Presenting The Presidential Money Maps: Here's Where The Checks Come From

Tyler Durden's picture

Donald Trump has made a few things abundantly clear in the months since announcing his candidacy for The White House. Here are a few points Trump has been keen to communicate unequivocally: 1) illegal immigrants have to go, 2) China is “winning” at “everything”, 3) there are no “losers” allowed, and 4) he is very, very rich.

That last point means the brazen billionaire is self-funding his campaign, a move he hopes will set him apart in the minds of voters.

To be sure, the idea that politicians are influenced by their campaign donors and that this is everywhere and always a bad thing plays well with large swaths of the electorate. Trump hopes his message - “no one controls me” - will resonate in a country that’s largely fed up with business as usual inside the Beltway and indeed, given the scrutiny on the Clinton Foundation and what influence its donors might have exercised in the past, the self-funded campaign card might be something Trump can play effectively when debating Hillary - assuming she gets her party’s nomination.

Of course campaign finance has been a thorny issue for years and although one can disagree with Trump on quite a few of his positions, one thing that isn’t debatable is this: where the money comes from matters.

On that note, we present the following maps which break down where (geographically speaking) the candidates in this election cycle are getting their checks. You can view the full collection here - presented below are the particularly notable maps followed by color on each from Bloomberg:

Super-PAC contributions:

This map shows only the contributions to super-PACs and other independent groups supporting a presidential candidate. These groups can accept donations of unlimited size from individuals, unions and corporations. (Campaigns can’t accept corporate or union money and are limited to $2,700 per individual per race.) Notice that even in Democratic enclaves like New York and San Francisco, the big money is flowing mostly to GOP candidates.

Million dollar or more donors:

Jeb Bush

Jeb Bush was the fundraising leader in the first half of 2016, pulling in $115 million, mostly through his super-PAC. Not surprisingly, the former Florida governor leaned heavily on his home state, but he also picked up large checks from across the country. He had a lower number of donations than some of his rivals—possibly because he waited until later in the year to declare his candidacy and become eligible to accept direct campaign contributions.

Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton’s contributors skew more toward the coasts than the leading Republicans’, and didn't write any checks larger than about $1 million.

Bernie Sanders

Only about $3 million of the $15 million raised by Bernie Sanders in the first half appears on the map below. That’s because the rest came from donors who gave such small amounts—under $200—that their names and addresses weren’t required to be disclosed. Sanders attracted small-dollar contributions from across the country while discouraging the formation of any super-PACs to support him.

You're being silly.

Saudi Arabia isn't a State, it's a Kingdom (may peace be upon you as long as you remove your wife's clitoris).

Since Hawaii was added, 7 other States have been added as well. Puerto Rico, Haiti, Diego Garcia, Cayman Islands, Mexico, KENYA (in February 2009 by Exectutive Order), and the STATE OF ISRAEL. I guess the skewls don't teach geography any more.

SEE, OBAMA DID visit all 57 States!

POP QUIZ: Obama was born in one of the above-listed States. Can you name it?

From my point of view out here in Loonie Land, there's a rising tide amongst right-of-center as well as moderate folks for El Trumpo.  People are downright just fed up with the propaganda and PC crap being shoved down their throats.  Yeah, for some reason, there are a lot of folks coming awake, even if just a bit, but enough to see that the D's and EstR's are all the one and same BS or No Choice.
And to boot, quite a number of 'moderates" and a godzillion "independents" are falling into that same camp.
I further love that when some apoplectic D's (like they still foam at the mane Sarah Palin, they're terribly frightened of something) say things like The Donald doesn't have any policies ....  Well fuck me, neither do any of the other candidates.  No policies, the Donald let's say, take a stand on immigration (They'll all be gone in 2 years).  Hmmmm.  He has indeed said many things that could be taken as even stronger statements of policy that anybody else, so far.
Just that folks seem to want to hear nice psychotic ruminations that leave the mentally disturbed and frightened too comfortable for the next 4 years.
Try listening to radio commentary.  They're excoriating the EstR's right alongside the D's.  And there're a LOT of listeners, so somethings happening.

Knuk - on target as usual.  it is telling that the donald and bernie are so popular with their respective parties.....way out on the fringes, nothing in common at all except that both claim to be outside of the everyday payoff meme.  I wish to hell there were a strong moderate-libertarian candidate (a realistic one).

I think Knuk is right, there's something different in the wind this time - as far as the normally walking dead pulling there head slightly above ground to sneak a peak and test what the MSM has declared to be our inevitable general election candidates.  They're not buying what the pundits are selling, at least not as readily....

It looks to me a majority are already convinced who they will support, Not Bush or Clinton.

Bernie and Trump have that very important thing in common, they're not a Bush or a Clinton and don't seem to be concerned with what the Pundits think. Not to mention they actually expose themselves to real people with real questions, AND ANSWER THEM!

Problem is, the People may be bucking the establishment, but the People haven't picked the Prez in a long time!  That probably wont change and if they do manage to select two outsiders for the General election the establishment will come unglued, and the election will be, lets say delayed a bit.  We have wars to fight you know....

Question, Zippy (um, 'knukles'):

What are 'EstR's'?

'Erhard Seminar Trained' Republicans? "Participants agreed to follow the ground rules which included not wearing watches, not talking until called upon, not eating at or leaving their seats to go to the bathroom except during breaks separated by many hours."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erhard_Seminars_Training

I remember the Moonies standing at the corner of P.C.H. and Hawthorne Blvd. in Torrance, trying to sell their flowers (just like in the movie 'Airplane'). NO, SERIOUSLY.

Every ESTer I met had piss and shit stains on their pants, and didn't know what time it was (and seemed afraid to ask). EVERY ONE OF THEM to this day are registered 'R' people (except for a few, who seem to be supporting Bernie Sanders; thinking him to be a re-encarnation of George McGovern; breakaways who secretly worship 'Reverend' Son Yong Moon. HALLELUIAH!).

Hannity said on the radio in 2008 that he 'didn't even know who Sarah Palin even (sic) is', but '(sic) I like her'. That was the day OF the announcement of the McPhalin 'ticket'. I was listening to the radio on the way to Minneapolis from my hotel room in Blayne, MN., to attend a 'Rally For The Republic' book-signing at Border's. She is a graduate of University of Idaho (as are LOTS of 'Hanford Downwinders'). I can see Israel from her house (NO, not ACTUALLY. I can see the Military-industrial Complex from her front lawn/mound/lush overgrown patch, though). I, DID NOT, HAVE, SEX, WITH THAT WOMAN (but, LOTS of EstR's want to).

Donald's hair really IS 'natural', you know. 'Just For Men' hair coloring has NOTHING to do with it.

When Canada agrees to become a State, I might have to change my vote to Ted Cruz. WEIRD, a Canadian citizen, who's family came all the way up from Mexico...

I respectfully disagree.

The ones who control the money supply also control the counting of the votes (which is what REALLY counts).

Your avatar pic reminds me of an old song. May I share it with you? It's pretty 'badass':

WB7's Dad died, you know. His Mom died two years ago (to the day). I'd say, by the quality of his artistry and insights, that he had two of the best parents that a man could wish for. The people/entities who REALLY control the 'money supply' couldn't give two shits and a dirty fuck about this fact (in fact, they CELEBRATE death and destruction).

I shouldn't have included this last paragraph. FUCK. Now i want a beer. Or a Scotch.

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-09-15/back-power-again

If the money really IS 'worthless fiat paper', than they REALLY don't give a shit about WHO donates (in this statement, you are CORRECT).

Well I guess those folks in North and South Dakota, not to mention Wyoming and Idaho, must feel pretty much "left out" from the money trail.  Their parts of the Money Map are white ... nuttin'.  Maybe that's the way that they prefer things anyway.

Democracy is dead when we allow this kind of stuff to set political agendas.

I'd feel better about Trump being "outside the System" ... except that he made all of his money by being inside the System.  Don't tell me for one second, that isn't gonna influence everything he does.  It's everything.

Interesting post, but I suspect the first four maps are probably just a reflection of were most of the population is.  SF, LA, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, New York, DC, and Miami and a few other urban centers covers all the rich folk in the country. Clearly rich Democrats and Republicans live close to each other.

The Trump map is compelling.  He really is self financing something to ponder...
