Watch The Latest Russian War Preparations In Syria: Satellite Imagery Update

Tyler Durden's picture

Over the course of the last several weeks, Europe’s worsening migrant crisis and Russia’s stepped up military support for Bashar al-Assad’s forces at Latakia have conspired to wake the entire world up to Syria’s protracted civil war.

The interesting thing about Russia’s involvement is the extent to which Moscow’s approach to the conflict differs from The Kremlin’s handling of the crisis in Ukraine.

Whereas Putin has steadfastly refused to admit the scope of Russia’s support for the separatists at Donetsk, he’s made no secret of Moscow’s intentions in Syria.

Note the extent to which that assessment differs from Washington’s official line. While the US insists (loudly) that it cannot discern what Russia’s intentions in Syria are, The Kremlin has been remarkably (and uncharacteristically) clear. Put simply, Russia intends to bolster the army of its ally Bashar al-Assad against any and all anti-regime elements operating inside Syria and because some of those anti-regime elements happen to be extremists, Russia is effectively waging a war on terror by default. No mystery there.

However, because the US needs to buy time to figure out the best way to navigate an impossibly complex situation whereby Washington will either need to join its two fiercest foreign policy critics (Russia and Iran) in destroying Syrian rebels that in some cases were trained and supported by the Pentagon or else stand aside as the Russians do in a matter of months what the US air force has failed to achieve over the course of more than a year, The White House pretends to be completely confused about Putin’s intentions. This charade has piqued the public’s interest in Russia’s “mysterious” military buildup.

Having said all of that, one should of course approach any and all "evidence" of Russia's maneuvers with an appropriate amount of skepticism because, as we noted earlier this month, things like satellite images purporting to show just what Russia is doing and where in Syria "are the modern equivalent of Colin Powell's vial of WMDs presented to the United Nations in 2003 to justify the war with Iraq."

It's with all of the above in mind that we present the latest images that allegedly show the extent to which Russia is preparing for war from Bashar al-Assad's seaside stronghold.

I knew a doofus who loved that dumb movie.  I remember that the whole movie was pretty ghey.  The lead characters Kelly and Tom are ghey.  She had a really bad thing happen to her when she was younger and I could see why she does not trust men.

The whole movie was like Grease with F-14s.  It made West Side Story look macho.

Sorry but the US is having to send its only carrier anywhere near the Mid East home in a couple of weeks and it will not be replaced for a couple of months due to lack of ships. So the modern day Maverick and Goose in their Hornets will have just gone home.

Still the USAF is doing all the flying now, just a shame about their targeting instructions.

But seriously, as only the Russians and Syrians seem to have the legal authority issued by the Sovereign Government of Syria to be flying over Syria, all planes of other countries are at risk. Especially if they do something stupid.

How US Made and Grew ISIS

The Bush-Obama tag team actively if unintentionally created the conditions for the rise of ISIS in Syria, Iraq and Libya
It has been too much, rather than too little, intervention and violence by the US that has led to ISIS

http://russia-insider.com/en/politics/how-us-made-and-grew-isis/ri9942

Russia Checks Western Lies on Syria

Such as the lie of being genuinely interested in the defeat of ISIS and Al Qaeda, or that Assad is the cause of the European migrant crisis

http://russia-insider.com/en/politics/russia-checks-western-lies-syria/r...

I'm sure the Russians expect fuckery in Chechnya and Dagestan as well as more Islamist and Xe mercs in Novorussiya.

http://rightweb.irc-online.org/profile/American_Committee_for_Peace_in_C...

Few here probably know or recall the curious passion a handful of Zionist Jews {people who were in PNAC, JINSA, AIPAc} became suddenly concerned with "peace" in chechnya.

there is little doubt in some circles that these people helped foment terrorism {and of course it appears the Russians false flagged a couple buildings themselves)

There is no left or right, no Christian or pagan -

there is only evil warmongering cunt and those determined to stop them.

Really, there's no end of pundits pontificating on what Russia's foreign policy should be. IMO, they very neatly avoided a trap set for them in Ukraine while carefully laying their own trap in Syria - a trap which has now snapped shut.

Russia's not going to be at full strength militarily until 2018 at the earliest. They're playing their cards accordingly, despite all the efforts on the part of the Anglo world to suck them in prematurely. The Russians aren't stupid but they won't be slow to counter anti-Russian aggression once they're satisfied all branches of the military are at full strength.

From the article:

Russia intends to bolster the army of its ally Bashar al-Assad against any and all anti-regime elements operating inside Syria and because some of those anti-regime elements happen to be extremists, Russia is effectively waging a war on terror by default. No mystery there.

There is no basis for that claim.  Putin has not even delivered the S-300 missile systems that Syria and Iran contracted for back in 2007.  Despite all the previous articles claiming Iran was about to get them - they have never been provided to Iran.

Back on Sept 3rd the articles such as this claimed Russia was landing a full expeditionary force in just days.  That has been proved to be false.

There have always been a few planes and helicopters in Syria.  Notice they are still close to the Russian naval port.  That is all.  They have never flown a mission.  Unarmed drones may have flown but that is all.

Putin hosted the leaders of the insurgents as his honored guests in Russia in an attempt to negotiate an agreement of how post Assad Syria will be structured.  Putin just wants to keep the port and attempt to get part of Syria beyond that.

When the S-300 is delivered to Assad then you know Russia/Putin is finally giving some real support.

And one suspects that the Russians have indeed provided the Iranians with quite a bit of anti-aircraft capability.

Yeah, I know - it wasn't in Debkafile so it must not be true, but it is certainly in Russia's interests to make the attack on Iran costly for Israel and the Zionist Occupied American Regime.

Neither Syria nor Iran has the S-300.  If they did they would be parading it as a threat.  Satelite photos would be available showing them being moved.  Syria would have been using them.  The edges of the capital of Syria has been bombed recently.  Syria's northern outposts have been bombed and continue to be bombed at times.

Always, Putin is going to, may do, could do, but has not done.

Iraq1, Iraq2, Serbia, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Yemen, E Ukraine No action from Russia/Putin.  Russia has even voted FOR sanctions against many of these countries and agreed to no fly zones on some as well.  Russia agreed to the sanctions against Iran.  At the time Iran's leader said Russia was making itself the enemy of Iran.

Russia/Putin forced some of these countries to chemical weapons (thus making them easier victims) as wished by the west - and then provided no protection.

Even the ethic russians in EUke have not been provided anything close to the S-300.  Nothing.  And that is out of concern about the WUke army not NATO and the west.

They have been promised these things since 2007 and even had a signed contract with Russia for them to be delivered.  They are not there.  If Putin wanted to deliver them they could have been there 3 yrs ago before all this destruction.  Russia and later Putin refused to honor their contract.

Always tomorrow, always going to do something, but never does anything.  Syria is largely destroyed already, while Putin allowed it to happen.  Putin does not want to save Syria or Assad he wants part of Syria for the Russian elite and to keep the naval port.

That's an overly simplistic, and incorrect analysis... there are lawyers, bankers and the Russian MIC on the dance floor.

Selling a limited quantity of (out)dated arms to a cash poor regimes under international sanctions creates impediments to coalition building, when far more can be achieved with far more sophisticated weapons by using the Russian military.  Moreover, as exemplified by the Saudi military's relatively ineffectual use of American arms in Yemen, if you want to push product and book sales, it helps to make to a good impression with prospective buyers (who don't have active embargo issues)...

The Radical Muslim forces in Chechnya are dead and so are all their families. The last Chechen war should give us some idea of what is going to happen in Syria. The Second Chechen war was notable for two things.

First the use of heavy weapons by the Russians in Chechnya were employed in a similar way to their use in the latter part of the Second World War. The number of people killed in Grozny is estimated at  100,000 at least, this was over a few weeks of combat.

Secondly was the use of local forces to exterminate opponents and their clans and kin. This has worked extremely well in Chechnya with the remnants of the radical Muslims either fleeing to the Middle East or hiding in hills being hunted down by the Chechen President's death squad.

I think you make an excellent point here. Turkey wil be the next flashpoint, and when that happens the really serious stuff will break out.

The Dardanelles and the Bosphorus are more important to Russia than Tartus. In the Crimean War the British and French threw everything into making sure the Russians didn't get control of these straits, their only warm-water access to the Med. The Great Game is alive and well, and the same powers are involved, except that Britain and France are no longer powers.

Apparently France has now sold the two Mistrals to Egypt. Don't be surprised if Sisi sells them on to Russia, on favourable terms. Having those two ships in the Black Sea would allow Russia to boss that most strategic of areas. What we are seeing now is the Western powers doing everything in their power to deny Russia - and Germany - a place at the table in the big boys' club, but Russia isn't going to accept second-class status any longer.

Interesting times ahead. My money is on Russia. The Western powers are all bark and no bite; the Russians do very little barking. You can guess the rest.

Then they have a child and ergo, their 'human rights' entitle them to a family life.  In Europe of course.  That's what happens.

Well, the Crimea thing was more about ethnic Russians living in Ukraine.  I have a Ukrainian/Russian husband and wife living across the hall and we are friends because my wife is Russian.  It was no accident that they wanted to live by us.  I get to hear some interesting perspectives and the Ukrainian/Russians identify themselves as Russians and not Ukrainian.  I was asked why the U.S cares about Ukraine.  I said because we are a bunch of self-righteous assholes who can't mind their own business and like shoving dollars down people's throats whether they want them or not.  If you won't take our dollars we will blow the fuck out of your country or wage economic manipulation of currencies or both because the only way prop this piece of shit economic system running is to steal and it is no different in Russia.  They were surprised by my answer but I think pleasantly so.  Not all Mericans are stupid.

When the wife first came she was very suspicious of me and the whole situation here.  Obviously she had been told some bullshit too over there but now she is very friendly with me even though she struggles with English.  That is OK because I know a few Russian words.  Her husband is always borrowing my tools and that is OK too.  Most of the time my tools are just sitting in the garage anyway.  He makes more money than I do but they are always broke because they are trying to get their 14 year old daughter here and have racked up enormous legal/lawyer fees.  Now his car is broken down so he has no way to get to work now.  I have my truck sitting a garage and I don't use it much.  Fine, here are the keys just don't smash it up and leave it full of gas when you are done.

Not many people would do that for anyone in either Russia OR Merica.  I will and do though but only because I trust them.  I would not borrow my truck to just anyone.  Have you seen the price of trucks lately?  Word of people like me travels back to Russia/Crimea on a daily basis.  Everyone needs some help at some point and that is what I consider being a good neighbor.  The problem here is that Syria didn't ask for any help and we forced it upon them.  Here, have some "Help", while we destabilize your country and cause your citizens to die.  No one needs "help" like that.  We decided that you need our "help" whether you want it or not and you WILL take our "help" or die.

Wrong.
