in order to do something which they already have a right to do. In this case the government construes the "Barber" as a profession engaged in commerce. The gov. has a right to regulate commerce. If he was merely doing labor for agreed compensation which this could be construed as, he might win if he is willing to not have a license and take a suit all the way to the supreme court. Defending your fundamental rights is extremely costly and could take 5-10 years. By default the government prevails because no one is willing to spend half a mil.
It is a tricky legal question which has not much to do with common sense. It is contract law IMHO.
Gilnut, where did you go? Must have deleted his post.
It seems, with everything the FED does, that more people hate them.
For government there is never enough otherwise the people that think up this shit for business and government would be out of a job.
Pretty silly to refuse to cut a woman's hair. And the fine was right. It's a small step from "we don't serve women " to "we don't serve blacks/gays/Jews/Irish/some other group"
Exactly! Freedom of association will not be tolerated.

A bald guy walk into a barbershop and asks for a haircut...
Don't forget the '/s' next time...
Separation of smart from stupid should be encouraged and cherished. You cannot solve stupid so why try?
Guess what, idiot....he can (could) choose to serve or not serve whomever he wants for any reason. Nobody owes you their labor.
But if I walk into a black-owned business and they refuse to serve me because I'm white, I can file the same complaint and I'll get the same result, right?
Fucktard.
Lemme guess, dude/chick/thing wanted a flat top. Barber says, "What the fuck are YOU?" Dude/chick/thing says, "Use a number 1 clipper blade on me or Im ratting you out to the federales." It was offended that a real human man didn't acknowledge it's obvious manliness.
Another dude/chick/thing in the PA government says, "Oh boy, lookie what we gots here...."
What a fucked up world we live in. I would put a sign up that says clearly in bold letters WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO NOT CUT ANY ONE's HAIR for ANY FUCKING REASON WHATSOEVER, INCLUDING THAT WE MAY NOT LIKE YOUR CLOTHES, SMELL, COLOR, GENDER, OR ANY OTHER FUCKING THING.
All he had to do was cut her hair really badly and take her money...then no fine, he's got some of her cash, she can't complain to anyone and this ain't news.
I would give her the worst haircut possible - the law states nothing of doing a good quality job, just do it.
Actually if you did that she could sue you in civil court for malicious intent. You purposfully disfigured her. I don't agree with this but it can happen.
He offered to pay for her hair cut some where else and she still refused. This was a feminazi looking to cause problems, period.
"This was a feminazi looking to cause problems, period."
Or someone trying to save money. I pay $20 including tip to my barber while my wife pays $50 for the same amount of work - no styling, just a basic cut. (I don't think shampoo and conditioner should account for an extra $30.... maybe $5 - $10 tops.) So, why are women charged more for the same amount of work?
But yeah, this had to be a FN or she would have just moved on.
You know what I hate about all this PC crap? When I went to the barber, I used to count on the latest edition of Playboy being there. Made it worth the wait. Now there's nothing but Time and National Geographic. Meh. Oh, and the posters of Raquel and Brigitte are gone too. Now it's just Elvis and James Dean. I mean, seriously, how can you have Elvis and Dean up there without Raquel and Brigitte? That's just wrong.
It would be nice if the charge was related to the time/difficulty of the service.
My daughter, long straight hair, please trim off about an inch to clear the dead ends. 5 minutes or less, costs the same as a more involved cut.
Didn't have to give her a malicious cut, just a sloppy job. Some people excel at their profession and others barely get by. Crooked by being off a half inch over 6" or uneven shaping is not law suit material. She complains, give her money back and tell her not to come back if she doesn't like his work. Stop in the middle of the cut and say its time for a coffee break and take a half hour off.
Make her sign a waiver
