This Is The Satellite Image That Supposedly Proves The Presence Of Russian "Troops And Aircraft" In Syria
In a day of diplomatic snafus by the Pentagon, which first admitted it had spec ops forces in Syria (remember when it was just "advisors" and the Obama administration was blaming Russia for escalating the conflict by daring to join the fight against ISIS and sending its own troops in Damascus) then promptly retracted, using the old "there was no Freudian slip" explanation, the US promptly needed another diversion to cast the blame back in Putin's court.
Which brings us to our post from Monday in which "anonymous" US officials told Reuters that "Russia has positioned about a half dozen tanks at a Syrian airfield where it has been steadily building up defenses" with Reuters adding that "one of the U.S. officials said seven Russian T-90 tanks were seen at the airfield near Latakia, a stronghold of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The two U.S. officials said Russia had also positioned artillery there" adding that "the two U.S. officials said Russia had also positioned artillery, which they said appeared."
Our request was simple: "We can only hope the "anonymous" US officials will soon provide photographic evidence of their claims."
Today, we got this "evidence" when Foreign Policy magazine released a satellite image which, according to the author Jeffrey Lewis "Leaves No Doubt That Russia Is Throwing Troops and Aircraft Into Syria."
On Sept. 4, the New York Times published an article suggesting that Russia had shipped prefabricated housing and a transportable air traffic control station to an airfield near Latakia. It was a great scoop, but I was pretty baffled that the New York Times didn’t bother to purchase a satellite image of the facility. Had they done so, they would have realized that they buried the lede.
The satellite image shows far more than prefabricated housing and an air traffic control station. It shows extensive construction of what appears to be a military canton at Bassel al-Assad International Airport (named for Bashar’s elder brother, who died in a car accident in 1994). This canton appears designed to support Russian combat air operations from the base and may serve as a logistical hub for Russian combat forces.
The scale of the construction goes even further. A large area of ground has been cleared in many different parts of the air base. There are pallets and crates everywhere. Trucks are visible driving into the site. The image drives home the implication of all those flights and shipments heading to Syria: Russia is substantially expanding its involvement.
Is there "no doubt" as the author claims this is happening? We leave it to readers to decide. One thing that is certain is that earlier today it was the US which first admitted it had spec ops in Syria in what could be the most inconvenient Freudian slip in recent "proxy war" history, and then was promptly forced to retract it.
As for Russian forces "undoubtedly" throwing troops into Syria, well - decide for yourself. Here is FP's before and after satellite image "evidence." It's important because images such as these are the modern equivalent of Colin Powell's vial of WMDs presented to the United Nations in 2003 to justify the war with Iraq.

the people that know the least about the world have the most deadly weapons in history...and they are bankrupt beyond all mathematical hope...hooray NFL season is here! http://www.philiacband.com/propaganda.html
The Rooskies should just plop 80,000 or more troops and heavy armor in there, steamroll ISIS to the tune of 50,000 or more casualties and then worry about world opinion later.
They should really contract to me for quality photoshopped pics
Anyone else notice we were friends with Russia until they let Snowden in? Coincidence?
Coincidence?
Likely so.. The Russians want no part of our direct sphere of influence and control, so we must marginalize and displace them..
Just like in 1917.
OH NOES!!! 2 MORE HELIPADS!!! WE NEED TO START WW3 STAT!!
AND VEHICLE TRAFFIC, WE CAN'T HAVE THAT EITHER!!!
Where's Waldov?
I just remember that ignorant Colin Powell showing us a picture of a truck moving a "mobile missle launcher" that turned out to be a gasoline truck making a delivery. Stoopid CIA, ignorant general/sec. of Satte.
Actually its not the Helipads that are the problem, its the GROUND CLEARING!!!
How can one NOT be struck by the hypocrisy of Israel or the U.S. calling any other power out for having licit or illicit bases in another country?! My God... can you imagine the tome of satellite photographs that must exist showing the latter's fingerprints?
Sometimes I have to pinch myself when considering such things.
Those are great images. If you stare at them and squint for ahwile you can make out Jimmy Hoffa's grave and the missing WMDs from Iraq.
It's natural for Ohongo to see Reggie's cock in every picture.
You're just a bunch of non-progressive racist, homophobics.
Oes Noes
The Russians are coming
Lock up your wives.
Hope they got a permit for the ground disturbance,
The EPA will be all over them

Take another look at that "ground clearing" on the right-hand side. That's a flower garden! I know, because I just finished planting a bunch of tulip bulbs, and it looks just like that.
Are those olive groves? So close to the airbase? The Syrian Government must trust its people....
I'm confused. I thought this was the picture that proved the Russians were in Ukraine!
Man! Those are some weird looking skid marks on that runway. They must be using gyrocopters. Yup, state of the art...
;-D
This is the usual MSM spew as directed by ZATO. Bibi is all butt-hurt that Assad took out one of his F-16s a few weeks ago - censored in the MSM of course.
Israel lost an F-16 to a Syrian S-300 near the end of August. It was defending al Nusra that were attacking something in Quneitra. The Israelis are desperate to annex more land inside Syria and need their al Nusra rats to take over Quneitra. The Israelis pretty much want to steal all the UNDOF-guarded buffer zone from Syria and declare a new buffer zone even further inside Syria so they can finally attack Hezbollah in Southern Lebanon with their aircraft WITHOUT worrying about Syrian air defense.
On the map, you'll see Mt. Hermon. The highest spot near there is Jabal ash Shaykh, the northern tip of the UNDOF zone, which Israel figures it owns. Like the Golan, Israel will not be happy without owning everything that might be used to resist their aggression. Syrian air defense sites on ash Shaykh would be problematic for them, and they want their own missile bases there to attack Damascus. They also need to invade Southern Lebanon and ethnically cleanse the Shebaa Farms and attack Hezbollah, but they can't do that without controlling the mountains.
The Israeli airstrike earlier this week was further up in Beqaa Valley. This is a place of extreme historic significance to Israel. They were able to take out Syria's entire Soviet-era air defense network there in 1982. Israel has basically uses the same strategy today - take out all the SAM sites on the Syrian side of the Golan, then take out all Syrian SAM sites around Damascus and in the Beqaa Valley. They're trying to do that last part now, but then Russia showed up to spoil the party.
Israel was able to use al Nusra for the Syrian Golan SAM sites, but they're starting to lose those. Al Nusra just isn't as reliable as they thought. Israel has been trying to use al Nusra in Quneitra and Shebba Farms, but they keep getting their ass kicked by Hezbollah and the SAA. The recent loss of al Zabadani means their al Nusra/FSA Beqaa valley conquest is not going well either. In other words, their 'defeat the Syrian air defense network' has hit a wall.
Nettanyahu is heading to Moscow next week to threaten Putin. We'll see how well that goes. The current MSM spew is suppose to demonize Russia vis Syria and bolster Israel's psychopathic plans in the eyes of the public. So far, it's been a colossal failure. Everyone hates Israel and everyone likes Russia (except ZATO - and they're starting to come around).
Bibi's threats to nuke the Middle East always let him get whatever he wanted from the U.S. in the past. I would kill to be a fly on the wall of the Nettanyahu-Putin meeting. Bibi goes into a long rant about Hezbollah and Iran, threatening to nuke them both. Putin (bored - trying to remain awake) looks at his watch and says "Are we done here yet, you fucking psychopath? Nuke whomever you want. Russia will attend to her interests however we see fit." Leaving a sputtering, red-faced Nettanyahu demanding promises for Israel's protection as Putin walks out the door - laughing.
Your analysis is childlike fantasy delusion .... do you go into a funk of depression .... when the IDF and Mossad pop your bubble ?
Why are you guys up so late? Don't you have the balls to tell your boss to fuck off?
I did up-vote you for the laugh. Haven't seen the claws come out in a while. I hope you can do better than this, though. ZH readers deserve top-shelf entertainment.
wait, wait....Bib's strategy of stirring up trouble in Ukraine, didn't 'force' Russia to slink away from the ME, tail between legs? Do you think Bib's going to threaten to double down? "We can make your life even MOAR difficult?" I don't think Mother Merkel is thrilled with the Saudis sending jihadis to fight on Europe's border. Afghan...Chechen...not her problem. But Ungvar?! This is getting out of hand. Not to mention her little brothers - Serbia, Croatia being overun with refugees. And Bibs really can't deliver BHO, right? Because he's insulted him one too many times, showboating before Congress. Americans want out of the ME, not in further. America First...make like Switzerland and protect our own.... And Congress knows it. Lindsay Graham can't muster 1% support. Who falls first, BIbs or Putin? I think Bibs is highly replaceable. A miscalulation this big has to have him really sweating. He's going to Russia to save his own job.
You're an asshole "Monetas"!

But what's the role of Egypt in this turmoil?
Could we have a new '67?
Egypt has too many moving pieces for me to figure out. I can't possibly see a '67 because Egypt has been destroyed. Not as bad as Libya, but Egypt is not Egypt any more. Not sure what it is.
I realize the conflict between Syria and Israel, but to the best of my knowledge Syria has never done anything to the United States.
Why exactly all the propaganda that Assad must go? At least Christians are safe under his dictatorship.
Putin should have Bibi's flight sabotaged for the return trip. They want Putin dead so fuck 'em. Air accidents happen all the time, right?

Putin, Russia, Syria and Hezbollah better start getting anti-aircraft batteries and S-300's working.
I tweeted her with the link about the MSM portraying the Kosovo-Afghan Mafia thugs as Syrian refugees and she deleted my tweet. <sigh...>
"...Putin, Russia, Syria and Hezbollah better start getting anti-aircraft batteries and S-300's working..."
They already scored one F-16 last month. They know exactly what Israel is doing, but Israel and the U.S. seem confused about what Russia is doing. No doubt this accounts for a lot of the current whining about 'Russian Invasion'. I think we'll see many more downed Israeli jets before this is all over. Bibi is going to f'king SNAP! It's going to be epic.
Booboo snapped years ago.
When he gets frustrated, he usually takes it out on the Gazans. Currently, all is quiet on the Gazan front, so watch out for a sudden burst of bottle rockets fired by Israel's agents from Gaza into the fields around Sderot.
Putin should start pimping grainy satellite videos of US/NATO bases in Europe (Germany would be best) and start beating the war drums about how unacceptable it is that US troops would be on European soil.
This reads like a George Washington piece.
People really need to wake up.
The U.S. has absolutely exquisite space-based observation capabilities far beyond the laughable descriptions in Hollywood movies.
When an area of interest is selected somewhere on the Earth's surface, you can bet your ass the U.S. knows, in detail, what is there.
The specifics of these systems are some of our nation's most closely held secrets. If you want to know more, go to work for the National
Reconnaissance Office. The best stuff is rarely seen by the general public. It is most certainly not given to weak-ass rags like the liberal Foreign Policy Mag.
Exclusive Space based observation capabilities. ? The one against whom usa is dealing with has pioneered space already.

Think about what Hubble is capable of.
Think about pointing that thing down at the earth.
Likely be able to get a decent idea of your level of hair loss.
Remember, the military get all the best toys - they can probaly count your nose hairs.
Hubble is a former spy satellite, and it was an older one when they decided to launch it up into the sky.
But Webster Hubbell is Chelsea Clinton's real father.

Soz, hate to burst your bubble, but the military is equipped like a ramshackle shithouse. That crap you see on Hollywood is actually much better than what they have.
Don't belive? Do a stint or two - you'll learn.

Prove it DW. I worked in Defence and there's more speculation than evidence. If you cant show evidence you're just pissing in the wind with uncle sam.
Get a copy of "Deep Black"
Simply the definitive book on US intelligence-gathering from air-vehicles, space-borne platforms and sub-surface systems. Burroughs work is thorough and informative. Though now dated by more than a decade's worth of technological improvements, the basics of intelligence and counter-intelligence systems are well-covered here. The sections on aircraft (RC-135, U-2, TR-1, A-12, SR-71) and satellites are simply fascinating.
It's a shame this book is out-of-print. It would be nice to see a limited production run, perhaps a new edition. Mr. Burroughs, how about "Deep Black 2, The Next Generation"?
Based on that you would've thought that the US if they had conclusive satellite imagery of the shooting down of the Malaysian airliner could have proved beyond reasonable doubt the perpetrator.
Yes, the US have satellite with far better resolution than 1m, that can clearly identify the type of vehicles. Some source say 15 cm resolution for Keyhole satellites with more than 2m mirrors. In fact, there is not a single Hubble satellite in orbit but five when you count the four Keyhole that are very similar but pointing in the other direction ...

More bs and blatant hypocrisy for the ZioNazis. These are not hardened hangars for military aircraft. And since when is it a big deal when an ally of a given country builds 'military' facilities in that country at the invitation of the legitimate government of said country? It is not like Russia has invaded Syria.
The US wants to re-open the bases it had in Iceland during the Cold War. If the Iceland governemt says no, will they be given a dose of US Democracy?

rather have a dose of the clap. it's easier to get rid of.
I have some *big news*! A major world power has been discovered to have established military bases that for some reason are *not* on their home soil. They seem to have arrayed these bases in more than 160 countries in 796 total locations in an effort to enforce their military control of the Earth's surface. I can prove it.
This is just *one* of the 796 bases, you will see it is full of combat aircraft that are ready to launch:

If this level of vehicle traffic is a reason to bomb, then anyone who's driven in D.C. must recognize a nuke is needed there.
Anyone who's ever been trapped at LaGuardia for 9 hours knows that 8 is a good enough excuse for a nuke!

More like friends until the end of Yeltsin and "friends" till Bush Jr. left.
It all went very much downhill after Bush. There's a lot of personal resentment between Putin and Obama.
George W. looked deep into Vladimir's eyes and fell in love.
Anyone notice we still cooperate with the Russians in the space program? WTF?
think you got your cause & effect backwards there - putin took snowden in to give us the finger b/c relations were already heading south. it probably didn't help but on the ledger of us/russian tensions he's a rounding error. putin is FAR from a "good guy" but I'm not sure how much (if any) more of a "bad guy" he is than us anymore.
& while assad is most definitely a bad guy there are worse outcomes for the situation in syria than for the russians to go in & drop an anvil on the civil war even if that means he stays in power.
you might want to bounce that one off of actual Russians
MS Paint is for pros who can't give two fucks about presentation. I like to see government workers cutting to the shit and just flagging all suspicious movements in 16bit yellow font ,rectangles and arrows.
So military vehicles now have transponders to identify themselves? Or is that just special forces in Syria?
Yep, dey do
Ain't gonna happen.
They're reinforcing Assad-held part of Syria with the hardware. RA will not be deployed proper in numbers, there's zero chance of that.
Exactly. Here we would have a discussion. Oh! We need to have a discussion on that!
+1000. Could not agree more. I sat on a cross-country flight with a military doctor that was serving in Afghanistan. After a couple of drinks he opened up about how horrible the situation is. He said that the Russians were absolutely merciless in Afghanistan and for the good of the world the US should have let the Russians finish the job. Watch 'Charlie Wilsons War' after hearing that...fuck Charlie Wilson.
CORRECTION !!!
It's the BOLSHEVIK SOVIET UNION (USSR) that went into Afghan! NOT the Russian Federation.
The average masses often get confused the USSR construct vs the Russian!!
I guess the MSM mouthpieces never intend to make clear the differences between the two... so they can demonize Putin as another Stalin and so on...
here here
Do you really think the Russians would take that many casualties?

The photos look genuine to me and the CIA has authenticated them. I say start that damn war with the Russkies right now.
Big surprise. Russian mig pilots in North Korean skies, Russian SAM site operators in North Vietnam. A Democrat in the white house digging us in deeper and deeper because his ego won't let him fold. Deja-Vue?
Facebook type "intelligence"; reminds me of the Russian "invasion" of Ukraine. What a bunch of amateurish retards...
That is unfair to retards.
Might as well start WWIII.
We'll all be swept away to heaven right before anything bad happens to us anyway. Right?...Right?
ooooooooooooooooooooooo scaaaaaaaary....
Go Russia the most important economic land mass of the 21st century.
While there are indeed Russian troops on the ground in Syria, I'm not sure what kind of point is this evidence of roadworks is supposed to make.
But, PUUUTIN!
Because "Vehicle Traffic".
I mean even if I was opposed to the Russians being on the ground and needed some convincing, those pictures are not doing it for me.
Looks abundantly clear to me...The Russians Are Coming"..."The Russians Are Coming"...wait that was a 1996 comedy film..
More like 1966, when fear of the Soviet threat was in full bloom. Great movie, making fun of official paranoia.
As someone who grew up during the Cold War, I NEVER, EVER thought that I would someday root for the Russians.
Just might be because they actually managed to produce better photos in the 60's: http://cdn.history.com/sites/2/2015/07/hith-cuban-missile-crisis.jpg
That picture was taken by a U2 spy plane.
I wonder if I would end up on a terror watch list if I sent a care package of candy and gourmet coffee beans to that airbase?
No problem there, just FFS do NOT send any Vodka
All together now----"Duck And Cover" !!
Me too. Hard to believe Putin is one of the people I admire most - and that I see it is an asset that he was a KGB agent. It's the CIA and NSA that frighten me.
I lived about a mile from the end of the longest runway in Europe at the time - Burtonwood aifield - Joint US UK.
I remember Vulcan bombers flying over the house so low that they messed with TV reception.
Cuban Missile crisis is still vivid for me. I was only 7 but I remember how scared everyone seemed to be.
I don't do the rooting for Russia thing however. What I've got from observing as closely as I can is that government is the problem - Doesn't matter where or when.
Great analogy with this being the equivalent of WMDs in Iraq.
I see a future 'unfortunate incident' followed by the word 'consequences' in leading news stories...
Look again -- you have to squint a little.

US MIC is there, Russian MIC is there, WWIII stage set.

Pavement of Mass Destruction?
So absurd! Russian Times has published pictures and openly spoken of Russian troops on Syrian soil. At least Russia has a legitimate interest in the pipelines that they operate that run through Syria. Guess the US wants them to give to the Chinese, like they did for oil for which lots of people paid the ultimate prices. (In that war that "would pay for itself" remember?) Europe may want to rethink NATO as winter is coming.
Are you refering to the few russian "troops" that have been there on a small base since before the fighting started?
RT completely debunked the BS story started by the Israeli medi that Russia was sending a force into Syria. Jets, heavy weapons, and a full expeditionary force. RT took that BS story apart and showed it was false.
Around Sept 3 the Tylers also parroted the Israeli media storyline that this huge force was going to be there in just days. So, where is it?
The cold winds are rising
Looks like the same "proof" they tried to pass off when they claimed Putin was invading the Ukraine.
Those sneaky Russians. At it again. Who knows what they've built underground. Probably a hockey rink.
At least the coming cold winter will keep their numbers down.
A cold winter won't phase the Russians. They can handle cold.
A cold winter won't faze them either. ISIS, however....
Let's be clear here. Green Beeniez are tasked to be "advisors" and are also "Spec Opz" dudes and dudettez and are also bug eaterz.
It is a thang.

Much better than the crayon drawings used as proof of mobile chemical weapons labs used to justify the Iraq invasion. As a taxpayer, I felt a little robbed by the lack of effort of the propagandist in that one.
but the pictures of the FEMA camps and coffin liners are FAKE ahahahahhaahha....................Murica
It's wise not to believe anything governments say, that of the US or Russia, or any other.
Indeed.
You can know automatically the images are fake. It says so in the title: satellite. The word "satellite" is double speak code. A "satellite image" is fake or at best, a misrepresentation of some sort. No need to even look to know that.
People often ask why the Russians have not released "satellite images" of the MH17 shot down over Ukraine. The reason is because there are none. Oh, the Russians have images but they are not "satellite" images. Westerners have been brain-fucked by NASA Hollyweird to expect and to demand picture-perfect bird's eye "satellite" images. It is part of the hurdles of modern information wars.
Help me understand. Russian troops prepping a foward base... Whats the problem?
Clue#1: ISIS/ISIL never attacks Isreal. That is, The Islamic State doesn't attack the Jewish State, See the tear in the Matrix yet?
