Clinton Takes Aim At Soaring Drug Costs, Proposes $250 Monthly Cap
On Monday, the soaring cost of prescription drugs was thrust back into the limelight when hedge fund manager turned-serial pharma startup mogul Martin Shkreli made the rounds to explain why his company, Turing Pharmaceuticals, decided to raise the cost of a 62-year-old treatment for life-threatening parasitic infections from $13.50 to $750 a pill virtually overnight.
Shkreli’s answer: “This is still one of the smallest pharmaceutical products in the world. It really doesn’t make sense to get any criticism for this.”
Unfortunately for Shkreli - who also said the price increase is just Turing “trying to stay in business” - some people aren’t buying the idea that unbridled free market principles should pertain wholesale in life or death situations.
As it stands, the industry’s structure essentially allows drug companies to simply charge the highest price they believe the market will tolerate which, pretty much by definition, means that manufacturers are intentionally pushing patients to the financial breaking point. For her part, Hillary Clinton says she would solve the problem in the (increasingly unlikely) event that she becomes President. Here’s more from The Washington Post:
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton is proposing a $250 monthly cap on the amount patients with chronic and serious medical problems would have to pay out of pocket for prescription drugs as a way to reduce the effect of skyrocketing drug prices on consumers.
The cap is part of Clinton’s program to alter and expand the Affordable Care Act, the signature domestic policy achievement of President Obama, if she is elected to succeed him. Clinton will discuss the prescription drug plan Tuesday in Des Moines, Iowa. Some details were provided by her campaign in advance.
Clinton is calling her health-care ideas a way of refining the Affordable Care Act, the sprawling 2010 law that is reshaping parts of the U.S. health-care system. But her ideas would navigate the law into a realm of drug prices that its authors largely sidestepped.
Parts of Clinton’s proposal reprise ideas for controlling the cost of prescription drugs that Democrats have advocated for years and that have been the subject of heated debates on Capitol Hill.
Many congressional Democrats also have long contended that Medicare should be given power to negotiate directly the price of drugs that are sold to the older and disabled Americans insured through the program. This idea, too, was part of the political struggle over the law that created Medicare drug benefits. In the end, that law specifically banned the government from negotiating with pharmaceutical companies. When he first ran for the White House in 2008, President Obama said that he wanted to rescind that ban. But to avoid antagonizing the pharmaceutical industry, the idea of allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices was never seriously debated as part of Affordable Care Act.
Clinton’s campaign said her prescription drug plan would be modeled on state plans, such as those in California and Maine, that limit patient out-of-pocket costs. The campaign said Clinton would also seek to end a tax credit for direct-to-consumer drug advertising and allow Americans to import drugs from abroad.
Drug makers often argue that their prices reflect the need to recoup huge investments they pour into developing drugs, most of which fail. But at the same time, critics argue that the high prices of new drugs often bear little resemblance to their actual value. While some breakthroughs have offered huge benefits or even cures for a condition, others have produced only marginal benefits for patients, if any at all.
Pharmacy benefit manager Express Scripts released a study earlier this year that found more than a half million Americans have yearly prescription drug costs of $50,000.
This was of course tipped on Monday via Twitter and the reaction in Janet Yellen's "subtantially stretched" biotech space was one of the more notable events from yesterday's session. Here's what we said when Clinton's tweet hit:
So who is the most powerful woman in the world now?
Hillary Clinton tweets....
Price gouging like this in the specialty drug market is outrageous. Tomorrow I'll lay out a plan to take it on. -H https://t.co/9Z0Aw7aI6h
— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) September 21, 2015
And this happens?
So much for the flight to safety bid for Biotechs.
Yes, so much for that.
Here's a look at how the biotech ETF is trading pre-market:
We'll await the details of the former First Lady's plan which, as mentioned above, are due later today and in the meantime we would ask whether, when Clinton says that "nobody in America should have to choose between buying the medicine they need and paying rent," she intends to also do something about the following chart...

Bread and Circus my friends, Bread and Circus.
So Humpty Dumpty has enough funding?
Martin Shkreli - another despicable greedy Jew.
So Wall Street and The Foundation must be bringing in enough campaign funding that Humpty Dumpty doesn't have to worry about all the commitments made by Big Obutboy to Big Pharma/Big Biotech/Big Health Insurance/Big Healthcare? Fortunately, the returns on these political deals are so good that they still payback, even if the timescale of the corrupt support is getting shorter and shorter?
Even Rube Goldberg couldn't imagine and construct such a convoluted and corrupt apparatus as our current US medical delivery system. Tower of Babel, step aside.
Ahhhh, the government is here to help me again?
<grabs the Astroglide>
pods
Hillary Clinton proposes that everybody else pay for prescription drug costs in excess of $250.00 per month.
Would you like fries with that?
She never asks whether the person needs the drugs at all. The U.S. with 5% of the earht's population consumes 50% of the drugs.
Thats what pisses me off. The whole thing is a scam. My grandmother will be 99 in two months and she takes not a single drug and is proud of it. I do not take a single thing other than Ibuprofen and the occasional antacid. Why should I pay for these fucking morons whose doctors prescribe massively expensive drugs? On the other hand, truly efficacious drugs for sufferers of serious ailments may upset that calculus.
*Warning -- Socialism may cause difficulty in discovering price and impede the flow of necessary goods and services.
Many congressional Democrats also have long contended that Medicare should be given power to negotiate directly the price of drugs
But it wouldn't be (national) socialism without offering a hand up to the big guys.
.
Weh-heh-hell Mrs. Clinton, if you'd just show us all that cattle futures trick you pulled a while back, none of us would have to worry about our pharmacy bills, would we?
I can't help but wonder how she's going to reduce the cost of chemo drugs by 99.99%...
"Death Panels" anyone?
"My grandmother will be 99 in two months and she takes not a single drug and is proud of it. I do not take a single thing other than Ibuprofen and the occasional antacid. Why should I pay for these fucking morons whose doctors prescribe massively expensive drugs?"
Exactly and good for her.
5 percent of the US population accounts for 50 percent of all medical expenditures.
20 percent of the US population accounts for 80 percent of all medical expenditures.
Doctors push a pill for every damned thing, many with side effects that cause the doctor to prescribe more drugs to counteract. When I see old people on TV with a dozen or more pill bottles, it makes me think what suckers many of them are for trusting their doctor. None of them ever seem to wonder how so many of their ancestors lived for so long without a bazillion bottles of expensive prescription drugs.
I avoid prescription drugs like the plague. Too many cases of them later turning out to have side effects worse than what they were trying to cure.
Prescription CHEMICALS
Damned straight. My mom has lymphoma after several years of taking various new 'biologics' for her arthritis. No hx of ANY kind of cancer in the family...it came out of nowhere.
Right. It was CAUSED by the fucking drugs! It's one of the 180 different side-effects they rattle off during the commercials. So now she'll need chemo.
I also have arthritis. When I'm in pain, stiff, sore...I take a couple of Vicodin. Opiates are well-known, the side effects few and easy to deal with. I don't buy into the whole "But you'll get ADDICTED!" bullshit. If you are taking them for a REASON, it isn't called addiction, the proper term is dependence.
It's when you take them for NO reason, just for fun, than you become addicted. I will use them as long as they work, and take it from there. But I think I'll pass on the Humira, etc...
I have arthritis and I looked into those "biologics". Arthritis is an auto-immune disease where your body attacks itself because it thinks it is a threat from outside. These biologics work by lowering your immune system. They give you and kind of man-made AIDS that makers you more susceptible to infections and cancer. What a tradeoff! Also, these meds can cost $1500 a month.
Now I live in a country where Excedrin with Codeine is over the counter and cheaper than chewing gum. Works fine.
It pays to buy organic if you can. Pesticides and GMO are responsible for many diseases but they cover it up better then Big Tobacco covered up cancer-causing cigarettes for decades.
However, I wish Whole Paycheck did not charge $5 for one organic carrot. Why doesn't Hitlery suggest subsidizing the organic food industry or tackling Monsanto instead? Much more constructive.
Speaking of piss....
Worry not. You are getting you fair share of their drugs. It's the water now.
"The U.S. with 5% of the earht's population consumes 50% of the drugs."
We should share and ship most of these drugs overseas.
The invaders are not getting enough drugs.
They are everywhere, always ready to help. Considering that the government can't even deliver mail, let alone doing it efficiently, why would ANYONE think they can handle healthcare?
<decides to run as fast as possible, fearing government that made pods decide to grab Astroglide, running far as well>
Maybe at least i will pass out from exaustion and won't remember getting caught. But that means no Astroglide...hmmm i haven't considered the entire range of outcomes.
There's a whole lotta' money to be made there , or rather extracted/extorted from the dwindling productive class.
Oh, and H Clinton is evil All of them are evil.
"Pharmacy benefit manager Express Scripts released a study earlier this year that found more than a half million Americans have yearly prescription drug costs of $50,000."
In a word: chemo.
SPOILER ALERT: chemo is not a cure.
Oh please, get real...closed door meeting...Hillary and Big Pharma...
Hillary: "Look guys, I gotta slam ya..the public wants blood".
Pharma: "Yes, we understand"
Hillary: "Don't worry, when I'm President, I'll immediately back away from my "promises" and nothing will change".
Pharma: "Yes, we know how it works, thank you; and please accept this "contribution" as a show of our appreciation"
No, here's how it goes.*
Hillary: "Look guys, I gotta slam ya..the public wants blood".
Pharma: "Yes, we understand"
Hillary: "Don't worry, when I'm President, I'll immediately change the $250 limit per month to a $250 increase per month ".
Pharma: "Yes, we know how it works, thank you; and please accept this "contribution" as a show of our appreciation"
* What I initially thought she was proposing.
No, here's how it goes.*
Hillary: "Look guys, I gotta slam ya..the public wants blood".
Pharma: "Yes, we understand"
Hillary: "Don't worry, when I'm President, I'll immediately get the taxpayers to pay everything over the $250 limit per month so your companies can charge even more outrageous prices and the gov. will pay for it."
Pharma: "Yes, we know how it works, thank you; and please accept this "contribution" as a show of our appreciation"
Albanian, actually, but don't let the lack of 15 seconds of due diligence stop you.
Lol
There are Albanian Jews you know.
Although, it just says hes Albanian on WIKIPEDIA like your 20 seconds of DD revealed.
It is obvious that this maggot is a Jew based on his career path, this guy worked under Jim Cramer for fucks sake.
Add on his sneaky devious tactics throughout his career, his greedy looks and the below (not him but some Albanian Jew with the same sur name)
http://aawomq.org/2007/01/17/the-jewish-memoir-of-albania-january-17-2007/
Now that is more DD than your wikipedia lookup
Too much of a coincidence for me. He raises the price and then overnight Hillarity calls for caps on out of pocket expenses on prescription drugs.
Has anyone bothered to look into his political affiliations?
Or, did I forget to put my tinfoil hat back on?
Ding ding ding! Give this man the prize. He's figured out what 95% of these derps couldn't.
"Nothing in politics happens by accident." -- FDR
another great saying by FDR: "it takes a thief to catch a thief". iirc this was in reference to the esteemed Joseph Kennedy but it is applicable here.
Hidden in that thought is the reality that there really is no difference between the two, only the illusion of a distinction. No real difference between running a racket, or the vice squad sqeezing a racket. Counter terror is terror, and so on.

To everyone who downvoted you... SERIOUSLY? Martin Shkreli is one despicable bastard.

Standard Disclaimer: Patent trolls were bad enough, but pharma trolls?
I up voted you but down voted Obelisk who hates any human being that happens to be a practicing Jew or by heritage has Jewish ancestors. This is the same propaganda the Nazis used to deflect attention away from the actual masterminds of human misery. It is called "mind control". This is an automatic response to an intentionally preconditioned subconscious programming.
One could pick on just about any race, religion or national origin for mind programming as has been done for millennia. Why do you think gov. propagandists bring out the Hitler comparison when they want to destroy another head of State or invade another country. These kind of control mechanisms work to eliminate critical thinking.
Why do you think when the twin towers were hit and imploded the news media repeated the videos and personal stories so often. It wasn't because the viewers demanded it it was because their overseers demanded it all day all the time.It reinforced the justification to implement the next phase of destroying your rights government officials swear to uphold and protect. This is sedition by felony treason and the people remain docile to the slowly increased pressure of the boot on their necks.
I weep for those of you that buy into this crap as you will end up a victim too.
P.S. An Obelisk is the representation of the penis of Osiris.
Like it or not, these types of statements are what win elections. She just bought millions of senior votes.
Senile seniors. (FIFY)
Between big pharma and insurance companies... the inevitable result of such a poorly though out scheme is that seniors would eventually be allotted 1 aspirin per month, for which they would be bilked $250 out of pocket.
Hospitals already charge hundreds of dollars for a couple of asprin. Same as it ever was, but nationalized so the government gets the money rather than the private industries and medical providers. The people will see skyrocketing prices either way, but the government will eliminate competition to draw prices back down.
"She just bought millions of senior votes."
Exactly! Welfare bums (Medicare and Social Security are WELFARE) will always vote for more FREE CHEESE!
PS> GEEZERS...YOU ARE NOT OWED A FUCKEN THING...Yeah, yeah, you "paid in"...BULL SHIT...you also ELECTED people that STOLE THE MONEY YOU "PAID IN" and spent it elsewhere..TOUGH SHIT FOLKS!
Redistribution is the new Democratic Party theme. They are running out of government money to buy votes so now they go after the private sector. Where does it end?
"Redistribution is the new Democratic Party theme. "
WTF? Are you that dense? "Redistribution" comes in many forms and BOTH PARTIES love to "Redistribute".
It's when the "redistribution" doesn't directly benefit you that you're "against it"...haven't met a single RIGHTWINGNUT Geezer that has rejected Medicare...NOT FUCKEN ONE...
"... Geezer that has rejected Medicare...NOT FUCKEN ONE..."
It's illegal to reject Medicare, can't do it!
You can take my Medicare benefits and stuff them up your ass.
I don' need them nor do I want them.
Agreed. They deal nothing but death anyways. Get a bike and ride 20 miles a day, drink distilled water, get plenty of sleep, and eat organic foods. Once you realize their drugs and doctors bring nothing but death and destruction, you are free. I have nearly free medical and the only way I'd let those idiots touch me is if I broke my leg. I also have free cable, but you couldn't pay me to watch that mind control either.
It is illegal to reject Medicare if you belong to the State.
I'm wrestling with this right now. I pay for my own health insurance policy through my dwindling business. It would cost less to get more benefits if I sign on to Parts B, C, and D. and pay for it out of my private pocket. I use the medical system rarely and don't want to sign another agreement with the gov. I'm worried the medical police will arrive one day and demand, under force that I be vaccinated against a plague they created.
It all ends with 20 Syrian refugees living in one of your bedrooms, 20 Hispanic illegal immigrants living in another one of your bedrooms, and another 20 homeless living in your third bedroom while your family lives in the garage.
Its only fair cause you have more than they do and you should be willing to share, not only your life savings and 85% of your income, if you work, but also your home and all of your belongings.
Sounds like the early days of the USSR. Coincidentally Dr. Zhivago was on the TV last night and this is exactly what Dr. Z found when he returned home after ministering to the Soviet soldiers wounded in the revolution. His grand home had been taken over by the State and was occupied by the people, including the thought police.
I sense a disturbance in the force.
Another Subsidy.
Cackle.
Clinto plan seems implausible, unworkable, just a ploy to win "Everyday Americans" votes. Time to go long IBB again.
Bingo!
Clinton is only proposing a cap on what individuals must pay out of pocket. She says nothing about how much medicare and medicaid will pay on top of that out of pocket cap. Her plan would increase demand for expensive drugs by capping out of pocket patient costs while providing unlimited government money to the pharma companies. This is a huge bonanza to big pharma, disguised in a wrapper of populism.
..and how much would you like to wager that Rightwing geezers will support her 100%?
I have some pretty far Right folks in my family...and every last one of them IMMEDIATELY signed up for Medicare when they became eligible..a few of them are very wealthy..but "It ain't welfare if it benefits me; plus, I'm owed"....
And they will get exactly what they deserve.....
Within the first three minutes of opening, the Dow was doen over 200 points just now. The 3 talking heads at CNBC Squawkbox said at 9:30 AM that Hank Paulson would be on at 3:00PM. Hubba, hubba, the Wall Street thief deigns us with his presence. Then there was a brief discussion of Billary Clinton's plan to control drug costs. Mention was made of how in Europe prescription drug costs are cheaper. No mention at all that Canadian pharmacies can sell drugs at discounts of 90% or more compared to American drug prices. Nor of how pharma's accomplices in the FDA block hospitals from using imports from Canada. Typical for the Wall Street cheerleaders at CNBC.
That is all these fu.king liberals know how to do, give other peoples stuff away.
Never mind that we are spending more than we produce or that we should do something about it.
Just keep buying votes.
She is a scumbag.
"fu.king liberals"...geesh, are you that ignorant? NOBODY can give ANYTHING away without the APPROVAL OF CONGRESS!
Congress controls the purse...if something is "being given away"...it is because CONGRESS is "OK'ing" it.
You should be angry at who's running Congress..Not "fu.king liberals".
Your Dumbascity is what enables this bullshit.
Obama is not responsible FOR our deficits...he is responsible for SIGNING OFF on them...someone else, cough, Congress, did the deficit spending that Obama AGREED TO...who runs Congress?
"Bread and Circus my friends, Bread and Circus."
More like bread and water for Hillary.
Price fixing! What a great, original idea! What could go wrong?
Can't they just print up the $250 a month/person and make it free?
In the words of Hillary voter, Shaqueen Jamika, "lots of foks be not haven no twof-fitty a munth."
How about putting a cap on price-gouging by Big Pharma?
I wonder if Hitlery knows the rent money has already been spent on Obamacare premiums?
the rent is too damn high
As opposed to Obamacare premiums and deductibles.
I wonder if Huma thought this up for her since she had her cerebrovascular acccident. Drooping eyes and mouth. Has she even stopped using botox?
Ooh good, a price ceiling. What an innovative and forward thinking plan.
The drug cost will be capped, the tax hikes to pay for it won't.
There is nothing in life a government program can't make worse.
Hillary, who pays for the cost above the cap?
It's free, right? The government pays for it, and that money is just found money, no? What if I don't want to pay the 250, though? Can I just have it? It being whatever I might want??
My cocaine bill is about $6000 a month.
Righteous.
She will say anything at this point to increase her percentage.
Communist controls .... Great plan
Sure is lucky that Hillary doesn't have to choose between a $600 haircut and paying rent, or those NYC salons might be in trouble.
Free Meds for the Boomers.
Hillary is the smartest in the room. She just grabbed the votes from the 55+ crowd.
Haven't they received enough
Not mine. I'll die before I'll add my affirmative consent to evil. I'll also continue to take responsibility for my health through diet, exercise and other lifestyle choices.
I can see a lot of drugs simply not coming to market as a result of a price cap. That should help thin out the herd.
You've obviously checked your brain at the door. It's big pharma who is killing them right now. How did we ever survive before without big pharma to create a bunch of fake ailments to advertise on TV and drum up business? A sucker born every minute.
Ask yourself...if these drugs are so great, why do they need such protections to be marketed and sold?
We could lose 90% of our current pharmaceuticals and become a healthier, happier people.
Right, because the real cost of discovering, developing, and bringing a drug to market can be "capped"...
Hey all you scientists and engineers, get ready to work for free! The bankers adn financiers certainly won't be taking a pay cut...
A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have.
Thomas Jefferson
It's people who do ludicrous things like Martin Shkreli that make the free markets an easy target for criminals like Hitlary. His ability raise enough capital to make a start up and buy this drug is a sign of too much fiat flowing through the system.
And that's where they fool dupes like you. It isn't now and NEVER WAS a free market.
"In India, multiple combinations of this tablet are available for a price ranging from U.S. $0.05–$0.10 each (3–7 rupees)."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyrimethamine
This took me a whole 30 seconds of research. You idiots are being played like a violin. The whole thing is a setup.
Good find.
Got any contacts in India who will mail you pills?
I never claimed we had a free market . Maybe you should read my past comments before pretending to know where I stand. My point is that when any schmuck can get away with something as ludicrous as this then it makes it easy for people like Clinton to call for more regulation and get it.
Then you could of said that from the start but you didn't. Money isn't the problem, it's GOVERNMENT PROTECTED MONOPOLIES like big pharma. All the money in the world couldn't make people buy a 10 cent pill for 700 bucks. A 3 year old could figure out that this scumbag is on their payroll, and the whole thing was a setup for her from the beginning. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother.
We are in agreemanet about .gov and big pharma, and you've been around long enough to now my positions on markets. As far as this drug is concerned, this bastard is doing this in order to help Shrillary. As far as people paying $700 for a 10 cent pill, people will pay anything once their or their loved ones lives are on the line.
Sorry. Yeah I have been around for a long time. But if you think I know you and your positions from Adam you're mistaken. I don't even remember what I had for dinner last night. The point is that the left is ALWAYS getting away with these setups to blame on the free market, when what we have in this country is a GOVERNMENT PROTECTED MONOPOLY on medical care. Most of which doesn't even work! And if you try to practice an alternative to it, these government thugs will break down your door and arrest you. Ask any of the cancer doctors who've had to flee to Mexico to keep their practices.

Keep an eye on past and present clinton foundation pharma "donations"
But not yet, they are rewriting their books!

Martin Shkreli donated $2500 to "Friends of Hillary" in the 2006 cycle and to Clinton herself in 2007.
Ahh, we now see the connection. Can anyone spell collusion?
made his money as a wall street criminal. Break the criminal wall street he goes away...and get responsible drug companies. Not everyone is a wonton criminal
Let them eat vicodin!
they already do and that is why you have Obama
Go back to paying cash for healthcare and all this goes away.
The cure for socialism is..... more socialism!
Yes, the government did cause the problem. In a free market most pills would be pennies. Not that any of them really work. That's a whole 'nother scam.
I would consider the price gouging a god send as someone could easily undercut him with a generic. I see a lot of anti-market posts by dunces in this comment section who don't have their thinking caps on.
That was my reaction as well. Wouldnt raising the price of a 60 yr old drug %5500 just create an instant market for a generic?
The whole thing sounds like to me the campaign funding is down this month and hillary's financial buddies and lucky staffers got a a gift horse on some short biotech positions.
Out of pocket .. oh my lord!
More reason to allow more americans now to get obese and not have to worry about paying for their drugs..
until nanny (state) dies.
When offered a $750.00 pill at this time there is now way to opt-out. Pay or suffer.
Assisted Suicide would put an end to high drug costs.
“Give us $750.00 for the pill.”
‘Nope, bye.’
"We'll need to lower the maintenance cost of life."
A huge gravy train for the pharmaceutical companies. They can charge all they want and the taxpayer will pay for everything over $250 a month. Disgusting.
If they do it right they force the pharmaceutical companies to compete (remember that concept) with each other to get the governments business. You'd be surprised how much they'll discount to get 100% of the governments orders for a specific drug. Individuals can't negotiate with billion dollar companies - governments can. It is when you try to also give the welfare recipients "choice" of supplier that it comes unstuck. Buy it yourself for full price from whomever you like or accept the one provided by the subsidized health system (if you qualify) has worked for deades here.
Someone should "Cap" her ass.
Depressed enough already.
Don't need months of National Mourning and Kennedyesque 'what might have been'.
Letting her fester in her own sewage is Karma enough.
so this will be funded by making birth control have a copay again, right?
because that's a convenience med 99% of the time, as in you won't die without it.
tell that to diabetes patients paying copay for insulin.
Uh huh. I'm sure the costs won't be transferred to premiums. The drug companies will simply eat the lost revenue out of the goodness of their hearts.
That fucker Shkrelli goes on the list.
You idiots are being played like a violin. The whole thing is a setup.
Afraid I am not being played. I live in a place where I will never have to worry about who will pay for a $750 pill sold by a parasite.
That's a convenient dodge of the issue. Do you live in a place where there's socialized medicine? Or someplace where there's an actual free market not controlled by a marriage of big pharma and big government? The fact that you didn't realize that the timing of that hedge fund scumbag doing what he did was a setup by Hitlery from the git go is proof that you have been played like a fiddle.
There is a HUGE difference between saying something and doing something. Hillary knows the sheeple eat this talk up. Big Money knows she worships the all mighty dollar more than anything. She will get in and the status quo will continue.
"If he declares he has none, then we will know that Saddam Hussein is once again misleading the world."
Your health system is crazy broken. How is it even possible for this guy to try this stunt with an out-of-patent generic that can no doubt be supplied from India or China for peanuts ?
Our pensioners and welfare recipients get subsidized prescription medicine via single-buyer (.gov) and it is capped for them at like $12.50 per prescription or something similar. Your pharmaceutical companies have been trying for years to break the system but the government just tells them how much they think is reasonable and are prepared to pay and if they don't like it then no sale. Seems to work well ... given it is an all or nothing proposition they usually come to the table and we all know they continue to post profits so they aren't running loss-leaders or any of those shenanigans. We don't go without any of the latest available solutions as far as I know.
Notice this cunt said rent and not morgage payent when she was talking about choosing. Typical leberal scum.
Create the problem then offer the solution; pick up votes and improve your political position. What a political hoe!
that fat cunt would promise 2 free kidneys for everyone if she thought it would get her elected
Simply put, it's immoral to profit from the care of sick people
Same way it is immoral to profit from growing and selling food, right dumb fuck?
Food prices are not artificially inflated by "patents" enforced by governments. Those pills cost $2.50 to make. I'd say it is immoral to let someone die because they can't afford the 5000% profit you demand when if the government either stepped aside or did the right thing the drug would be readily available for $3
BTW your point would have been better made without the ad hominen insult tacked on the end. You clearly haven't thought it through yourself.
Foods like corn do have patents on the seeds, genetic varities, as they're called. Same goes for wheat, oats, etc.
http://www.wired.com/2013/05/scotus-self-replicating-patents/
Farmers are contractually obligated to continue buying the seeds once they start.
Don't believe me just search on Seed Patents.
"I'd say it is immoral to let someone die because they can't afford the 5000% profit you demand..."
Am I also letting someone die because I'm not paying enough into medicaire to afford it? Get out of here with that social contract garbage.
No, there can be no free market when one party is severly disadvantaged, you know like when you are in a coma. It's also like monopoly pricing, another example of no free market.
And, yes, before you go there, I'm a health care socialist, health care is a basic universal human value. It belongs in the public commons like your library, fire dept., etc.
Wow, a basic universal human value?
Nobody has a right to anything. For the state to provide someone with a universal service they first have to extort someone else or a large group of someone elses' to pay for it.
If someone is unable to pay does that entitle them to millions and millions of dollars worth of medical care?
Do I have the right to come over and steal your belongings and sell them to pay for my medical care? If not then why does the state grant itself the right to steal my income to pay for someone else's medical care?
And, in a medical world of finite resources, number of doctors, nurses, hospitals, etc., is there a CAP the government places on the amount they're willing to expend on one single individual?
If this is true is the government willing to spend unlimited resources and money on the old and infirmed to keep them alive for one....two...five years if they have a life ending disease?
The answer in all socialized medicine is a big fat NO!
Sir, the "commons" mean that which was created by God for all of us, like water (Nestle) and Air (Carbon Tax)
Fire Department can be privatized so we don't have to pay for their outrageous pensions and retiring at 50. There is nothing that the market cannot support that the government hasn't already monopolized...away from the market.
It is not immoral to profit from selling food. Unless you are selling it to starving people.
And you know damned WELL there is a difference.
Wrong again. Let the market decide. Plenty of businesses and households have excess food they are willing to donate via private charity or at a discount rate.
Wrong. I do not allow "the market", whatever that IS, to decide my morality.
What about hungry people?
What about thirsty people?
What about cold and wet people?
What about uneducated people?
What about an army that fight wars for cooperations? Oh wait....
What about ugly people?
What about fat people?
What about short people?
What about people that ride around in Lil' Rascals?
What about ZH members?
Well said HH.
Big job ahead.
Can we appoach this in any other way than other that what our elites present?
Hegelian bullshit.
You shouldn't be profiting off ANY of those people. You profit off of people's WANTS, not their NEEDS.
Go ahead and downvote me, call me socialist, whatever. But we are either a moral species, or we are not. Personally, I don't give a rat's ASS what consider ourselves to be.
But if we are NOT, then we need to own that, and stop selectively picking and choosing who is required to behave morally, and who is exempt.
If there is no moral hazard in profiting off of the sick, the hungry, the destitute...then there is no moral hazard in defaulting on debt, cheating on your taxes, or hacking into a big banks computers and stealing their money.
We have to choose a position and stand by it. Morality is not like the Chinese buffet, where you take a plate, and personalize it. It's like dinner at Mom's house, where you eat what you are given and clean your plate. Even the Brussell's sprouts.
You need to spend more time at Mises Univ my friend.
Why does food have a price then? Shouldn't government mandate all food be free since it is a daily necessity? Why do we pay for municipal water? Government making a break-even profit there providing a DAILY NECESSITY, with a daily injection of fluoride and chlorine. I think we should abolish all of the above subsidies for food and water in this country and the real price will return. Farming will still be profitable, water distribution might finally got a freemarket chance (culligan man delivery trucks?).
Government is the Problem here, not the market.
The Billary protection racket rolls on...how much can she now extract from Big Pharma???
... and that is all it is. Zombie capitalism and the loss of creative destruction. Roll on big Pharm!
A 62 year old patent on a medication. There surely are generics that provide the same results. In a free market, when someone tries to sell a penny for a thousand dollars........someone sells it at the correct price. The sharlatan ends up with nothing.
I don't think that drug is under patent, I believe the problem is that it is a rare drug. This guy bought it and is making it very hard to get hold of.
I read that other manufacturers are having difficulty getting the formula to make their own versions.
Who knows WHAT "truth" is anymore though...
Doesnt change the dynamic at all. An enterprising indian generic company can buy a little of his stuff to reengineer it and start selling it for pennies on the dollar.
Campaign promises, Hitlery has always been in the pocket of the Pharmaceutical Industry. Same with the Financial Industry, she would not talk about either of them except for E. Warren/Sanders making her.
Corporatism
She gets in, she won't do it. That's one fact you can count on.
Events will conspire against her, like the Right-Wing Conspiracy she's always lamenting about.
Either that or hubby will get caught having sex with pigs.
to late on the pigs, the british already busted that taboo yesterday if i recollect
The Democrats idea of "controlling the price of drugs" means that they have to manipulate the source of the payment, not what's actually paid to the manufacturers. Remember, where the Democrats are concerned, it's "follow the Marxist guidelines". Because they only call themselves Democrats. They're not anymore, they only used to be. As far as the Republicans are concerned, they just keep pretending that people have the money to pay for this stuff, and focus on mundane things like war.
ANYTHING Clintin CUNT says is bogus! $250/mo CAP? So, it starts over at the 1st of the month? DON'T BELIEVE BILL DIDN'T PLANT THIS IDEA!
So, patients try to game it by getting a 90-day supply? Then, THEY BAN MORE THAN A 30-DAY SUPPLY!
THIS CLINTIN NIGHTMARE is a lying m-fker corporate queen
