Days Of Rage Are Coming

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Charles Hugh-Smith of OfTwoMinds blog,

The resistance will take the form of subverting the signifiers of wealth that exemplify the few who have benefited so greatly while everyone else lost ground.

It's time to trade in your Jag, Mercedes, BMW (and maybe your Prius, Volvo, Lexus, etc.) before the Days of Rage start. As I've explained before ( As the "Prosperity" Tide Recedes, the Ugly Reality of Wealth Inequality Is Exposed), the rage of the masses who have been losing ground while the Financier Oligarchs, the New Nobility and the technocrat class reap immense gains for decades has been suppressed by the dream that they too could join the Upper Caste.

But once the realistic odds of that happening (low) sink in, the Days of Rage will begin. For those still who don't know the facts of rising inequality, here's what you need to know.

The top 1% skim 23% of all income:

While the top 5% has enjoyed substantial income gains over the past 45 years, adjusted for inflation, the bottom 90% have lost ground:

The last time there was mass unrest in America was the civil rights/Vietnam War era. The power of the civil rights movement arose from the core injustice of segregation (separate and unequal) and institutionalized racism/bias. This institutionalized injustice drew people from all classes and ethnicities into the streets, where they were promptly beaten by police.

The anti-war's Days of Rage drew from a different well of unrest. In effect, the college-age offspring of the great American middle class had decided that sacrificing their lives for the Domino Theory/defense of previous incalculably stupid Imperial decisions made no sense.

But when they made their doubts known, the Powers That Be's response shocked them: we don't care what you think, you're going to fight our war, no questions asked. The middle class is more than an income bracket; it's a mindset of entitlements, one of which is that the middle class's opinions matter.

Surprise, middle class America--the Power Elites could care less what you think. If the Empire needs your sons for an insane war, deliver them to Caesar, and we'll ship them home in body bags, or alive but hooked on smack, whatever--the individual consequences don't count.

Seeing middle class kids destined for successful careers in the Establishment being beaten, shot down and arrested as if they were rabble laid the Imperial Project bare and disabused people of their naive faith that the Power Elites cared what they thought.

We are approaching another moment in history that disabuses what's left of the middle class of their fantasy that they matter. The poor don't harbor such entitlements; they know all the high-minded promises are shuck and jive. They have fewer illusions to crush.

The heavily-militarized police and the central bureaucracies of repression would love to confront an unarmed mob of middle class kids. It would be child's play to teargas them, beat them, and trundle them off in mass arrests.

But this time around, people have gotten wise to the militarized brutality. The Occupy Wall Street movement taught us all a powerful lesson: if you assemble 500 people in a symbolically important place like Wall Street, the Power Elites will assemble 1,000 cops/F.B.I. agents et al. to crush you.

So the resistance will take the form of subverting the signifiers of wealth (when nobody's looking) that exemplify the few who have benefited so greatly while everyone else lost ground. For example:

If you want to retain your signifier of wealth/success, you'd be better off turning it into an art car:

Alternatively, you can cover it with adverts (Eat at Joe's). People will assume it's a company car and you're just the schmoe hired to drive it.

But by far the safest strategy is to dump the Jag, Benz, etc. and acquire a well-worn econobox vehicle with some rust spots and dents, a car that won't attract any notice in a sea of other old vehicles driven by people clinging to the dignity of personal transport.

If you really want a new car, then buy a working-class hero car, i.e. a new American Muscle car: a Mustang, a Camero, a Challenger. But for goodness sakes, don't dress like a tech-bro or a financier.

Actually, I would revise and say that until the masses recognize that most wars are started for financial reasons, and financiers set the table, we'll repeat the pattern.

I am finishing up a business plan for the next big thing in franchise fast food.

It's to be called “Gruel To Go” and will feature soon-to- be-popular affordable varieties of spiced hardtack and gruel.

It's geared toward the 99% as it is all they will be able to afford soon.

I am especially excited about the asparagus flavored hardtack I am calling “Soylent Green” .. Catchy, huh?

As a certain Windy City Ballerina Fuehrer once remarked "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste".

I also toyed around with the name “Goodbye, Gruel World”, but I figured it might have a bit of a negative connotation, although it might work for a mortuary franchise in a couple years or so.

You're on the right track but, and I hesitate to say this, you may have missed an opportunity to cash in on the very real human need to feel special, unique, set apart from the crowd even when shown to be exactly like the rest of the herd.

Yes Nixon abandoned the Gold Standard which allowed for this.

And today Bix Weir sent out an email REPORTING that Jack Lew, US Secretary of the Treasury, is ABANDONING THE PRODUCTION OF THE US SILVER EAGLES...ILLEGALLY OF COURSE.

We are in a World of Hurt and it just promses to degenerate into chaos and FURTHER ANARCHY.

We are living in ANARCHIC RULE presently if you have not figured that out...all of you "anarchocapitalists"...THERE IS NO RULE OF LAW.

How is anarchy working out for you? It is not working out for me at all....because of the corrupt like Jack Lew.

While you guys have a beautiful and wonderful ideal...AND YOU DO...I like freedom and liberty and advocate that...and 80% of the people are basically HONEST and not any threat but are cooperative and will deal on the level...

The FLAW in anarchocapitalism is that the 1% of the population which are FUCKING PSYCHOPATHS will use the lack of the Rule of Law to abuse and fuck over the rest of the 99%.

Damn I wish the was a solution to the Human Condition. But there is not. Damn it.

Take good care of yourselves good people. You know who you are.

You demonstrate that there is currently a Rule of Law, downvoters.

Show me that Corzine, Dimon, and others, including our Glorious Leaders, have gone to prison and were punished for perpetrating the frauds.

Good luck. There is not.

Where there is no Rule of Law there is anarchy.

It does NOT WORK.

(Well IF ONLY we could get rid of the psychopaths...it would.)

But we cannot rid ourselves of the psychopaths and that is just a denial of the REALITY.

You can immerse yourselves in the idealism if you choose.

You can dream about it if you choose to dream your life away.

As for me I will have to be a REALIST and DEAL WITH THIS SHIT. I cannot afford the luxury of IDEALISM.

And all of the downarrows in the World will not change that reality.

So sorry for disturbing your dream away and waking you up.

Enjoy some "Cars"..."Just A Dream Away."

This has nothing to do with anarchy and the more you buffoons who think this is put those people in bed with each other with your fantasy garbage of "we need more regulation on these unregulated industries", the worse this will get.

There is an extremely harsh rule of law that applies and is applied to, with extreme prejudice, the man on the street or the guy driving a 30 year old car/  The wolf bares his fangs to the population............the goal being intimidation;  the local police are now the street enforcers (read shaved head thugs) of the international bankster cartel.  I worry not though...it all can be swept aside in one day.

If I understand your rant....

An = without, Archy = Government, rulers.

This is nether Anarchy, nor AnCap. Anarchy would be a step up from the current Fascist Kakistocracy Shitshow

"The FLAW in anarchocapitalism is that the 1% of the population which are FUCKING PSYCHOPATHS will use the lack of the Rule of Law to abuse and fuck over the rest of the 99%."

IOW, they will do exactly what they are doing now, in the presence of government. What other line of work would appeal more to pschopaths than a business with a monopoly on the initiation of force, and the right to order everybody around, based on the outcome of that religious activity, known as VOTING? You can keep your Church of the Holy Ballot Box, and Divine Right of the Majority, and continue to hope that with the right people in power, things will get better.

Finally, if the worst possible outcome that you can imagine, from an experiment with AnCap, is that we end right back were we are now, I have but one question.

When do we get started?

listen, please.  most, nearly all, ways of striking back at the power elite seem impossible.  really, run them through your head.  one way is not impossible.  it is even likely to succeed because it uses the most flamboyant, ridiculous, wildly evil act the powers that be have ever engaged in.  if you saw it in a movie or read it in a book you would laugh and say no one would ever try that because no one would believe it.

but they did and they (increasingly fewer) did: 9-11.

think about it. first there is provable truth of inexpressible evil done to innocent u.s. citizens by their rulers.  second, even greater evil (if not in the eyes of u.s. citizens, then for the world at large) was its motive (initially two wars of choice and now more than we know). it still kills innocents each day that passes, fourteen years later, with no chance of stopping, except for hanging 9-11 around the necks of those who actually did it: cheney, rumsfeld, bush, silverstein, the cia, the mossad, the project for a new american century (look it up), etc.  not some saudis who couldn't fly jumbo jets and of whom half a dozen were still alive months and years later.  the cover story is profoundly unbelievable.

even the powers that be could not live this down, once the crowd truly shouts that the emperor has no clothes. it is the litmus test that so many will fail.  it ain't no vietnam.  no one can come up with a reason that it was for a good cause, a necessary sacrifice.  it was for fascism, greater israel and the military industrial complex.

we are actually incredibly lucky (like nixon taping himself, again not movie believable).  the psychopaths in charge (now) have given us a great gift: a way to truly defeat them.  many (obama) will claim innocence (out of the loop).  they will not be believed.

learn and change minds. it takes no money, it takes no weapons, it isn't even against the law, yet:

The Agriculture Department said Tuesday that it will stop providing benefits at the beginning of October if Congress does not pass legislation to keep government agencies open.

USDA on Friday sent a letter to states asking them to hold off "until further notice" on starting the process that distributes benefits at the first of the month.

The Agriculture Department declined to give details on why the automatic funding would not continue. In the 2013 government shutdown, food stamp dollars were not affected.

Even if it were different (from the previous times in the US), look at what happened in other countries when TSHTF.

This article is a revenge porn fantasy.

The reality is people need to eat, and people with something to protect will hire big people who need to eat, and those big people will literally eat the uppity little people if need be.

For every one member of the elite who loses a car or gets a bloody nose, how many kids of the 90% are going to be pulled into dark rooms and returned to their parents such that an open casket funeral is not an option?

Other than the fact 'Murican niggers have been dumbed down to the point that they actually think "black lives matter"... Nothing is different this time, including the actual danger to odd person who might be mistaken for a member of elite.

I dont think it's dumbed down to the point that black lives matter, I think it's dumbed down enough to think the Democrat party actually aren't a bunch of racist eugenicists that want to keep blacks in perpetual poverty and their numbers low enough only to affect election outcomes for the left (of course).

Since black people just havent caught on to this democrat scam, they've fallen back on black lives matter.

Those engines are bullet proof. I had a grand Cherokee in high school and college. Lifted, bigger tires, and I did very thing possible that would destroy a vehicle and that thing kept going, the engine and tranny anyway. Drove it through water over the good one too many times and fried the PCM, but that thing sure took a beating. Had over 260k on that thing, original power train, when I got rid of it

Straight sixes kick ass in general.  Broad torque curve, and they are naturally balanced.  The problem is, they don't fit into small engine compartments as well if you're trying to make the vehicle aerodynamic.

Yup, but they do have their maintainance quirks.  Once you learn those, those things can last for 500k miles.  If you actually four wheel it, watch out for that passenger side engine mount, as it can sheer off the bolts in the engine bosses if it goes out, and 2001 had some casting flaws in the head.  At least the engine mount is easy and cheap ro replace if you know it is going out.

No, plenty of "room to move" in Brazil.  Places where the "fall" in the standard of living is greater AND where there is no room to run will see much greater destruction, think Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis, Cleveland, New York, L.A. etc.  Remember there is no SNAP program in Brazil, most people have been living hand-to-mouth there already.

What the fuck do you think happens when the SNAP card won't buy you shit in America because the producers say "fuck it, we can't produce, let alone profit from accepting SNAP!!!"  Already there IMO.
