US Drones Responsible For More Civilian Deaths in Yemen than Al Qaeda

According to a U.N. report published last week, U.S. drone strikes have killed roughly 40 Yemeni civilians in the past year. The figure is 60% greater than the number of civilians killed by al Qaeda in that same period. al Qaeda is reportedly responsible for 24 civilian deaths.
The government’s ongoing drone strikes in Yemen are little-known to the general American public. Many Americans still believe the U.S. military is only involved in Iraq and Afghanistan. In reality, the military is running offensive operations in Libya, Somalia, Pakistan, Yemen, Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries in the region.
The data comes from the U.N.’s Office of the High Commissioner For Human Rights (OHCHR), which compiled statistics stretching from July 1, 2014 to June 30 of 2015.
According to the report, “OHCHR received reliable information indicating that as many as 40 civilians, including a child, may have been killed during the period under review as a result of drone attacks in Al-Baida, Al-Jawf, Marib and Shabwah.”
Journalist Chris Woods of Airwars told VICE News he believes many of the U.S. attacks are indiscriminate and have a high risk of civilian casualties.
“The drone ops we tend to see in places like Yemen, I am absolutely sure they are using a different rule book because they are counter-terrorism targets and they’re deemed to be higher value targets. That places civilians at greater risk on the ground. We see more civilians killed when it’s counter-terrorism ops because the targets are deemed as a threat to the US homeland and, therefore, there’s a greater tolerance of collateral damage,” Woods said.
“The UN numbers are deeply worrying. Time and again we find that civilian casualties on the ground are completely counterproductive to America’s long-term strategic interests in the region,” he added.
Sadly, the death toll on record could actually be far lower than the actual kill count due to the fact that many civilians are classified as militant when they are reported.
Whenever the corporate media releases a story about drone attacks, they typically use the word “militant” to describe the victims. This label implies the victims are not civilians or are somehow involved in terrorism or violent military activities.
This is a deception.
In 2013, the Obama administration redefined “militant” to mean “military-aged male.” This way, nearly any male murdered by drone strike is considered a violent enemy — at least in the eyes of the general population.
This is just another tactic in a powerful propaganda campaign that shields the American people from the harsh realities of war and perpetual imperialism.
Considering the power of establishment language and the media’s willingness to perpetuate it, it is even possible this Orwellian-speak has affected the reported statistics regarding civilian deaths, though such a possibility was not specifically noted in the report.

Well the meme here on ZH is that Putin is in bed with the bankers and sharing reach-around with Bibi. Basically, he's just another player reading his lines, playing his part. Playing footsie with Bibi in Syria will do nothing to allay questions of Putins real purpose and goals, not only in Russia and Eurasia, but globally.
Furthermore, such proximity with any appearance of deference to Israel or attenuation of force to Israels favor calls to question the veracity and foundation of the image Putin has worked so hard to convey at home and abroad. In short, Putin has much to lose in Syria.
Bibi's rep is permanently shit, so he doesn't even waste the time or energy on it.
The other side of that coin is NOT that Putin is a good guy. One does not become the leader of a country, and certainly not Russia, by being a "good guy". I subscribe to the notion that most if not all successful politicians are merely unconvicted felons.
Certainly, I don't think the Russians themselves are fooled with any westernized good guy image, but a good guy in Russia I suspect means a lesser degree of bad guy (not the necessarily same as lesser of two weevils either) or more specifically, essentially the image that Putin tries to maintain - the one that does what he does for the sake of the Rodina.

The parasites I was referring to were more of south-of-the-border types. However, it is not such a leap to see how the War on Drugs, Fast & Furious, the Welfare State, Diversity (spit) and No-Fault Lifestyles have also destroyed countries and created a kind of mercenary of a more insidious nature.

I think you put too much weight on the personal projections here. If the gas line is built through Syria, Putin's position, and the position of all Russian rulers, is so greatly weakend that the Rothschild tentacles will strangle any strong leader of Russia. That hasn't happened yet. As in any leadership role the leader requires consent, but Putin (and most Russian's) know that consent comes through being strong, and weaking Russian by allowing the pipline built through syria is the absolute worst potential outcome outside of assassination for Putin, and perhaps even greater than assassination, as he appears to be a true patriot to the Russians.

Titus, I don't disagree. I don't always articulate my thoughts well. I was suggesting strongly that IF Putin is indeed "to be a true patriot to the Russians" then yes, Israel has much to fret over in Syria. Actions by Russia in cleaning up the mess the US has made in Syria (and the ME in general) that bear out effectively telling Bibi to "deal with it pal" will strengthen that fact and garner more support outside of Russia than he already has.
Curiously, aside from Hezbollah taking Israel head on, none of the other terrorist belligerents in the region have done anything at all, to my knowledge, offensively against Israel. Given Israels propensity to be where it is uninvited and unwelcome, any lack of collateral damage to Israeli operatives or material in the Syrian theater or the airspace overhead would be very suspicious indeed.

The perception of Putin as a relative good guy in a political arena rife with zio-con thugs and sycophants is the closest the world has come, in recent history, to being the remotest catalyst of change in the status quo.
