TSLA Dumped, AAPL Pumped As iCar Planned For 2019
The iCar is coming...
- *APPLE SAID TO SET 2019 TARGET SHIP DATE FOR ELECTRIC CAR: WSJ
- *WSJ CITES PEOPLE FAMILIAR WITH APPLE PLANS FOR ELECTRIC CAR
As The Wall Street Journal reports,
Apple Inc. is accelerating efforts to build an electric car, designating it internally as a “committed project” and setting a target ship date for 2019, according to people familiar with the matter.
The go-ahead came after the company spent more than a year investigating the feasibility of an Apple-branded car, including meetings with two groups of government officials in California. Leaders of the project, code-named Titan , have been given permission to triple the 600-person team, the people familiar with the matter said.
Apple has hired experts in driverless cars, but the people familiar with Apple’s plans said the Cupertino, Calif., company doesn’t currently plan to make its first electric vehicle fully autonomous. That capability is part of the product’s long-term plans, the people familiar with the matter said.
...
There are many unanswered questions about Apple’s automotive foray. It isn’t clear whether Apple has a manufacturing partner to become the car equivalent of Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., the Taiwanese contract manufacturer that builds most iPhones and is known by the trade name Foxconn. Most major auto makers build and run their own factories, but that hasn’t been Apple’s strategy with iPhones or iPads. Contract manufacturing in the auto industry usually is limited to a few niche models.
The 2019 target is ambitious. Building a car is a complex endeavor, even more so for a company without any experience. Once Apple completes its designs and prototypes, a vehicle would still need to undergo a litany of tests before it could clear regulatory hurdles.
In Apple’s parlance, a “ship date” doesn’t necessarily mean the date that customers receive a new product; it can also mean the date that engineers sign off on the product’s main features.
And Tesla is not happy...

AAPL to buy TSLA in 2018 so it can build car for 2019?
Am I going to have to sign a 2 year contract on one of those or do they have an unlocked version?
When does the iCar S come out?
OMG, Y'all!
I'm SO torn right now! Do I need to start camping out to get the first dibs on this iCar now? I mean, I'd love to but I also have to fight prejudice towards transgender people and campaign for Hillary!
Priorities...
Does it come infested with mice???
If it does they would be the highly intelligent imouse.
My only concern is how big the iCar cases will be.
To be fair to creBapple, the iTV was planned in 2008 and was slated to take 4 years. In that time the stock pump scheme was intense.
I'll invest once they design an iHouse. That should put the market in wait and see mode for another decade or so.
These constant "coming soon" releases are pretty obvious. They only have 2 products and are losing ground. It's desperation mode, much like the Fed.
Yet another electric car build out. The era of oil-based personal transportation in the USA is over.
Got that oil-soaked punks?
This is what happens when you have $200 billion lying around and no ideas. A watch, when nobody wears them any more. And an electric car, when battery technology is always 20 years away.
The stock should be dumped because it proves they are out of ideas and leaderless.
It's TWO YEARS AWAY, Dude, like the galactic improvements in solar energy. Always, forever siempre manana!
You gonna believe the mass media or your lying eyes? ;)
That $200B might come in handy to float the company through the next period of no ideas.
You know some bureacrate is going to be looking for a regulatory lapse at APPL, so they can fine them $200B. Hey, we need the money...
Yup and 2/3 ds of it unrecoverable overseas.
Spend it overseas.
Go only company doing R and D.
Stuff we don't need, but Yea R and D!
Never forget, they've always got one more play: iPresident and iCongress.
In three years everyone has $200 billion lying around...
As soon as they can figure out how to make the battery non-replacable.
Weld two parts of the unibody around the battery, thus DIY battery replacement would make the vehicle structurally unsound.
Being AAPL they will probably glue the parts together.
These were a real pain in the ass to rebuild.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotus_Europa
Well I'm gonna take an iShit in my iToilet while I wait.....
Yeah, I'm not going to buy a car that I cannot replace the battery myself.
Don't forget that Tesla open sourced its IP. That means that Apple doesn't need to buy Tesla to build a car based on their tech. In fact this is what I think they will do, while actively working in partnership with Tesla and using some of their products (e.g. batteries and electric motors). This is also how they could conceivably meet their 2019 target.
Because American car companies have been sooooo successful recently. How much profit does TSLA make again? Oh yeah...
On that logic:
Because phone makers have been sooooo successful recently. How much profit did AMZN make on the Fire phone?
AMZN is not a phone maker, they are a reseller.
Do the world a favor and sell AAPL.
Now sell the rip......
Apple Inc. is accelerating efforts to build an electric car, designating it internally as a “committed project” and setting a target ship date for 2019, according to people familiar with the matter.
Wow.
And I was beginning to think that Apple had no guts.
Apple may have some guts, but there is no core.
That died with Jobs.
AAPL can buy TSLA and VOW for peanuts
Hmmmm.
Apple cash: USD 203 B
VOW market cap: USD 86.15 B
TSLA market cap: USD 33.83 B
Money left in jeans: USD 83 B.
What else can I buy?
Here's another Thought....
Why build new when you can buy existing corp on the Cheap...and profitable ones at that...not the glamor and BS associated with TSLA...
HMC-Honda-61.4 B with proven performance, proven track record on profits, and a path to Hydrogen as they have rightfully
dumped off Hybrids and LNG Civics in exchange for Fuel Cell Technology(second generation, no less)
http://automobiles.honda.com/honda-fcv/
Yeah, but a Tesla is cool.
All the cool guys drive Teslas, and they get all the girls.
Except the gay guys who drive Teslas. They get all the ... um... well... I'm not sure that they get.
They get all the assholes that they deserve.
Should be a hybrid. Otherwise epic failure
agreed ~ I suspect many people will be saying the very same thing.
You need to learn to THINK DIFFERENT, OK?
You have a narrow, utilitarian way of thinking that just does not cut it with today's trendy buyer. They don't want a lame-ass Prius, a'ight? Jeez!
Also, Apple customers are used to plugging in their laptop, their iphone, and their watch. How confusing would it be for them if they didn't then need to plug in their car?
The plug-in model is great for Apple anyway: all sorts of suppliers can offer offer add-on colored tassles to attach and 'customize' your plug, so people can tell you are a rare individual!
People are gonna be SOOOOO jazzed! (ON TV)
Plus, they can change the connector every few years and you'll be forced to buy a new car because... connector...
That is so perverted,
and so true.
If it still wanted to be a "Think Different" company, Apple Car would be a 400+ cu V8...there is *still* no replacement for displacement.
Yep. 333HP and 340 lb ft torque in my B7 S4.
You'd be surprised at the number of ricer Civics with 3" tailpipes who want to take me on at a light.
I've even had a Prius and a minivan try to beat me off the line.
It's fun listening to them red line their engines only to get smoked once I really step on the go pedal.
That barely holds true today but I like the way you think. Gas is cheap too!
If they didn't jump the shark with the watch and the $100 pen surely this will do it. I see very few iWatches, but man does that thing identify its owner as a douchebag
When a company dominates and saturates its traditional markets, it branches out into new areas in which it has absolutely no experience. These ventures more often than not tend to be epic failures and result in the company eventually retrenching back to its "core" areas of expertise but only after a massive cost to the shareholder.
I'm gonna laugh so hard when I see losers on the street with these buggy, lame-ass status symbols.
Talk about a miserable lack of vision from Apple though. Jumping into the most over-capacity market (how many millions of cars world-wide are sitting in lots, unsold, many of them 'electric'?), they are going to find out that cars are very different to manufacture, service and sell from both phones and watches. They are going to F up, big time, I bet!
Anybody remember the Sinclair elecrtic car ?
It sank Sinclair electronics.
Apple and TESLA , like two fags fighting in a gay bar.
Fighting?
Shouldn't it be more like, "Bitch Slapping" or Scratching Each Other?
Siri, what does hubris mean?
I'm sure ZH will still be calling for AAPL to go to zero when it's $500 a share.
Right - a $3.5 trillion market cap.
ZH won't be calling for AAPL to go to zero then, rather they'll be chronicling the $10,000 loaf of bread and the rise of the barter economy
Do I detect an iCrapper?
Do I detect a 6th grader?
If I dumped you in the middle of the forest without anything but the slothes on your back... how long before you could send me a text message?
[Powerful Joe Rogan]
Only fags send text messages. Real men call.
And who is going to manufacture thes fantasy cars?
Keep pumping the lies because its all you got.
They will sell kits and people can assemble them in the comfort of their own garage!
When is China going to buy Apple?
Maybe 2 years away, maybe less.
My money is BYD and Mr. Buffet.
Uncle Warren needs a desperate shot to pump up BYD's shares.
Imagine the limit up moves if Cook announces that BYD will get the contract.
I have said it and it will be so.
what's the screen size?
Thank you for that

Stop the ride, I want to get off.
Tesla's stock should be plummeting because of Porsche, Audi, and the rest of the Germans showing off cars last week that make the Tesla look like a carriage from 1880.
I dont car(e)
Behold The iCar:
- forces you to drink flouridated tap water
- drives itslelf to Primary Dealer retail banking locations so you can more efficiently wait to be fleeced
- automatically sends your location and status updates to the NSA on your behalf in case you forget to do so on fakebook
I can't wait to see the white box it comes inside of.
I heard that if youbuy an Apple iCar, you get a set of free license plates that say, I8-DICK.
Reggie Middleton. Where are you ????
How do you make a car just an eighth of an inch thick?
Oh, and come on ZH, give it up on TSLA "crashing" (sic), it's actually up a quarter right now, and even session lows would be well above 20ma.
Trust your Apple iUber to either take you home safely or end up like the segway inventer. Time to rain down the bullets. These are the fucker's stealing technology under Chris Dodd.
Kim Dotcom will walk. Government emails will be exposed. I like Kim. He's a down to earth guy.
Segway tycoon Jimi Heselden dies in cliff plunge on one of his own ...
Get your facts straight Einstein... The Segway was invented by Dean Kamen. Heselden bout the rights and drove it off a cliff. Literally.
If you can't even get that right, why would anyone listen your other "points"?
Lot's of new Internet platforms that will jackwagon Microsoft OS 10 release. Why do you think its free for a year?
Great new technology unfolding in encryption. Bravo team.
Definitely a load of hubris...
Unbelievable. Any idiot in marketing knows that cars are a commodity that you don't fuck with. The list of defunct car manufacturers should give anyone pause.
And of course, Apple goes one step further and will try to make a fully electric vehicle, even though they hold no patents in battery tech like Tesla does (not to say I like Tesla, but they do have their shit together). Its funny how they must think that a car will be as easy as making a phone, too bad they will learn the hard way when they can't iUpdate their way out of everything. Also, people might go out and buy the new iPhone, but I'd love to see those hippies try to spend 8 grand to trade in for the new car, and then on top of that the 400-500 a month to ride it around town (because, lets be honest, the range on the Apple car will be pitiful).
Then there's the maintenance stations Apple needs to build, the mechanics they need to train, the electric-charging stations they need to build (or purchase licenses from Tesla), the suppliers they need to audit at a standard 100x higher than those who make electronics, cause cars, unlike phones, kill people folks!
My bet is that they do a rush job, make some stupid semi-goodlooking luxury sportscar, slap a 100 mile per charge limit, and then see it flop when they realize that mercedes bmw and every godamn car company out there has already made a luxury electric sportscar that looks better, runs better, and has the brand to back it up.
Sorry, but I don't want to buy a car from a company that can't even prevent their phones from bending in my pocket. What a joke. The stock went up on hype, its BTFD, herd-behavior. If everyone believes that the stock will go up on news, then it goes up on the news, doesn't mean that everyone ACTUALLY thinks that AAPL is worth more. This is like day trading 101. Can;t wait to see the muppets get slaughtered (again) on this one.
But will it be equipped with a built-in I-watch?
If you run out of innovation, just build a car, problem solved.
Whats wrong with innovating the car?
What if Apples grand plan is to turn their car into moving wifi brodcasting "stations" that can roll out (literally) mega high speed wireless / Internet and entire developing countries won't have to buy a single telephone pole?
Ooops. I didn't mention that. Never mind. Pretend you didn't reead that.
Pretty much - APPLE has to team up with a bonafide auto manufacturer to make this work. They can't "come from nothing" and suddenly start being a player in the auto industry.
Therefore, if this is a serious move by APPLE - watch for a major announcement of a partnership between APPLE and a well known auto manufacturer.
Not impossible. But a very big move for APPLE.

I mean why not, Swatch was a partner in the Smart Car joint venture.
I wouldn't buy a piece of $hit apple car. Apple cars are for social pandering hypocritical idiots from CA. Look at me..., I'm green, gay, and cool. Merika is so in trouble.
I'll take the 300-squirrelpower edition
https://www.youtube.com/embed/rAqPMJFaEdY
Just what I need. An over-priced car with lousy battery life that I'll have to replace in 18 months.
Tesla is going to make T-Phones.
Shipping date, looooooooool.
Ya that will make me hold my shares until then fo shoe. I heard it will have the real apple tv installed and can only be started while blowing on the watch.
APPLE has got the money to do this.
The question is - can they make it a success???
There is NO POINT in Apple stepping in and buying Tesla as a direct source of vehicles.
Tesla models are high-end price ... way beyond the buying power of the average public. If APPLE is going to succeed, they must build an electric car for an affordable price. That is a big challenge. They might buy the technology from Elon Musk - but the iCAR is going to have to be a unique design.
This is Make or Break for Apple.
I think Tesla has indicated that they are working on a model III (formerly model E) that will have a target price of $40 K.
